Anti-Corruption Network Gives 14-Day Ultimatum to House of Reps Over Corrupt Ministers

By SaharaReporters, New York

The continuous presence as Ministers in the federal government of Diezani Alison-Madueke and Godsday Orubebe is not only a disgrace to the government and people of Nigeria but also confirmation that President Goodluck Jonathan condones corruption, the Anti-Corruption Network said yesterday.

In a press statement, the group expressed concern that despite the evidence and exposure of the corruption perpetrated by both Ministers, they and others like them still sit comfortably every Wednesday at the Federal Executive Council meeting under the watchful eyes of Mr. Jonathan, who has said he is actively fighting corruption.

The Anti-Corruption Network declared that it may sue the House of Representatives if in the next 14 days it fails to invite the Ministers, recalling that in November 2012, the House adopted a resolution by which it was going to investigate the corruption charges concerning Mr. Orubebe.

“The House went further to set up a Committee to probe these corruption allegations against him, noting with surprise that neither the Petroleum Downstream nor the Anti-Corruption committee in the House has yet invited the Ministers to testify.

“We see this as a serious compromise against the spirit of that resolution as deposited in the vote and proceedings of the House,” the statement said.

“We are therefore calling on the House of Representatives and indeed, the Committees to, within 14 days invite Orubebe and other stakeholders in this matter or face a legal action from the Anti-Corruption Network.”

The group said that in its task of fighting corruption to a standstill in Nigeria, no amount of name calling, blackmail, intimidation, arrest and rearrest, lies and fallacy will detract it from championing the God-given assignment of exposing corruption that is the bane of Nigeria’s development.

According to the Anti-Corruption Network, on November 22, 2012, the House endorsed a motion sponsored by Mr. Odeneye Kehinde on the allegation of a multibillion Naira mansion allegedly belonging to Minister Orubebe at Mabushi in the Federal Capital Territory, which the Minister did not declare as is required by law.

The committees on Anti-Corruption, Drugs/Narcotics/Financial Crimes and Justice were directed to conduct the investigation within 21 days and produce a report.

Four months later, the matter seems to have been hushed up in the House.

PRESS STATEMENT

ORUBEBE: MELAYE GIVES REPS 14 DAYS ULTIMATU
...THREATENS LEGAL ACTION

In our avowed promise to fight corruption to a standstill in Nigeria, no amount of name calling, blackmail, intimidation, arrest and rearrest, lies and fallacy will detract our attention from championing this God-given assignment of exposing corruption that is the bane of our development.

We are surprised that despite all evidence and exposition of the corruption perpetrated by Diezani Alison Madueke and Godson Orubebe, Ministers if Petroleum Resources and Niger Delta Affairs respectively, it is a shame that these two and many more still sit comfortably every Wednesday at the Federal Executive Council Meetings under the watchful eyes of an unperturbed President Goodluck Jonathan.

We recall that the House of Representatives over four monthsago, passed a resolution to investigate the corruption charges on Godson Orubebe. The House went further to set up a Committee to probe these corruption allegations against him. Surprisingly, the said Committees-Petroleum Downstream and Anti-Corruption in the House are yet to either sit or invite Orubebe.

We see this as a serious compromise against the spirit of that resolution as deposited in the vote and proceedings of the House. We are therefore calling on the House of Representatives and indeed, the Committees to, within 14 days invite Orubebeand other stakeholders in this matter or face a legal action from the Anti-Corruption Network.

We also use this opportunity to once again tell Mr. President that the continuous stay as Ministers of both Alison-Madauekeand Orubebe, is not only a disgrace to the government and people of Nigeria but also a confirmation that Mr. Presidentcondoles  corruption.

Otunba Dino Melaye

Executive Secretary, Anti-Corruption Network

 NB:

BACKGROUND INFORMATION TO THE STATEMENT

The House of Representatives had on Nivember 29 2012 ordered an investigation into a “multi-billion naria” mansion said to belong to the Minister of Niger Delta Affairs, Mr.Godsday Orubebe.

The property, located at Mabushi in the Federal Capital Territory, was said to have been built for the minister by a construction firm, SETRACO.

The House endorsed a motion sponsored by Mr. OdeneyeKehinde on the matter and resolved to probe the ownership of the property.

The committees on Anti-Corruption, Drugs/Narcotics/Financial Crimes and Justice were directed to conduct the investigation within 21 days and produce a report.

Kehinde noted that the property had been one of the issues dominating discussions lately in the country.

He said, “There is no evidence that the minister declared the house in his asset declaration with the Code of Conduct Bureau.”

He expressed surprise that neither the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission nor the Independent Corrupt Practices and other Related Offences Commission had considered the issue important for investigation.

Part of the motion he presented before the House read,  “It is saddening for me to have to come up with a motion of this nature to address a matter which ought to have been taken up by our anti-corruption agencies.

“This motion is brought against the backdrop of mounting disclosures of corrupt practices levelled against a sitting minister by some anti-corruption outfits in the country.

“A summary of the allegation runs thus:

The minister has paid for so many phantom projects.

