We Talk About Amnesty As If Things Are Ordinary By Tunji Abayomi

By Tunji Abayomi

No to amnesty! I say No! If we must die,let us not die like dogs.

And if negotiation for amnesty is warranted then let the leaders of the North, who having abandoned their children to be anything, do the negotiation; let them secure the assurance of peace from their children, let them do what is needful for the North some of them love more than Nigeria. Let them do something new for Nigeria.

No to amnesty! I agree with President Goodluck Jonathan but for a different reason. No! am against Amnesty not because Boko Haram is invisible. To the contrary, Boko Haram is very visible in the bombed U.N House and the international workers that died, it is visible in the thousands of Nigerians already murdered in cold blood, it is visible in the churches that have been burnt with helpless worshipers, it visible in the schools senselessly razed down in defeat of the hopes of our children, it is very visible in the many that are terminally wounded in this one – way unprovoked war declared on us. Boko Haram is very visible in the amputees, it is visible in the young children and the fetus in the womb who are denied the right to life. It is visible in the horrible reputation imposed on our nation. It is visible in the unmitigated pains and trauma of parents. Boko Haram is very visible in the shattered buses and bodies of Kano. It is visible in the jail breaks and the scattered Police Stations and very visible in the many senselessly gunned down people in the North.

No! It is not because Boko Haram is not visible that I am against amnesty. It is for the simple reason that we must not as a people or as a Nation surrender our liberty to mass murderers.

Those who talk of amnesty should tell us what Boko Haram wants so that we can find a subject matter upon which negotiation can be erected. They should tell us what to negotiate with extremists and in-humanists whose principle is to murder innocent citizens in cold blood simply because they belong not to their religion which they disrespectfully misunderstand and misapply. They should tell us what will be the purpose of negotiation with illiterates who find power in guns, who insist we should return by force to the Stone Age. Will amnesty change their awful belief that “to kill is a righteous service to Allah" and shout it on the mountain top. No! to amnesty for Boko Haram! No to amnesty, for what is amnesty in Nigeria at any rate other than another corrupt appeasement of illegality and evil.

I also say no to the nations that find explanation for Boko Haram’s terror in poverty. I ask, is there any part of this nation that knows no poverty? I demand, must we wage war on life to conquer poverty? Those who are genuinely poor don’t manufacture bombs, they don’t carry AK – 47s, they don’t boast of evil on the internet. They don’t cut people’s throats while desecrating the Koran by reading it in support of cold blooded murder. Poor people that I know in the North and all over Nigeria don’t maim the poor. What they do is to work in pursuit of freedom from poverty like the ones that helped my mother to give me an education. Poverty cannot justify the choice of evil, after-all; all men know something about poverty.

As a nation, we need to be responsible,and if we are, instead of Amnesty, what we need to do is to arm ourselves in full defense of our liberty, if only to honor the many wailings from the graves that Boko Haram gave to the many who are guaranteed the right to life by our laws and custom but who were mercilessly wasted by Boko Haram.

Nigeria North, for your interest and our benefit, I say no, no to Amnesty!

AMNESTY INDEED

Part 5

Yet we have people that say the only solution is to go the way of amnesty,the decision is not for them,let them go and get the concurrence from the thousands of innocent people that died due to no fault of their, for no crime committed.Yet the ones that perpetrated the crime want to be freed of all atrocities.

This is truly JUSTICE as defined by Dr.Goodluck Ebele Jonathan.What a country,but come to think of it are we not expecting too much from someone that just granted pardon to convicted criminals because he has the power and they are his friends?. I rest my case.

AMNESTY INDEED

Part 4
I am thinking America should have also given the perpetrator of the 9/11 act amnesty,since they also had a reason for the crimes they committed.But no my brothers and sisters, they as a people have respect for human life, and knowing that lives cut short by criminals have to be accounted for,they live and breath JUSTICE for the departed souls of the thousands that died on that day,and they continue to hunt down the perpetrators till today.

AMNESTY INDEED

Part 3
Can they please explain to thousands of people that have been killed,maimed,made orphans,widows,widowers,disabled,traumatized by this ordeal what their crimes are for daring to live as peaceful citizens in their own country?. Not to mention the innocent foreigners delivering healthcare and vaccination,and those killed at the UN bombing in Abuja ,what crime did they commit for daring to help our country,yet their lives were cut short. Even the police,army and other security outfits that have stood against them and have had colleagues,and friends killed by this sect,can they also please explain to them what ideology and principles they stand on today for still being at their duty post doing what they are doing knowing that the sect will be granted amnesty for their crimes?

