Subsidy Probe Committee And The Alleged Bribery Scandal: The Vicious Circle Of Corruption?! Bamidele Aturu Esq

Rep. Farouk Lawan and Femi Otedola
By Bamidele Aturu

The allegation that a member or some members of the House of Representatives Committee that investigated and exposed the fraud in the downstream sector of the oil industry took bribe from an oil magnate or marketer is part of the ever unfolding and nauseating story of the pervasive grip of corruption among Nigeria’s thieving elite.

While, we cannot as yet afford to jump to any conclusion as to whether there is any substance in the allegation, we can warn that the allegation must never under any guise be used as a basis to jettison the Report of the Committee which has been adopted by the House. That will not be acceptable and it will confirm the fear in some quarters that the allegation itself, since we are being told it emanated from a sting operation, might have been orchestrated (not necessarily concocted) to discredit the report. Sting operations are always to be treated with utmost caution even by courts of law as there may be other less than noble agenda behind them. The EFCC and all the other law enforcement agencies should continue with their investigation and speedily conclude same with a view to prosecuting whoever must have been fraudulently collecting subsidies from our national treasury.

The allegation even when proven in my view does not nullify the resolution of the whole House endorsing the Report. The fact that a member or two of a Committee compromised themselves is not sufficient to discredit the Report of the whole House. But having made this point, the members of the Farouk Committee should also be invited by the EFCC and thoroughly grilled so that any of them who misconducted himself or herself can be thoroughly dealt with according to law and if it is not true that it was a sting operation the offer of the bribe should know by now that he or she has booked a ticket to the prison. It is now getting worrisome that each time we probe a scandal another scandal emerges. What a shame!

WE EXPECT TOO MUCH FROM JONATHAN

THIS WAS WHY IT WAS SO IMPORTANT FOR NIGERIA TO HAVE CHOSEN A CREDIBLE PRESIDENT. THE BUCKS STOP AT THE PRESIDENT'S DESK AND IF HE IS INVOLVED IN EVERY THEFT, MISAPPROPRIATION AND ILLEGALITY HOW DO WE EXPECT THAT HE WILL ACT OR ALLOW OTHERS TO ACT? HE IS BUSY LOOKING FOR A WAY TO SAVE FACE BY COLLUDING WITH HIS PATNERS IN CRIME, USING STATE APPARATUS TO DERAIL THE REPORT'S FINDINGS. THE MISTAKE FARUK LAWAN MADE (IF HE ACCEPTED THE BRIBE) WAS TO BE FOOLISH ENOUGH TO ASSUME OTEDOLA , THE PRESIDENT AND ALL THE OTHER OIL MARKETERS ARE DIFFERENT PEOPLE. HE FOOLISHLY THOUGHT THAT IF OTEDOLA PAY THEN THE REST WHO FEEL TOO BIG TO PAY BECAUSE THEY OWN THE PRESIDENT WILL BE AT LEAST EMBARRASSED BY PUBLISHING THEIR NAMES EVEN IF NOTHING WAS DONE. NOW ITS CLEAR THEY ARE ALL IN IT TOGETHER. I HAVE NO HOPE THAT ANYONE WILL BE PUNISHED FOR CORRUPTION UNDER GEJ. SO I AM WAITING FOR CHANGE, HOPEFULLY SOON, SO THAT JUSTICE WILL BE DONE.

GEJ Jonathangate

I do not understand what all this frenzy is all about. SR is not doing enough investigation what we have at hand is a potential Jonathangate. GEJ has the penchant for using state machinery for personal gain as he wire tap ACN and CPC leader. Also he turn the NSA report on Salami to his political heirlings in PDP against the oath of office he took the same way he sent copies of Farouk V Otedola soap opera to ebora owu OBJ against constitutional provisions.
We are allmissing the point of focusing on Farouk Lawan alone attention should be beam on the SSS on whose order did they carry the so call sting does the constitution allow the SSS to eavesdrop on citizen without a court order this are the issues and if GEJ is found culphable he should be impeached the way President Nixon was impeached.

