We’re Pursuing The Gunmen – Nigerian Military Confirms Bandits’ Attacks On Defence Academy

SaharaReporters had earlier reported how bandits attacked the barracks around 1am on Tuesday.

The Nigerian Defence Academy, the military’s foremost training institution in the country, has confirmed that gunmen, believed to be bandits, invaded the facility, killing two officers and abducting one other.

The NDA Spokesman, Major Bashir Jajira, in a release, noted that the Nigerian Army and Air Training Command as well as other security agencies in Kaduna state had commenced a “pursuit of the unknown gunmen within the general area.”

In the release obtained by SaharaReporters, the NDA spokesman said, “The security architecture of the Nigerian Defence Academy  was compromised  early this morning by unknown gunmen who gained access into the residential area within the Academy in Afaka. During the unfortunate incident, we lost two personnel and one was abducted.

“The Academy in collaboration with the 1Division Nigerian Army and Air Training Command as well as other security agencies in Kaduna state has since commenced pursuit of the unknown gunmen within the general area with a view to tracking them and rescue the abducted personnel.

“The NDA community and Cadets are safe in the Academy. We assure the general public that these unknown gunmen would soon be apprehended and the abducted personnel rescued.”

SaharaReporters had earlier reported how bandits attacked the barracks around 1am on Tuesday.

“It was a terrible experience; the bandits took advantage of the time when most people had gone to bed to attack the barracks.”

“Right now, the whole barracks is under lock and key and security has been beefed up so that the bandits cannot leave the barracks because it is believed that they are still within,” a source had said.

The source had said that there are, however, fears that the bandits may decide to kill the officers in a bid to escape.
