The Deceit About Saint Ribadu?

By E. C. Ejiogu

It has been more than a few weeks now following the publication of a piece in this medium in which some unnamed sources that claimed close association to Mr. Nuhu Ribadu and his ambition to become Nigeria’s de facto leader went beyond what had prior to then become an insidious style of flying the kite of Mr. Nuhu Ribadu’s possible run for the presidency in the shaky elections that have been slated early next year, to state categorically that he would run.

Ever since, there have been additional categorical indicators that have come particularly from Mr. Chido Onumah, an erstwhile campaigner for free and fair voting in the said shaky polls slated for next year, who has quickly morphed into Ribadu’s chief handler, that confirm the disclosure that he would run.  There’s hardly much that can be wrong with anyone nursing an ambition as he does.

However, although it is worrisome that Saint Ribadu has acted true to type like the rest of the other actors who are actively priming themselves for the same office, even as they have insidiously remained silent about their ambitious desire, there is a more worrisome aspect of Ribadu’s reptilian style, which has compelled me to bring my concern about him here and air it in the open, to the attention of all and sundry.  That aspect is Ribadu’s evident calculation to foist up the smokescreen that what irks the Nigeria project is simply the paucity of leadership, and that his fabled stint at the EFCC qualifies him necessarily and sufficiently to remedy the situation and usher in the cure.

For reasons that can be associated with the logic of full disclosure, I had earlier on taken the trouble to raise and direct my concern about this worrisome aspect of Saint Ribadu’s candidacy and ambition to not just Mr. Onumah—who I know tangentially, but also to another individual who was mentioned in the piece that played a few weeks ago, as part of the tightly-knit clique of the best and brightest that constitute his presidential bid team.  The second individual, who happens to be one of my very close pals since our undergraduate years in the university, did find reasonable sense in my concern, even though, he presumes that the issues that I raised can best be trashed out in the political arena.  Well, is this medium not part of that political arena?

On his own part, Mr. Onumah is yet to live up to his promise to get back to me over the concern that I raised about Ribadu’s silence or refusal to disclose to the army of young people what exactly he is actually running on, beyond the notion that he is determined to continue those anti-corruption efforts he began when he was in-charge of the lack luster EFCC.

In essence, the vital query here still remains: What is Nuhu Ribadu running on?  This remains a query that only Ribadu, and not his handlers must step forward to respond to in a satisfactory manner before anyone, particularly those who perceive the problem with the Nigeria project from the same perspective as me take him seriously.  His satisfactory response to this hard-core question will indeed put him apart from the rest of the flock trotting the stage to deceive and play on the intelligence of the multitude of people who are willing to lend themselves to such deceit.

I didn’t mince words when I told Mr. Onumah that I’d want to hear Ribadu’s position directly from his mouth on the Nationality Question, as well as how he intends to deal with it now and if and when he becomes president. Anyone who is not out to deceive on what irks the Nigeria project should know that the absence of true federalism in the existing political arrangement is the core problem that dogs the Nigeria project. Poor leadership and corruption merely reflect that core.  How does Saint Ribadu intend to deal with the paucity of true federalism in the Nigeria project?  Speaking for myself, my interest as far as the Nigeria project is concerned, is definitely centred on addressing the core problem of entrenching true federalism in Nigeria’s political arrangement.  If Ribadu and his camp are avoiding it, my declaration here is that unless they quickly do I've pitched my tent quite far from theirs and out there in the open. Henceforth, I will consistently call them out as deceitful blokes who are out to cash in on the apparent but possible support of the multitude of naïve youth out there.

Another friend who I’d describe as being highly obsessed with a Ribadu candidacy advocated for the devil the other when he asked if I’d rather have another of the jokers out there to remain or climb in and continue to mal-govern Nigeria.  My response to him was that in the absence of a true federal political arrangement, there is no guarantee that even a Saint Ribadu will not also perpetuate the existing culture of mal-governance if at all he pulls off a miraculous win in the slated elections that are already fraught with tottering processes and arrangements.  What concrete and durable achievement was Saint Ribadu able to accomplish while he reigned over the EFCC?

