Re- First Lady Patience Jonathan On Gold Buying Junket To Dubai And Lebanon

Our attention has been drawn to a malicious on-line news report on Sahara Reporters about the recent trip of Her Excellency, the First Lady, Dame Patience Goodluck Jonathan to Dubai. The report smacks of an attempt by the authors to rubbish the goodwill of a modest woman who has chosen to waive her privileges as the First Lady and travel on a commercial flight for a private visit.

The said report ordinarily should not attract a reaction but for the malicious intentions of the authors who we understand are bent on carrying out the orchestrated plan of their sponsors.

The authors claimed in the said report that Mrs. Jonathan is “known to be interested in buying gold jewelry” and as such concluded that she is in Dubai on a spending spree shopping for gold. This cannot be farther from the truth. It is ungodly and an unnecessary distraction that is not needed now.

For the avoidance of doubt, Her Excellency, the First Lady is on a private visit which has been scheduled long before her husband was sworn-in as President, the assumption therefore that the First Lady took advantage of her present position is in the imagination of the writers.

Her Excellency, the First lady, Dame Patience Goodluck Jonathan did not, will not and does not intend to take undue advantage of her position.

The First Lady has come a long way as the wife of a Deputy Governor, wife of a Governor, wife of the Vice President and wife of the acting President, it therefore defy any logical reason that it is now that she will be scrambling to buy gold. This is uncharitable.

Mrs. Jonathan rather than being vilified should be commended for maintaining low profile, being modest and considerate for choosing to fly a commercial flight for the visit even though she has the privilege of requesting for the use of a Presidential aircraft.

To say that Mrs. Jonathan has “unveiled a high profile presence since her husband became the President” shows how ignorant the writers are and how deficient they are in investigative journalism. Otherwise, they should have known that the only official function performed by Mrs. Jonathan since she became the First Lady was the launching of “Master Care Foundation” the pet project of the wife of the Delta State Governor, Mrs. Roli Uduaghan.

This is in furtherance of her passion to assist the less privileged in the society.   We wonder if speeches are not supposed to be made on such occasions.

We are aware of the intentions of the authors and their sponsors but the President and his wife will not be distracted by these specialists of “Pull Him Down” syndrome in the arduous task of moving the Nation forward.

The report also made reference to the EFCC case of which Mrs. Jonathan has since been absolved.

This is a case on which investigation had been concluded and Mrs. Jonathan was not found culpable, but the detractors continue to make a mountain out of a mole hill.

If she had been found culpable, we are certain that Nuhu Ribadu would have charged her to court because she has no immunity.
We want to state categorically that Mrs. Jonathan has no link whatsoever with the seized N104million and has no knowledge of any $13.5 million dollars. In fact there was never an incident of $13.5million dollars.

We challenge Sahara Reporters to contact Mr. Nuhu Ribadu or Mrs. Farida Waziri to get the facts of the matter.

We state without any iota of equivocation that Mrs. Jonathan has no case against her.  She never had any case to answer. All the controversy was a storm in a tea cup stirred up by political mudslingers in her husband’s home state Bayelsa in the quest for the governorship seat.

Her Excellency the First Lady, Dame Patience Goodluck Jonathan will continue to uphold the dignity of the office of the First Lady and will not relent in promoting the well being of Nigerian Women.

Signed
Ayo Adewuyi
Media assistant to the First Lady

I like the way she was addressed, "Her Excellency, The First lady, Dame ..." Na wa for us Nigerians. We like title no be small. No wonder many Nigerians will die and kill to take up political office so that they will always be addressed as Honourable this, Senator that, former minister for this or former minister for that - no thanks to the Press, because they are the ones inflating the egos of politicians through such tags.

