Attahiru Jega, Stop The Lies!
Sometimes, something happens in the life of a nation that calls to question the collective intelligence of the people to the extent of saying boldly that how they respond to it from thence determines the health, death or near-death of the nation. Speaking electorally or on matters of democratic succession, we had the June 12 1993 annulment, which had the nation reeling for years. Indeed, we still suffer from the effects even today.
At the time, attempts were made by General Ibrahim Babangida and his cohorts to hoodwink the people with silly reasons for this shameful act, but the nation rose to the challenge, called the act by its real name and got Babangida scampering off in tears to the safety of his hilltop mansion in Minna, away from the seat of power! Obviously, the reactionary forces still found a way to first create a stalemate, then established the Interim National Government before returning as a full-blown dictatorship under Abacha after cajoling leaders of some civil society groups into letting down their guards. But, in spite of how it ultimately ended, the world knew from then that Nigerians had some political spine of sort, even if they never completed the job on that occasion.
Today, we have a similar situation, expressed a little differently. The whole nation, since 2007, has been waiting for this election that is supposed to prove that we can get it right, but on what is supposed to be the first day in the first series of votes, Professor Attahiru Jega, the INEC Chairman steps in front of the klieg lights to declare that the National Assembly election that was underway has been cancelled and that it has been rescheduled for Monday, 4th of April, 2011. He now further tells us that due to overwhelming pressure from the political parties, civil society groups and Nigerians generally, it would now be held on Saturday, 9th of April, 2011 with all other elections following in that order of a week delay.
Without too much analysis, I have come to the conclusion that there's more to this than meets the eye and we don’t have to be conspiracy theorists or flies on the wall of wherever discussions to cancel the election or postpone it took place to know this. I mean, if the story Professor Jega and his officials are bandying around about result sheets not arriving on time and all that is the story they want to stand on and what they want us to believe as the real reason for all this, then we must be really worried for the election proper, because that is bound to be worse than a farce! This episode does not only call to question Jega’s competence, it calls to question his credibility. A national election with that much investment and with the nation’s future heavily dependent on it cannot be called off on the same day for such a reason! No matter the questions we ask about the huge amount budgeted and whether or not this money has actually been provided, the process of awarding the contracts to vendors, their reliability, security of giving such a sensitive job to these people and so on, fact is it is inconceivable that common sense would so fail Jega and his crew that they have to wait until the day of the election to call it off, after voting had actually started nationwide! No, they cannot be that daft, even though that is exactly what Jega and those truly behind this will want us to think. They have reasoned that while we crack up in sitting-rooms, beer parlours, classrooms, barber shops, motor-parks and marketplaces all over the nation and abroad over such comical failure, they will use that mirthful cover to wriggle out of the obligation of telling us the real truth behind the act. After all, Nigerians cannot be laughing hard and thinking at the same time!
Well, some of us are still thinking and not laughing at all, because it is no ha-ha matter. What Jega has told the nation is not the real reason and cannot logically be the real reason. Until he comes out to tell Nigerians what really happened and why he truly called it off and the forces behind that cancellation outside his good self, if any, the postponed election, whenever held, no matter the result, would remain tainted. I mean, any idea that there will be a free and fair election is out the window right now with this development, no matter what happens as from the 9th of April, 2011! Jega chose to shoot himself in the foot for reasons he has not told the nation. But while he keeps that truth to himself, such barefaced lies as he’s telling now should not be accepted.
So, please, people should stop praising Jega for some non-existent courage! You don’t need courage to say foolish things and his utterances and reason for calling off the poll are exceedingly foolish - not because we do not need result sheets for the election, but because if indeed the lack of result sheets is the reason for postponing it, we shouldn’t be hearing this on election day proper, followed up with a cancellation. Professor Jega is more intelligent than that. He is lying and Nigerians must demand the real truth from him before the polls. His story simply won’t wash! Indeed, this is something the political parties should have been hammering on now, but it would seem no one wants to be accused of “heating up the system”, whatever that means! Yet, when the deed is done and it’s all over, the supposed losers amongst them would be out talking ancient history!
Anyway, it is in the hands of the people directly. If Nigerians sit down to accept Jega’s lies and on Saturday, 9th of April 2011 troop out to vote, expecting that there would be a free and fair election, they should have themselves to blame for overlooking the obvious. Pressure must be brought on Jega now to speak the truth and on the government to tell us what they know and when they knew it. A week is a long time in politics! People should raise their voices and let Jega and co know that they won’t be condoning any hanky-panky!
Kennedy Emetulu