AMNESTY INDEED

Part 2
We should all note that history does not stand in isolation,and the very thought of this undermines our right to live as free citizens in a country where we are first class citizen.And History will not forgive this action when other groups come out to perpetuate similar heinous crimes under whatever lame and audacious reasons they can come up with to justify their actions.

Why is our beloved Nigeria different, I always seem to ask myself?,other countries will fight terror and injustice as grievous as this with all their might and strength even if it means paying the ultimate price to bring those bastards to book,and make an example to other faceless cowards who decide to,or are contemplating on towing that same path,but no,our dear president and so called fellow northern emissaries of the boko haram sect think otherwise.

AMNESTY INDEED

PART 1
Must we bow to a religious sect that has no conscience because of the coward we have as a president?,or because he does not have the intellect and the human capacity and dignity required of him to find a solution with all the force and might at his disposal as the number one citizen of our beloved country.

My brothers and sisters I ask,are we saying Boko Haram is stronger than the Federal Republic of Nigeria?,so much so that the weak president has opted to take a selfish,self centered and politically atrocious and suicidal decision of granting AMNESTY to a sect that has killed,maimed innocent people indiscriminately under the guise of clamoring for a stop to western education.

WRONG CURE - BOKO HARAM IS NOT MEND

A resounding 'NO'to amnesty forBoko Haram. What does GEJ want to negotiate with BH? Is it the fundamental human right of all Nigerians to freedom of religious beliefs or association? These are rights guaranteed by the Constitution of Nigeria. What is there to negotiate? How do you find a mid-point for negotiation of the demand that GEJ must become a Muslim? He is either a Muslim or is not. There is no mid point. If the clueless regime of Shagari could curb Maitatsine, why is Jonathan throwing in the towel? The very thought of negotiating with them is embarrassing. And lastly, BH is not MEND!! While amnesty may have been the cure for MEND, it is the wrong cure/medicine for BH. They are different ailments requiring different medicines. Thank you.

NO WONDER THIS BIAFRAN ANTHEM

We shall emerge triumphant from this ordeal,
And through the crucible unscathed we’ll pass;
When we are poised the wounds of battle to heal,
We shall remember those who died in mass;
Then shall our trumpets peal the glorious song
Of victory we scored o’er might and wrong.

Oh God, protect us from the hidden pitfall,
Guide all our movements lest we go astray;
Give us the strength to heed the humanist call:
"To give and not to count the cost" each day;
Bless those who rule to serve with resoluteness,
To make this clime a land of righteousness.[1]

All Hail Biafra

NO WONDER THIS BIAFRAN ANTHEM

Land of the rising sun, we love and cherish,
Beloved homeland of our brave heroes;
We must defend our lives or we shall perish,
We shall protect our hearts from all our foes;
But if the price is death for all we hold dear,
Then let us die without a shred of fear.

Hail to Biafra, consecrated nation,
Oh fatherland, this be our solemn pledge:
Defending thee shall be a dedication,
Spilling our blood we’ll count a privilege;
The waving standard which emboldens the free
Shall always be our flag of liberty.

Say no! Say no! Bcos u ar illitrate

U can say no to even current amnesty that spend billions on is with its own ministry, SAY NO! When ministry of boko haram is estb and your say no is simply bcos why they killed xtian and bombeb churches and grand them amenesty. While their fellow terrorist in niger delta killed militaries and foreign wrkers u say yes for it;
for many yrs govt failed to even secure lives anyone frm north like xtians u saying, do u know how much president known them, he fear for them, they stopped him even to visit part of nation as c in c, is the ever president that visit a part of his own country and send all the residence behind closed, markerts roads are all shutdown for until period of his visit with 1000 jtf forces on ground extra guard of 1000 cannot single city. He must pay anything if their is anything more than amnesty.
And this is the his weakness.

NO Amnesty, but Total Secession

GEJ has out-lived his usefulness, if he was ever useful in the first place. As a count-measure, the SOUTH should secede from the impostor-contraption of the British old joke. What would GEJ and the gutter National Assembly do? Does GEJ thinks he isn't walking his final steps as far as the northern oligarqy is concerned? It is very shameful that up till now, the people has yet to grasp the fact that GEJ is a no-show!
He would never advance the continent-hood. It is past time a revolution to dismantle the old British joke. The SOUTH should dare them all to combat if they think we have no big guts!

To those who say GEJ cannot do everything: Have GEJ call for national emergency at the N.A and give a blueprint of the way forward. He can copy the likes of pres.Obama, Lula of Brasil, Nelson Mandela..... he knows them all. When this ogogoro man is finally forced out, he'd find himself in a position similar to old Saddam Hussein.

