A relation of Adeyegun who spoke with SaharaReporters pleaded with the management of the Obasanjo Farms to ensure the speedy release of Adeyegun, the way some workers kidnapped on Obasanjo Farms in Ogun State were released.

According to the relative who pleaded anonymity, Adeyegun reported at his workplace on August 24 and was on a telephone call with him when kidnappers gained entry into the farm. He said Adeyegun informed him on the phone that some kidnappers had just gained entry into the farm and that he later heard him (victim) screaming for help.

The family was later contacted by the kidnappers who requested a ransom of N150 million but after negotiations, it was reduced to N5 million which was paid fully by the family.

However, rather than release Adeyegun, the kidnappers released a young man who is of Hausa extraction and requested for more money (N100 million), threatening to sell off Adeyegun to a kidnapper who “buys Christians” should the family fail to comply.

He said the family was worried and tired of negotiating with the kidnappers as he called on the management of the Obasanjo Farms to look into Adeyegun's plight.

He said, “On August 24 around 1 pm, I was on a phone call with my brother, Segun Adeyegun when he informed me that kidnappers had gained entrance into the farm. I heard the gunshot, it was providence. He said ‘Kidnappers!’. I think his phone fell from his hand and that was all we heard. We later got to his workplace and were told kidnappers had invaded there, shot a policeman and taken Segun away. And he is one of the management staff members. They took him alongside a labourer, that one is a Hausa guy.

“Segun is married with two children and the family ran around and raised N5 million which was given to the kidnappers a week ago, only for the kidnappers to release the other Hausa guy. Meanwhile, the family of the Hausa guy didn't pay anything.

“The management of the Obasanjo Farms said they won't pay any ransom so it won't embolden the kidnappers to come back and he was kidnapped on duty. It's over 20 days now while those kidnapped in Ogun were released after a few days, yet they work for the same company. At least they should do something about it.

“Initially, the kidnappers requested for N150 million, they later brought it down to N5 million. As of yesterday, the kidnappers called again and said they will sell him off to other guys and that we must look for N100 million. The family is exhausted. Segun is a young man, he has been with the kidnappers for over 21 days and he has been working in this company for a while. Obasanjo Farms management should please help us. Segun has been there for too long.

“If they can secure the release of those staff members kidnapped in Ogun, Segun is not a lesser human being. We need to hear from their management. We really need help.”

On September 8, gunmen kidnapped three workers of former President Obasanjo at a village in Abeokuta, Ogun State.

The gunmen waylaid the three workers at Obasanjo Holdings, owned by the former president, in Kobape in the Obafemi-Owode Local Government Area of the state.

The workers abducted were identified as the financial controller, group auditor and group store manager of the company.

After three days, the Nigerian Police, Ogun Command informed the public that it had rescued the three workers from their kidnappers.

The police spokesperson, DSP. Abimbola Oyeyemi, made this known to the News Agency of Nigeria in Abeokuta, on Friday evening.
