Anti-Boko Haram Amnesty Groups Pressurizing Jonathan

By SaharaReporters, New York

A series of groups and prominent individuals opposed to the proposed initiative of President Goodluck Jonathan to grant amnesty to the Boko Haram Islamic sect are mounting pressure him to be wary of the consequences.

SaharaReporters has learned that some Church leaders, notably in the North East region where the violent group has done some of its most heinous work, have commenced consultations with the aim of coming up with a common position on the amnesty plan.

A senior Church leader who spoke on condition of anonymity said that they have met with some of Mr. Jonathan's aides and pointed out to them that the presidency is making a grievous mistake and setting a dangerous precedent, describing the matter as very challenging and complex. Jonathan, he said, is playing politics and considering political points instead of allowing security means to contain the insurgency.

"These people have told the whole world who they are, what they want and they are working towards achieving that,” he noted. “They said they are working for Allah and don't need any dialogue.

"What is our own that they have killed Christians and attacked Churches? Who is talking about loss? You cannot compensate and glorify wicked terrorists who have cost a nation much, in terms of killing citizens, burning Churches and homes at their own volition.”
He stressed that what book Haram is doing is wrong, and that people have been turned a lot of Nigerians into orphans, widows and widowers because of their violence, and regretted that the President is being pressurized into amnesty for them.
Another serious implication of the plan, he pointed out, concerns the nation’s defence, as the amnesty would directly undermine Nigeria's military might.
“It will also bring about emergence of other terrorist groups in the future,” he said. “Jonathan should be careful in his action."
It was gathered that the Christian Association of Nigeria and other prominent Christian groups will meet next week in Abuja and thereafter address a press conference to state their position.

Much as I appreciate that the President should make up his mind on this matter, I am wary of this decision for all the reasons articulated above and for GEJ himself. How can you grant amnesty to someone that does not seek it? How can you offer them any kind of settlement? This would replenish their operational capacity, which they are not shy to use against ordinary people going about their business.

It would also make the President look like a fish out of water. Imagine an escalation of violent attacks on innocent citizens after the announcement. Mr. President, be very clear of all the ramifications of such a decision. It is high time Nigerian leaders start taking the security exigencies of its citizens seriously, instead of political expediencies.

Boko Haram

Boko Haram is not a movement, that is it is not an ideology
shared or supported by a large number of people. BH is an organization
whose ideology is shared only by its few adherents. The inability to
identify the membership of the group, especially its leadership, isolate
it and decisively resolve the problem of the organization is simply a failure of
intelligence on the part of the security services; or lack of political
will by the government of the day. Any serious government would have
long resolved the BH menace.

But be that as it may, now that amnesty is proposed for the group,
let those who call for amnesty first identify, engage and convince the
group’s leadership to accept amnesty and renounce violence. Without
first attaining this, amnesty is doomed on arrival. And if that happens
(God forbid), then the nation will be worse off, both security wise and
politically. Both government and the proponents of amnesty MUST tread
carefully on this minefield.

Amnesty My Foot!

So having maimed and taken lives Boko Haram gets amnesty? So what happens to another violent group that may spring up tomorrow? They also get amnesty! Wait a minute, as I think about these I get alarmed at what this amnesty will entail; Kabiru Sokoto, Boko Senator, all the Boko suspects in police custody, Imam Shekau etc etc etc all pardoned and re-integrated among us!? Then...the ones that died in the bombings; UN, Thisday, Madala Church, Jaji Cantonment, Police Headquarters, uncountable Churches in the North, Buses Bombed in Kano and much more, all forgotten!!! Na wao. Our President must be the biggest forgiver in history of mankind. So all those whose loved ones where killed must forgive too? Or would they also be compensated!!?? Politics! Politics!! Politics!!! How many must I lament your ugliness?

Any amnesty for Boko Haram

Any amnesty for Boko Haram must include compensation for their victims, especially Ndigbo. The compensation per head must be equivalent or greater than the value of the amnesty per terrorist. It should also include compensation for destroyed properties including Churches, Luxury buses, houses, shops etc. If they are creating Ministry of Northern affairs then they must also create Ministry of Eastern affairs to reverse the marginalization of Igboland as well as compensate us for the billions Gowon and Awo stole via their £20 for millions policy.

We need serious prayers

Nigerians, dis is d time we need seriou prayers 4 God 2 intervene on dis problem of insurgency in our dear county.

Where is Oritsejafor?