@Akpos 1 ...ooooh ! your sweet oil money

@Akpos 1 ... E yaah !!! O ma se o !!! Your sweet sweet oil money is to be used to settle criminals in the name of amnesty. What a pity. Pele o. Tunji Abayomi is doubted by your diseased tribal mind to be Yoruba because Yorubas couldn't be against amnnesty for BH. Fool.

What comes around will surely go around. When OBJ was blackmailed by SS governors including GEJ to offer amnesty to MEND, some of us warned on SR at that time that a bad precedent was being laid and that future militants or blackmailers will have to be settled like MEND. What is good for the goose is equally good for the gander.

Looking for BH sponsors, check the list of those who quickly hailed the amnesty plan. GEJ & co sowed a seed in MEND and now reaping a harvest in BH. Since bad precedents have been used to justify GEJ's performance against critics, amnesty for BH cannot be an exception. Very soom MASSOB & OPC will join the train.

U're saying no 2 amnesty is

U're saying no 2 amnesty is it 'coz no one in ur family were involve in dt tragedy, or did wat boko haram doing has become skirmish drama 2 u. Am strogly believe dt ds amnesty is given wit an interest bcoz d president is nt a man of his word, he offer ds amnesty 2 boko haram jst 4 his 2015 re- election he does nt care about d lives of people in d country, am nt sure wit ds amnesty 4rm d president bcoz it wil relapse, he's nt wobble his word is abortive words...

Reflect on Biafra,

'If our blood we must spill to win justice in our fatherland, then let all of us die without a shred of fear" This is the 4th stanza in the Biafran national anthem and its very apt today that we must not chicken out to a graveyard peace and injustice simply for the fear of dying. Of what use really is life if it is not based on equity and justice?????. Can nigeria ever reparate for the pogrom of 1966-70 visited on over 5million hapless and innocent igbo children who died untimely through starvation????. Go on and bribe Boko Haram...Nigeria we are waiting.

What is this writer saying?

What is this writer saying? Pure nonsense! Can you proffer any solutions? There is nothing as annoying as the clamor by Christians not to give amnesty to Boko Haram members? As painful as giving the amnesty to them is , I feel it's a stupid sentiment to go up in arms against, pls let people use their common sense. Government cannot fight these people. Would you rather the FGN insists on no amnesty while they keep killing and maiming Christians ? People say they want to Islamise Nigeria? As fake as most of us are about our religions - being that 90% of us do the things our religions say we should not do, why the sudden religious fervor? IV always said religion will be our undoing in this country. I believe the sensible thing to do is stop the killing and maiming of innocents by any means possible.

NO TO AMNESTY

My dear Mr President, it is with a heavy sorrowful heart that I am writing.
We will face more terror if we go by the way of amnesty.
Will there be trauma centers?
Are you telling me that your government is incapable of protecting the people?
Are you telling me that our armed forces are incapable of protecting the nation and its integrity?
If you were to be my brother, or a confidant, I will tell you in simple language: resign! And let someone who is competent get there!

Tunji.....are you sure you are a Yoruba?

Tunji Abayomi, you have spoken well. I would give you 100% if you mentioned secession. All the same you made over 95% which qualifies you for an award of a certificate of Bravery & induction into the SS&SE hall of fame.

...but Tunji, wait a minute, are you a Yoruba? I doubt it & you know why. It is just not logical that you will be one.

...While Tinubu & the Obas of Oduduwa Republic are ridiculously championing the motion for amnesty for Boko Haram.

Verily verily I say unto you, Nigeria is not a country but a continent. Break up NOW!!!

Long live the United Republic Of the SS&SE

What manner of peace?

What manner of peace Ade? What manner of peace with unprovoked murders and waste of precious lives? Peace of the gravyard? Like Abayomi rightly pointed out, is bad leadership and poverty in Nigeria peculiar to the north alone? No nation can have genuine peace with the way this dumb leadership is going about. Amnesty and peace my foot.

Thank you very much, Mr.

Thank you very much, Mr. Abayomi. The fact that we are ACTUALLY holding this conversation is a sad reflection of just how low we have sunk as a people. Shame on all the people canvassing the lack of justice and possible reward for these scumbags, these scurrilous murderers. The so-called Northern leaders have really lost all sense of decency, justice, and reason. Shame on them and the government officials who are even contemplating this evil scheme. Some of us will soon commence the willful slaughter of innocents and the wanton destruction of lives, knowing that we will ultimately be rewarded and knighted.
Terrorists are hunted down, prosecuted, killed, or jailed for life. Their supporters are pulled in to provide information on what they know about the terrorists. They do not dictate compensatory treatment for terrorists, who are being projected as the victims here, who may be persuaded to "accept" the so-called amnesty.
Shame on them all.

