Graphic images of people who were killed or who sustained injuries as a result of the christmas day bomb attacks which Boko Haram claimed to have carried out are being circulated around the world. These horrifying photos of the dead and wounded have once again reinforced the threat of islamic fanaticism and terrorism in Nigeria.

They are stark reminders of the challenges facing Nigeria and its democracy. The bomb attacks are clear and sombre signals of the dangers that lie ahead of Nigeria early in this 21st century. But Nigeria's President, Goodluck Jonathan, seems not to be aware of this. He appears not be reading the hand writing on the wall, as the wall is caving in and collapsing on him.

Otherwise how does one explain the lack lustre response of  President Jonathan to the recent bomb attacks.

He described the bombings as 'a burden Nigerians must live with...' A burden? Which Nigerians must live with? I mean this statement drips with resignation and impotency. It demonstrates the president's inability to deal with the issue. The statement actually sends a dangerous signal to Nigerians who are looking up to the president for strenghten, assurance and security. President Jonathan appeared to have given up and to be at the end of his wit in terms of addressing the problem. Hence he urged Nigerians not to expect any immediate solution.

The question is: For how long are Nigerians going to live with this problem? For one year or for two or ten years?. It is important to know when the spectre of Boko Haram will disappear from the Nigerian space and psyche. How long will Nigerians bear the burden of islamic fanaticism and terrorism? How long will Nigerians stand by and watch Boko Haram shoot, kill and bomb their friends and family members out of existence? Definitely not for long. Not for too long. The President's reaction would not help Nigerians cope with the terror of Boko Haram. Instead it could drive them to take laws into their hands, and try to protect themselves from this militant and fanatical group. Preseident Jonathan and state governors must act now to address this problem. Because it is getting too late. It is taking a worrisome and frightening dimension. Particularly, now Boko Haram has started targeting and bombing churches. This crisis is set to take a wider dimension which may likely spin out of control. Nigeria appears to be gradually descending into a full blown religious conflict that will set christains against muslims across the country.

And Nigeria cannot survival a religious war with its volatile ethno-religious mix

So President Jonathan must act now to relieve Nigerians of the burden of Boko Haram. Because the people's patience is strained. Fear is consuming the nation. The trust and confidence in the government's ability to tackle the problem is drying up. Hope is fading away. I mean, Nigerians cannot wait any longer.

The dull president

The hot incedent of B .H in the country is geting out of hand. Our confidence on d president is a failure.that is why the bible says that "the trust in man is a zero". The nigerians are hoping unto God to replace Goodluk jonathan with a God fearing man and not a ruler like pharaoh that perish away in the sea.

suggestions on BH

station strong millitary and intelligence base in Chad and Niger to start with. constitute a special tribunal for ethnic and religious terrorism. establish a special bureau (FEARR)-Federal Ethnic and Religious Riots, Bureau that should be immensely mobile (Helicopters, jets etc)immensely communicative, immensely armed and cross disciplinarily recruited i.e. should also constitute of pastors, Imams, Historians etc aside military/Police, attache and many undercover agents in Nigeria and all over the place. Their establishing mandate should not only be reactive but strongly proactive. Yes it would take immense resources(you may need to first tackle political corruption) and more detailed planning (you may need to actually ...think).

FOR ALL NIGERIANS

A group of 40 men, mostly of Southern Nigerian origin met at 1456 hours yesterday in an undisclosed house somewhere in an important town, 40 miles of Enugu. The agenda was on what to do to stop the insensitive killing of people, estimated now to be up to 6 million, which began since colonial times by the Hausa-Muslims in Nigeria. Strategies were taken and action is to start on the day the next devilish bomb will be thrown by the BH (hereinafter known as Dday).
Within hours of Dday, there will be:
(1) The bombing of the Central Mosque at Abuja with a helicopter to be readily made available by one of the men.
(2) The bombing of any muslim gathering in Southeast Nigeria on Dday or on the Friday after Dday.
(3) The bombing of the National Assembly by the same helicopter on Dday.
(4) The bombing of targeted people within Nigeria or abroad who are the sponsors of the Boko Haram hours after Dday.
(5) The destruction of Aso Rock, or if abortive, the damage thereof.

