The GOP On The Road To Perdition In 2012

By Dr. Wumi Akintide

I have never believed that the party of Abraham Lincoln could ever sink this low in their paranoia and phobia to get rid of the first black President.

Even though I have by choice become an independent-leaning democrat, I see myself as one voice in the wilderness who passionately believes that the ascendancy of two major political parties in America has been more of an asset to the country than a liability. The GOP in her desperation to beat Obama in 2012 have found themselves in a nightmare by trying to push the ideal of a one party dictatorship in America just like most of the third world countries, Nigeria being the chief culprit. By so doing the Republicans I regret, but happy to say, are helping Obama find his voice and swagger which would carry him to victory as the great champion and defender of the middle class, the poor and the underprivileged in America.

In the meantime, Republicans are being seen as the greatest defender of the richest 1% in America while they could care less about the inequities the remaining 99% have to endure. They are pushing a senseless radical agenda they cannot back away from as America enters into the big league phase of a general election in 2012. It is absolutely bizarre and absurd that the GOP has put herself in a box as we speak. They seem to have forgotten that American voters are among the most sophisticated in the world and that Democracy is first and foremost a game of numbers. If the poor, the middle class, the youths and the elderly in the American society or the great majority of them decide to side with Obama and the Democrats when the rubber meets the road in 2012, the GOP is a goner. It is a prediction. I would remind you I told you so the day after the election.

This prediction is called for because you have in both parties not only individuals that are too far to the right or left of the great divide but moderates and independent thinkers who nearly always make sure that the best interest of the nation is sustained once they get behind the iron curtains of the polling booth to pull the lever for a candidate who they believe can best do that. It seems clear now that the radicals and the tea party ideologues and Blithers now seem to be having the upper hand in the GOP thereby driving the GOP too far to the right.

They all forget that many of the Republicans who have been lucky to be elected Presidents in this country have done so as reasonable and rational individuals who know it serves America better for the two major parties to work together and show some reasonable accommodation like Obama has clearly done in his first 2 years in office. The Republicans have now forced Obama to go it alone because he does not believe the country should be held to ransom. Republicans all seem to forget the immortal and ageless advice of President Kennedy when he said that “those who make peaceful change impossible make violent change inevitable”  The “Take the Wall Street” movement spreading all over the country like a bush fire in the harmattan is a clear validation of that statement.

Republicans also totally misunderstand or misinterpret the refrain of Richard Nixon that you run to the right in the primary season but quickly run back to reclaim the center once the primary season is over and done with. Part of the reason Richard Nixon was nick-named “Tricky Dickie” and why he became the first American to resign the presidency following Watergate scandal was the fact that the nation no longer trusted him. They all saw him as a crook and he himself acknowledged that when he told the nation, “I am not a crook”. But the plain truth is that Richard Nixon never recovered from that stigma even till now.

The Republicans are on their way to permanently ingratiating themselves in a totally negative sense with the American voters in 2012 because they are not going to be allowed to play a Richard Nixon on the voters in this computer and television age where anything a politician has ever said or done could come back to haunt him or her in a big way because the statute of limitation on anything no longer exists. The prospect of a Newt Gingrich presidency has the potential to bring back again the horrors of the Nixon White House. Newt may well be Richard Nixon on steroid, if you get my point.

Compromise, which the Republicans love to hate is not as bad as the radical elements the GOP are making it. It is the central glue that has bound this nation together for close to 250 years and it is what has differentiated the American experiment in democratic government from her counterparts elsewhere around the world but more so in  third world countries.  Barack Obama who is now being labeled as an appeasement mogul by Mr. Weather Cock, Mitt Romney of all people fully understands all of that and would effectively use it to finish off the Republicans. Theodore Roosevelt understood it, and so did Abraham Lincoln and Ronald Reagan, three of the best Republican Presidents to ever lead America. If you accept this logic that is why the Republicans are going nowhere but down in 2012 if you get my point.