“The minister is presently resident in a house at MabushiDistrict Abu]a built and handed over to him by SETRACO, a construction company that doubles as his crony.”

He added, “The minister’s failure to declare the said house in his asset declaration form with Code of Conduct Bureau, is a case of perjury if established.

“The minister’s financial escapades and liaisons are in Dubai and other corruption shelters overseas.

“These weighty allegations were at first peremptorily rubbished and dismissed by the minister as handiwork of his detractors and some mischief-makers who were out for extortion.

“Since then, he has unfortunately laboured hard using the media to fault these revelations.”

Credibility

Whatever the US may say about corruption or not, we live in the country and know some facts for ourselves.
my facts are that:
> I now have clearly constant electricity supply which was declining ovr the years with each regime
> Licenses i used to pursue at the various ministries takes ages due to bribe requests, but i started getting them without much hassels since last year. Allah be praised!
> No matter how you shout, our leaders do what they want. But i now see a president who sometimes changes stance, not because he doesn't know what is best for the nation, but because the people ask for it. I have seen the president adopt suggestions made on his facebook and thanks the suggester.
..and so on... So i don't care what US says, but my country is getting better.

SORRY TO DISAPOINT YOU

@Sanusi A.Yaradua: so sorry to disappoint you if that is your prayer, he has done well for Nigerians and we are expecting him to do more, when IBB, Abacha, and the rest of others were busy looting the country to a SWISS Bank Account, tearing down the value of the naira, am sure you SECEDING never came to your MIND.

HOW CREDIBLE IS THE ANTI-CORRUPTION NETWORK?

I do understand that The Anti-corruption Network is serving as the voice of the voiceless masses who are suffering the negative concomitant effect of corruption, investigate, expose and inform Nigerians on all forms of corrupt practices in Nigeria, by Nigerians for Nigerians.

if they continue to miss-inform Nigerians about the accuracies of their investigations they themselves will also loss credibility and will be considered an organisation set up for WITCH hunting for selfish interest.

REPLY: TELL YOUR JONATHAN TO SECEDE!

Sanusi, we are not sure what you intended to say, however, we disagree with you that President Jonathan should secede and will not secede even if pressurized by any group including the BH.

All the corrupt leaders in the North have continued to roam around free men including the ones that caused living in Nigeria to become unbearable by the loss of value of our currency. Those who built houses at the mountain top and coverted government farms as theirs. Even those who have used violence as a weapon and created unrest and insecurity in this country.

PRESIDENT JONATHAN WILL NOT SECEDE, HE IS THE BEST PRESIDENT EVER, AND UNDER HIS ADMINISTRATION HE WILL BRING GOOD FRUIT TO THE NATION. THANKS.

The President Fights Corruption

The anti-corruption network was formed in January 20, 2012 and has a life span of 1 year and 1 month yet it continues to exist and expand under the administration of President Jonathan.

With the understanding that the anti-corruption network knows the right processes to accomplish adequate responses from the various bodies established to fight against corruption both by the past and present government.

Their website says that the petition was filed against Orubebe http://www.anti-corruptionnetwork.org/news.php?id=16.

We need to be clear on all matters. The next stage is to engage the national assembly not to make threats but follow proper procedure to make sure that all culprits' are brought to book.

REPLY: fallacy of ad hominem

We are still unclear with what Mrs. Madueke is being charged with. The entire article and report is landed on Orubebe's mansion in Mabushi. Is Orubebe missing in action and no photograph available of him, that at every opportunity Mrs. Madueke's photo is published by SR.

If SR has difficulty in finding photos of Orubebe try this link http://yemojanews.com/2012/04/16/angry-ojobo-youths-stone-niger-delta-mi...
Kindly knock yourself out.

Amazing Report 2

This is the interesting part of the article, "The Anti-Corruption Network declared that it MAY sue the House of Representatives if in the next 14 days it fails to invite the Ministers..."

Why MAY SUE, why not WILL SUE, are they waiting or insinuating that they should be bribed not to sue. What utter rubbish, for an anti-corruption network not to be sure of its intentions blows our minds as to the real purpose of the network. This is to give opportunity for negotiation with the house of reps or Orubebe which ever comes first.

We wish to congratulate the anti-corruption network on their work so far.

fallacy of ad hominem

Your comment is typical of the nigerian political space (and indeed many other parts of the world).. ATTACK THE MESSENGER DISCREDIT THE MESSAGE..
The write-up was clearly talking about allegations of corruption against some sitting ministers, but you chose to digress.
Let's even agree (STRICTLY ) that your allegation against dino melaye is true, and the ones about OBJ/Atiku or IBB/buhari or tinunbu are also true, It still doesn't answer the question on that has been raised in this write-up..
Still doesn't clear orubebe/deizani's name

But they control 83% of your

But they control 83% of your resources, shame on ss/se for dat. U are busy insulting while the real Lords keeps controlling..... U are definitely not thinking

@Otile ...Correct man!

You see, even at 91yrs old & with his neck like Ostrich, Lukmam remained in the oil industry longer than any one dead or alive. Yet, not a single probe.

