Court Denies Bankole's Application To Quash N38 billion Fraud Case-NPO

Dimeji Bankole
By Nigeria Politics Online

The trial of the former Speaker of House of Representatives, Hon. Dimeji Bankole, will begin in earnest on February 7, 2012, after a court today threw out his request to have the charges of misappropriation of N38bn House funds against him quashed.

The former Speaker had asked the court to quash the charges on the grounds that the charges were signed by EFCC prosecuting lawyer, Festus Keyamo, whom he argued was biased because Keyamo had written several petitions against him previous.  Bankole also argued that Keyamo did not have a fiat from the Attorney General of the Federation, since at the time the charges were made against him, there was nobody serving as AGF.

But Judge Donatus Okoruwa denied the application and ruled that Mr. Bankole has a case to answer before the court.  The judge held that the EFCC has the powers to engage the services of any legal practitioner it so chooses to try its cases and that there could be no issue with Mr. Keyamo signing the charges.

Mr. Okoruwa also said that bias or otherwise of a lawyer does not in any way affect the evidence or lack of it against an accused person.

Lastly, he affirmed that the office of the AGF is an institution and is not limited solely to the person occupying it. As a result, the absence of an AGF therefore does not, therefore, in any way affect the capacity of the office to issue a fiat to the EFCC to prosecute.

He adjourned the case till February 7 and 8 for commencement of trial.

festy

The need to discharge and acquit Hon.Ola-Demiji Bankole

I am dumfounded to seeing the Efcc level an acussation against Bankole, i want to tell Nigerians that this allegation is a malicious fabrication, is a mere fallacy. Plz Efcc for betterment of your existence dismiss the allegation file against my Only Bankole, nobody in Nigeria can be like bankole, he a good man, he has contributed immensly to the growth of Nigeria legislature. Evendo the allegation is true, Bankole merited it. BANKOLE IS NOT A THIEF. If realy Efcc is strong let them sue former heads of states for misappropriaton of funds.
IT MAY INTEREST you to know that Bankole one of the founding Fathers of Efcc.
Release Bankole Efcc before it gets too late
from OBI SAMUEL OBI.
Human right activist and a politi...

trouble looms

THE REMOVAL OF THE FUEL SUBSIDY IS GENERATING A LOT OF TENSION, I'M NOT SURPRISED THAT MOST NIGERIANS DO NOT ACCEPT THIS PART OF MR PRESIDENT'S TRANSFORMATION AGENDA. IT'S ASTONISHING TO THINK THAT OUR OFFICE HOLDERS HAVE STOLEN SO DEEP INTO OUR COLLECTIVE POCKETS AND CONSCIENCES AND YET HAVE THE FIAT TO WANT TO MAKE US PAY EVEN MORE DEARLY. WHAT A COUNTRY'S JUDICIAL SYSTEM CAN ALLOW DUDES LIKE BA...NKOLE TO WALK THE STREETS FREE AND YET HAVE THE EFFRONTERY AND DISREGARD TO EMBARRASS OUR JUDICIAL SYSTEM AS TO ASK THE COURT TO THROW AWAY THE CHARGES OF EMBEZZLEMENT AGAINST A SOVEREIGN NATION BE DROPPED. MR PRESIDENT PLEASE BE AWARE THAT THIS BANKOLE'S CASE IS A BIG TEST OF YOUR ADMINISTRATION'S RESOLVE AND BALLS IN OUR CONTINUOUS AND MOST URGENT TRANSFORMATION.
SHOW GOOD WILL BY EMPOWERING OUR JUDICIARY TO SANITIZE OUR POLITY WITHOUT FEAR OR FAVOUR. MAKE HISTORY I EXTOL YOU BRO.

They accused you of stealing, you said Keyamo was biased

Its unfortunate if the little hope we have for tomorrow are just fading away gradually in our lifetime. Imagine this Bankole who suppose to know better but choose to be a thief.
He did not even have good defence, are you a dollard? They accused you of stealing you said the prosecutor was biased against you, stupid talk. You did not learn anything from Sandhurst. You need to learn in nigeria jail.