KENNEDY EMUTULU ALL EYES IS ON YOU

Gega is already a sell-out and want resign
Gega is taken nigerians for-granted, with his flimsy excuses. A professor is no fool he knows everything and has make up his mind their not the president can do. It is too late to cry. Let us continue to pray and be watchful. God will arise on his throne and all the enemy of this nation will expose and punish. Thank for putting more light on the northern conspiracy.
all these rantings
All these rantings and insinuations are begining to make this blog sound like a market place where women trade gossip. If you want Prof Jegga sacked who will replace him? how many months will pass before the senate approves the nomination? perhaps the new chairman will dismantle INEC's program and postpone the whole election beyond May 29th. Is that really what you wagging tongues want? If Prof Jegga is working for Buhari why would he cancel the election? What evidence do we have that PDP was winning or CPC losing...how can we be bandying accusations and pointing fingers without any facts. If you want to vote out PDP or vote in PDP the elections have not been held, votes have not yet been counted, present yourself at the polling station on saturday and make your vote count and stop this mud slinging. Haba!
Nigeria is a mess
Whatelse can we say than to say Nigeria is a mess. Not only that, we are kind of educated for nothing. Until we take our destiny in our hands, there will never be changes.

Think Fast PDP, decide on INEC b/4 he do the Worse
The writer thanks, THE jega is taking Nigerians for granted to rig election for Buhari YES. I have told the PDP of JEGA steps to rig the elections for Buhari in many of my write-ups but they never take it into account untill the last blow of wistle. In the Buhari home town many under aged came out for accreditation without disqualifiation. How can the vendors bring all the electral materials excepect the result sheet? There are too way to these, one, JEGA praying wheather the norther candidaes can agree to emerge as one, two to rig for CPC in large note, hence he JEGA has been making buluff of PDP decision and even the security agencies. But the out come of the result will make him give GEJ. All these statements of staying behind of voters after voting is from Buhari who over throw Shagari Civilian Administration. You can agree with me that it was the same Buhari who prosponded to INEC 4/4/11 to 9/4/11. I thank the human of the GEJ and Sambo because any thing they say the opposition normally pick it against them. How can the PDP now be on defence all the time just because JEGA has shot his hearth from them why.
JEGA even distributed very wrong election paper (ie ballot paper for governorship election where distributed to these 3 zones to be used for House of assebly election) to south, east and West of Nigerian to see reasons to annul the election while he has agreed with Buhari and Ciroma that he will not annul anything of the North. Now Buhari and other did not lav thier house that day because JEGA has told them while GEJ did not know of it hence he as left for hid home town. I want FG to set up a pannel to invistigage while the election was proposed from 4th by INEC. It was caculated attempt by INEC to see the way Nigerians will react if it annul the major one. PDP wake up JEGA is against you all beleive all leave it. The best way to go now is to ask JEGA to resin if he fails, he should removed immediately. Jonathan INEC under JEGA might diappont you hence he jEGA has taken his families to unknown place. Ask if it is lie. With what is on the ground INEC can not organise a free election to Nigerians. This ballot paper are lotting in the Norther areas while the real paper of INEC are yet to be seen in other zones. But, GOd who did not disappoint David over goriath will fight for President Jonathan.
FG Wake and stop JEGA led CPC, ACN

