BREAKING: House Of Representatives Rescinds Decision On Gender Bills

The lawmakers had voted against the bill to create extra seats for women, alongside four other bills that are gender-related in the ongoing constitution amendment.

The House of Representatives has rescinded its decision on three gender bills in the constitution amendment.

Since last Tuesday, women from different groups have blocked the entrance to the National Assembly, demanding the lawmakers rescind the rejection of some bills on women.

The lawmakers had voted against the bill to create extra seats for women, alongside four other bills that are gender-related in the ongoing constitution amendment.

However, the lower legislative chamber on Tuesday rescinded its decision on the bills after Hassan Fulata, Chairman, House Committee on Business and Rules, moved a motion.

The bills are: Bill to expand scope of citizenship by registration, Affirmative action for women in political party administration and Provision for criteria to be indigene of a state in Nigeria.
