Bandits Collect Phones, Motorcycles, Other As Ransom For Abducted Wives Of Niger District Head

The abductors initially demanded N10 million but the community members were able to raise N5 million.

The wives of Mustapha Madaki, the District Head of Zungeru, Wushishi Local Government Area of Niger State (Madakin Zungeru), who were abducted by gunmen some weeks ago, have regained their freedom.

According to a report by The Nation, the two women were released after payment of N5 million, 100 handsets and five Bajaj motorcycles as ransom.

However, the District Head, who was abducted alongside his wives has yet to regain his freedom as the abductors have demanded more money before they would release him.

The amount being demanded was not disclosed by members of the community who are currently involved in the negotiation

According to reports, the abductors initially demanded N10 million but the community members were able to raise N5 million.

A source in the community said the negotiation is still ongoing to secure the release of the District Head.  

After their release, the two wives were admitted to a medical centre for treatment and observation.
