Corpses On Ezu River: Senate Committees To Visit Anambra
Members of two Senate committees, police affairs and security and intelligence, are headed for Anambra State tomorrow to tour Ezu River in Amansea, the scene of a macabre scene of floating corpses.
Some 60 bodies have been reportedly sighted on the river, with 23 bodies recovered by police investigators.
News of the horrific finds first emerged on January 19 when members of the community around the river told reporters about the bodies.
SaharaReporters learnt that the committees’ joint trip followed appeals by Chris Ngige, the senator representing Anambra Central, an area that includes the community where the corpses were found. “We are deeply troubled that nobody knows for sure yet the identity of these corpses and how they came to be in the Ezu River,” said a member of one of the committees. He added, “That’s why we agreed that we must go and ask questions and see what we can come up with.”
On January 26, Mr. Ngige had visited the site of the gory discoveries. After interacting with members of the community, he donated 6000 sachets of drinking water and 51000 bottles. He also stated that a mechanized borehole would be constructed for the immediate community.
Since the corpses were found, the members of the community have been afraid to utilize the water for drinking or any household purposes.
On his return to Abuja, Senator Ngige briefed members of the Police Affairs Committee, of which he is a member, and proposed that the entire committee visit the site on fact-finding and sympathy missions. The committee oversees the Nigerian Police Force while the security and intelligence committee is in charge of overseeing the State Security Service (SSS).
Ndigbo who ran for their
Ndigbo who ran for their lives during the pogroms returned to find their positions had been taken over and, when the war was over the gov't didn't feel any need to re-instate them, preferring to regard them as having resigned. This was also extended to Igbo owned properties. People from other regions were quick to take over any house owned by an Igbo. Naija Gov't justified this by terming such properties 'abandoned'. This led to a feeling of an injustice as 9jas policies were seen as economically disabling the Igbos even long after the war. Many injustice were caused by naija, changing its currency so that Biafran supplies of pre-war 9ja currency were no longer honoured, at the end of d war, only £20 was given to any easterner despite whatever amount of money they had in the bank. It was applied irrespective of their banking in pre-war 9ja currency or Biafran currency. It was a deliberate policy to hold back Ndigbo, leaving them with little wealth to expand their business interests!
WHY CAN'T STATE GOVERNORS DELIVER BASIC SERVICES??
People still drinking from the river in these days and age? When you read things like this about Nigeria you just want to cry. The inability for Nigeria to provide the most basic things for her citizens is saddening to me. Now Ngige has realized that the community needs a mechanized borehole? What a genius! By the way where is the foolish Governor of the state? Nigerians must hold their representatives and state Governors accountable for delivering of services, especially the basic ones. That is why it drives me nuts when Nigerians blame Jonathan for what should be dealt with at state level. Jonathan have his own baggages, no need to tag more on. I am not going to comment on the bodies found. I need more informations.
@akpos 1 & his foot soldiers ... nice one !!!
@akpos1 & Otile ... don't run AWOL on this one. Your comments please.
Long live the republic of SS & SE ... hahahahaha !!!
EZU RIVER CORPSES
Dear Senators,
The issue of 6o corpses should not be one for the flamboyant and rhetorical oversight functions. Like every sympathetic Nigerians, your concern is of note. The main point is that the police do not need any instruction like " fish out the perpetrators or the culprits will face the law" Senator Ingige as a medical doctor should know what to do as to the cause of death. The horrendous crime is of such magnitude of that should shame every Nigerian. The community should know the sources of this debacle and I bet it and for the fear of the kingpins behind it will not cooperate with the investigating authorities. The informants on boko haram did not live to tell their stories. The Government should police this community not in the manner of search and kill and not by bribe taking policemen but by more disciplines squad. Those securities to monitor this place must be sympathetic to the bereaved community and not go there as army of occupation typical of JTF.
FIRST ACTION MUST BE-ELIMINATING THAT MASSOB ALLEGATION.
MASSOB has recently alleged that some of it's missing members are suspected to have been extra-judiciously executed by law enforcement. This allegation is heavy, therefore the first thing to do will be for the Police to account for the missing members of this organisation,if not this allegation will stick and probably cause mayhem in the future.
