CNPP Gives FG Seven Days To Accept Ezekwesili’s Debate Challenge, Or Face Prosecution
Conference of Nigerian Political Parties (CNPP) today gave the Federal Government a seven-day ultimatum within which to organize a public debate between the Minister of Information, Mr Labaran Maku or any of its officials with former Minister of Education Obiageli Ezekwesili, or face prosecution for unbridled and wanton looting of the national treasury.
The Conference said in a press statement signed by Osita Okechukwu, its National Publicity Secretary, that its ultimatum follows Mrs Ezekwesili challenge thrown in connection with the allegation of monumental corruption bordering on the squandering of $45 billion and $22 billion Foreign Reserve and Excess Crude Accounts respectively by the Yar’Adua/Jonathan administrations.
“We are alarmed that instead of responding to the grave allegation made by Mrs Ezekwesili the presidency tepidly said, ‘it is obviously preposterous for Mrs Oby Exekwesili to be asking for a National Debate on the outlandish and reckless disinformation she made to incite the Nigerian people against the government. This was deliberately calculated, albeit unsuccessful effort to bring the Jonathan administration to disrepute unjustifiably,’” the statement said.
It pointed out that many public commentators, anti-corruption crusaders and the CNPP itself have severally bemoaned the pervasive corruption in the land, the criminal squandermania of Nigeria’s patrimony and uncommon culture of impunity, in the last 13 years.
“However, it is our considered view that this debate is germane, absolutely necessary and a matter of urgent national importance based on the fact that Mrs Ezekwesili is not an ordinary citizen, she is not only a former vice president of the World Bank, but she also served as a minister of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and once headed the Bureau of Public Procurement, under one of the most corrupt regimes in Nigeria,” CNPP thundered.
It gave other reasons to have the debate:
• The Minister of Information, Mr. Maku, also leveled allegations of monumental corruption on the former Minister;
• Ex-president, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo, under whom Mrs Ezekwesili served had serially labeled the President Goodluck Jonathan’s regime as incurably corrupt; and,
• The mud splashed on the image of the country can only be wiped-out if the government musters the political will to convoke the public debate as requested, and to do otherwise will further tarnish the image of the country and discourage direct foreign investment, which Nigeria needs.
“For us, corruption is a major contentious issue and there is no better time than this for the Jonathan administration to use the public debate to erase the epitaph of engraving its name in the hall of infamy as the most corrupt regime in the annals of the country.
“Now that the opportunity has offered itself for the government to cleanse itself or allow the good people of Nigeria to go home with the impression that the regime is absolutely corrupt; it will be regrettable if the government denies us, indeed itself this golden opportunity.”
It further noted that there is no better platform for Mrs Ezekwesili to disclose her source and substantiate her grave allegations than such a debate, which it described as “a win-win scenario” which offers the government a rare vista to clear the lingering doubt over its commitment to the war against corruption.
May God bless u my broda, with
May God bless u my broda, with people with ur kind of heart we will revolutionize this sick country
Johnathan is such a criminal.
Why is the GEJ government always scared to stand and defend itself. GEJ used this same tactic to escape the presidential debate. If you know that you are doing the right thing, wouldn't a public debate be a very good platform to use in shaming opponents if you are indeed performing good? Who does this idiot called Doyin Okupe think he is fooling saying Ezekwesili is trying to rubbish the same government that made her? The woman had a life at the World bank before Obasanjo called on her to serve Nigeria. Doyin Okupe should save us the bullshit and instead go tell his pay master Johnathan to prepare a defense team of ministers including Minister of Information, Mr Labaran Maku and CBN gov Sanusi if he will to confront Madam Oby Ezekwesili on this accusation in a public debate. Johnathan is a president that was shoeless when he was little Not because he was poor but because he was stupid. Criminal.
The Chips Are Already Down
I remember, ex-CBN Gov. Chs. Soludo once threw such futile challenge at Sanusi. Govt. has never been known to parry such challenges in the past and rightly so. I believe it would set a wrong precedence because of the distractive nature of frivolous challenges. But since there's been counter accusations dating back to the Monster, OBJ's Minister-President regime, there is legitimacy in the call (on PDP) to account for their 13yr-rule. Mrs. Ezekwesili served in the time span so I believe they all owe us some explanations. Nothing will come out of this though, the courts are cooked. The best I expect is for the CPC is bid their time and corner Dumbo in a press outing. Ezekwesilli should siddon, her antics smell like OBJ influenced. Nigerians know when and how to demand accountability. It will come with the Alarm in 2015.
Animals!
GEJ must come out for a debate or be impeached.
Even though Obasanjo wasn't the best but he did get Nigeria out of debt and even started an account for a rainy day. Look at the intention behind the birth of the EFCC even though it was 90% efficient. That's a leader who wanted development but who knew how greedy people are and don't care about the people who put them there. Johnathan and his predecessor YarAdua have reduced the EFCC to 09% efficiency and wiped out the rainy day account. The EFCC as a standalone institution, could increase the effectiveness of governance by at least 80% compared to the 5% we see now. Oby Ezekwesili is right and if GEJ doesn't agree to a national debate then the House of assembly should impeach the entire FEDERAL EXECUTIVE COUNCIL. They're idiots who arent worthy to manage a Poultry not to talk of a country. This ain't about Hausas ruling Nigeria no more. This is about having a very irresponsible Commander in Chief. Obj having a 3rd term would have made more sense than we are experiencing now.