My intention here at this time is strictly limited to alerting and re-directing Ribadu to truly sanctify and render himself sufficiently worthy to play the much-needed role in the quest for responsive governance in Nigeria.  He cannot play that role the way that he’s played his hand so far—simply by making condolence visits, visiting prominent personalities, etc. during some of which he’s been photographed squatting on the floor probably to show-case some measure of personal humility. I’m hoping that Ribadu quickly desists from continuing to play what is clearly a game of deceit.  If he doesn’t, I wouldn’t stand by and watch while the youth who seem to have latched onto the promise they presume he holds as a saviour have him rubbish their fervent belief that he is genuine and is intentioned to deliver them from the that the Nigeria project has been.  He must desist from the game of deceit, which he’s currently playing, and place himself apart from the flock in order to convince the well-meaning ones amongst us that he’s genuine.  He will also earn our support by so doing.  The time to do that is now.

the change we truly need

The banbangidas ,Atikus, jonathans, obasanjos e.t.c failed this nation in all ramification. No doubt their generation is a wasted one.The world is changing and this old CARGOS do not posses what it takes the rule in the modern WORLD.Obasanjo will continue to enforce,IBB will continue to apply Tricks,Buhari will continue to DICTATE and Jonathan will continue to act like a PUPPET.The path that brought Fashola to power might not be 100 percent Clean but his exemplary leadership style tells it all.NUHU RIBADU defied what had become a trend in leadership during his time at EFCC. I strongly believe that giving a better opportunity NUHU RIBADU will steer this nation to a greater height.

What is Nuhu's platform?

Only the naive, of which sadly there are many, are being carried away with the whole Nuhu Ribadu movement.Tthe author posed a great question "what is Nuhu running on?". This is not only a question for Nuhu, but this is a question that all presidential candidates need to start answering from now on or you don't have a campaign. It's not just about spreading money around and saying vote for me.

Also running the EFCC, albeit lopsidedly, does not qualify one to be president. What is the man's platform? At least Jonathan has made a feeble attempt at it; we know Power and Electoral reform are two of his priorities. If nothing else, we know where to hold him accountable if he fails. Where do we hold Nuhu accountable?

Saint Ribadu

Ribadu is a fraud. He can not rule Nigeria. He is incompetent and dishonest. Where did he get the money to buy the mansion he is living in Asokoro and why did he purchase the house in his father in laws name? The true story of Ribadu and Ibori will one day be known. Were they not friends before? What happened? Let Ribadu tell Nigerians the truth. The truth will set him free.

A donkey with a PhD is still a donkey

Do you really need to put a title behind your name in order to communicate your point?

While I'm wary of Ribadu and all politicians in general, it is wise to recall that:

In many ways, the work of a critic is easy. We risk very little yet enjoy a position over those who offer up their work and their selves to our judgment. We thrive on negative criticism, which is fun to write and to read. But the bitter truth we critics must face is that, in the grand scheme of things, the average piece of junk is more meaningful than our criticism designating it so. But there are times when a critic truly risks something, and that is in the discovery and defense of the new.

Ejiogu, your article is an insult to every Nigerian youth!

Dr. Ejiogu, where have you been this past 50 years? Nigeria as a nation is nearing collapse, poor infrastructure, no decent electricity, education policy is non-existence.

Where were you when your generation - the likes of Shagari, Umaru Dikko, Barki Zuwo, Buhari, IBB, Joeseph Wayas, Atiku, OBJ ravaged Nigeria?

Where were you when Dele Giwa, Abiola, Ken Saro-Wiwa, Bola Ige were murdered? What did you do? What are you going to tell your children and grand children?

Now that we Nigerian students are working hard, doing the heavy lifting and trying to do something to bring historic change to our beloved country, you shamelessly remain on the sidelines writing rubbish and insulting our intelligence and motive.

Dr. Ejiogu I have one word for you - PUT UP OR SHUT UP AND PLS> STOP INSULTING US!

I AM A YOUNG NIGERIAN, I ABSOLUTELY SUPPORT RIBADU

Dear Dr. Ejiogu if you truly love NIGERIA and have some conscience left for your dear country, it'll be clear to you that we truly need a fresh leadership in Nigeria. Senator Barack Obama became President of the United States at 48. The Prime Minister of UK, David Cameron, is 44. His deputy, Nick Clegg, is 43. The President of Russia, Dmitry Medvedev, is 44. Nuhu Ribadu is 49!