If Obama keeps doing what he is doing and if the Republican continues their crusade to political oblivion in 2012, there is no way in the world they are going to win, and you can count on another 12 years of the Democrats in the White House. Its Like what happened when Ronald Reagan held the key to the White House for 8 years and he did enough to guarantee another 4 years for George Bush Sr.

That is the beauty of American Politics that I hope Nigeria should emulate. No political party however wise has a monopoly of wisdom, and none of them are considered too big to fail like the PDP in Nigeria.

It is really up to the

It is really up to the Americans. In my view, they are the lucky ones indeed in so far as the electorates will get what they want. Here, we get what the Peoples Destruction Party imposes on us to eternity? So if the Americans want the ulra right Newt Gings of this world and their TEA Party co travellers who will surely preside over America's destruction ultimately, just as the PDP in Nigeria, then its up to them. We have no tears for a senseless and paranoid people driven by sheer hatred of one peaceloving and man of vision, who will choose the road to perdition in the 2012 Presidential elections. If you ask me, thats entirely their cup of TEA!

Are the most popular, based on 40mm core dimensions,

Valuframe is the t-slotted aluminum extrusions system for economical frame building by Automation Supplies. It's purpose is to replace welded steel fabrications and the more established, more expensive aluminium extrusion systems and aluminium profile systems available in the UK.

THE MALIGNANT DISEASE CALLED BARACK OBAMA

Barack Hussein Obama is the worst occupant of the White House so far. A clueless puppet, Obama has no substance. He engages in flowery rhetorics which amount to nothing. Currently, his job approval rating stands at 43%, the lowest for an incumbent US President in the last November before the elections. Having failed to meet any campaign promise, Obama has resorted to mob rule by unleashing a jobless and unruly gang on the American society. It is only in the warped mind of Barack Obama and his co-travelers in stupidity that hard work is seen as as crime. Obama's greatest achievement so far has been blaming his stark incompetence on George Bush. If Obama had any sense at all he would have pursued jobs creation instead of playing golf. I agree with Vladimir Putin , the Russian PM, "That Mr Obama is able to read someone else' word from the teleprompter does not make him a world leader. HE IS STUPID".

The republicans are the ones

The republicans are the ones not compromising on anything. Do you know that the republicans in the congress have all taken an oath to never increase taxes on any american. The non-regulation of financial industries caused all the current economic woes. Why did republicans elect to have the bush tax cuts continue when it did not help the country in the last twelve years?

Republicans call themselves the christian party, i think they are more like the devil's party. They could care less what happens to the poor man, if he doesn't have health care, that is his problem.

A declining Superpower? Yes, Agree!

But wait, who's responsible for the decline?

It's the smoothtalking weakling BHO who's going around apologizing for the "ills" of his own country. The man may be black, he is an incompetent George Soro puppet who has no business running a country. He's a disgrace to black Africa because every known American president has taken time to highlight their ancestors. Ask Clinton, the Bushes, and others before them about their heritage. They will not be shy about it. Can Obama be proud of his Kenyan root? Not sure! He is afraid of the Birthers.

A declining superpower

American workers are now sharing the same financial figures with their lowly counterparts in the third world nations like Ivory-Coast, Uganda, etc. To the GOP and their TeaBaggers, terms like middle-class, upper-class are liberal scientists' ideas that should be sunk in the ocean. Conquering the 25th century must begin with the elitist one-percenter, even when that race seem to have its finish line end in the the landfill. No society has recorded viable gains accumulated when its leaders are held hostage by just a few 1% of its population. But to those already over-itched for change, those who think they have perfected the art of hidden agendas to blossom their gains-damn what-ever consequences! Romney towers above all the GOP candidates; Newt is the ultimate spoiler, and those who nominate him would ever regret the consequences. Here's a guy who shut down the nation's government for days. Just give him the mantle and watch the domino effect.

Obama must go

Dr Wunmi,

Your article is nice, but I think you need to do more to gather support for Obama. I agree with one of the posters here that Americans are very sensitive when it comes to voting, so sentiments will surely be separated from facts. Obama has to go.