This Is A Lesson For Every Young Person

This issue of Bankole or not should be a great lesson for us the young generation of Nigerians. We should always be careful. I watched Festus Keyamu the other day talking while the guy was at the court. You need not be told that the guy is a paid agent. His relationship with Aondoaka has reflected the kind of person he is. He is another JOB GUY. Cheers.

Nowhere to run

Rt Hon Bankole please face the music for there is nowhere to run.

Good Judgement...

Gud judgement here. Bankole must face the full wrath of d law and head for jail

160 yrs for Bank-ole

what does this Bank-ole want?for the prosecuting lawyer Mr, Keyamo to be singing his praises? The current exchange rate is $1.00 to N160.00.and they said the idiot stole $1Billion, Holy Moses!!! the arithimatic is very simple. They should give him 160 years in jail.If he dies before the end of his jail term?the remaining terms should transfer to his next of kin. jude L/A USA.

AS BANKOLE DELAYS AND DENIES...JUSTICE ELUDES NIGERIANS.

Bankole clearly does not spend time countering the numerous charges of corruption levelled against him, rather his strategy is to make sure his trial does not hold.He belives that anything is possible in Nigeria, therefore mother luck might just smile on him,he belives that he knows too much for other equally corrupt collegues to betray him,he has information to blackmail them with, they will eventually come to thier senses, all he has to do is keep playing with time and see how this affair plays out.
Dimeji Bankole should not get just a few years in jail,he has to do long term, and his stolen assets recovered by the state, the money laundering case must be stepped up too.A test case for this administration.

Demiji and EFCC coup

Nigerian, never be deceived by the efcc and Demiji tom's and jerry's kangaroo financial misappropriation saga. If GEJ administration really want true justice on this matter, why did he removed the iron lady. GEJ replaced the former efcc chief because of Demiji and other untouchables that is being prosecuted. If GEJ is real on fighting corruption, he should first prosecute the likes of OBJ,Atiku, Anenih, Odili, Mba, and hundred's of thousand of public thieves he had surrounded him. Nigerian's both home and in diaspora are watching keenly.

What about those recovered

What about those recovered stolen money, the government has never said to us the actual amount they recovered and what they intended to us it for.
Stupid country with bunch of useless leaders, all of them will never go free.

Dimeji is still a role model

Dimeji is still a role model to me and I believe the govt is trying to set him up because he refused being used their way.

Why only Bankole ?

It seems amazing than GEJ's EFCC dogs cannot bark at any other looters who stolen a billions of nairas rather always Bankole Bankole, dont they have any deal with the former president Olusegun Obasanjo and his alikes? I guessed all these stupids are being done to Bonkole because of his religeopolitical differences. Finally my appeal to our lame president "GEJ" is to back up and know that we(nigerians) are aware of all these stupids and hopeless job he does.

corruption

Its Naivety to the highest order for any corruption charges brought by and prosecuted by this government to be successfully letigated by any institution, constituted by this administration: The truth is these guys, currently occupying the nation politic landscape remain same side of same coins.

Some Sense

it makes some sense that the court has affirmed that Bankole has a case to answer. If he feels he had no case to answer, he would have even facilitated the prosecution so as to clear his name.
I am sorry for the calibre of animals who climb up to the rather of leadership in Nigeria.

A real shame

This same guy was on hardtalk in 2008 talking about how he and the government were fighting corruption. Watch here;
http://news.bbc.co.uk/player/nol/newsid_7390000/newsid_7396000/7396030.s...

As usual he will get 2 years, a slap on the wrist for theft and fraud which is no different from treason. These guys are animals. They have killed and robbed Nigerians of the simple dignities of life. I hope justice finds him one way or the other because the NIgerian government are incapable of that.