ENOUGH OF: Ribadu is not OLD or EXPERIENCED enough to MISRULE Nigeria argument!. Next year IBB will be 70, Atiku 65, Obasanjo 74, Shagari 86, Buhari 69...

ENOUGH OF: Ribadu is not EXPERIENCED or CORRUPT enough in LOOTING Nigeria's treasury like IBB, Ibori, Atiku, Umaru Dikko, Joseph Wayas...argument!

Fellow young Nigerians, I urge you all NOT to allow our so called "leaders" to keep doing things the same old, tired, corrupt and incompetent ways this time and expect a fresh outcome next time. People, families, and politicians who are benefiting (chopping) on the POOR state of our dear country LOVE things to continue this way for another 50 years!. Let's all join TEAM RIBADU. Change will come!

RIBADU SHOULD WAIT, WAIT FOR WHAT OR WHO? We do not want a professional politician. RIBADU, NOW IS THE TIME! WE CANNOT WAIT ANY LONGER! LET's SAVE OUR COUNTRY. ENOUGH IS ENOUGH!!!

Will you reject a $15 million bribe? Really? Well, Ribadu did!

I like what @Flygold wrote.

Originally by Flygold:

I have asked so many people one question in Nigeria that care to give me a straight answer. What was Mallam Nuhu Ribadu's offence when he was being witch in Nigeria that he had to run abroad for a cover. Everyone in Nigeria was indicted but we are proud of this man that they can't find one evidence against him. Police humiliated him and those bastard were rejoicing over it but suddenly the table turned and he was reinstated.

We have two set of people in Nigeria, those that claim to love the nation but eventually love their pocket and those that are truly committed to Nigeria state. We don't need to hear much from people like what did he call his name. Mallam Yakari or what you live to see Ribadu steer the boat of Nigeria to promise land.

We have seen Ribadu's gut, that he will do anything possible irrespective of who you are to make things right. People Mallam Yakari are scare because they know with Ribadu in office the long arm of the law will catch up with them. Thank you let's keep the flag flying. 9jer live forever

Selective prosecution argument is lame!

A cop pulls a man over for speeding, the cop gives the man a speeding ticket, the man accuses the policeman of selective victimization because some other motorists are speeding too.

A cop arrests a man for stealing a goat, the man accuses the policeman of "selective victimization" because some other men are doing the same thing.

Nigerians are failing to ask the fundamental question.
Did all these so called "political victims" steal public funds?

I'm tired of all these "Selective prosecution" arguments.

What Manner of Article is This?

This one of the drabbest article I've read for some time now. Ejiogu, if you have difficulty expressing your opinion in a clear and concise manner, please translate it to Igbo!

The Deceit of Ejiogu: Shame on you, eji-EGO!

I have noticed that empty vessels like this writer always like to seek relevance by inserting themselves into potentially historic events. For the likes of ejiEGO, it's all about ME, ME, ME, I and still ME.

Another thing I have since noticed, is that great writers like ACHEBE and SOYINKA usually simply write their names at the end of an article without all the PhD's, AIG, ODOO, BBC. However, the eji-EGOS of this world are so insecure that their incoherent opinions or articles cannot stand on their merit without the titles "I HAVE A PhD - I KNOW BOOK O - I BE CHIEF" at the end of a weak and ego driven piece.

You're entitled to your own OPINION but not to your own FACTS! SHAME ON YOU ejiEGO!

Ejiogu

I see this Ejiogu or whatever his name is, is quick to display his lousy degree so as to lay some credence to his write up. I think you should also ask IBB, Atiku, Jonathan etc to show us their achievements. Your write up is so lame and arrogant.

