Events surrounding the death of the 12-year-old attracted public outrage on social media, with many Nigerians calling for a protest at the school gate while some urged parents to withdraw their children from the school.
However, the family explained that it will not support the idea of a protest because it can be hijacked by hoodlums, parents of the ‘bullies’ or even the school management and blamed on the family of the victim.
The bereaved family, however, promised to follow the case to a logical conclusion.
The statement reads, “Good morning, As a family, we have decided not to give any directive for a protest because you know how Lagos can be (hoodlums hiding under the disguise of a protest to maim and steal) or the owners of the school and parents of the bullies and murders hijacking the protest to cause whatever destruction, thereby blaming the family of the deceased.
“But if people want to stand in solidarity with us the family, it's fine. WE ARE NOT GIVING A GO-AHEAD FOR A PROTEST. The OROMONI family will follow this to a logical conclusion. Thank you and God bless.”
Perrie who made the information public on Wednesday, noted that the deceased was allegedly beaten to death after he refused to succumb to pressure by fellow pupils to join a cult.
According to him, the deceased mentioned the names of five persons responsible for the pain before he finally gave up the ghost on Tuesday.
Reacting, the school claimed the deceased sustained injuries while playing football and was given immediate medical attention by the school's resident nurse.
Subsequently, the student complained of having pains in his hip and was attended to again, this time by a doctor and a nurse and thereafter taken to his house, the statement said.
The school further said it had carried out a preliminary investigation where it was confirmed that there was no case of bullying, adding that it has policies that are strongly anti-cultism.
It also claimed there is a very cordial relationship between the school and the family.
Meanwhile, a viral video shared by the family has shown how the 12-year-old boy was writhing in pain while bleeding from his mouth, with swollen lips and teeth that appear broken.
The parents of the deceased who were massaging him were heard hurling curses at all those who had caused their little boy so much pain.
The deceased had also alleged that he was given a substance to drink by the 'bullies'.
@perrisonoromoni tweeted, “This was the state of Sylvester junior before he died. He couldn’t raise a leg or an arm. Will a boy in this state lie about what happened to him???? Dowen College should tell us what happened to my cousin.
”He kept complaining about his throat and stomach. Said he was given something to drink. God help us.”