Were you expecting Cain to emerge as the flagbearer in spite of the accusations and allegations? I don't think the failure of GOP to present a black candidate will limit the party's chance next year.

What we all know for sure is that Obama is a smooth talker with less action. What we need is a working President with less observation. This is time for acion. Obama has done less than 20% of what he promised to do. Unemployment rate is rising, no jobs on the street, drug addicts and bi-sexuals are ruining the society! Obama is more like GEJ of Nigeria, no action!

I will surely cast my vote for Gingrich next year because I know he will deliver (I pray he gets it).

You need dose of common sense

Pls you don't seem to make any point with your article. Hope you are not supporting Obama cos is a black man, which will make you a racist. Pls go back and check the manifesto of Barrack before the election and tell us if he has achieved any. He has spend there years and yet he still blames Bush for the continues economic depression, while he promised the Americans jobs jobs jobs. Steve Jobs one of his ardent supporters told him is going to be one term president, simply because he believes Obama fails the Americans. In case you don't know, virtually all the polls show any generic candidate(even Hillary Clinton) can beat Obama in 2012. Dr Wumi I agreed with you that American voters are among the most sophisticated in the world, that is why to them is not necessarily about Party(like the case here in Nigeria) or skin colour(ethnic group or religion) but getting the job done! Pls get some capsules of common sense!

Physician Heal Thyself!

Sorry if this post appears twice but there was a problem with the CAPTCHA.

Anyway, I agree with the previous poster suggesting that you don't need to stress yourself about American politics. Dr. Akintide, what in the world does it matter to you what Abraham Lincoln's party does or doesn't. There are too many political and economic issues to deal with in Nigeria that it's means nothing to an average Nigerian whether or not Obama is reelected. Because the man is black does not make him competent to be elected in the first case, talk less of being re-elected.

Hey Man! Stop Bothering Us With American Politics!

Your eye-service write ups about American politics is becoming irritating. Of course I did not read the trash, I want you to understand that this site is concerned with the well-being of Nigerians, not your Yankee rubbish. Afterall, how many times have you heard Nigerian politics being discussed in American media? Write about Boko Haram, Corruption, Decayed Infrastructure, and all the myraid of problems afflicting Nigerians. Next time you post American nonsense here, expect relentless words of abuses from me. Stupid Sucker!

A broken record, Mr. Akintide

Mr. Akintide, you sound like a broken record. This your pro-Obama moaning ( that is exactly what your whining is ) is getting out of hand. It's clear from your article that the party that should fear perdition more in 2012 is Obama's Democratic party. The reason is simple. The loudmouthed Democratic president has proved over the past three years that having a sharp tongue and being able to string together alliterative words are not enough to govern a country, talk less the fractious American melting pot. Obama has consistently demonstrated that he lacks principles, is amoral and a pathetic hostage of the Tea Party bandwagon he and his ilk love to hate. Does Obama still believe in anything? Today, among other damning epithets, he's a supporter of homesexual depravities, war-monger par-excellence, ultra neo-liberal, instrument of the worst mercantilist exploiters and looters of other people's resources. With a spineless and flip-flopping Obama, the Democrats are doomed. Good riddance!

GOP, the equivalent of Nigeria's PDP

The GOP is the equivalent of Nigeria's PDP that has only succeeded in destroying Nigeria! People in America talk about Obama's failure in resuscitating the American economy but forgetting the fatal blow dealt on the American economy by George W. Bush, as a result of George Bush's war-mongering and tendentious international wars whose raison d'etre has been nothing but will-o'-the-wisp; a type of crying wolf in order to justify the spending of trillions of American dollars in oversea military campaigns. Never had the American dollar been so humiliated than during George W. Bush's time. Yet, the GOP wants Obama to do abracadabra magic and transform the American economy in a jiffy. What the GOP is doing now is only grandstanding in order to cover up the misdeeds of the GOP when it controlled the White House. I do hope the Americans know better and distinguish myths from realities. It is Americans' business anyway. Nigeria has not fared any better in any case.