Dr E. C. Ejiogu, why are you

Dr E. C. Ejiogu, why are you bothering yourself about the media myth created around Nuhu Ribadu? His ambitous presidential bid borne more out of being a cheap opportunist for selfish purpose would come crashing in his face. It's not going to be different from his selfish ambition to become the police IG and the latest request to become president Goodluck Jonathan National security Adviser. While the later was turned down by Jonathan on account of his inexperience in security circle, the former was aborted when OBJ tenure enlogation project failed. Wasn't Ribadu suppport for OBJ tenure enlogation project premised on the calculation of becoming the police IG.?

GAMES!!!

Why do i feel the above article is a hoax? One where another is used to fetch the feelings and mindset of others, in order to know the odds of winning a campaign? It's defintely alot of money to run and possibly rigg an election... HHMMM!!!!

GAMES!!!

Why do i feel the above artice is a hoa? One where another is used to fetch the feelings and mindset of others, in order to know the odds of winning a campaign? It's defintely alot of money to run and possibly rigg an election... HHMMM!!!!

PHD!!!

DR
I actually read the article because ribadu name was mentioned unfortunately i just couldn't make any sence out of the whole thing.
May i ask Dr, who among the gangstars that have declared their intentions to run for presidency is better than Mr. Nuhu Ribadu, NONE though that is my personal opinion.
For goodness sake this country has been ruined and if we are not careful in a few years we may not have a country to call our own.If there is going to be a change then it must be a radical change or nothing and trust me guys the man is NUHU RIBADU.Remember that icpc and efcc were created at the same time but one man made the difference NUHU RIBADU

No Burrial Rituals For A Living Man.

Why all this bashing, knocking and battering of Ribadu? Ribadu has not come out to tell Nigerians that he is running for the Presidency and people have started asking how he would run Nigeria. All we have been seeing are pressure groups springing up at different locations to promote the Candidature of Ribadu.

I think it will be insensible to burry a man that has not been battered, crucified and left dead. IBB, Buhari, Atiku, Sekariu, and others have signified their intention to run and such people can then be asked how they plan to run the country but this cannot be said of Ribadu; he has not said it publicly that he's running. And until the man tells Nigerians that he is running, we cannot be belabouring ourselves with how he would run the country.

You don't give job to somebody that didn't apply for a particular post (though it happens atimes in the jungle called Nigeria). Ejiogu should have waited till the time that Ribadu applies for the post of Nigerian President b4 raising his ideological questions or policy directions of Ribadu. If Ribadu applies, it is left to the electorates to decide if Ribadu is capable to lead this nation.

Sentiment apart, I think Ribadu showed some leadership at EFCC. He built that institution from the scratch to world standard. There never an institution like EFCC b4 the task was given to him to execute and he built it with modern infrastructure and technology. He can be described as being an innovative leader.

I wonder what the story would have been if some of the people that criticise Ribadu today were the ones saddled with the responsibilities gievn to Ribadu. Would have built EFCC to local, national, sub-regional, regional or international recognition??????? Many people are experts at running other down when they have not made any noticeable impact on local or national development and growth.

Ribadu can have my vote in an election. I cannot vote for IBB, Atiku and their likes if I am blindfolded because they represent the decadence, rot, under-development, corruption, misrule and backwardness syndrome that is afflicting this country.

@Jimmy Iweala: I have noticed

@Jimmy Iweala:

I have noticed that you ALWAYS use caps. It´s like you´re screaming at us all the time.

Is it possible for you to write WITHOUT the caps?
Thank you.

Surprise! Surprise!! Surprise!!!

E.C. Ejiogu I am surprise you call yourself a Dr. even with your peanut brain. I'm compelled to remind you that Ribadu recovered millions of dollars for Nigeria even at his and family's peril while ilks like you are singing the praises of your Okijia godfather.Ribadu has demonstrated his affection and loyalty to the country -Nigeria, to me that is enough. My question to dr PHD holder, E.C. Ejiogu, how much have you recovered for or contributed to the wellbeing of Nigeria? I guess, the right question is how much have you and your Okijia godfather- murderer embezzled from Nigeria and Nigerians? Go Ribadu, Ribadu go, you will do Nigeria proud as a president.....

The piece is boring.

The piece is boring.I honestly think that Ribadu is overrated

Total Madness

Anybody can come up with a manifesto and promise you heaven and earth, only to do something different when in office. Which is what most of the present presidential candidates have done. The only level means of looking at what the person will likely do, is by checking out what he or she did while in a position of power.