TOWARDS AN ENDURING SOLUTION

THE WRITE UP AND RESPONSES THERETO ARE REALLY DISSAPOINTING.THOSE WHO SAY JONATHAN HAS NO CLUE SHOULD SUGGEST CLUES TO HIM.THOSE WHO SAY HE IS NOT INTELLIGENT SHOULD TELL US HIS INTELLIGENT QUOTIENT.THOSE WHO EARLIER PROFESS THAT GOD GIVES LEADERSHIP NOW SAY THAT 'WE' MADE MISTAKE IN VOTING JONATHAN INSTEAD OF BUHARI MEANING THAT GOD HAS MADE MISTAKE.INSECURITY DID NOT START WITH GEJ AND WILL NOT STOP WITH HIM AS HE CAN ONLY TRY TO CONTAIN TERRORISM OF IDIOTIC SUICIDE JIHADISTS WHO, AFTER FAILING ON EARTH , FOOL THEMSELVES INTO WANTING TO GO TO HEAVEN AND ENJOY VIRGINS AND WINE.
ONE FAILS TO FIND A PROFOUND AND HOLISTIC PRESCRIPTION ON HOW TO SORT NIGERIA ON A SUSTAINABLE BASIS EXCEPT THE INTELLECTUAL LAZINESS OF EXPECTING MAGIC FROM JONATHAN.
WHY CAN OTHERWISE EDUCATED PEOPLE NOT REVISIT THE PRESCRIPTIONS OF THE 1994/5 ABACHA CONSTITUTIONAL CONFERENCE AND PUT PRESSURE ON GOVERNMENT TO CONVOKE A CONFERENCE TO DISCUSS NIGERIA FROM FUNDAMENTAL PERSPECTIVES?

THE EARLIER THE FULANIS GET

THE EARLIER THE FULANIS GET IT INTO THEIR NUMBSKULLS THAT NIGERIA IS NOT THEIR PATRIMONY INSPITE OF THE EVIL DESIGNS OF THE BRITISH, THE BETTER IT WILL BE FOR THEM. HERE IS A GROUP OF OUTSIDERS, COUSINS OF THE ARABS, NOT INDIGENOUS TO SUB SAHARAN AFRICA, WHO WERE ALLOWED TO SETTLE IN NEGRO LAND. HAVING SETTLED, THEY BROUGHT A POLITICAL RELIGION IN WHICH THEY MUST SUPERINTEND OVER ADHERENTS AS OVERLORDS AND EVEN NON ADHERENTS AS RULERS WITHOUT WHICH THERE WILL BE NO PEACE. FROM SENEGAL TO NORTHERN CAMEROUN, THESE MINORITIES SPECIALISE IN DEVISING DEVIOUS SCHEMES TO COLONISE AND ENSLAVE THE UNSUSPECTING INDIGENOUS MAJORITY.BUT THAT WAS IN THE PAST.THE TERRORISM OF UTHMAN DAN FODIO AGAINST THE HAUSA CAN NOT WORK VIA BOKO HARAM AGAINST NIGERIA.PURSUIT OF RELIGIOUS AND POLITICAL TERRORISM CAN ONLY RESURRECT THE GHOST OF GIDEON ORKAR TO PUT THEM WHERE THEY BELONG - IN THE FRINGE OF THE SAHARA DESERT.

IBRAHIM SAAD WE KNOW YOUR

IBRAHIM SAAD WE KNOW YOUR PREDILECTION. IF BUHARI SHOOTS HIMSELF INTO THE PRESIDENCY, HE WOULD BE A SMART PRESIDENT NOW BUT WAS NOT SMART ENOUGH TO PREVENT BABANGIDA FROM OVERTHROWING HIM.IT IS UNFORTUNATE NTHAT YOU IMPLY THAT ONCE JONATHAN LEAVES THE PRESIDENCY FOR YOUR KIND, BOKO HARAM TREEORISM WILL STOP.MUTALLAB THE 2010 CHRISTMAS BOMBER WOULD NOT HAVE ATTEMPTED SUICIDE BOMBING IN THE US IF JONATHAN WERE SMART.YOU ARE JUST A BOKO HARAM TERRORIST AND IF CARE IS NOT TAKEN, YOU PEOPLE WILL GET WHAT YOU HAVE BEEN ASKING FOR IN FULL MEASURE BECAUSE NO GROUP CAN AFFORD THE MONOPOLY OF VIOLENCE. NO WONDER GIDEON OKAR EXCISED YOUR PEOPLE OUT OF NIGERIA IN HIS FAILED 1990 COUP.WE ARE WATCHING.

boko haram started from zamfara state and not Niger delta

Despite a brutal civil war and despite our many regional, ethnic and religious differences and bouts of violence we have still managed to hold things together and not been forced go our separate ways. We have managed and tolerated each other with a smile despite our very real tensions, challenges and differences. However when there are very real and tangible tensions between the north and the south, when there is an unprecedented level of resentment between Christians and Muslims, when there is open disdain and contempt for what is (rightly or wrongly) perceived as the weakness and incompetence of a southern Christian President by the majority of those in the core Muslim north, when a full scale religious war is being waged in Jos between Christians and Muslims and when bombs are being dropped all over the place by Islamist terrorists who wish to establish an Islamic fundamentalist state in the north then all bets are off and the centre cannot possibly hold for much longer.

Boko Haram not same sex

What have this issue got to do with same sex issues? If you don't have anything to contribute why not quitly ignore. Do not mix issues. Men sleeping with men is not the cause of this problem and prohibiting it will not bring a solution.

Re: The burden of Boko Haram

Leo,

Many thanks for expressing your concerns like millions of other Nigerians. That President Jonathan cannot find a solution to thsi menace is a forgone conclusion. This is one problem holding the Nigeria nation at the jugular. We are now at a cross-road.