The whole report is compromised

Otedola said Faruk said to him that some PMS importers who played ball had their names removed. This means the whole report cannot be relied on if some name that ought to be there have been removed because they paid bribe.
What a shame Aturu cannot see this.

fuel subsidy bribe scandal

As far as I know, guilty is the one who gives bribe, and also guilty is the one who requested for bribe visa-vis. If Mr otedola is specialised in the importation of diesel,he can as well import fuel as the two items are very very essential comodity. If he has not ever imported fuel, why did he give the bribe of ($620,000) six hundred and twenty thousand dollars cash in three instalments?.
Bob marley righty sang in one of greatest tracks,YOU CAN FOOL SOME PEOPLE FOR SOMETIME,BUT YOU CANNOT FOOL ALL THE PEOPLE ALL THE TIME.This greedy adhoc fuel subsidy committee must be punished,no matteer whose Ox is Gored. May God help our only country Nigeria to face the realities and challenges with a big heart and Justice to enable us achieve our goals amen.

How culpable are you in this

How culpable are you in this whole subsidy scam? I have followed your posts for the past 24 hrs since the story broke and you have not said anything other than kill the probe. It is because of people like you that Nigerian want the probe to stand.

That Farouk was bribed is a TOTALLY different matter from the probe report. Like the thieving Otedola said, Farouk asked him to pay up to get Zenon out of the report. Not that the probe was flawed. Theving brood.

Your evil has caught up with you. We'll soon see the rump of the chicken cause this tsunami has removed all the feathers that you thieves hid under to rob this nation dry.

Ole

The Farouk lawan report was a tool for propaganda, nothing more

SR is still stunned over what has become of its 'celebrated' fuel subsidy probe report. For this concocted Farouk subsidy report, SR and its company of EMERGENCY writers have been having a field day attacking GEJ. I agree there is fraud in the fuel subsidy scheme, after all this is Nig and the fuel marketers are no angels. But the fraud dates back to inception of the scheme. MOST IMPORTANTLY the fraud in the scheme is no where near the magnitude painted by the jaundiced Farouk lawal panel. Not even up to 5% of what was stated by the Farouk lawal panel. The problem with us in Nig is that we'v all lost our sense of reasoning and arithmetics. If Farouk says up to N1.7 trillion was stolen or diverted from the subsidy scheme last yr, then he should also tell us how come we ALL paid N65 per litre for fuel last yr rather than landing cost of N140 per litre? Who paid the balance and how was it paid? By what magic was the country made wet wit fuel so much so that there was no scarcity last yr?

Where is that idiotic dis-educated Ify-democracy-4ever ?

Where is that dis-educated Jonathan crumb-catcher, Ify-idiot-e-ever, who has had multiple orgasm since this Nollywood story broke out. They thought we would get distracted with the cock and bull story of a sting operation that was done almost 2 months ago and yet the culprit is still left to spend the bribe money . Only the foolish would jump into conclusion on this kite being flown by the looters. FOOLS ! ALL LOOTERS SHOULD BE SHOT ! No surprises though, we know corruption will fight back !

farouk must go to jail not matter the lies by tinubu and co

The ongoing Farouk debacle has thought me a very big lesson-9jas are the greatest tribalist on mother earth-May be the hell we have been talking about for centuries, is in 9ja. I cannot imagine for one second that the same 9jas who come here daily to use unprintable names against Jonathan and his wife, would rise up in stout defence of a criminal like Farouk. No wonder some confused minds come here to market Buhari who freed all his fulanis brother caught stealing from jail-tribalism-abi--that is yr bloody business. The point being made here is that the house was never mandated to probe importers of Diesel! Theirs was on those who steal petrol from our refineries and claim it was imported from Barzil and paid in hard currency. Otedola does not import petrol. He is into DIESEL! So the question is why should Farouk now trouble his rotten corrupt soul over the business of Otedola who has nothing to do with FUEL!if he is not a thief!

