PHOTONEWS: How Lagos Went Underwater
Yesterday's heavy rainfall which flooded Lagos showed the city's poor drainage system and infastrucutre as well as its weak emergency disaster response system, raising doubts about Lagos state and the Nigerian government's capability to respond to heavy flooding and other natural disasters.

LAGOS DRAINAGE NETWORK NEEDS REENGINEERING
The Lagos State Government has been a benificiary of thousands of millions of dollars of world bank fund for the past two decades when Fasola was in his infancy in secondary school. What has the State gained from taking this loan, nothing but corruptly enrichment of top government officials in the State plus the world bank loan/debt payback the poor and innocent and the pains of that devastation of the flood of that black Sunday Lagos State tax payers have to bear.To start with, Fasola should institute an enquiry into the use or misuse of the Drainage World Bank Loan in the past 15 years to unmask those behind this disservice of loan misuse,as some of the officials though junior 15 years ago could assist him in knowing trully the diversion of the fund/loan for which Lagosians are stiil paying back.Fasola, act now.

MY PEOPLE FREEDOM IS NOT FREE, STOP BLAMING FASHOLA. BLAME ALL THE POLITICIANS IN NIGERIA WHO ARE PLAYING GAMES WITH PEOPLES LIFE. WAIT TILL BOKO HARAM SPREAD IS CAMPAIGN TO LAGOS MAYBE PEOPLE WILL STOP FEARING AND EVERYONE WILL PICK UP ARMS AND DEFEND THEIR FUNDAMENTAL HUMAN RIGHTS.
wrong u got it
most state dat is populated experience flood so remove overpopulation out of ya opinion.
What the hell is Fashola doing
What the hell is Fashola doing???? Someone should kindly ask him to leave painting Lagos and planting trees in Lagos. He should appoint a capable Commisioner who can clean the drainage system. Lagos was the Federal Capital for over 30 years and since then nothing has been built. All we see is publicity stunts on how Lagos is working
What do you expect when
What do you expect when whole nations or whole ethnic groups leave their regions and villages and shift to Lagos. Sure Reverend Malthus had said it all some centuries ago, why should we blame Fashola. lagos is simply overpopulated. Simply tell your people to stop trooping into Lagos. Stay in your villages and hell holes and give us some space PLEAAAAAAAASE.

