Police Extortion RoadBlock Kills 30 In Lagos

Burnt car and human as police roadblock leads to multiple accidents in Lagos

Tragedy In Lagos As Police Extortion RoadBlock Turns Deadly For Motorists And Commutters, Over 30 Dead!

These multiple accidents happened after the Nigerian police set up a roadblock that led to the total closure of one lane as they extort motorists on the Lagos -Ibadan Expressway, forcing several motorists to use a narrow side left open. There was heavy traffic build up as a result of police roadblock (they used their van to block one lane while they force other road users to contend for passage on the one lane left) around Otedola Estate Junction on the Lagos- Ibadan Expressway by Berger. Then the worst happened, the brakes of a fully loaded heavy trailer-truck failed and ran over multiples cars and buses. People were trapped in the wreckage crying for help to come out as they were being gutted by a huge fire.

As soon as the accident happened the policemen dismantled their "roadblock" and ran away while the multiple fires from 15 vehicles caught up in the maze killed several commuters.

A belated rescue by the poorly equipped firefighters saved a few lives.

Just wanna cry!! Cry my beloved country!!! Weep, weep my beloved country. They have privatized everything, security, and even human life. Thanks SR for covering this mess. Bandits in power....

Re-

Having read through the article, the writer of the article failed to realised that the accident was not caused by the police road block but non-challant attitude of a careless driver who drove a truck which was not road worthy. The police will have to do their work no matter what we think about them. Most of these lorry drivers and commercial vehicle owners fail to put the safety of their driver and other road users into consideration. weither there is road block or not if people fail in their duty of care to others the same story will repeat itself.

During my last vist to Nigeria, I was travelling on this same ibadan - lagos express way just before sagamu a trailer, heavly loaded faced our direction on the wrong way, we were forced to the nearby bush. the driver who spoke in Hausa started to rain curse on us even when he was on the wrong track.

Nigerian has to change their attitude toward their duty of care to others. Many careless people are out there, their life is nothing to them talkless of others. Pointing accuing finger to a particular set of people or group is unfare. Nobody is free from the problems Nigeria is facing.

Let Onovo Talk

Dear Nigerians,

My mind cuts anytime I open URL to Nigeiran Website. All time, my fear is confairmed.

IGP, ONOVO should come out and tell the Nigerian people why this happened and plans to ensure it will never happen again.

Ironically, He has answers to all the ills of the Nigerian police and nothing is getting better.

Nigerian masses should wake up and talk. God helps those who help themselves.

What a sunday!

I was at the scene of the

I was at the scene of the accident .The carnage was avoidable . The Nigerian Police force should be held responsible for the death of over 30 people and destruction of over 15 cars at the roadbock mounted at a slope and bend at a time traffic was light and free flowing .The Federal Government must bring the officers involved to trial and outlaw mounting of road blocks on highways ,slopes and bends. The ugly incident once again highlights the risk of residing in Nigeria where life is short and brutish

@divine odonwodo, you guys

@divine odonwodo, you guys are either neive or bloody panzie's to actually believe that Jonathan actually reads his so called face book page. for your info, that page is run by hired techy's who have been hired to sell junk to the unsuspecting public. we have done a research on the page to ascertain if we can get his attention by seriously criticing him on the issue of corruption and his lack of foresight in dealing with the issue and it been the bane of the nigerian nation. presto, within minutes, the comments get erased and the so called internet president is read discussing normal make me feel good nigerian topics, when he knows everthing in Nigeria starts and ends with corruption. for everything you do, remember these where the guys that stole your votes in 2007. they wouldnt change overnight would they?

Security

I've always said it without reservations that Nigeria is the most dangerous Country in the World " that is not at a State of War".

TRAGEDY

Some significant action better be taken, this must never repeat itself again!

Police roadblock kills 30

This is totally outrageous.

I strongly urge you to go to Goodluck Jonathan's page on facebook, and demand that the Chief of the Nigeria Police Force be fired.

Until we start demanding accountability from our public officers, scenes like thes...e will never stop. Let them not fool you with calls to "pray for Nigeria".