We need strong INSTITUTIONS &SYSTEMS, not men of 'integrity'

Let the hausa-fulani shameless tribalistic FOOLS continue in their blind disbelief. The same blindness that lead them to commit suicide bombing to transit to their 'paradise' where they'll be rewarded with 7 virgins. Fools that could believe such fallacies, can believe anything. I'm not surprised they still believe Farouk lawal stupid probe report. The report of a man of 'integrity' indeed. I'm not surprised these FOOLS also believe once Buhari is made president by hook or crook, all their troubles will end and there will be job for all, food for all, wife for all, etc. FOOLS!

Farouk must resign and be tried-found guilty jailed 200rs

@wahala, u seem to be suffering from (border line personality disorder) Little did I realise that u could be this confused with all your socalled education. The fuel subsidy probe was not on those importing (diesel)! Its on importers of PETROL.OTEDOLA does not import petrol! So he was not supposed to be invited in the first place! That was why he raised the alarm about the demands for bribe by Farouk! Get that into your fat regional head. Before you start alleging that the man was set up.. I have always stated here that its only Niger Deltans who go to jail in 9ja. Soon it will be we all voted for GEJ rubbish. When Farouk your fulani brother approached Otedola to teach him how the petroleum industry operates, none regarded it as a set up. But as soon as he was caught on camera taking bribe, bakare, tinubu, and dem CIA bank rolled SNG, rise up in his defence.Yet they remind us daily dem want to end corruption-But when caught, we are told Farouk is not ijaw or ibori, so must be set free!

Come to Terms with Baba

I have heard of scandals and cabals, mobs, mafia all over the world. But it is immature of our democracy to be fashioned after the manner of the biggest family in the world (the military), they are a highly disciplined organization unlike their civilian half brothers who knows nothing. Lawan lacks the intelligence to match such sophisticated peolple like Obj. Why do you think IBB keeps quiet when Baba is angry. The house is made of a bunch of thieves, now Baba is right and not a foolish old man. Our house is full of corruption, the father is selling Marijuana, the mother markets Buzz, the sons lives on Coke, while the daughters are Sex-Workers. The house servants (foreigners) Carting away all their Valuables. Its a pity even the dog can be made silent with just a piece of bone. God will deliver us from the evil of greed, corruption and hatred for self.

cabalobribe

The unrepentant and nonpunishable cabals are at it again.

Bamidele Aturu YOU ARE USELESS LAWYER

Bamidele Aturu IS A CONFUSED MAN, BASTARD.

When you stood for mad goat FASHOLA AGAINST THE Lagos house investigations it wasn't worrisome that each time we probe a scandal another scandal emerges.

Shame on you BAMIDELE ATURU. Fool you think every one is a confused person, you take side when it pays your bills,

DIVERSIONARY TACTICS

Hmmm, there they go again. The same way they stopped the power probe by claiming Elumelu and co collected bribes, is the same way they want to stop this subsidy probe. We have been fooled too long. But soon they will realize you cant fool the people all the time. To start with if Jonathan is ready to fight corruption then one of the first thing to do after havign such a desire/will is to declare his assets openly. This is mandatory and shouldnt be issue of choice!

WHILE WE ARE SPEAKING "ENGLISH"

For all those of us who are sickened by the enending corruption scandals coming out of Nigeria, if all we can do is speak English then we are seeing the proof that the looters of our commonwealth are comfortable with that. Until we start organizing ourselves and educating the oppressed to resist the oppression while making clear demands of the government that will be met with sit-ins if resisted, we will always wake up to find ourselves worse off than when we went to bed. Nigeria has never been short of good writers but see where we are today. I was once inflicted by this disease but I now realize that I cannot adopt a technique for my liberation that my oppressor is comfortable with. Before you say the police will kill demonstrators on the street, please realize that there is another form of demonstration called Sit-In where you stay at home for the same reasons that we take to the streets. Will the police engage in house to house search. think about it because time is running out.

