Bandits Abduct Intending Couple Ahead Of Saturday Wedding In Ekiti, Demand N5million

They were said to have been ferried to an unknown destination before the kidnappers contacted the family and demanded N5million ransom on Sunday night.

Two persons believed to be an intending couple have been abducted by gunmen in the Ekiti East Local Government Area of Ekiti State.

According to Tribune, the victims were said to have been kidnapped along Ilasa- Ayebode road in the council area on Sunday afternoon.

The couple, according to sources, were returning from Ado-Ekiti, the state capital where they had gone to purchase some commodities in preparation for their wedding scheduled for this weekend when they were accosted by gunmen.

They were said to have been ferried to an unknown destination before the kidnappers contacted the family and demanded N5million ransom on Sunday night.

One of the sources said, “The victims were preparing for their wedding slated for this Saturday. They came to Ado Ekiti to purchase some items and they were returning to their base when they were accosted on the road by gunmen and got kidnapped.

“They were accosted at a very bad portion of the road where the vehicle slowed down. The deplorable condition of our roads was responsible for some of these kidnappings in Ekiti.”

The Police Public Relations Officer, Ekiti Command, ASP Sunday Abutu, who confirmed the abduction said men of the command alongside Amotekun and local hunters have been drafted to the area to ensure the release of the victims. 

According to the PPRO, “We learnt that the couple came to Ado Ekiti and were returning to their base when they were picked up by gunmen. Immediately we got the report, the Police Commissioner, Tunde Mobayo mobilised our men and officers to the surrounding forests.

“As I speak, our men are working in conjunction with Amotekun Corps, local hunters and vigilante group combing the forests to free the victims.”

Abutu, however revealed that three persons had been arrested in connection with the incident, adding that those arrested are being detained at the police headquarters for further investigation.
