Another Two-Storey Building Collapses In Lagos, One Person Confirmed Dead

While one person was confirmed dead, another person was rescued alive.

One person has been confirmed dead in a building collapse on the Lagos Island area of Lagos State.

The incident occurred at a two-storey building located on Freeman Street on Saturday afternoon.

Only recently, a building collapsed in the Ebute Metta area of the state, leading to at least 10 deaths and many injuries.

The building which was under construction came down during a heavy rainfall in the area.

While one person was confirmed dead, another person was rescued alive.

The Lagos Territorial Head of the National Emergency Management Agency, Ibrahim Farinloye, confirmed the incident.

Also, the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) said in an update obtained by SaharaReporters that search and rescue operation was still ongoing.

The LASEMA boss, Dr Olufemi Damilola Oke-Osanyintolu, said, “The Agency responded to the above incident which was already in violation of building safety protocols. It was discovered that the building had been captured by the LASBCA District Office and served with all Statutory Notices, Sealed at District and Central Enforcement Level.

“Further investigation determined that the developer had continued clandestine operations mostly at night and at the weekends. An unconfirmed number of people are still trapped inside the building. Two people have been rescued alive while another was recovered dead. Search and Rescue operations are ongoing. Further updates to follow.”