What is reaction of Ayo Oritsejafor in all these? Why is he keeping mute over the BH Saga? Has he been settled and refuse to say anything? Being a CAN president is carryiny the garment of Jesus and he (Oritsejafor) should be ready to lay down his life for the church if he needs to prove the Catholics (Who temporary withdrew their memebership of CAN)wrong in this matter. What insult on Nigerians can be more than what Jonathan is contemplating and no Christian Leader can stand against it. Why is the President and his cohorts talk about compensation for all Nigerians BH had made Widows, Wdowers, Orphans, and homeless but want to compensate the Murderes. may God save NIGERIA from the Hawks

BE WARN MR PRESIDENT.

Mr presindent, there is a verse in quran. boko haram are using to trick you into amnesty which said if they lack money to continue the fight for allah they should take it by force from the kafree and continue the fight of allah. so why are you supporting them. If you give them twenty billion today they will use it to purchase more arms and things will get worst.
It is a disgrace for a leader to entertain fear. a leader must show courage and bravery. when his people sense fear in him they can no longer trust him again. nigerian are not afread then why are you afread?. do not follow men but fellow GOD and do justice. don't let inouncent blood curse you Mr President.

Domination

THE DAY YOU GRANT THE STUPID AMNESTY THEN YOU BECOME A CONFIRED BABA PRESIDENT FLIP FLOP . YOU SHOULD BE SMARTER THAN WHAT YOU HAVE BEEN DOING TO THE NATION IN TERMS OF TAKING DECISIONS .WE XTIAS ARE READY TO DIE THAN GRANT BH AMNESTY . THEY WILL LAUGH AT YOU HEAD OR TAIL .ARE THERE NO LAWS IN THE LAND THEN TIGHTEN THE LAWS LIKE EVERY ONE MUST REGISTER THEIIR GUNS WITHIN TWO WEEKS AND AFTER THAT YOU PAY FINE OF 500000THOUSAND NAIRA. THE IG WHO IS A BH MEMBER HAS NEVER CALLED FOR REGISTRATION OF ARMS . HE IS TALKING ABOUT TINTED CARS HERE WE GO PRESIDENT FLIP FLOP

BE VERY CAREFUL!!!

I strongly believe this Amnesty programme is coming at the very right time as the people that are suppose to be watching the insecurity of this nation have totally failed us - The Nigeria Government and especially the Chief Security Officers of the Northern States.
These Northern Govs were suppose to think of an Amnesty programme for BH but they failed to consider such an action because all they know is sharing of money.
Only recently, the Gov. of Kano state gave scholarship to 100 people from his state to be trained as Pilots; this programme is dangerous and should be discontinued with immediate effect, otherwise, these same people will return from their training and start crashing planes into Govt buildings, Churches and even Mosques in the name of suicide bombing.
We should watch out!!! There is serious danger looming in the air. Kano State Gov is playing with fire.

Re: Domination

As a northerner myself, i have condemned the actions of BK. No religion accepts or tolerates it but however if amnesty is what wil stop the killings and bombings, i wil recommend it to GEJ. Mind you, am not a PDP fan or a supporter of one region or the other. Pls allow peace to reign, ok? (if thats what wil bring peace)

BOKO HARAM NOT ISLAMIC SECT

I have lived in the north all my life and interacted well with Muslims . Boko haram is never Islamic sect but a terrorist group which defies any clear explanation. Just as they kill Christian's , I can count over 100 Muslims whom I personally know that were either killed at the mosques, places of work, at the street or their homes. Their agenda is only known to them and their sponsors. It's a sign of end of time, lets all return to GOD.

Amnesty for armed robbers and kidnappers

While considering amnesty for kidnappers, the Nigerian government should also include kidnappers and armed robbers who have killed so many Nigerians for amnesty.i am sure they will agree to drop their arms if properly settled and forgiven for past crimes as well. God help Nigeria.

BOKO HARAM AMNESTY

One thing I must ask the President to include as one of the terms of reference, of the amnesty committee, in God's name is "to identify the number of people slaughtered by boko haram(christians & Moslems), and their families, properties destroyed and their values(churches, mosques, schools, buildings etc). Then recommend appropriate compensations to all the families affected, their businesses etc. Anything short of these will be resisted by the blood of Nigerians. And God/Allah will punish any committee member who recommends otherwise.

Book Haram Amnesty

I am a Muslim and don't like this amnesty. In the same vein, the JTF does not appear to have a handle on the situation and themselves accused of as many extrajudicial killings as BH. Some suspect the JTF and others involved are making a lot money from the billions spent in fighting BH and want to maintain the status quo. The civilians and the courts have not done anything with suspects arrested by JTF. Meanwhile a large swarth of the country is under lock. Now that elections are coming the president, after(252) 364-3015,011 been upstaged by the opposition, remembers he has not visited the region. MEND, after committing terrorism, was granted amnesty and riches to end their crime. A blank amnesty should not be given to BH but urgent solution to the issue must be found soon even if they may be amnesty. BH may get amnesty from us humans but they will face God for their murder of innocent Nigerians.