Who will come and answer for GEJ?
I must say we all i.e Nigerians in general (since more than 50% , majority of the country voted GEJ in) are the most stupid people on earth. We voted in a president who spat openly on our faces by refusing to stand before Nigerians at the presidential debate and tell us his plans for Nigeria which would have made us able to hold him accountable to his word. Do you think such a man will come out for a national debate? I seriously think the presidency in Nigeria should be open only to Nigerians who have been part of development, have lived a minimum of 10 yrs in a developed foreign country and who really understand what development means. Everything stinks in Nigeria from the presidency down to even our football management. The government people should go and read the vanguard publication titled "We‘ll eat Nigeria like Super Fried Chickens, of JANUARY 31, 2013" see how Eboue blasted Nigeria. Nigeria is really the "AGBAYA" of Africa for real with the most stupid people on earth.
Osita buhar1, el rufai and obiageli don shit for church
Debate between rats and lizards? If we are to discuss lipsticks and pan-cakes fine. But to debate a woman who served under obj, na wahala fa! Obj was the man in charge of the oil industry-when crude oil was selling @ almost $150 per barrel. Let her tell us how much crude oil OBJ sold first-Where was her voice when the houses of civil servants were sold by elrufai in abuja-including homes of our legistlators in Apo village-is this not the woman who could not even account for the billions poured into the educational sector-who attempted to sell almost all the unity schools in Nigeria, wanting to debate frogs? I would have supported her watery views if she had not served under OBJ-he does not spare them woman-even if u have no legs or arms-he must abin na with u! Such has no moral right like Dino to talk about corruption!
Absolute nonsense
Absolute nonsense! Soon the government will be entering into debates with each and every citizen of this country on any topic the individual chose.
Of what significance would the debate be if not to disparage the regime? What the public would like to know are specific allegations of corruption against government officials with proven data not a wushu washy general allegation!
who bails the cat?
That Nigeria's economy is wasted and wasting is obvious for all to see;expecially in the lack of traction to stimulate the economy and combat unemployment. Most eloquent support given to Ezekwesili's postulation is the rebuttal by Dr. Doyin Okupe, which disengeniously forgot to state that Oby added both Excess Crude account(ECA) with the Foreign Reserve to arrive at 67billion dollars. However in confirming her 45Billion dollar reserve, though obliquely, gives veracity to Oby's claim.
As for the debate, there is no body in the current executive who would pick up the gauntlet, except to hover with a splurge. What was the cry for anti-corruption if they were busy burying the TRUTH?
Anybody who critizes the
Anybody who critizes the position of CNPP simply shows the kind of leader he would be in future. Corruption becomes the most powerful institution in Nigeria. It enjoys the Presidential support more than anything. To show his grand support of corruption, the President claims that CORRUPTION IS NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR BAD GOVERNANCE. No serious country would remain silent over this assertion. To borrow from somebody: 'it is a don't give a damn govt, led by don't give a damn politicians, for don't give a damn people.'
I DEY LAUGH ABEG
What manner of threat is that coming from CNPP? Its of no effect and consequence whatsoever. the government in power have since demonstrated that they are not answerable to or accountable to anyone. abeg abeg abeg!
Maku be reminded God never sleep
maku all liars and propaganda your fabricating to present GEJ govt as responsible, it will never work nigerians knows this is the most corrup non directional and clueless government eva happened in nigeria since independence, and be reminded God never sleep, it is with patient God shall bring you and your master GEj to the end, the same God that destroyed paroah is the same God is going to deal with all your cohorts!
EZEKWESILI KNOWS HER ONUS!
OBI EZEKWESILI IS AN INSTITUTION;HOME AND ABROAD!
WHEN SUCH AN 'INSTITUTION' TALKS;WE MUST LISTEN.
THE BARKING OF DOYIN OKUPE WITH INSULTS TO THOSE THAT DWARFED HIM IS ALWAYS HIS TRADE MARK AND FOR MAKU; THE LAST TIME THAT DAVID MARK BRANDED HIM AS AN INCOHERENT NOISE MAKER, I EXPECTED HIM TO LEARN HIS LESSONS.
OBI CAN NOT JUST COME AND TALK ANYHOW;SHE HAS HER DOSSIER AS AN INSIDER IN GOVERNMENT AND AS AN ASTUTE INTERNATIONAL WORLD BANKER.
SO LET THEM TAKE THE CHALLENGE!
El Rufai, No go there!!!
Please, in the name of God, "no go there"! In Warri, this means don't try what you can never achieve result(s) on. Any analogy that has to do with our religious figures and is likely to leave a bad thirst in the mouth for either of the mainstream religions in Nigeria will never achieve the intended purpose. I am an ardent admirer of you - El Rufai, but even I have been really disappointed in the analogy between GEJ defenders and the Lord Jesus' relationships. Religious sentiments have no logical reasoning, so do not bother to bring them into public discourse, please. Thank you.
