The Bonga Oil Spill and other spills by multinationals throughout the world, operating recklessly in developing and developed regions, has turned into a common scene, affecting the lives of millions of people and communities worldwide.

Companies like royal Dutch  SHELL, ExxonMobil, Chevron and an extensive list of others have continuously devastated environments, rivers, lakes and creeks, not only in the Niger Delta, but throughout the world.

In 2010, the U.S faced their worst spill in the country's entire history, where over 205 million gallons of oil were released into the Gulf of Mexico.

Chevron was recently fined 7 million dollars by Brazil's Environmental Protection Agency for the company's poor handling of their spill in November 2011, off the coast of Rio de Janeiro.

Nigeria's Bonga Oil Spill has reached the shores of Ogulagha, Beniboye and Forcados in Delta state Nigeria, while in the Bayelsa axis the crude has ravaged Letugbene, Odioma, Agge and Orobiri.

The spill is yet to be contained by SHELL and its partners in environmental destruction.

While the Nigerian Government is aghast with the activities of the notorious Boko Haram in the northern region of Nigeria, the companies, especially SHELL, are silently covering up the complete devastation the Niger Delta continues to experience.

The people of the Niger Delta wants the world to make Shell liable for the ongoing destruction of the environment and human life in the Niger Delta region.

Oil Spillage and Boko Haram Bombings

After seeing these oil spillages pictures in the Sahara Reporters web, I felt very sick in my stomach. It is heart breaking that this kind of damage has been done to the Nigerian shores and the so-called Government of Nigeria has not fine time to react. This is just a comfimation tha we have no government in Nigeria. Since Mr. President has no solution to this including the monthly bomming and killing of innocent Nigerians, Mr. President should resign with immediate effect. Under his watch our country is slipping down the abbys. The only thing he thinks will solve Nigerian problems was to remove subsidies on fuel, therefore compounding the suffering of helpless masses.

re-oil spill at BONGA fpso.

yes what we hear is true, about 40,000bbls was spilled while an export was on going, but has the spill gotting to the shore(s) yet.shell brought about corruption in nigeria and the achuall definition of corruption is shell snepco. One for all and All for one.

Another unconfirm lie from sahara reporters

Poverty has cause some people to always look at the monetary value out of an incident. If u believe the pix and stories from Sahara reporters you will believe satan.I had been to the community mentioned, nothing like that.Let wait for the regulators report and see who lies.
NOTE:Before Bonga spill most communities in the ND are polluted mostly from illegal bunkering activities and less of O & G coy equipment failures.

bonga oil spillage

this certainly is a shme on nigeria, withthis magnitude of spillage the nigerian government is saying nothing. remember how the American government was screaming in the case of the gulf of mexico spill. shame on th nigerian government for not caring about the people but the money from the people's enviroment

Will Jonathan sit in Abuja

Will Jonathan sit in Abuja and tell us he is not seeing this? If he cant help his people, then who can?

Not so true

If i was not there,at least one of the river mouths from d ocean,i wil ague dat it has destroyed dat community.there was no trace of oil onshore on close inspection personally. Now i know our own pple kill us.see people coming frm warri gettin ready 4 claims 4 their pockets.its sad.on d otherhand,d naija agency do not have anything 2 check 4 spills....no camera,no sat pics,no planes,no way of gettin genuine info etc.But d fact remains dat SR did not get dis one.they lied*no pics of onshore with oil deposits.SR* get ur facts

Gen Rommel pls get ur facts

Gen Rommel pls get ur facts right before commenting... The fact dt they don't hitch a boat or helicopter ride right at/from d entrance oF ur house where u can monitor it does not mean it dosnt happen. Again, get ur facts right!!

THE CRISIS IN THE NIGER DELTA

We must explore our natural richness for the benefit of present generations, while making reservations for the needs of the unborn generations who would have no other land, to call their own. What is required is a framework for the sustainable development of our natural resources. It entails integration of human rights and development of the local people within the framework of international investment agreements negotiated between Nigeria Government and International Oil Companies (IOCs)
It requires balancing the investment interests of IOCs with the sustainable development of the local communities. It requires the establishment of a Land Reclamation Fund created at the contracting stage to be funded by the Federal Government and IOCs. The contracting parties must deposit reserve funds in an escrow account during each calendar year, specifically to offset environmental clean-up, oil spillage, and decommissioning costs whenever the need arises.

AND TO...

