35 Governors Voted During NGF Election – Governor Fayemi

Pro-Jonathan Nigerian governors
By SaharaReporters, New York

The Governor of Ekiti State, Dr. Kayode Fayemi, has said 35 out of the 36 governors voted in Friday’s Nigeria Governors Forum (NGF) election, which was won by the Governor of Rivers State, Mr. Rotimi Amaechi.

“It is on record that all the 35 governors present voted and there is an electronic evidence of this, and Delta State Governor, Dr Emmanuel Uduaghan served as the Returning Officer in the Friday election that produced Governor Amaechi as chairman of NGF,” Fayemi said in a statement in Ado Ekiti.

Amaechi, he reiterated, scored 19 votes while his rival, Governor Jonah Jang of Plateau State, scored 16, a result that upset the pro-Jang group into seeking to set up an alternate governors’ forum.

“Whereas the pro-Jang group had reportedly premised their position on earlier endorsement of Governor Jang’s candidature by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Governors Forum and the Northern Governors Forum, it suffices to state without any fear of contradiction that endorsement of a candidate does not translate to actual votes in any election.

And even if they want to claim it as the result of the election, how come it was originally dated April and  contained the names of Governor Ibrahim Geidam of Yobe State and Governor Hassan Dankwambo of Gombe State who were absent?”

Fayemi pointed out that a candidate can have countless endorsements ahead of an election, but electoral victory is determined mainly by the number of votes he is able to garner at the election itself.

He implored members of the public not to be hoodwinked by the deliberate distortions of the events in the media, and the media to help enlighten the public on the issues at stake in a bid to build a more enduring democracy.

Full text of the statement:

The attention of the leadership of the Nigerian Governors’ Forum (NGF) has been drawn to the distortion of the events leading to the election of Governor Rotimi Amaechi of Rivers State as Chairman of the Forum at its election held in Abuja on Friday.

We are particularly worried about the deliberate misrepresentation of events at the election in the media by some members of the Forum in the bid to justify the setting up of a parallel group, following the defeat of Governor Jonah Jang in the keenly contested chairmanship election.

While we are not interested in joining issues with the Pro-Jang group in their smear campaign in the media, we feel compelled to correct some of the negative impressions being created in the minds of unsuspecting members of the public through a pot pourri of fabricated stories and outright lies.

It is on record that all the 35 governors present voted and there is an electronic evidence of this, and Delta State Governor, Dr Emmanuel Uduaghan served as the Returning Officer in the Friday election that produced Governor Amaechi as chairman of NGF.

Whereas the pro-Jang group had reportedly premised their position on earlier endorsement of Governor Jang’s candidature by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Governors Forum and the Northern Governors Forum, it suffices to state without any fear of contradiction that endorsement of a candidate does not translate to actual votes in any election.

And even if they want to claim it as the result of the election, how come it was originally dated April and  contained the names of Governor Ibrahim Geidam of Yobe State and Governor Hassan Dankwambo of Gombe State who were absent ?

A candidate can have countless endorsements ahead of an election, but electoral victory is determined mainly by the number of votes he is able to garner at the election.

Having won the election, Governor Amaechi had demonstrated statesmanship by making his acceptance speech, which dwelled on his readiness to work with his opponent, Governor Jang and the need for the governors to work with the President of the Country, Dr Goodluck Jonathan in moving the country forward.

Contrary to the rather bizarre position being canvassed by the pro-Jang group, we do not see any reason for us to demonstrate that we won the election. The results of the election, as announced by the electoral officer is clear on the victory of Governor Amaechi. Rushing to Abuja to create the impression of being the so-called authentic Governors’ Forum is not only childish but petty.

At an appropriate time, a meeting of the Forum will be convened. For now, we are busy concentrating on our developmental works in our individual states rather than indulging in smear campaigns and distortions.

We implore members of the public not to be hoodwinked by these deliberate distortions in the media. We also urge the media to help enlighten the public on the issues at stake in a bid to build a more enduring democracy.

Signed:
Dr Kayode Fayemi
Governor, Ekiti State

PDP-Papa Deceive Pinkin or Pinkin Deceive Papa

Jonathan should stop deceiving himself.........
There are governors even among the pro-Jang that are not on his (GEJ) side.

This thing is simple; PDP Governors through force endorsed Jang but through their respective WILL did not vote the same person they endorsed. GEJ cannot win PDP Primary election come 2015. I dey laugh ooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo.

@similex (not verified) on May 27, 2013 - 11:31.

