Nduka, Thisday Work Against The Growth Of Democracy In Nigeria

By Joe Igbokwe

I write to join millions of Nigerians that have been following Nduka Obaigbena and his Thisday since the paper came into existence in the heat of the annulment of elections in 1993 to condemn the fake 2011 elections opinion poll released on Monday March 21st 2011.

Please recall that Thisday came into existence during the time of Chief Shonekan’s illegal interim government in 1993. Working in tandem with a frightened Shonekan and his unstable government only God knows how he deceived him to close the Guardian and the Punch newspapers just to make way for his paper to sneak into the market.

Nduka and Thisday connived with Abacha to lay siege on Nigerians until the man died in 1998. He switched over to General Abdulsalam Abubakar until democracy was ushered in 1999. Initially President Obasanjo refused to do business with Nduka Obaigbena until he sought a second term in office in 2003. That was when Nduka sold the idea of fake opinion polls to the president Obasanjo’s men. Since then Nduka has been smiling to the banks. He used the same fake opinion polls in 2007 to rig the late President Musa Yar’Adua to power, and I stand to be challenged. If in doubt, please go to the archives to take a look at all Thisday’s opinion polls on all 2007 elections. It is on record that all the decisions of the High Courts, Appeal Courts, Election Tribunals, Supreme Courts rendered nugatory all Thisday opinion polls on 2007 elections.

Please do not forget that the decision of Supreme Court on the Presidential was four Judges in favour of Yar’Adua and three in favour of General Buhari. So what happens to Nduka and his Thisday opinion polls on 2007 elections especially that of Anambra, Delta, Rivers, Edo, Ekiti, Ondo, and Osun States?

A day to the governorship elections in 2007, Nduka’s Thisday said that Lagos is too close to call meaning that it is either PDP or AC. By the time we got to the polling boots, we did not see PDP supporters on ground. Governor Fashola ran away with victory. So what happened to Thisday’s too close to call polls? Absolute rubbish!

In 2011, Nduka and his Thisday think all of us are fools as both the man and his useless paper return to the familiar road. But this time this fraud must be exposed. I make bold to say that Mr Nduka Obaigbena and Thisday should be probed from 1993 till date. I insist that our renascent democracy has been under threat because of the activities of certain individuals and institutions in Nigeria and Nduka and Thisday are part of them. They have been helping to write armed robbers and fraudsters into power since 1999. No wonder this country has frittered away the huge resources it has earned from 1999 till date more than what we had earned from 1960 to 1999.

I submit that this country is where it is today because of what our leaders have made it. And these leaders have not been working alone. They have cronies, Court jesters and robbers who urge them to go on at the expense of 150 million Nigerians. Nduka and Thisday are part of those classes of people and institutions.

I am therefore joining a patriot, Mr Yinka Odumakin to ask ICPC to probe Nduka and Thisday starting from 1993. When we wrote that the latest Thisday’s opinion poll is a fraud, somebody wrote to me that he put a call to his friend working in Thisday to ascertain whether the staff were in the know of how the opinion poll was conducted, the guy said nobody was consulted and no research was carried out. What was fed to Nigerians was a figment of Nduka’s imagination. A job he does every election year to make a living. Nigerians must stop Nduka and Thisday to make democracy work here. Thisday’s opinion polls remain a fraud simplicita!

JUDGEMENT DAY IS NEAR

NDUKA YOUR DAYS ARE NUMBERED ON THE STREETS OF NIGERIA BECAUSE REVOLUTION IS HERE NOW.

This Day is a foreign plant

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thisday

Above is the wikipedia entry for This Day written by a friendly source. The write up shows it's a tool of the CIA, MI5, Mossad and other foreign powers who want Nigeria to remain in darkness so they can steal its masses blind.
In a country with a backbone, he'll be in hiding.

The British media are today touting Jonathan as 'favourite' to win elections in 2 weeks time.

We shall see.

Nduka Obaigbena should be probe !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This is to inform Nigerians that Nduka has a BAD LOAN in GT Bank and the management of the bank have been hiding it from the regulatory authorities. There should be a search light on all is accounts with GT bank. Long Live Nigeria

Opinion poll is opinion poll period.