@Oleku and Deri: Why are you morons scared of a debate ?
@Oleku and Deri
Why are you morons scared of a debate ?
re-cnpp challenge
MR OLEKU or what you call yourself ,if osita is prodigal son what will you call obi , who first made the allegation instead of thinking critically about what the former minister said, you are exhibiting the true colours of an average niger delta .
Response
The threat by the CNPP that the FG come out and face oby in a debate is done is uncalled fro. Appropriate explanations have been given, with documents already tendered by the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Public Affairs Dr. Doyin Okupe, which have diminished the claims by the ex- minister.
There is nothing to debate about now. The facts have now been laid bare by the CBN and it is time, in my opinion, for the people to enjoin Oby to come out and apologise for the unwarranted attack on the nation.
These kind of allegations by Oby are some of the unjustifiable claims giving Nigerians bad image at the international arena.
@Deri and @ oleku apologists of bullshit
What problems do you guys have with a simlpe debate? It does not matter that your perceived adversary in the person of Osita Okechukwu is the signatory of the CNPP press release. You guys have repeatedly demonstrated that the National interest is subordinate to your masters/parochial interest whenever significant issues of national revival is in discussion. An allegation was made by a personality that is revered nationally with access to important data and the goverment is simply attempting to wave it aside non challantly and you guys are condemning those supporting the challenge for a debate? You guys should have your head examined.
out of all the 3 comments
out of all the 3 comments above, none made any sense whatsoever about the real issue, instead its just series of hogwash and immature spilling of jargons from the so called commentators. no wonder naija is where we are, what has where osita or oby came from or tinubu or whatever got to do with wether money got lost or not. God save Nigeria
@Oleku,its not dat kind of
@Oleku,its not dat kind of blind politics of weda who rules dat we want now,its a save Nigeria thing so u b mindful of ur 1 sided reasoning, its not wat we need now pls

Oleku, What is your problem?
Oleku,
What is your problem? You gave mandate to a group of persons to whom you have given power and surrendered your rights. These are the people you must hold responsible and ask to account. For those in opposition, you rejected them because you did not believe they have much to offer. Certainly you cannot deny them of their freedom of expression and their rights as Nigerians to ask for accountability from those who have been given the mandate. The issue is about Nigeria and not personalities, tribes or regions. Please develop patriotic approach to national issues.
Osita the prodigal son go park one side jor...
The prodigal son has finally found his voices again. He only sneaks out from Tinubu's ass sniffing to utter rubbish and then return to his duty post. Osita the Tinubu's stooge licker rantings are of no use to naijas. He and his CNPP never came out to condemn Fashola when he sacked thousands of doctors in lagos. Osita hasn't deem it fit to ask Buhari CPC to come out openly and condemn the daily human sacrifices going up north via boko. I have never read a press release from Osita and his CNPP condemning any of the atrocities happening in ACN thug Tinubu party or mullah Buhari's CPC. Perhaps he wants to tell naijas everything is working fine with CPC and ACN governed states. GEJ should then throw the towel and return back to the creeks to drink sapele water whilst we mortgage aso rock to Buhari/Tinubu abi. I want to reiterates that Ndigbo should be mindful of Osita and his likes. Prodigal son Osita should be disregarded by every well meaning Ndigbo. Yeye Noise Maker!
ELRUFAI IS NO PRESIDENTIAL MATERIAL
The Christian Association of Nigeria on Wednesday in Abuja reacted to the allusion to Jesus Christ by a former Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Mallam Nasir el-Rufai, on a social media. The body condemned el-Rufai, saying he was only tring to whip up sentiments around religion for a selfish agenda.CAN urged religious leaders and political associates to advise him on the need to be sober and circumspect, in his comments to avoid setting the country on fire.” The organisation, which also asked President Goodluck Jonathan to check the former minister, added that from his unbridled assault on the Christian faith, el-Rufai was capable of “setting the country on fire.”
Can the tea party in the USA
Can the tea party in the USA undertake such a silly exercise-its only in Nigeria that we allow tribalism take centre stage when it involves one of our own-then let them probe the OBJ era as well
Ignore Osita and his 419 CNPP from d old ahmadu Bello region
No other person would want to fan the embers of hatred against GEJ, than Osita the CPC guber candidate from the zone were the maharajas hire their maid-servants-from in d south. Where we have oiless duds, act as if they own 9ja-who has ever had the guts to ask OBJ to give account of his stewardship as oil minister? When OBJ was in power oil was selling at between 140 to 150 dollars per barrel-we had a windfall-9ja made so much money-yet obj left us without light, roads and schools-some like his gal friend, madam abi girl Exekwesili, now yearn to back Buhari who could not even give account of his stay in d oil ministry-often when they want to start their palaba in d SS-the fulanis hire left overs-from the same south to do their dirty jobs for them-yet when we plead with them to let d SS go quietly-they beg for understanding-dem preach one 9ja then! Osita we know she is from d same tribe with u oooh! Less yr voice on d killing machine of BH-in Mali-animals