Lagos Must Learn from the Netherland
This world belong to those who have mastered nature, at least to an extent. Lagos is a disaster waiting to happen. And the reason is that there is a culture of not doing the right thing the right way. Deceit, corruption, and the list is endless. If Lagos state government is honest, let them take a trip to Netherland to see how some ordinary human beings like us (yes ordinary human beings like us) have learn to live with water in abundance. In fact they "tell" water where to flow, and it does. God gave us this unique brain for a reason. He simply want us to be able to master nature, because nature's tragedies on earth are every day reality. While I am not singling out Fasola, Lagosians and the former/current state government must share the blame. Tell me what right thinking people would be building worthless billion dollar mansions in ditches and swampy lands with no drainage. It can only happen in Nigeria.
The Man FASHOLA
What can we do to please Nigerian,Flood is a natural disaster, it can happen to ant community, it has happened before and it will continue to happen as long as our people continue flush their refuse in our drainage system> The PDP calling fashola to resign in PDP govern state what has their Governor do, nothing, we should appreciate ratter than condemn. FASOLA IS WORKING LAGOS IS WORKING.But i want to advice Lagos state Governor to employ waste management police to checkmate the activities of Lagosian on the act of blocking drainage.
please leave fashola out of
please leave fashola out of this! when i see so-called middle class people throw 'mr biggs' packages out of the windows of their moving vehicles, i know that one day we would all be made to pay the price of this crass disregard for the environment. people block drainages at will, litter water passages and sand fill natural water drain plains for 'blocks of flats'..... ad nauseaous ad infinitum....... what happens is the natural consequence of our crimes...... leave fashola out of it!
Fashola can do better
ordinarily the guy Fashola is really trying,it's a natural phenomenon.Let individuals do their best to keep their environs clean of all dirts in their gutters. This will help cushion the effect of any havoc any impending flood could likely cause.I was personally involved in a minor accident of that Sunday and a friend would also have been overflooded. I want to use this medium to implore the Lagos State Govt to ensure that a good and durable drainage system is channelled to ensuring a free flow of the water and a prevention against any subsequent issues.
negligence
The canals of some part of lagos state have been left uncleared for past 4yrs.
Places like Alaka/Iponri, Ile gogoro/Bode thomas/ animashaun, Ikate /Itire, Ijesha/Aguda, Coker/ orile Iganmu e.t.c. These are few places i visited to verify causes of the flood. It was confirmed that some of these canal has bush , Pawaw and other fruit grown on them.
I appeal to Gov. Fashola, to please look at the problems with mercy.
LAGOSIANS ARE DIRTY BELIEVE IT OR NOT
Take a good look at Ikoyi, Victoria Island, is like the road contractor just pass KG 2,imagine road without gutter how will it be?
1: Refuge every were
2: No gutter
3: Abandon cars, buses that suppose to have buried still pack in the street, just look at their under you will refuges pack their.
4: Dirty cloths that suppose to be burn are thrown inside gutter Why?
And you said that Fashola is not working,He is working, is we that's killing ourself. Let's take caution please my people. Lagos Agaghi Emebi. Eko o ni BAJE.
flood in lagos
politics apart, Jonathan cannot do any magic in Lagos more than what Fashola is doing. Jonathan is yet to have solutions to Boko Haram, Niger Delta, corruption, unemployment, poverty, low skills etc ravaging the country. The Nigeria nation needs total overhauling. the decay in our society is more than what can be corrected within a few days. There is no maintenance culture in place at all. When last has all public infrastructures overhauled? they are in total mess. I sympathise with all those who lost their loved ones, property etc, may the almighty give them fortitude to bear the loss. Finally, Fashola who brace up to deliver the good things for Lagosians. May God help you and your team.
Lagsos Flood
Lagos needs an architectural drainage master-plan. This is immenent and the Federal Government needs to fine-tune plans with the Lagos State Govt to put a lasting measure in place. let's forget politics and self-ego and/or camp-division and develop this country. Lagos is a miniature of Nigeria and thereby deserves the exceptional attention of the Federal Government.
I still dream we will wake-up from our dreamland someday and sincerely develop this country. l will not say more; l will stop here for now.
DO YOU GUYS HAVE ANY SENSE AT ALL?
Why are most of you blaming Fashola for a natural disaster? Most of the structures that block the water ways were built when Fashola was a kid.
Eko O ni ba what?????
Now Lagosian can see what is really happening with Lagos, this is the real deal with nature, now we all need to tell this governor and his party that he needs to step up because eko ti baje pata pata so all this eko oni baje slogan is rubish so let us call a spade a spade we need to stop decieving ourselves. I pray we don't experience anything close to sunami in Lagos state.

flood
The federal government should declare a State of emmergency in lagos. it is no longer news that lagos is situated below sea level. All hand got to be on the deck to help those who have lost loved ones. Eko oni baje o.
Sometimes we need these acts
Sometimes we need these acts of God to remind us who the joke is on.
Nigeria needs an overhaul .
We need men and women with vision.
Or na wa for u!
Instead of sympathizing with the whole lagos state you are busy playing politics with human life, can the umbrella stop the rain from coming down...ode!
RIP
Dear Candida Sunmonu,
I sympathise with you on your loss of your friend but sincerely speaking and apart from other things, Global warming knows no boundaries. We are all guilty of it. We drive cars, use gas, kerosene, firewood for cooking etc.
Lagos naturally is below sea level and we hv to accept it bcos we cannot change it. May he rest in peace.
Cheers and God bless.

PLEASE SHARE MY GRIEF
Hello people,
Please share my grief . I have just heard the news that my friend and his wife died in the bloody Lagos flood of 10/07. I am in pains . Taiwo Oloruntoba was a staff of GTBank. I am full of emotions as I write this. That is another loss to the entire world. A budding star whose lights were prematurely dimmed by the ineptitude of a government and the nation as a whole. Another victim of our collective inability to place a worthy value on our lives. Sad sad sad .
Comments
There are a lot of works to be done in Lagos. Lagos State Government has not tried enough yet, Let us stop praising the government unnecessarily.
