How The Nigerian Police Killed Tayo Abe In Ekiti State

On the 2oth of Oct, 2011, a police officer killed Miss Tayo Abe, a native
of Orin in Ido/Osi LGA of Ekiti State and this police officer took to his
heels as soon as he shot this young lady to death. This dastardly act
aroused the anger of the youth in the town by a mass protest to the police
station in Ido Ekiti, the headquarter of the Local Government
Unfortunately, this led to another rounds of shooting by the police, thus
injuring innocent people and armless protesters. The Olojudo of Ido
Ekiti, HRM, Oba Ayorinde Faboro employed all means to pacify these trigger
happy policemen but his pleas fell on deaf ears to the extent that a bullet from the police riffle penetrated the leg of monarch’s aide that accompanied him.
The Inspector General of police, Mr Hafiz Ringim, is hereby called upon to
constitute a panel of serious minded officers to properly investigate and to critically look into this issue and bring the erring officers to book.
This killing must not be swept under the carpet as history has taught us
that such act might be waived aside as it involves an
innocent lady without a bigwigs in Abuja who can pressurize the authority
to take action. This message is to remind our dear Inspector General of
Police that this particular dastardly act would be challenged until
something is done.
We implore the Inspector General of Police to make the investigation
transparent and involve the community members without any prejudice as
this is a serious case of culpable homicide. While the investigation is in
progress, effort must be made to offer treatment to the
the wounded ones during the protest as matter of urgency and priority.
This barbaric act of our Nigerian POLICE must be condemned in a strong terms.

Was it a shot of intent or as a miss?. irrespective of the questions asked , why should civilians be faced by GUN.I am very much aware of Ekiti State having a very PRO-ACTIVE Governor. is he aware? as there is need to investigate and take urgent steps to protect the innocent masses.

I spoke with a police woman who had already spent 9 years in the police who confessed to me that she had never fired a shot either in practice or while carrying out her duties but she goes to checkpoints. Until the corruption is tackled starting from the Police colleges, nothing will change as most police personnel do not know how to safely handle firearms. This is a very serious case of culpable homicide for which the Nigerian Police is recklessly notorious worldwide. The police in Nigeria, like all police formations everywhere in the civilised world, must be made to be aware that its existence is a creation of the constitution and therefore must operate and discharge its duty in accordance with the provisions of the constitution which does not include the killing of innocent citizens. Nigeria Police cannot just continue to "kill and go", it must be "forceably" brought to account for its actions - legal or otherwise. The frequency of random killing for no just reason by the police is a matter of great concern and must be looked into. The Force mustbe constantly reminded that it is an institution set up to protect life and property of the citizenry. At the moment, the power of the police is UNLIMITED. This is what happens when you give a firearm to a monkey. And the NPF is full of monkeys... There are just too many incidences of such extra-judicial police murders that it certainly is time the issue was PROPERLY addressed. These clowns(the trigger-happy NPF) are, literally, getting away with murder- seriously!
Naturally, I expect the NPF to apprehend and charge the perpetrator, pay compensation to the family of the deceased and all injured parties, and be visibly seen to be doing their utmost to STOP these killings!