MADAME FIRST LADY PATIENCE, SINCE YOU SAW WHAT TURAI DID, IS IT NOT TIME TO KEEP AT HOME AND HELP YOUR HUSBAND? TIME HAS COME FOR WE NIGERIANS TO RESPECT THE CONSTITUTION OF THIS FEDERAL REPUBLIC AND STOP MAKING A RIDICULE OF OURSELVES. IF IT IS SAID THAT YOU ARE JUNKETTING AROUND FOR GOLD, STAY IN NIGERIA AND STILL ORDER FOR YOUR GOLD, EXCEPT YOU HAVE ANY OTHER HIDDEN AGENDA. THIS IS A TRYING PERIOD FOR YOUR HUSBAND- GOODLUCK, AND AS SUCH YOU NEED TO STAY AROUND HIM NOW. CANDID ADVICE.

Little by little Turai started, same calibre of master of defence and hired rejoinderist wrote many things. What is the end result. If you say she does not steal or loot, we shall see very soon; its like a fruit seller who is trying to hide her pregnance, very soon it will show. Stealing/ looting is a smoke it will express itself very soon. WATCH OUT for more of her exposure.

Mr Adewusi,i want you to understand that whatever you say to defend the 1st lady will offend some people, i think the best policy is silence.when you ignore this comments they will eventually phase out.responding, naturally gives the impression that the information maybe true. provided the first lady is not doing anything wrong by travelling i think you should not give the story credibility by responding. she has a right to travel anywhere, just like you have your own rights. we are always quick to attack our leaders why cant we be patient. we are not saints and if tables were to turn i wonder what we would do? please lets just back off for now!

Ah my people, why cant we give The Jonathans at least one month before all these bad comments on their person. I feel its rather too early. Lets not distract this new TEAM

Yeah, right!

Do you guys say that Mrs. Jonathan has no right to travel and buy gold. her sin is that she is the first lady?
Do you suggest that the media chap did a bad job because he did not give details of the trip? Are just realizing that there is no office called the first lady's? Is it really true that she is not entitled to the presidential jet. If she were your sister would say all these.
Sensationalism and sentiment do not make common sense.Ayo knows what to write and what SR wanted to know from the tail end, He beat you all to the game, Journalist are thought how to get facts, and so they know how to hid it when they want to. Why are so gullible of SR 's trick? come off it and live up. She has all those rights by reason of precedence and she wont be the first in the world so to do. Let us grow up and believe the best of each other. face facts and call a spade a spade, not just anything even a shovel a spade.

what is wrong with you? 'her excellency' is not excellent, no one is, there is no office called 'the office of the first lady' and she is not entitled to a presidential jet.

nigerians are crying out for good, wholesome, clean politicians and their spouses, and your rejoinder only serves to damage patience. you could have wrote simply: "it has come to our attention that this and this was written. For the record, Mrs jonathan's trip is a private one (to visit family members; to conduct business; for medical check up - you know this last one will cause an uproar, however, it will be the truth) and had long been planned. She paid for the trip as a private citizen and I would be grateful if you could print this rejoinder in order to set the record straight."

That is how to win trust and earn respect for mrs jonathan. you must not say silly things like "her excellency, the first lady, dame patience..."

@ Ayo Adewuyi
"....a modest woman who has chosen to waive her privileges as the First Lady and travel on a commercial flight for a private visit..."
For the avoidance of doubt, even Mr. President doesn't have the privilege of using the Presidential Jet for private visits. The jet is for official visits, so if he uses it for private purposes, he would be abusing his officce. The constitution imposed on us does not recognise a first lady, talk more of extending such a bogus privilege to her.

The writer of this defense is simply hopeless and stupid. And God will judge you as refused to pal with the truth.

Fellow Nigerians a worst case of official fraud and stealling is going on in an obscure government office called NERFUND. While every body is focussing on offices like NNPC,INEC,etc, the top management of this little known office is busy laughing to the bank everyday with stolen money. There 've been reports by some Nigerians to anti corruption agencies like EFCC but the MD and his group always knows how to 'settle'.Is President Goodluck Jonathan serious on fighting corruption? Mrs Farida Waziri pls put your feet down and put a stop to this or are you among those NERFUND 'settles'monthly?

...As patriots and public servants (which you should be) there is the conferred responsibility of presenting unpalatable facts to those who employ you so that they can choose to be seen as true servants of the people and not mythical, enigmatic, controversial figures wearing ancestral robes of African god-kings, unquestionable, and enshrined in their own imaginary palaces which might eventually turn out to be their own political sarcophagi. Correct yourself. A word is enough 4 d wise.