Yes I do agree with you,

Yes I do agree with you, but I think its very wrong to give amnesty to blood suckers and killers. This amnesty is not going to work, because the BH will never stop killings and bombing. Just lets wait amd see the out come.

Jonathan wouldhave given Lawrence Anini amnesty

You have a drunken ogogoro coward as President .... what do you expect ? This idiot would have given OmoBendel's cousins Lawrence Anini and Monday Osunbor amnesty in their hey days !

Shagari crushed Maitasine. Even Yaradua dealt with same Boko Haram but the drunken fisherman was playing politics with Boko haram blaming everything on Buhari until it snowballed and boomeranged in his face. Now he is capitulating because he's desperate to return to power in 2015 and would do anything including licking the asses of those he foolishly accused before.

Shame on the chorus singers OC, Oleku, skpos1, OmoBendel; your choirmaster has changed the song; your lives are worthless !

Amnesty to Boko Haram??

AMNESTY?
TO UNREPENTANT MURDERERS??
The simple logic is - We have only thrown up our hands helplessly in surrender praying and hoping our instrument of surrender would be considered. QED

Amnesty to Boko Haram??

AMNESTY?
TO UNREPENTANT MURDERERS??
Simple Logic: We have merely thrown up our hands helplessly in surrender and only praying and hoping our instrument of surrender shall be accepted by the murderers. QED.

Amnesty or Sincerity of Purpose

Ade u are right,so wats d solution? I wonder if its all about insincerity to ourselves or we easily forget facts, 1st October bomb was immediately claimed by MEND while our hero defended them saying its not them, God revealed d truth tvia a Just n sincere nation were rule of law is First, sentence of 24yrs!!! Everybody knows this will not happen in Nigeria. Our hero once told d world dat he knows who BH are, in his Govt, National assembly,infact everywhere I stand to be corrected! Lately he is saying they r faceless\ghost, which one do we accept? Let's be prayer full, Lord of d Universe is watching, one day Monkey go go market.....TIME!!!

GEJ Beware2

This is a lose-lose situation for GEJ bcos if d amnesty deal falls thru,he'd exacerbate d crisis and further alienate d north he is desperately trying to curry favor with.If it succeeds,and dats a big 'if',he'll anger d other tribes and religions that have borne d brunt of boko haram's attacks.
Negotiation get levels.Dyu think a Taliban will enter d U.S congress,shoot a senator and then say"hey,hey,lets talk.no need for violence eh".Pleaaseeee....these guys are unreasonable.Is GEJ sayin all the spilt blood doesnt count for anything? If Nigeria has to remain one under boko haram's barbaric conditions,then its not worth it.Let things fall apart.I will not live as an inferior citizen in my own "country"

No Amnesty For Bokoharam

I also say No to amnesty to Bokoharam. Any declaration of open amnesty to this group of senseless killers without first negotiating with their leaders will be foolish. Rather than putting pressure on the President, the Northern Leaders should speak to their children and call them to other.
The solution to bokoharam problem is for Mr. President to declare state of emergency in those states were they operate and let the military flush them out. Mr President is unwilling to do this because they are PDP states. I predict that if we foolishly declare amnesty for them another group will rise from other parts of the federation to start their own killing. There will be no end to amnesty.

GEJ Beware1

The writer is spot on! It borders on idiocy when some ppl compare amnesty for MEND wit Boko Haram.MEND had legitimate demands,had known faces,kept a ceasefire wyl d deal was being brokered and did not kill indiscriminately.Boko Haram on d oda hand,among many things have requested all Christians to leave the north and GEJ himself to convert to Islam.Is GEJ willing to trade his "Dr" for "Mallam" all bcos of 2015?

I want to agree with Tunji

I want to agree with Tunji Abayomi. How long will people wake up one morning in this country embark on senseless murder of innocent and helpless victims to pass home a message? After their wanton destruction then we now talk about going to the negotiation table. What about those helpless victims and their families? Somebody please tell me what happens to their loved ones and family? Should they just fold their arms and say it was fate or how God wanted it to be? Because this is what Nigerians are known for. If the so-called Sect had wanted to negotiate before taking up arms they would have done so and if the government had failed to listen to their demands we would be talking about negotiation now. I say no to senseless killings. Hitler was appeased after he went on breaching treaty agreement, he was emboldened to act when the powers that be refused to check his excesses. It's high time we learn to address issues in this country head on. I say no to amnesty for this evil group.