I did not misunderstand the governor. For someone who was trying to clear the air after a misundersanding, he made a complete mess of the situation. Nothing offends me more than a person who claims to have atained the eleveted status of a PHD, to come up with nonsense by way of clarifcation. Any idiot could win an election such as Geoge Bush, but for a seemingly intelligent man to come up with his bullshit is unforgivable.

@Amadu Yau (not verified) on May 28, 2013 - 07:29.

What has this fiasco got to do with GEJ? If the governors can't agree, it is absolutely nothing to do with the Presidency. I bet it was the President's fault that your wife refused to come to bed last night. Complete nonsense!

Aw, this was an incredibly

Aw, this was an incredibly nice post. Taking the time and actual effort to make a very good article… but what can I say… I hesitate a whole lot and never seem to get anything done.

Election In Nigeria

if 35 governors cant do election and the result to be given to who won, definitely the is not going to be credible election in Nigeria. Jonathan you most be confused politician. why cant election take place and winner been honored. Allah ya sauwake muku, barayin banza kawai.

@Uchechukwu aka Aboki

@Uchechukwu aka Aboki Ibrahim,

You said you're sure I will do worst if I am in boko haram shoes. Really? So you consider what your mentor, the boko haram boss is doing as not bad enough? Or if put the other way, are you now admitting to naijas that indeed your tin-god is the brain behind the boko menace?. Pardon my ignorance but please can you throw more light on your own claims?

Thank you!

Watch your mouth Joe Igbokwe. I'm a mariner and I do not want

"Please tell it to the Marines."

Watch your mouth Joe. I'm a mariner and I do not want to be linked to losers alright.

Out voted by the majority of Governors in an election for the chairperson of the Governor's forum. Damn! God forbid that the election worked the way it should be. This too big to lose mantra must stop people. Move-On.Com, ok.

Jonathan must be a selfless

President must be a selfless human being, thank God that he as started loosing, he never know anything, except he admire the true federalism, Before I do like Mr President thinking he as something to offer. This is the begining of his failure. " I DEY LAUGH OOOOO"

You are still living in the

You are still living in the stone age. Politics has evolved to the extent that ideas and what you stand for now counts. It is no longer a party thing, even in Nigeria. At least, from 2011 general election going forward, nothing - absolutely nothing - is predictable in Nigeria politics. People said they don't want Uncle Joe and they vote Tambuwal (against party rule). Expect the unpredictable in 2015 (if there will be 2015)

Your mind and heart stinks.

Your mind and heart stinks. What has Buhari got to do with the topic above. Why attack his personality. Are creating a different history that tends to favour you or is you view different from an average educated Nigerian. Irrespective of where we all come from, we know who has meant well for Nigeria. I guess your type will do worst when you are in Boko Haram's shoes.

Amaechi Is A Traitor To the south

Those congratulating amaechi should think again. The man is a traitor who is simply working for northern interests. He is a selfish man who will be willing to sell the south for his own ambition. Amaechi and his foolish followers have forgotten how the north oppresed the rest of the nation in the past. Now the north is using ameachi and tinubu once the north get power back they will dump them and reconstitute northern domination and opression. Ameachi and tinubu should be fighting for a sovereign national conference and not working for northern interests.

get rid of these morons.

Nigeria does not need states / governors all we need is 6 regions under a parliamentary type government and do away with these project managers / accountant generals of states that think they are what they are not.

no you are

no you are

Please look the faces of

Please look the faces of these bad losers and see the frustration and disappointments. I think that the only saving grace for this crushing defeat is for them to tell the world the election was rigged. Please tell it to the Marines. This is clearly an after thought, a lazy man's approach in facing embarrassing situations like this.GOv Jang's group are investing in the wind. On Amaechi we stand come what may!

Criminal as Returning officer - What do you expect

Imagining Governor Uduaghan as the Returning Officer what do you expect. Let's watch out.

Sure the picture said it all

Sure when a man is trying to betray the inner conscience that God instills into his creatures, he will look like the pictures we saw here. The devil must be there to give the push

You are very stupid

You are very stupid

FACTS AND NOT FICTION

Governor Emma Uduaghan should come out to Nigerians the true picture and the result as a retuning officer because after announcing Rotimi Amaechi winner he is now in support of his fellow PDP governors' colleagues telling us that Jang is the winner. I and other Nigerians need be told the truth/facts and not fiction by Governor Akpabio.

They are simply telling the

They are simply telling the loser in the 2015 election to reject the result and get himself sworn in. PDP abracadabra. Amaechi carry go jo o

CONGRATS AMEACHI

This is just the starting point,by GOD grace u are the next VP.