....Your office as Media specialists failed to observe the written and unwritten moral codes or imbibe lessons from the failures of those predecessors who ran public office in secrecy and subterfuge. It is yet early in the administration of the new President Goodluck who infers a hopeful sigh at a time few believe the centre will hold out any much longer and needless gossip like this could have been avoided if only she discarded the official "First Lady" title and preferred to be the more 'Private" Dame Jonathan.

@texbee, I just could not stop laughing. Cheers. This Ayo guy could have done a better job with one paragraph of rejoinder by simply telling us exactly what Patience is doing in Dubai. You only use too many words when defending what appears to be indefensible. Let me remind some sycophants again on this forum that Madam Patience has become a goldfish as the first lady even if she was not fishing for gold jewelery in Dubai. Hence there is no hiding place for Patience as every step out of Aso Rock will be strictly monitored. Thank you S/R for taking up this role.

Dear Ayo Adewuyi, your rejoinder was timely and shows you are abreast of issues and responsive. However you miss the point entirely, the minute Mrs.Goodluck decides to be addressed as First Lady and the Nation's resources are employed on her behalf in such ways as hiring a Media Assistant of your calibre, she is no longer "PRIVATE" property. Nigerians should have been briefed as to her "holiday" or whatever she went for. Offices of State are sensitive, just as are the people who occupy them.

It is unprofessional to use your office to insult your colleagues in the pen profession. Are you with Patience to know what she went to do in Dubai? Why are we sentimentalists in Nigeria? This was how we took Turai to be a very gentle woman until she showed us that no man in Nigeria could match her feminine gut,as she kidnapped Umar Musa Yar'adua, the President and kept her till he died. I know our women are always indirectly in control, but we need to wrestle power from them diplomatically. I'm not blaming Patience yet, rather the unprofessional conduct of her press officers.

There we are again, Ignoranimus will call the Press a million names just because their mentor has been reported about. They wont care to ask for details and proves. That is how we all mystify our relations that are criminals but because they are close to us, we would stand in their defence. Dame Patience first shunned the Presidential jet, what for? Modesty or act of trying to shy away from public glare? Was that not how we mistook Turai Yar'Adu's posture and dressing to mean modesty until she kidnapped Nigeria's President, the rest is history. I am not judging Patience, of course we need more patience to know what they can turn out to be but my arsenal goes to thos overzealous press officers that use the advantage of their office to insult professionalism. A better way to act is " We read with dismay the report...." then explain what you know rather than your boss with lies. All hands must be on deck to make NIGERIA our dream land, NO SACRED COWS.

Ayo Adewuyi could not have been hired to speak for the First Lady. She knows how to speak and write. Let us wait for the First Lady to tell Nigeria her story about the trip. It is sad enough that she avoided speaking to the Journalists who met with her and her good friend on their way to the Dubai trade. It is equally sad that the wife of a high profile personality is a petty trader in Dubai and Lebanon where almost all Nigerian Ladies buy assorted goods to sell in Nigeria. Perhaps she wants to make genuine money from her personal struggle. But we hear so much about the property back home and now in Abuja. Such could not have been acquired trough petty trading in Dubai and Lebanon. She will surely speak out when the time comes.

Fake Ayo, you did not deserve your next pay as whatever tittle you hold in the Lame Ops! Dame's cabinet.

What has she gone to do in Dubai? Holiday? Medical treatment? Check children in school? On a mission for Mr. President of Nation? or just decided to display her (new)low profile to Nigerians by flying a commercial flight?

See see now that you deserved to be fired for this primary school essay you write to defend Lame Patient (Yes!) Jonathan.

Patience can go to anywhere anytime for whatever purpose. our constitution does not recognise the office of the first lady so she is as free to go to anywhere for any reason as much as choosing her wardrobe for any ocassion. can anyone of these "pull him down" agents say such nonsense to Turai or Mariam? I beg your pardon, this is not Patience's first time in the corridor of power; and as much as she has not stolen public funds to satisfy personal ends, if her next trip is to the moon - safe journey.