WEAK GLJ

GLJ, is making a big fool mistake by granting those bastards called Boko Haram Amnesty. What those innocent ones they have been killed is GLJ will grant them amnesty also? This GLJ is very weak on that sit.

You are talkn of domination

You are talkn of domination after you were naturaly and spritualy dominated, abeg go sitdown nothng u fit do go stop una 4rm bein domintd.

pls understand what we are

pls understand what we are going through here. if amnesty will bring peace so be it. this what obj meant by stick and carrot. enough of trying to wipe the north

Boko amnesty

Jonathan should know that bhs are no longer faceless: they have shown thier faces by calling for amnesty for themselves. Bhs are islamic soldiers that is why all muslims are calling for amnesty for thier soldiers who are doing good work of killing people for thier blood sucking allah. Hell is your home you and bh. There you will be given the amnesty you want. Jonathan should listen them-evil doers.

A president that cannot rely on his word!

It is very unfortunate that this country is rulling by a leader who does not know how to keep his saying. If GEJ can easily be decieved by the Northern leaders to give the amnesty to their terrorist children after he has initialy said NO,that their ghost, then himself will not have an escape route when we the christians started our own revenge. My Big question for GEJ is that, who are the people that those bastard malams will present for the amnesty? Almajiris but not the Bokoharam memebers. Our millitary should not be mess up like that, let them use this boko issues to solve some of their challenges mostly on mordern day millitary oprations with technology. The millitary should continue killing those terrorist including their supporters and all the amnesty agitator.

All these are part of the

All these are part of the fulani agenda-the sultan stated in an interview he granted the Sun that the police officers who in the discharge of their official duties-rightly regunned down Yusuf the leader of boko haram should never be granted bail-yet the same sultan is urging Jonathan to pardon killers-if these murderers can be forgiven then why should Nigeria disturb jonathan for granting Alams pardon--did Alams kill a fly-His is more justified cause he has served his term in jail-even members of Mend were also given life in prison-what will happen to their imprisonment--Most importantly will the amnesty deal for boko haram, free the natives of Jos from the clutches of their tormentors in Plateau state

Reply DOMINATION

Some people they don't what they're saying, BH kill but christian & muslims. Never 4get GEJ said“BH they re in his cabinate they eat 2geda” Go & ask him momo!

Please can someone tell me on

Please can someone tell me on what platform is Jonathan granting amnesty to BH, dey have told us dat dey want to islamise d northern part of dis country knowing fully well dat Nigeria does not belong to and is not an islamic country therefore Jonathan should be very careful in granting amnesty to those criminals n terrorist

u and ur family members will

u and ur family members will fight Boko Haram abi? who will waste his blood for Nigeria?

Sucide bombers are ready to die

These B/H people are zombies just like like the soldiers the government send to kill innocent people. So not talking /negotiating with de top hierachi will be disastrous for the Nigeria. These aqe young men who are brain washed to think they are fighting a holy war

THE IJAW MUST BE ASHAMED OF WHAT THEY GAVE US AS PRESIDENT

As a southerner and a Christian,I do feel the shame of such a weak and illogical man as President so the Ijaw tribe must NOT expect any vote from southerners in future.
JONATHAN HAS SEALED THEIR FATE.HE JUST DOES NOT HAVE A MIND OF HIS OWN.

Don't confuse boko haram with

Don't confuse boko haram with a non existent northern military wing or anything of the sort. If the north has a military wing believe me you will know it. BH is just BH. Everyone hates them and what they stand for. Those calling for amnesty only do so because force has failed and things seem to be getting worse. Amnesty will provide well meaning groups or individuals to engage them without fear or intimidation or even suspicion from either them or govt. Besides, amnesty isn't pardon and there's no guaranty that the group sought for it and will accept it or will agree to the terms it will propose. I for one will like to see an immediate end to all this madness so we can move on as a nation. Unlike some, i choose to have an open mind I don't let hate becloud my reasoning.
NB
"NO JUSTICE NO ". Curiously, you sound EXACTLY like BH!

CAN my foot. They re looser,

CAN my foot. They re looser, since d day they turn political. They lost d fight during d introduction of sharia law, Islamic (aka Jaiz) bank etc, So also Allah will bring them down in this one. We need peace, & we know that CAN need d crisis 4 their campaign against Islam. Pele ejo look 4 something else. What we need is peace associations & not antagonistic body like CAN. Beside ISLAM is too big 4 CAN to fight

Big Trouble

Well finally only God will save Nigeria because the confuson is so much. We can't even confidently tell whether we are moving forward or backwards.

You give amnesty to those you dont know? After than you send every Northerner for retraining because anyone could claim a member!!

This country is finished