AMAECHI IS A STOOGE OF OUR OPPRESSORS OF 1960

The question the Ekiti state governor should ask himself is whether the signatures being currently dis played in our national dailies from the governors who endorsed Jang were also forged? I had earlier b4 now warned Jonathan to beware of Amaechi-No sane democract would allow his brain to be used by the republicans, the way amaechi foolishly fell for the antics of tinubu and buhari in APC--the likes of ibori, alams and odili were used and left in the cold by these same set of wazobians who think they own the country more than those of us from the SS-tribalism abi? Let us split the country quietly and stop deceiving ourselves----we are only are united in love because of the oil wells-amaechi is not even a presidential material--examine amaechi from the prism of the cultism he and odili introduced in d SS--ABANDONED PROPERTY POLITICS

minor misunderstanding

hello Amos. you have totally misunderstood the governor. The govenor made mention of those two names and the April date when refering to a list presented by pro-Jang group saying that so so and so people have endorsed Jang so that there will be no need for election. please read carefully again. I do hope that your misunderstanding is not intentional. coz you know sometimes people believes what they want to believe. I do hope you did not fall into that category.

Ameachi u are a man of the

Ameachi u are a man of the people. our able chairman of the govs forum.

U GOT IT ALL WRONG

The Gov Jang group displayed a letter of endorsement dated in April and porpotedly signed by the Governor Dankwambo himself not by his deputy who actually represented him in the meeting. Dr. Fayemi is correct in his postulation.

Why did they all look confused in the picture

The picture above said it all. They all look confuse like a child caught red handed in the act stealing. Jang was looking unto Imokel for a salvation.
And then they followed themselves like this to visit pdp paymasters.
There is no doubt nigeria is in trouble since these are the set of people running the affairs of the state.
Let the pdp riggers be informed that endorsement does not translate to electoral victory. Endoersement can only have its way if there is only one candidate.

Ameachi NGF chairmanship

Ameachi NGF chairmanship election issue,is the handiwork of APC. Ameachi I advised you to be wise enough. You are not better than Atiku or Ribadu.What happened with these two persons at the end? APC will teach you a lesson and you will be rejected later by PDP. Pls be wise.

GREED OF GOVERNOR AMAECHI

Common sense clearly tells me that the so called governors that are not pdp have a hidden agenda. cos i don't see any reason why they will be in so much support of a governor that isn't from there party. so if this so called fayemi thinks he is acting like a honest democrat, then he needs to go back to his drawing board to get his script right. cos as long as this continue,governor amaechi is a traitor to the southern part of Nigeria and more to the south south of the country. u don't pray for ur brother to come back from overseas, when u know his contribution to the family is enormous. so whatever it is that ameachi is yearning for, i completely see it as greed.cos only a greedy person that is completely heartless will wish for the downfall of his brother.

@Jossy, Yeah right Buhari

@Jossy, Yeah right Buhari didn't create a separate government when he lost the 2011 presidential elections but he unleashed his tuaregs to kill and maim corpers. Over 1000 people were killed during the post election violence whilst Buhari looked the other way. Buhari summarily murdered southerners for drug related offences during his regime and then shameless cry blue murder when his boko thugs were killed and demand amnesty for them. This is a man who was the right hand man of despot Abacha when Saro-wiwa was unjustly executed. Buhari remains a dictator who toppled a legitimate gov't via coup. In a sane clime he would be chilling behind bars. Need I remind you that over 3billion dollars PTF fund weren't accounted for while he was the PTF boss. I can go on and on. GEJ surely has his shortcomings but Buhari is worst than a serpent. We say no to a mass murderer whose hands is soaked with blood of dogs and baboons. Period!

FACES OF DEFEATED AND CORRUPT MEN IN AGBERO STYLE

Can we truly see any iota of joy in the fasces of these corrupt men acting in agbero style and who have been roundly beaten to size by an amiable and competent personality. Shame on them, particularly Jang who is associating the name of God with this wicked outing. He should,expect heavenly judgment very soon. For aso rock, they should,know that all power belong to God and what is playing out has divine mandate, ands any mor e,attempts to corruptly distort things about Amaech will lead to those in aso rock suffering monumental losses. It is righteousness and justice that can lift us up as a nation, sin, wickedness, corruption is a reproach that hadw taken over our national life. Time for deliverance is here and let everyone call upon his/her God to make the deliverance come soon. God bless Nigeria.

The simple truth you failed

The simple truth you failed to grab is this, 35 Govs werepresent and voted. The document being brandished contained 19 names out of which 2 Govs were apparently absent even though one Gov sent his deputy, it is expected that, that deputy gov signed his personal name on behalf of his absenteed boss. This, couple with the date on the document confirmed the fact that it was an outdated document. Between that time and now, many things could have happened. There are moles among the PDP camp.