The is no crime in the first lady making a private visit to any destination of her choice, mind you, there are better things to focus on to move the country forward at this time of our history.Madam First Lady is even on low profile level, taking commercial flight (Turai will never do that).Possibly she is trying to find a place to do liposuction,'cause of her body fat..or possibly to look for a money launderer in lebanon,i think the Abachas can give her a clue on how to go about that.''Dubai'' dont even try it there, you will be exposed there, you not a muslim...see what happen to Ibori...Why was Rufai or Ribadu or even Atiku were not arrested in dubai, despite niija govt placing them on interpol list? So Madam thread softly softly...We can help you out if you need help...Use niija money for the people.

There is practically nothing in the media release that Niboro would have taught the media assistant. He did everything right. He issued a press release stating plans by the 1st lady to travel to Lebanon on a private commercial jet enroute Dubai. The joy in the whole exercise geared towards painting Patience black by IBB supporters club, is that Ribadu was never asked to take over the work of WAZIRI. The story would have been, he was nominated to soften the grounds for madam. Patience is free to travel to the moon even though she is now government property. We cannot put her in purdah simply because she is the 1st lady. Those who used our daughters to carry drugs and our wives as pillow cases for them in aso rock, later offered lucrative appiontments in global financial houses cannot be our role models. as they ditched abiola and buhari, so will they twist and suck IBB to his doom in Plateau state-where abiola won hands down.

Dubai is also in Financial difficulties now and are looking for any source of funds to bail themselves out of their crisis, so i wont be suprised if they are also turning themselves into a mecca for ill-gotten wealth. Or why did Ibori run there.

The US leader is simply referred to as "President Obama" and the Wife "Mrs. Obama". Mr. Ayo, you still failed to answer the critical question, what did she go to Dubai to do? Mrs. Goodluck is public property and must declare to us her constituent her plans (or was she meeting up with Mr. Ibori?). If she is going there to source for foreign investors to help develop our nation that I can live with. All these Ajala travel all over the world at our expense must stop, and let’s get down to business of moving the country forward. If SR deceived us, you have made even a bigger mess by not answering the biggest question. What did she go there to do? Finito.

His Excellency, Her Excellency, Dame this, Chief that...... Let’s drop all these accolades & clamor for paper titles. In the real sense of things, these are titles you earn, they are not bestowed. This is what is killing our Nation, our university churns out Engineers upon Engineers, but we have to worst condition of roads & bridges, in the entire world, Zero Power, Somalia even through its 6 years of civil war commands more than 6000 Megawatts of Electricity.

I did so fear that the unceremonious exit of Segun Adeniyi, The Court Jester, would bring about a lax in official idiocy that would dull the wits of our superlative SR readers. However, I am grateful that somewhere a village is missing its prize idiot and the very clown has shuffled his way into Aso Rock as "Media assistant to the First Lady". Oh for joy! Alas the tradition of executive buffoonery will reign supreme under the luck of Jonathan and the sagacious wit of SR will not relent in handing these Aso Rock jesters their respective asses on a hat.

So Mister "Media Assistant to Her Excellency Duchess of Okirika Baronese of Lucre Dame First Lady Patience Jonathan", disregard sound counsel, common sense and simple tact, and persist relentlessly in your own epic odyssey of resplendent stupidity to our hearty entertainment.

Achilles was a fabled fighter that depended on his fleetness of foot to overwhelm his opponents by sheer speed. If I remember rightly it was a chance arrow striking the tendon at the rear of his foot, his achilles tendon that slowed him down to defeat. GJ should watch his achilles! His opponents will zero-in on this and then where would we be?

There is one thing very clear in all the comments here is that everyone condemns Patience, Hausa, Fulani, Yoruba, Igbos, Ijaw, Kanuri, etc. However, when a story is written about our northern looters, you see kinds of animals defending them.

"Her excellency" the first lady of Jonathan's kitchen. Tomorrow please use another commercial flight for your trip to North Korea, China, or Ghana as that hopeless nail polishing woman at the EFCC has said these countries are safe for looters.