pdp is a disgrace.
PDp have disappointed Nigerians totally, looted all our money, instead of reducing poverty they increased it to the highest level. No electricity ,High rate of unemployment equals to high rate of crime.PDP celebrates criminals and promotes ruges. But my worries is that the opposition parties are not organized. Some of them are still Pdp materials.i wonder how this secrate cult called Pdp will voted out from Aso Rock.
Jonathan no bi am
A Nigerian who thinks with his brain will never vote for a man who supported and finance Obasanjo third term bid with Bayelsa people money.
God forbid that Jonathan a man who celebrates corruption return as president. A man who stepped down charges on Halliburton case and withdrew charges against a minister. Under Jonathan, no minister, governor, permanent secretary, contractor etc has been caught yet corruption is being celebrated under him.
A man that even his people hate:
"The government of Goodluck Jonathan has shown its unwillingness to address the key issues of the Niger Delta but chosen instead, to continue doling out bribes to thugs and plunder the resources of the Niger Delta into his presidential campaign while deceiving the world and Nigerians that there is peace in the Niger Delta." MEND
And remember that two months after he assumed as the vice-presidency, Jonathan came under severe national pressure to follow the lead of his boss and make his assets declaration public. It took several nerve-wracking weeks of trying to dodge the responsibility, but he finally released the document, which showed the former university lecturer was worth an absolutely unbelievable N295 million. He had only been the Governor for 17 months, and this means he had been growing richer at the rate of close to N17 million per month. Naturally,wink-wink,he did not include his wife in his declaration.
I rather vote for a man who abhor corruption, that he will go to any length to fight corruption.. than vote for a man who can not account for his wealth.....a man who is clueless and yet rolls with thugs and criminals....
Anyone giving his vote to Jonathan gives him the permission to serve the PDP, to protect its army of crooks and looters, and to spend the federal treasury until it is empty. A Nigerian may vote Jonathan for a plethora of “reasons,” but in the end, each of them will be found to be selfish or narrow. In the end, none of them will be truly an intelligent argument. The man has no record of character, patriotism or commitment. He is long on promises but extremely short on performance.
Buhari/Bakare for a better Nigeria
Even his enemy praises him
''Muhammadu Buhari as a member of the Supreme Military Council and as the head of the petroleum department was by nature taciturn and introvert. But he took any work given to him very seriously and if he failed at whatever he did, it would not be because he did not put his best, in fact, his very best. He was as reliable as he was hard working and HONEST...”

“Not My Will”,
Drudge, you MAKE SENSE!It's
Drudge, you MAKE SENSE!It's no more than that, Nigeria is not working as a country.....that's the truth, anything more than this is just hope-based or mere wishes. We do not expect an excellent performance despite huge monetary committment when the supposed enabling environment is clearly absent....50yrs --no electricity ad we are still believing; 50 yrs--no serious constitution save the one prepared by the military and being recylcled periodically with taxpayers money and divinely endowed resources....need I say more, education is in chaos, future already destroyed with our youth resorting to reality shows to enter the big league, telecom coys duping subscribers with reckless abandon..the list is endless. if truly, NIGERIA is meant to be a country, then we need to get it right one day. As it is now, we are just trying to thrive on lies, let's tell ourselves the truth, it may be bitter. We need to practice a true federal system or simply divide this country. It's too big and at the same time too loose to govern.Jega is not the culprit, he only made a mistake of hoping like the rest of us.
Jega is a Fraud!
The Fulani man has been rigging the election even before a single vote has been counted. It's only that the Southern press is very incompetent to notice.
Imagine that the total number of registered voters in North West is more than the Combined Total of those in South South and South East. Is that possible?
This is a way to rig the presidential election in favour of Buhair. Nigerians must watch out for jega and learn from the drama of Ivory Coast where the electoral commission in collusion with France rigged the election against Laurent Gbagbo.

NICE ONE
So I did get you to start asking questions? Hmm. You're forgiven. Probe harder.
Did you consider these?
@walor, I respect your right to vote for anyone but did you consider that the Buhari has no concrete program they have articulated yet for any facet of our lives. I watched them on the Debate and followed their campaigns there is no articulation, there is mission and no vision. And remember this is civil administration not military, there are no room for Decrees 1,2,3 or 4 and so on. Do consider he will requires the parliament. Do you know he can be criticized and he can't jail anyone for that? Do you consider he cannot decree prices? Do you consider the effect of a rash and hasty decision may have on all. Do you consider that integrity even if it questionable here and there is not enough to rule a country. Are you aware that being out of touch with reality for as much as 25yrs is bad enough. If you consider all these then what ever decisions you make I respect it my brother.
Jega,tell us the real truth
Jega, tell us the real truth behind the act. After all, Nigerians cannot be laughing hard and thinking at the same time!don't play politics with Nigeria well expected free and fair election

A man takes the time to point out the obvious to you, you are asking him to come back to your dirty country that cannot organize a simple vote after spending $700 Million dollars.