The corpses must not be disposed off without extracting DNA material so that they can be traced back to their families and also to seek proper closure to the case. The river flows through Anambra and Enugu state so this should not be a very complicated investigation if the Police choose to take it seriously.
ASK JTF.
It's clear that all those discovered and undiscovered cops are those peoples that was taken from Borno,Yobe and Kano with charge of linking with boko haram. If not.Can any body explain he heard an issue of accident or floods or crash of a plane? If not how these cops found themselfs there?Who take them to that area while there are police on the checkpoints?Dos that means these corpses can successfully conbeyed and domp there without the knowled of anybody?Stop wasting your time and keep this at the back of your minds that whoever has a hand or knowledge f doing so.HE/SHE MUST SEE THE RESULT befote he/she left the position that gave him chance of doing so.
na true?
My informer overheard some mallams say that was the work of AAF for shuwa.
The committee has no business
The committee has no business investigating this crime. If i may ask where are all the security agencies-the police, the army and the intelligent services. A jamboree visit does not solve crime.
Where is Otile, Akpos and the rest
Why no comments on this horrendous act
Good Time
This is a good chance for the committee to see that laws meant to protect lives and properties of our people are obeyed. Rumor has it that these are detainees in a SARS cell at Awkuzu. Committee pls unravel the truth.
Dr. Ngige please hurry and return to Anambra. Had you been the Guv, this would not have happened. The truth is that we have no Governor in Anambra. Between Abuja and London, that is where Peter Obi discharges his duties as Governor. He is in Abuja as omo Jonathan and in London to enjoy with his family leaving Anambra orphan. Peter, just finish and go. We cant wait to see the last of you.
Is it not funny that no
Is it not funny that no neighbouring community has complained that its members (male grown adults) got drowned or are missing. MASSOB alleged that Police may be culpable. This allegation appears more plausible.
our sins are the cause of our unending trouble
stories of recent events prevailing in across part of the country are quite horrible and gruesome. If we did not repent and turn over a new leaf God could descend on us with severe retribution ever known in the history of mankind. imagine 60 corpses from unknown places floating in a river. who are the killers. Man, full of evil, wikedness, mischief and devilish act. Oh god guide us and save us fromthe hands of evil men.
If ngige had not spoken
If ngige had not appeal to the senate commitees to visit the scene of the dead bodies found in anambra river they would not have gone as their responsiblity?if it is constituency allowwance that they are call for they will be there promptly but when it is about the wellbeing of the people they claim to represent they will not showup.if the police are honest enough that the bodies are not massob they should provide the massob youths they arrested.we know police forece and bokoharam are not different.
corpses on river
OBVIOUSLY, NGIGE IS A PUBLIC-SPIRITED LEADER WHO DESERVES TO RULE ANAMBRA STATE AGAIN! ANAMBRANS SHINE YOUR EYES AND EMBRACE YOUR LEADER.
Drinking from the river at this age, hmnnnn.........so sad.
How badly can the growth of a country be stagnated? At this age of the country, people still rely on the water from a river to drink, cook and bath. With all the billions of naira Nigeria is raking in on a daily basis? Not even sunk-boreholes. Oh GOD! Where art thy face? And Ngige donated 6000 sachets of drinking water and 51000 bottles? Sounds good but too superficial. That seems just a typical nigerian politician's way of solving problems.
false reporting
The motion to investigate this matter was moved on the floor of the senate on the 31st of jan. 2013 by senator andy uba and not senator ngige as you are reporting. Sahara, pls always verify your reports before publishing except if this false report was done in bad faith. i have a copy of this motion which i can send to you if you wish.
This Is The Handiwork Of Boko Haram Igbo Muslims!
Boko Haram has emerge in the Eastern parts of Nigeria. Emir Ado Bayero is responsible for these killings. His Igbo Boko Haram are responsible for these carnage. I, mallam Obi D. Shehu an Igbo muslim have warned my people that they will face the kind of problems plaguing the North for their refusal to accept the sharia laws. Due to lack of sharia laws that is the cause of armed robber, prostitution, kidnapping and many ills that do not take place in Saudi Arabia. My fellow Igbos rethink your positions concerning Sharia Law.