Everybody is aware of what each Presidential candidate has done. E. C. Ejiogu I am not sure what kind of Doctorate you have. Your concerns about Federalism is rather a bit over blown. With good governance all issues would fall in place. Besides who cares if the President is from Ghana as long as he embraces Good governance and delivers the masses form mis rule.

Finally Experience has shown that Ribadu has the best track record when compared with clowns like IBB and Atiku.

Response to Dr. Narcissist

You are intellectually deceitful in your analysis. This write up comes with flaws and mix messages that raise a red flag about you . You cannot write a credible report by refusing to cite your references or sources. As you know, all doctoral programs mandate citations of references / sources when an article is written to ensure validity and credibility. Oh i forgot that you either obtained your PHD degree through those honorary junk or purchase it via mail. Please do not give my PHD degree a bad wrap. You might also want to work on your thought clarification concept. You cannot write However and although within the same sentence, and expect it to translate as a coherent sentence. Your condescending tone towards Mr Onumah is not flattery for a so called educator. Could this be that you a have a "transference" issue with him?. I am equally not in support of Ribadu's job performance or presidential candidacy either, but the man should be given the opportunity to declare before you go on the attack. Your report lacks objectivity, because you failed to provide all potential presidential candidates the same in-depth analysis of their job performances. Therefore, your analysis is subjective and considered invalid. I suspect that the purpose of your article is to discredit, define and develop a negative narrative about Ribadu before he gets the opportunity to do so himself. This is American politics at work Mr Ejiogu . You probably reside in the United States, and perhaps working for a potential Ribadu opponent. You have given me enough clue through this sloppy write up. Alternatively, you might want to volunteer running for the office of the president, since your shit does not stink. But, you must be certain that your background is as squeaky clean as a boys scout , with no baggage attached. Get over yourself Dr. Narcissist, because I am not sure that Eljiogu is your real name.

As for me and my clan Buhari

As for me and my clan Buhari is the Man.

Gbams!!!!!! Dr Ejiogu, Only

Gbams!!!!!! Dr Ejiogu, Only that some nigerians will not comprehend this article because they only understood what they want. lt takes a serious minded person to know that Mr Ribadu is a FRAUD.

NIGERIA IS IN TROUBLE IF WE CANNOT GET IT RIGHT IN 2011

Nigeria is in trouble if a leader is impossed on us come 2011. Jonathan, Ribadu, IBB, Buhari, DR. EC Ejiogbu, Atiku, El Rufai, Dele Momoh and more should express their interest in running for 2011. The consistitutions allows every Nigerian to parcipate.
Let them come out with their manifesto, and let them show 140 million people what they have done in the past. Ribadu or no Ribadu, we need a visionary leader who will not set us back again 20 years. I don't know about Dr. Ejigbu, the road to my home town is inpassble, there is no drinkable water for my people, the schools are delapidated, no single infratructure to show for 8 years of Democrary, hence, I don't care what part of the country, I will express my right to vote for the BEST candidate who can deliver. ENOUGH IS ENOUGH, NO MORE ONE-PARTY STATE.

A good right up for those

A good right up for those with enough mental muscle!

The question of the pre-eminence of corruption in the Niger Area is not in doubt, but that sure has its roots somewhere people! I can state without hesitation that the growth of corruption has a direct relationship with the contraction in the level of true federalism operated in the Niger Area. So, requiring Malam Nuhu Ribadu to come clean on what he intends to do in correcting this anomaly is very apt!

What about the issue of his tribalistic inclinations while at the EFCC?! What about his clearly SELECTIVE pursuit of his anti-corruption crusade? This chap seemingly doesn't have a mind of his own. Like somebody rightly pointed out, corruption is so rife in Niger Area that a BLIND man with Government prompting/backing will become a star from his prowess!! Malam Ribadu should show us how many other Malams he brought to book for their looting of the treasury - he was compromised!

President Jonathan deserves all the support, especially if he continues pushing the Electricity Generation thing. Malam Ribadu would act more like his brethren, Malam Sanusi Lamido, a direction-less "Rambo"!