The Nigerian factor shows itself in every facet of our lives. No one accepts defeat. Never. Even when the actors know that they cannot command majority votes in their village, no, their clan. What is wrong with an opinion poll that does not favor a particular group? In saner climes, opinion poll differs depending on the interest of those conducting it. In the USA, the result of the same poll conducted by MSNBC, FOX NEWS and CNN are never the same. That means the demography used differs. If Nduka is pro establishment, he can chose to conduct a poll favorable to his interest. I think Mr. Igbokwe and that CPC guy are being unduly childish. I had thought these folks represent the intellectual bent in their various campaigns. Why can't The Nation conduct its opinion poll? And to think of it, does ACN or CPC really believe that they have the support to win the presidency? That to me is a tall dream. Anyway, they are preparing the ground for endless litigation to claim victory in the courts, something they can't get at the polls. Well they can keep dreaming. I am not a big fan of PDP, but from all indications, it is the only party with a national reach. Can ACN or CPC claim that sincerely? Not till the fragments of opposition get their selfish tendencies in check, they will never move beyond their ethnic domains.

100 Idle Minds on SR can't Election for ACN, ANPP, CPC

You guys are of little mind. Nigeria is 140 million. Just count the percentage of idle minds here talking bad about the person of Nduka. 100 idle minds on SR can't win election for ACN, ANPP, CPC. You guys so look for something meaningful to do for a living. 1/2 bread is better than chimchim

It seems Nigerians are just

It seems Nigerians are just catching on to this fraudulent organization and its cash-and-carry boss. I stopped reading Thisday long, long ago. You will also never catch me reading New Nigerian or watching NTA news.

Its unfortunate

It is quite unfortunate that there is no country where this kind of stupidity is conducted apart from Nigeria, anybody behaves as he/she likes even at an expense of professionality, i have never seen nor heard of anybody that casted or was interviewed on this opinion poll of a thing, we are not used to it except for the recent introduction by some online pappers that usually had a low turnout within a boundry of 400 to 500 in a country of more than 140,000,000, i support the investigation of thisday from 1993 to date, its unfortunate that we have journalist like this, abuse of professionality

ThisDay had $100M in revenue in 2007 - Obaigbena (Really?)

- New York Times (By ANGELO RAGAZA Published: July 10, 2008)

"...Still, Mr. Obaigbena has not abjured the trappings of power. An elegant man with a blunt, chiefly demeanor and a taste for bespoke Lanvin suits, he maintains a home in Lagos, a country estate in Nigeria’s Delta State and a penthouse at the Ritz Carlton in Washington.

He will not disclose his net worth, but says that ThisDay’s corporate parent, Leaders and Company, of which he owns 95 percent, had $100 million in revenue in 2007. He earned $20 million from real estate and stock holdings.

“I like to live modestly and discreetly,” said Mr. Obaigbena, with no trace of irony."

thank u very much joe igbokwe

mr joe ur exposing nduka and his bad deeds is a very welcome development.odumakin is my man for being buhari's spokesman but i was gonna accuse him on why he said nduka should be probed.but am now out of darkness,we have now seeing reasons why nduka is conniving with pdp to kill our nascent democracy.nduka u will not succeed,u better swallow ur fake opiniom poll,we nigerians disown it completely

Can Jonathan answer these questions at his arrangee TV Debate?

"1) Can Mr President explain what happened to the case of N104m seized from Nancy Ebere Nwosu who allegedy swore to an affidat to the EFCC that she was laundering money for Dame Patience Jonathan?

2) What about the announcement by the then EFCC spokesman,Mr Osita Nwajah on September 11, 2006 that the sum of 13.5m USD was seized from another associate of Mrs Jonathan which the anti-graft body said belonged to the now first lady?

3) Any explanation on the several billions of Naira which DSP Alamiesegha left in Bayelsa coffers as at the time of his impeachment which was allegedy squandered in months by Jonathan without anything to show for it?

