An excellent piece. Nigeria was conceived by a prostitute! With junta-made Constitution, it's been nothing but bad news. Naija is Divide-n-Rule taken too far ...far too long. Each day that passes widens the gap between the spiteful non-Federating nations. The ethnic groups hate each other and only come together to try and anihilate any race that seeks self-determination. Only CORRUPTION has held us together. After wasting each other's time for 52yrs, the least this meek S'Sner could do is call for a referendum (SNC) to determine our future as nuclear neighbours! Instead, the Clown Prince wants to build a bigger (party) banquet hall for the upcoming celebration of failure. I personally see no reason to celebrate falsehood,deception and failure. 2014 should be a time of sober reflection,reassessment,repentance & redirection.Let the failed union be revalued & each unit should have a fair imput on which way we must. If we have chosen to remain a country let us all decided each and all should belong. Niger was from christianity. You better check in the history of christianity,but not withstand if the name belonged to Lugard's concubine because the church that sent them to impose imperialism and religion had also permited them to cohibit Nigerian women. If we end up having the 36 state structure after constitution amendment, Sanusi's north continues to provide the overwhelming number of political representatives at the centre; thus the whole of south of Nigeria is jinxed politically. I REFUSED TO READ THIS ARTICLE BECAUSE THE CAPTION AND THE MAP SHOW A CLEAR EVIDENCE OF ATTEMPT BY THE AUTHOR TO DISTORT HISTORY. THE FRAGMENTS SHOWN IN THE MAP ARE NOT WHAT WAS AMALGAMATED IN 1914, SO I WONDER WHAT IS THE MOTIVE OF THE AUTHOR. THIS PORTRAY THE AUTHOR AS EITHER IGNORANT OF HISTORY OR A CASH AND CARRY WRITER THAT CAN BE USED TO PROMOTE SELFISH AGENDA.

He could have concentrated on seeing Nigeria part ways for these republics than playing his foolish politics which landed Jonathan on our laps.

What a brilliant thought by this writer! Breaking the nation into five component parts is the best reasoning in most recent time. The only thing I add is that the resulting spillovers of Christians and Muslims in some of the parts would be allowed to make a choice of which part they would love to be integrated with. Subsequently, the deal is sealed to create five republics. I do wish Sahara Reporters would transfer this writer's piece to its 'immortal' section on this site so that it would remain active for successive Nigerians and non-Nigerians to read and ponder over.

Kayode, that was a very good way of dividing the country. The country is already divided along your proposed lines. Kudos to your inteligent discussion. Only thing though is that you did not mention the CLAUSE that was imbedded in the Amalgamation document that states that the Union has to be reevaluated after 100 years to determine if the Union should continue. This clause is very similar to the clause that the British added to the Hong Kong clause that states that Hong Knog will be returned back to China after 100 years which the British government honored when it gave back the control of Hong Kong to China ten years ago. The year 1914 will be a very interesting year in Nigeria as it is very OBVIOUS THAT THE UNION IS NOT WORKING-hence the inevitability of the disintegration of Nigeria come 1914. So, I endorse your proposed line of demarcation.

Kayode, I really like your analysis. It is strange you mentioned that the interest of Boko Haram should be protected in the so-called Nigeria, while leaving out that of their victims in your analysis(I guess you did it unintentionally). It would have been a more comprehensive analysis, if you had mentioned that we don't need a Nigeria, where Igbos are massacred daily, simply because they are the source of "internal" foreign investment in parts of Nigeria.