...compound issues, they are asking us to pay 150% more for imported fuel, while they waste ours year in, year out. Sick! Sick!! Sick!!!

Nigeria has no leaders

This is simply CRIMINAL. Had we leaders, this company would be paying billions of dollars in damages to the nation and after wards, would be KICKED OUT OF NIGERIA!!!

Edwin Clark - drink more oil

Crude oil is an effective fertilizer for farm productions. Edwin Kiagbodo Clark’s grand children will never suffer from lack of food and starvation since the lands and rivers of Ijaw are well saturated with crude oil. Saudi Arabia produces 100 times more crude oil than Nigeria and there is no ounce of oil spill in Saudi Arabia. One Nigeria indeed, according to Edwin Clark and Yoruba thugs. Whatever does make you stronger will eventually kill you!

Disgusting

may God save Nigeria from these vultures called oil companies. They intend to finish the environment before the thieves in Abuja wake up to their responsibilities

SHAME ON CORRUPT GOVT THAT HAS PRAISED SHELL FOR CONTAINMENT

Thank God for SR that has produced these pictures of environmental devastation. We are aware that various government agencies including the Senate committee on environment have already commended Shell for contining the spill because Shell has bribed them heavily. How can these vampires do this kind of wickedness to the Niger Delta people. May they not prosper in their wicked scheme. The Niger Delta people should call the attention of international environmental watch dogs to this devastation so as to get the area properly cleaned up and get adequate compensation using the BP case as the benchmark. Enough of this devastation.

Well done SR! Shame on You

Well done SR! Shame on You CNN, GreenPeace & WWFC for failing to show up aerial photos

IF NIGERIANS HAD BEEN QUITE

IF NIGERIANS HAD BEEN QUITE OVER THE YEARS, SHELL WOULD HAVE WAVED THIS OFF SIMPLY. THE PUBLICITY AND ATTENTION ON THIS SO FAR, POINT TO THE FACT THAT THE GOVERNMENT IS WAKING UP TO ITS RESPONSIBILITIES WITH SOME SERIOUSNESS.

LET ME GIVE GEJ THUMBS UP PARTIALLY BEFORE WE HEAR THE FINAL RESULT!

I HOPE THE NIMASA AND OTHER AGENCIES INVOLVED (AUNTY MINISTER, THIS IS YOUR SHELL; SHOW YOUR SWAGGER OR BETRAY YOUR NATION) WILL CAUSE US TO HEAR THE PENALTY PAID BY SHELL.

PLEASE ENSURE THE NATIONAL ASSEMBLY DOES NOT HIJACK THIS, IF NOT THEY WOULD CONDUCT OVER-SIGHT FUNCTION, GET UNDER-SIGHT PAYMENT AND GIVE IT UNDER-THE-CARPET TREATMENT.

Greed!!

After a spillage, oil companies r speedily approachd by our government n dey pay enuf to wade off any probe, but obviously less than the wuld have paid to manage d environmental damage and settle communities directly affected.. Our leaders (chiefs, oba, lga chairman, governors...) have sold us out!

THE MONEY.

God in heaven... If only Nigeria had had good leadership over the decades... She would have made SO much money in oil-spillage compensation payments from the Oil majors to have solved ALL her infrastructural problems, and still have change to spare.

Gaskiya.

Suspend Them

The activities of the oil companies responsible for these spills should be curtailed or halted entirely until they clean up their mess. An independent or international agency should be engaged to assess the damages since these multinationals have "spies" deep inside the corrupt Nigerian government agencies and ministries. The host communities should ignore Nigerian government and appeal to international orgs. for assistance, these spills are becoming rampant.

Opportunity for more bribes by Nigerian Safety Authority.

When the BP announced the 2010 Oil spillage in the Gulf of Mexico & was reported as the worst ever in history. I simply laughed it off, considering what the Mutinational has been doing in Nigeria since the 1950s. The Gulf of Mexico incident had lot of media Coverage & the U.S Government made sure it stayed on the news by demanding live Video feeds from the ruptured well head to be feed to the U.S Public. But in our case, some unscruplous elements in the Nigerian Government meant to oversea & monitor this incident will use this opportunity to ask for more bribes. I believe the pictures being shown above are the Oil slicks reaching the shores. The Nigerian Safety Authority in the Oil industry never pay surprise visits to these Oil fields as they need to hitch Helicopter or boat Rides from the Oil Company to get there.

This is sad

This is sad. this is eveil and they must pay for this soon. Wait and see.