Hmmmm

Oga Dele, people collected bribe and wrote nonsense and you said the nonsense makes sense?

Brilliant piece.

Precisely what I called it in my comment earlier, a diversion. The crumb catchers are trying desperately to distract Nigerians from the Committee's Conclusion that Dumbo's political friends dupped Naijas and donated the loot (thru N2N) to the clown's campaign coiffers. Schikena ! The entire House has adopted the findings and it's left to the agencies (who know nothing of any sting operations) to conclude their investigations. This scandalous government has every interest in springing an 'August Surprise' in 'June' just to keep raiding our common treasury. New corruption charges daily while BH murders poor Naijas. The heartless thugs see nothing wrong with the daily loss of lives, their interest is in sharing Malabu, another scandal. Fact is, oil marketers scammed Nigerians and if Dumbo is serious about dropping the bottle, let him stop interfering with on-going investigation. A clear conscience afterall...

@ Bamidele Aturu : Respect !!!

http://omojuwa.com/wp-content

http://omojuwa.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/04/FINAL-SUBSIDY-REPORT..pdf Read on from page 140 and 194 of the the report and see what it has to say on AP owned by OTEDOLA and Zenon oil. This is why he's trying to scuttle the report Zenon oil collected $232,975,383 and did'nt import anything.

Farouk has lot credibility and dependability-

Methinks some 9jas need to have their heads examined and satisfied Ok before being issued with our national passport to enable them travel abroad. That the Farouk debacle is a sting operation must be coming from the figment of the imagination of the writer whom I am sure has links with BH. Farouk has within the last few hours, hired writers upon writers to change the report recorded in the crime sheet against him. Again the man is the biggest fool on mother earth. Only God knows how he managed to win elections to become a member of the house. Every baboon and snoopy dog in 9ja knows Otedola is highly wired to OBJ. How a man with such a brains was able to remove Etteh and investigate the oil subsidy scandal is still a mystery to me!-Its sickening 4 Farouk who is not a mental case to claim he was set up--did he not know that he was dealing with an agent of OBJ before he demanded and received the 600,000 dollars and kept it in house for 2 months? Yet calls it a sting operation? Haba!

What is this man talking about?

This man said we should not "under any guise jettison" the Farouk lawal subsidy report. Who vomited this nonsense article? As far as i'm concerned the Farouk lawal 'cash and carry' subsidy probe report is USELESS. The Farouk lawal probe report that contains only names of those who "refused to play ball" is USELESS and WEIGHTLESS.

FOR CREDIBILITY SAKE ,THE REPORT MUST BE REVIEWED.

If indeed Lawan compromised his position to the extent exposed by the purported sting, the whole report must be reviewed to re-establish its credibility and implementability. If that does not happen all other companies indicted will head to court to challenge the credibility of the report.Farouk Lawan's deplorable antics does not change the fact that the subsidy regime was abused and used as an avenue to defraud our country enormously, rather it should be seen as a blessing in disguise,If a company was not involved,it should not suffer any embarrassment,it should be the responsibilty of the speaker to make sure that a review is speedily done.
The legislative arm of our democracy is now the greatest source of sorrow to Nigerians as they have become the engine room of corruption.OBJ was in order when he raised an alarm recently, the PDP is probably the most rotten political organisation ever in Nigeria's history.

The Oil subsidy scandal

The civilian administration in Nigeria is an unmitigated disaster.

Thank you, Bamidele

Otedola goes wherever the payoff is better. Who knows how much he received for this sting operation!

In my opinion, the bribery allegation points to one thing: that Zenon (Otedola's company) was improperly excluded from the infamous list of oil subsidy scammers. Therefore:

(a) Farouk should be sent to EFCC to sort himself out of the corruption charges
(b) A supplementary report should be prepared on Zenon.

Jonathan should not fool us. They're all his PDP people!