You expressed concern about the inability of Nigeria to wothstand a religious war. Your concern is an understatement as the nation is already at war. Nigeria is going through another cycle of civil war, albeit a very unconventional war. However, whether any nation has survived two civil wars is something only time can tell.

The situation at hand calls for a more pragmatic solution. A solution staring at us in the face but which we lacked the will to implement. I shall address this issue shortly in my next article.

Once again, many thanks for being there for the people. A luta continua!

THANKS FOR THE INSIGHT OKONKWO KENNEDY

THANKS OKONKWO FOR THE INGIGHT. BUT I HAVE A PROBLEM WITH YOUR CONCLUSIONS. THE MILITARY IS A HIERACHICAL ORGANISATION AS SUCH IF HE HAD SMART AND INTELLIGENT SERVICE CHIEFS THE CONTROL OF THE MILITARY WILL NOT BE A PROBLEM. IF HOWEVER THE THREAT IS FROM THE OUTSIDE THESE SAME SERVICE CHIEFS WILL BE ABLE TO COUNTER IT. THE TRUTH IS YOU CANNOT HAVE A CABINET THAT IS SMARTER THAN THE PRESIDENT. TAKE IT OR LEAVE IT WE MADE A MISTAKE IN THE SELECTION OF A PRESIDENT QED!!!

please people think. if in

please people think. if in fact the northern elite are responsible for the bombings in nigeria today then please explain to me why GEJ will not arrest the so called northern elite and prosecute them accordingly??? i solely believe that GEJ is part of the conspiracy. uptil today no boko haram member has been sentenced in court. all of them are awaiting trial. can u believe these things? nigerian govt I DEY LAUGH WOO!!!!

StoppingTthis Menace

It is now apparent that this terrorist group is determined to exacebate the worsening tensions between Christian South & Moslem North. Our security services & the armed forces need to work in conjuction. The security services have got to increase their capacity to infiltrate this group. We need to have security services people as MEMBERS OF BOKO HARAM. This is the only way to succesfully fight this assymetrical threat. The JTF needs ACTIONABLE INTELLIGENCE TO ACT ON.Nigeria also needs to cultivate a well trained counter-insurgency unit, that cannot only combat these nihilists on their own terms but also befriend the people of these neibourhoods who might provide valuable intelligence. Fighting Terrorism has always been about PRE-EMPTIVE intelligence. The problem is that because Nigeria does not even have the basics, it will take some time, but we have to START NOW.It is ironic that BH has taken the side of the looters & is now oppressing the suffering masses!

where were your smelly thoughts when ayakoroma was bombed by GEJ

Some insane writers now want us to believe that, God in His wisdom told them that Jonathan, was not going to be able to rule us except vultures like Buhari, who had no respect for the rule of law during the two years that he ruled us, is forced down our throat. Buhari was so selective that he arranged with judges to have people like the late Fela, jailed for reasons best to known to him. Nigeria was not discovered by Lord Lugard for the Fulanis who strayed into Nigeria from the west african sub region, think that without them nothing will work in the country. Hence the need for certain innocent humans who have gone to church to thank God for sparing their lives up till that day, be killed to justify the need for us to have a change of guard in Aso rock. Why cant Buhari and members of his chain gang wait till 2015? Has Buhari not tried 3 times to rule us? Was it Jonathan who stopped him? These set of animals should be told to keep their dirty thoughts to themselves till 2015.

Thank you

Thank you Mr. Igwe. I believe you can now undertstand why the Men Sleeping with Men (MSM)campaign in Nigeria cannot see the light of the day. There are too many problems in the country: boko haram, youth unemployment, enviromental problems in Niger Delta, massive corruption, infrastructure decay etc that need to be solved.

GEJ will on his own live with

GEJ will on his own live with the burden of Boko Haram and not Nigerians as he said.
I have always known him to be a great failure thats why I never wasted my vote on rather, I voted for a man worthy of the leadership of Nigeria... Buhari.

If u study cosely GEJ's history and the way he makes it to the top of any where he finds himself, u will agree with me that all is not well.

Someone has to give way for him to head either through death or other means...this means that Nigeria has to be divided for another round of history to be made with his name written in whatever he stands to achieve.

May God help Nigeria and deliver Nigeria from the hands og GEJ..

Someone please pass a vote of no confidence on this worthless fello so that peace can reign in this country for once.

WHAT CAN GEJ DO ?

The points made by the writer are understandable, but they failed to highlight or address the perennial and salient backgrounds of the prevailing security situation in nigeria..The nigerian armed services were founded to cater for the agenda of the hausa/fulani political domination of the rest of nigeria..If one paid close attention to the deliberately skewed pattern of conscription,it would be discovered that there is nothing national about our military bodies. This problem is bigger than the poor guy from otuke,a man with no military antecedent ..The only person armed with requisite understanding of the intriguing maneuverings of the military is the ota ape..But as a yoruba snake,he failed to make fundamental changes that would have repositioned the military bodies for national services.I see these bombings as a rejection of south south presidency by the northern elite.Period!!.