One day, a stupid fowl called DERI (Demented Ethnocentric Ranting Imbecile) was treating itself to its favourite pastime of guzzling endless quantities of raw cattle sewage. 'Kai,' Deri said to itself, 'this bullshit is particularly delicious. I'll have to ask the bull for the full recipe.'
And so Deri asked the bull, who is incidentally called Goodluck.
'Yeah,' Goodluck replied, 'my shit is packed with nutrients and bacteria and can give you the stamina to do many things. when you have enough of it, climbing to the top of the fence surrounding this farm is like a fowl's play.'
And so Deri continued guzzling the bullshit and climbing the fence. What the imbecile did not notice was that a hunter was ready with his rifle and taking a very good aim - all the time waiting for Deri to climb to the top of the fence. 'BOOM, BOOM, BOOM,' went the rifle. And down went Deri - its stomach still full of bullshit and its IQ still less than 25. But the hunter's wife is not going to worry too much about those considerations when she makes her soup.
MORAL OF THE STORY: THE GOODLUCK BULLSHIT CAN TAKE YOU TO THE TOP........BUT IT WILL NOT KEEP YOU THERE. AND ANYBODY THAT TRIES TO CONVINCE YOU OTHERWISE IS JUST WASTING THEIR TIME CHATTING TONS OF OYO GARBAGE.

The N2.8 Billion ‘Missing’ Oil Money Poppycock by Tam David West
In 1980, during the administration of President Shagari, a case arose of some N2.8 billion allegedly missing from the NNPC in the previous administration of General Obasanjo when General Buhari was the Minister for Petroleum. A Judicial Commission of Inquiry headed by a Supreme Court Judge, Honourable Mr. Justice Ayo Irekefe, was set up to examine the allegations. The MD/CEO of NNPC, Chief Festus Marinho, an oil technocrat was temporarily moved out of the NNPC to allow for investigations. From its findings, the Commission, satisfied that no such money ever got missing, dismissed the scandal. It is interesting to note that even before the allegations were dismissed by the Commission, Buhari’s name was not mentioned among those suspected. This was reiterated by General Obasanjo in 1990 in his book “Not My Will” in which Obasanjo praised Buhari’s “honesty”, “moral probity and rectitude”.
Those prejudiced against Buhari later sought to revive these allegations and, failing to justify their claims, alleged that the sum was $3.4 billion reviewed to $4.1 billion even though all government records state clearly that the allegedly missing sum was N2.8 billion and that the allegations were found to be untrue and subsequently dismissed. They falsely claim that the coup against Shagari’s governemnt was because of the investigations. How could Buhari have staged a coup in revenge for an investigation into a case in which he was not even accused and which was eventually dismissed as baseless? The Buhari led coup was to clean up the polity which was deep in corruption during the administration of Shagari. Nigerians took to the streets in jubilation when the Shagari administration was toppled as it marked an end to a reign of corruption which had caused severe damage to the economy. One year later, the missionary zeal of the Buhari-Idiagbon regime had begun to transform the nation to the extent that Buhari was almost christened “Nigeria’s Jesus” by enthusiastic Nigerians but for the fact that that would mean a “muslim Jesus”.
JEGA IS WORKING FOR IBB.
What do you guys expect,Gej must be stupid in trusting that Aboki man,the task given to him is too much, precise the hausa man will rig the election for one his own.Jega is taking is briefing from IBB.
Jega and election postponement
One day Wickileak will publish the truth rebasing events that led to this postponement. It may be unwise for Jega to state the 'truth' now. Such may jolt the country to rioting which would make the country ungovernable. Yes the truth must be told but at the right time and mood. Last week's national disgrace further prolong the healing of Wole Soyinka's 'Open sore of the continent'

