PHOTONEWS: Dana Crash Site in Lagos Abandoned; Ground Victims Left to Fate

The abandoned site of the June 3 Dana flight 992 Plane Crash at Iju-Ishaga, Lagos is now being overrun by weeds, the street itself deteriorating from motorists and pedestrians’ use.

Once a developing area, Popoola Street suffered a destructive and deadly hit from the Boeing MD-83 craft, which killed 153 passengers on board and at least six persons on the ground.

Among other things, the crash left one building totally crushed.  A furniture company, with an attached warehouse containing two container loads of published books, was also destroyed.

Apart from millions of concerned citizens who trooped to the site on the day of the crash and thereafter, the crash site became a big tour center for government officials for few days.  Six months later, the place is suffering serious abandonment.

A Lagos State Government agency inspected some houses in the vicinity of the crash site and informed their owners that their buildings had seriously weakened foundations from the impact of the crash.

Those landlords and other inhabitants have, however, been left to their fate and left to settle in them.

it would do us a whole lot of

it would do us a whole lot of good if you people verify your claims before posting them here. Is it Dana's fault? Did you know that the Dana MD is Nigerian born? I bet you didn't know that. Can you please proof that there was corruption before I can believe you.

Oga, I am amazed at your

Oga, I am amazed at your reasoning. So, a plane crash is not a top priority in the agenda of the State Government? The Insurance has almost fully compensated the victims of the crash. Its now left for the State Government to act on the site. Its appauling! Let them face issues and stop chasing bikes off the street!

I dont think a lawyer can

I dont think a lawyer can help them at this stage. The Government needs to get its acts together.

Dana airline , master strategist

IT IS OUR OWN FAULT

Until we all rise up and do LIBYA AND OR EGYPT, THESE OUR SO CALLED MONEY LAUNDERERS WE CALL LEADERS WILL NOT LEARN ANY LESSON. THEY GO ABROAD AND SEE GOOD THINGS, HOW PEOPLE ARE COMPENSATED BUT HAVE REFUSED TO DO SAME HERE. WHO SAYS WE CANNOT AFFORD IT. I LIVE IN UK BUT I KNOW NIGERIA IS RICHER THAN UK IF PROPERLY MANAGED. MY FELLOW COUNTRYMEN UNTIL WE RISE UP WITHOUT FEAR AND VIOLENTLY WILL THESE ROGUES TAKE US SERIOUS.

DUMMIES

There was suddenly a plane crash and people's expectation is that the State government should abandon its other commitments and start rehabilitating the victim with its hard earned little resources? Shame! Where is the insurance? where are the regulators? where is NEMA? Where is the Federal government???? Talk is indeed cheap and it's easier to imagine what is possible than doing the possibilities ... We are waiting for when some of these critics will get to power ... those who cant even rule their own small flat!!!

Irrepressible Nigerian Govt

This shows how stupid and irrepressible Nigerian Govt is. Totally noses, and unheard off.

Sick Nation

You call Nigeria a sick nation and my so called "religious" friends will say you have to pray for your Jerusalem.....
When you read things like this you come to wonder if Nigeria is worth praying for..... what is EKO O NI BAJE FASHOLA doing about this or is the land federal govt property.
The unfortunate landlord and tenants are now left alone, what happened to all the social activism that followed this crash, sometime we are even as sick as the greedy leaders.
Other Nations will make this area a monumnet where families of the victims can visit to remember their departed loved ones.
I weep for this nation called Nigeria

The Government is to blame

The Government is to blame for this! Very insensitive.

What a Government!!!

Na wah oh. The Government hasn't done much on this site since the crash. So assuming Dana hasn't done the things they have done to help the victims, the Government would have sat down and watched? What a Government!
And they were shedding crocodile tears at the site some months ago. Come to think of it, how would they do anything, when Fashola is busy chasing motorbikes off the streets. I shake my head for this nation.

LEFT TO FATE...

The more you write, the more they will continue the looting spree, even the thieving governors are clamouring for state police ? Is that the urgent needs that the masses want ? Obviously we all know the intention of their clamouring for such initiative, even without state police, they are ruthless and dictatoring, with state police, the president will have to run for his dear life.
Democracy in nigeria is fast becoming a total failure, although, military is also not a good alternative, the only viable solution is people's revolution, such that either one that take power after, military or politician will know things are no longer at ease.

My advice to them is to get a

My advice to them is to get a good international lawyer so that they can sue DANA air anywhere outside the country because it is a foreign company,if they sue them in Nigeria the same evil forces that restored their operation license will still fight them. They should also include Madam 10% the minister of aviation, ministry of aviation and FGN in the law suit.If they do that let me see if those IDIOTS will not set up.

this is how they want to achieve Vision 20-20

Some Nigerians (the illiterate ones) are quick to compare Nigeria with the United States. Ofocurse, they do so when it's convenient to compare; usually, when they are making a cae for a very expensive government that we honestly cannot afford. It is disgraceful that whil governors and those who hold political office apportion the nation's wealth to themselves, this is what the regular "Joes" are left to deal with. Ultimately, the ball is in the court of Nigerians. Rise up, violently, against the thieves in government, including Fashola and his thieving and even-more-corrupt-than-PDP ACN. Or continue to talk and talk and talk and shout and shout and nothing will happen. A country; a Banana Republic, that wants to be placed side-by-side among the world's greatest 20 economies. Hahahaha........

They should get a good lawyer

They should get a good lawyer to represent them. and take the matter to court.