4) Who presided over the FEC meeting in October 2009 where a 4 km runnway at Abuja Airport was awarded for N64b?Late Predident Yaradua was already in Saudi Hospital as at the time!

5 What happened to the 30b USD Yaradua left in the excess crude account that is virtually empty now?

6 How come it is only Nigeria under Jonathan whose foreign reserve is depleting among oil producing nations at a time of all time high increase in prices of oil products?

We understand Jonathan is scared of General Buhari promise to check out what happened to the billions of dollars the ruling PDP has sunk to the power sector to give Nigeria further darkness instead of light because he has supervised that sector in the last four years.

No amount of cheap shots will stop the change Nigeria awaits from ensuring that Nigerians enjoy regular power supply starting from finding out what the PDP did to put the light out so that money never pour into procuring darkness in our country again."

- Yinka Odumakin (spokesman for General Buhari)

Much ado about opinion poll

Why are things always different in Nigeria from what obtains in other saner parts of the world? What is all this hullabaloo about Thisday opinion polls. Is democracy not about freedom of speech. Many supporters are already claim g victory for their candidates even when elections have not held....can we then assume they have perfected plans to rig and this makes them cocksure of victory...NO. Please nigerians, let's focus on issues affecting us and do away with all these distractions. Nduka and Thisday can say whatever they like...it is allowed. But what matters in the end is the voice of the people when they cast their votes.

People should boycot liars

People should boycot liars and enemies of Nigeria.

They failed woefully in preparing our minds; may God shame them and their masters!

ThisDay’s Voodoo ‘Trends Analysis’

This is an article from September 15, 2010

ThisDay’s Voodoo ‘Trends Analysis’
By Dr. Peter Briggs

Trends analysis – also known as trends extrapolation – is a systematized pattern of information gathering with a view to spotting a pattern and predicting a future outcome.

In project management studies, it denotes a mathematical technique that uses historical results to predict future outcome by tracking variances in cost and schedule performance.

Trends analysis often begets the twin questions of legitimacy and acceptance: when does the ‘trend baby’ gain acceptance as a bona fide trend? There are of course different ways this could happen such as when it gets enough confirmation in the various media, surveys or questionnaires or from other similar trends studies. But trends analysis could also be used to manipulate reality, mislead, frame a discussion of create a bandwagon effect. In a very influential book, How to Lie with Statistics (1954), the American writer, Darrell Huff, outlines common errors, both intentional and unintentional, associated with the interpretation of statistics, and how these errors could lead to inaccurate conclusions. The funny business of lying cleverly with figures, which Darrell Huff described in the 1950s, is routinely employed by rogue analysts, including in trends studies.

This brings me to the recent ‘trends analysis’ of how PDP delegates may vote, which ThisDay newspaper has been publishing for sometime. The third of such ‘updates’ was published on Tuesday, September 7, 2010.

Nigeria Election Polling by John Campbell

Wednesday, March 9, 2011

According to a recent opinion polling Nigeria, 38.1 percent of respondents “strongly agree” and 34.9 percent “somewhat agree,” “that Goodluck Jonathan is doing a good job as president.” The poll even shows Jonathan with a one hundred percent positive approval rate in Akwa Ibom state, and an average positive performance rating of about ninety percent in the southern states. His lowest score was in Kano with 22.5 percent, but he had an overall approval rate in the North of sixty percent.

The poll, conducted by Ipsos, an international polling firm, was published in This Day, a Nigerian newspaper sympathetic to the Jonathan administration.

I am skeptical that this poll accurately measures Jonathan’s support. Indeed, an approval rating of one hundred percent anywhere stretches credulity. While opinion polls are not unknown in Nigeria, they are not common, either.

Shortly before the 2007 elections, a government cabinet minister came to see me with polling results that ostensibly showed overwhelming support for the governing People’s Democratic Party. In hindsight, the Obasanjo government’s sharing of poll results with the diplomatic community looks like it was part of an orchestrated campaign to try and give credibility to the electoral outcomes despite the massive PDP rigging of the elections. Friends of Nigeria must hope that polling data is not now being used in a similar way before the April 2011 elections.