Botched NASS election: Unease in Jonathan’s camp
•TUC, CDHR, others demand probe of vendor
By Sunny Igboanugo and Sylvester Enoghase, Lagos
President Goodluck Jonathan is jittery over the shift in election dates, despite his calm outward disposition, in which he even apologised to Nigerians and promised a better future outing.
Jonathan, who left for his country home in Otueke, Bayelsa State to cast his vote at the last weekend, is said to have started believing reports that Attahiru Jega may be working for his opponents, in a well-choreographed scheme to see him out of the Villa.
A source close to the Jonathan camp confided on Sunday that the president had in the past dismissed insinuations about Jega’s loyalty to his job as Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) Chairman, but is now reconsidering his position.
The source said: “There are reports that Jega is working for one of the presidential candidates. Before now, Jonathan had been dismissing the report, but is forced to reconsider his position, because what happened on Saturday is unthinkable.
“Jonathan had received 100 per cent assurance from Jega that all materials were in place and he had to travel to his community and stayed on the line to go through voting accreditation.
“It was while Jonathan was there that the National Security Adviser called to inform him of the postponement. There is nobody that will not start having a second thought on the issue.
“Jonathan is not only the President, but a contestant in the election. It stands to reason that he should be worried that he is not cheated in the election. So, there is worry in his camp.”
Jonathan was said to have made consultations with stakeholders, in his camp and beyond, including experts on INEC matters, to brief him on the next line of action.
The brief in the camp is that Jega had been prevailed upon, as part of the strategy to ensure that the NASS election was held on the same day with that for President, to prevent a bandwagon effect.
“You saw the opposition jumped at the opportunity immediately after the postponement to ask that it should be postponed to Saturday and be held on the same day with the presidential election. It is not a coincident.”
Jonathan’s foot soldiers had been summoned for Sunday night to fight the lumping of the two elections.
They were later debriefed, however, as it emerged that the team had won the argument on Sunday afternoon when Jega announced different dates for the NASS and presidential polls.
Presidential Campaign Council (PCC) Publicity Director, Abba Dabo, expressed support for the new election timetable, and urged voters to troop out and cast their votes for PDP candidates.
He described as "spurious" allegations of attempts at rigging made against the PDP, which are "distractions as the rantings of those who see failure and envisage defeat at the polls."
Even with that, the Coordinating Working Committee (CWC) of the National Democratic Institute (NDI) election observation partners comprising the Trade Union Congress of Nigeria (TUC), Committee for the Defence of Human Rights (CDHR) and Centre for Environment, Human Rights and Development (CEHRD), have urged Abuja to investigate and prosecute the vendor responsible for the postponement of the elections.
It also asked the government and the INEC to give firm assurances that such anomalies will not happen again.
The group Chairman, Olasupo Ojo, implored Nigerians not to be disillusioned at the turn of events but to see the postponement as an opportunity to renew their commitment to the survival of democracy.
Ojo told reporters in Lagos on Sunday: “Despite the disappointment with the INEC’s failure to put into context the enormity of the logistical task involved in the distribution of election materials round a country the size of Nigeria, the CWC calls on the political class not to use the current situation as an opportunity to sow the seed of suspicion and spread pessimism among Nigerians.”
He added that based on reports from “our observers nationwide, there was widespread non-availability of election materials hence we agree that the decision taken was within the ambit of the Electoral Act and that failure to have taken the decision would have negatively affected the credibility of the election.”
Ojo said the CWC “salutes the courage” of Jega for being forthright and sincere with Nigerians on the challenges confronting the INEC in distributing election materials, but, nevertheless, shares in the disappointment of Nigerians over the failure to put in place the machinery for a smooth distribution of the materials to the polling booths.
“Nigeria as a country is currently in the eye of the storm and the whole world is waiting with bated breath to see how the country will wriggle out of this situation. "
“We also call on the political class to exercise maximum restraint and patriotism at this critical period.
“The CWC calls on Nigerians to come out in their numbers to exercise their franchise and elect their representatives. Eternal vigilance, it is said, is the price of liberty. Nigerians must remain eternally vigilant and ensure the survival of democracy.”

NO SMOKE WITHOUT FIRE!!!!!!!!
The reasons Jega put out there for cancellation and postponment of Aprill 2011 elections is hogwash! He is absolutely under pressure coupled with the fact that he is incompetent and cluless about the enormity of the essence and value of the 2011 elections to Nigeria as presently constituted. Only the gullible(I dare say there are millions in Nigeria) who would still expect free and fair elections-whatever that means. We all should begin to kiss Nigeria bye bye..something will give way soon!!!