Where does Malam Ribadu stand in ensuring True Federalism?!!

Ridadu's A Purebred Sociocentric Behaver But Give Me Buhari Then

I pity your article and pity you even more, if you sincerely believe that what has raced Nigeria to the bottom is lack of federalism instead of the choking corruption that has churned two classes of Nigerians: the well-moneyed and the hyper-poor. No middle class!

More so, that you claimed that Ribadu is wrong when he said that lack of good leaders is the bane of Nigeria's backwardness makes one wonder where you IQ stop and your emotional intelligence begins!

In addition, Ribadu might have curse on him due that could not cashier OBJ and his hangers-on for their criminal waywardness but Ribadu is a stand-up man as the most successful corruption-fighter Nigeria has ever had. It burns me badly, that you'd underrate the sincere forwardness with which Ribadu braced the odds to put Jonathan-Goodluck cum Yaradua's corrupt peer governors on trial.

And lastly, who in your mindset is most qualified to be Nigeria's president in 2011? My vote will go to Buhari because corruption is aplenty in Nigeria and Buhari stands out as the most incorruptible to stifle and possibly quench corruption from Nigeria. While jailing and recovering our loots from corruption heavies.

Least I forget, has everyone vying the presidency detailed their political manifesto that Ribadu's own is belated?

www.rig2011electionyoudie@rocketmail.com

What a waste of time reading

What a waste of time reading this nonsense. I do not support and will never support but reading the above will tell anyone why Mr Onumah has not responded to him.

The whole write up is like a madman's rant.

NURU REPRESENTS PERSONAL

NURU REPRESENTS PERSONAL APPLICATION OF SOCIAL JUSTICE/DEVELOPMENTAL POLICIES IN THE FACE OF ROTTENESS. HE IS THEREFORE NOT TO COURTED AS A MAN IN A NEW ORDER.
A RIBADU ELECTED AS PRESIDENT THROUGH THE PALTFORM OF ANY POLITICAL PARTY WILL EVENTUALLY DEFECT TO PDP, BECAUSE HE IS OF THE OLD ORDER.
EACH TIME I RECALL THAT IBORI RENOVATED KADUNA PRISON AND BOUGHT THE BUS USED TO CONVEY HIM TO COURT BEFORE HE WAS ARRESTED, I REFUSE TO BELIEVE NUHU AS A PERSON. HE NEVER WANTED TO PROSECUTE IBORI, BUT EVENTUALLY DID A SHODDY JOB UNDER PRESSURE. THANK GOD THAT SAME IBORI HUNTED HIM OUT ON EXILE.
HE ALSO ASKED NIGERIANS TO PROVIDE INFORMATION FOR HIM TO PROSECUTE IBB - WHAT A DECEIT? INFACT NUHU SHOULD FORGET NIGERIA PRESIDENCY.

Where is your Objectivity?

What is not in doubt within this piece is your concern for Nigeria. Another clear issue is the fact that the academician in you is also raising its head as this would make a good discussion for your graduating Class (If you are truly in academics).

However, the bits that irk me a little are the length of your sentences. They are too long for simple minds like ours to follow while still making sense of the content. But the more serious issue is that you are already calling Ribadu out to declare his manifesto when he has not even announced his candidacy. Your reference to the UPNs and NPNs of this World was not a fair call either. How can you compare an individual with a Political party and claim fairness or objectivity? You'd be better off approaching Mallam Ribadu directly, if this piece is about eking out some political relevance for yourself.

I would suggest that you hold on until Ribadu declares his intention to run for Office before you take him to task on federalism or anything else relating to policy.

All said however, I respect and support your call for our Politicians to declare their manifesto before seeking a mandate. The PDP as a Political Party has not done anything for Nigerians in 11 years because they did not promise anything. If they do not have anywhere in mind for us as a Nation, then everywhere is a valid destination.

Deciet about Saint Ribadu

No coherence and not well written to convey the real message. I personally believe that Ribadu is not the right candidate. I think of we are to talk about the right person, I will choose Buhari in the old school and Fashola in the new generation.
I therefore call on all to support a Fashola president!! NOT THE SARAKIS.... BE WARNED!!!