...after dem tell us say them wan relocate PTI-Petroleum Training Institute from Warri to Kaduna. The evil idea had to be reversed bcos in 24hrs, Abuja would have lived to regret the unwise decision. Idiots. They think the SS&SE is Illorin where the Oba is still hiding in the forest since 1777 while the Emir sits on the throne.

Long live the United Rep of the SS&SE

TELL YOUR JONATHAN TO SECEDE!

Perhaps some agitators for dividing Nigeria are not serious. If they're why couldn't they pressurize their brother (Jonathan) to do that for them? Or he(Jonathan) is not having the same idea as them? Let him come over the media and tell the whole world that he seceded and see for yourself what will happen.

NONESENSE- Where were they only IBB stole $12.7b

These same people have not considered IBB and OBJ then you are talking about Orubebe. Nonsense!!!

Show us the pictures of the houses of IBB and OBJ. These picture are long overdue. Citizens of continent Nigeria want to see the pictures of the houses of Thieves OBJ,IBB, and abdulsalami. Abi them no build house?

Lease Diezani & Orubebe alone. Una no see Bode George? What about Farouk with a mobile vault beneath his cap? What about atiku who moved from civil servant as head of customs to a billionaire?

...Now only Ibori, Silva, Orubebe, Diezani etc una see. Bcos they are from SS&SE Republic. Nonesense.

Long live the United Rep of The SS&SE

rochas the worst governor dat is close to press

rochas will sale us over like judas . and he have developed a criminal fault. i have never seen any doctor dat can cure him. his philothropist disguise posture is just a ploy to deceive the masses and grab power. dat is his political strategy. but is unfortunate dat he is taking advantage of our pple. is only a corrupt doctor dat can heal corrupt sickness bcos he initiated it at the first time. imo have never being lucky since gov mbakwe left. all we being having since den uptill now is a relay race of theives . rochas is holding the baton now .who is d next criminal?

When Nigerians finally have their country in good hands..

When Nigerians finally have their country in good hands, how will these PDP LOOTERS plead: will it be:'let me explain why I stole' or 'That's not what I said'

'After being arrested for stealing a car, the judge asked the man, "how do you plead?" Instead of saying guilty or not guilty the man said: "Before we go any further, judge, let me explain why I stole the car." The judge ruled in record time.'

'When two service station attendants refused to hand over the cash to an intoxicated robber, the man threatened to call the police. They still refused, so the robber called the police and was arrested.'

'Police in Los Angeles had good luck with a robbery suspect who just couldn't control himself during a lineup. When detectives asked each man in the lineup to repeat the words, "Give me all your money or I'll shoot," the man shouted, "That's not what I said!"

CAN A CAMEL PASS THROUGH THE EYE OF A NEEDLE?

Impossible,a thief cannot catch a thief. Does it mean Jonathan is not aware that most of his stewards are thieves? If 'yes' why Tony Anenih is romanced by Jonathan? If people of Nigeria worry much about the shame and disgrace this government of Jonathan is causing to Nigeria let everyone come out in totality to change the government in 2015 elections.

Can Stupid People Fight Corruption?

Stupid people cannot fight corruption.

To fight corruption in Nigeria a person or group must be seen to be articulate, intelligent, and apolitical.

The stupid sponsors of this piece should first finish fighting the past governors, ministers and presidents (especially Obasanjo) who stole billions of public funds.

Whichever region of Nigeria the sponsors come from we want to see them list the names of criminals from there and help us collect the money they stole. After that we shall join the 'crusade.'

Fights for resource control and corruption ends, Yeye

Only in naija will you see someone like Dino melaye talk of corruption. What were his achievements as a one time member of the house of representatives. What are his antecedents as a man who is into politics. What moral rights does he has to condemn corruption after denying the paternity of the child of one Bisi-a nollywood actress. An innocent girl he impregnated through his numerous sex orgies and extra marital affairs. He who comes to equity must do so with clean hands. Dino must surely be eyeing this my beautiful sister Diezani. Wishing to make her one of his mistress. Sorry mr anti-corruption crusader for APC, she's happily married to a proud son of SE republic.

Corruption in naija didn't starts when GEJ became the president 2years ago. They always forgot naija is 52years old. Not 2years old like Buhari/Tinubu wants us to believe. GEJ, Diezani, Orubebe and the Uba's don't own any oil blocks. They are owned by barren and poverty ridden northern mohammedans!

Why not split this country

Why not split this country peacefully instead of trying to disgrace the whole people who own the oil by blackmailing officials from the region? This is wicked. When Alhaji Lukman was the oil minister, he acquired refineries in foreign countries and monopolized oil blocks from our region, and was corrupt to the teeth. Despite his crimes nobody probed him. Why are they harassing Diezani and Orubebe? Can any of our own former corrupt officials such as Bankole, Ohakim, Aninih or even our own Iyabo lay any legitimate claim to groundnut pyramid blocks as Lukman, Danjuma, Sanusi, and others do to our God-given oil? No.
