EFCC Fails in Bid to Arrest Two Rivers State Commissioners For “Corruption”
Rivers State officials are crying foul over the attempted arrest of two of its commissioners today, by the Economic and Financial Commission (EFCC).
The attempted seizure of the two men—the Commissioner for Finance, George Feyii, and the Commissioner for Local Government Affairs, Tammy Danagogo—is alleged to be at the instance of the First Lady, Mrs. Patience Jonathan, who recently had a public falling out with State governor Rotimi Amaechi at an event in the state.
The two commissioners and three local government chairmen have reportedly gone underground in the state. But the EFCC operatives arrested three persons namely: Jessy Ogulor, Treasurer of Port Harcourt local government, Da-Wariboko, head of personell, Ikwerre local government area and Hyacinth Nwosirim, cashier Obio/Akpor local government area.
Sources in Rivers state told Saharareporters that the recent public spat between Governor Amaechi and Mrs. Jonathan arose because Amaechi has so far refused to declare his support for Jonathan’s presidential bid. The EFCC would likely pay similar visits to Gombe, Kwara, Zamfara and Delta states, a source in the Abuja offices of the agency told Saharareporters. The reason for the raid is attributed to the refusal of governors in those states to endorse Jonathan’s presidential bid.
Rivers State officials have described today’s siege on the state capital as a cynical display of “make-up” loyalty to the president and his wife, especially in view of yesterday’s Saharareporters story which revealed that Mrs. Farida Waziri is heaping the blame for the collapse of the anti-corruption effort in the country on the excessive interference of the President Goodluck Jonathan, his household, and members of his kitchen cabinet.
Interestingly, Rivers was the state Waziri as EFCC chair made her first poor showing when she similarly went in there to arrest Nyeson Wike, the Chief Of Staff to Governor Amaechi. Mismanaged handling and underhanded deals regarding the investigation and prosecution of Wike's case have emboldened more serious acts of corruption in the state. Waziri, it is now known, is not really trying to catch any thieves in Rivers. Hers is a survival game around the nation.
A source told Saharareporters that yesterday’s report has greatly upset the EFCC boss, who has faced mounting opposition from many quarters and a serious clamor for her removal. Mrs. Waziri has managed to survive her removal in the last few months, and has gone to a great extent to play to different interest groups by telling different stories about her "predicament." It is a card she has played well so far.
She has equally gone after her former Director of Operation, Tunde Ogunsakin, a police officer who has been touted as her replacement. Last week, the agency announced that it planned to charge Mr. Ogunsakin with examination malpractices. The EFCC said the charge derives from a cheating incident that led to Mr. Ogunsakin´s removal from the agency last year. However, despite the fanfare over the case at the University of Abuja at that time, the EFCC did not charge Mr. Ogunsakin until last week when it began a new media blitz.
Although Mrs. Waziri may have enjoyed a boost with the operations in Rivers State today, it is unclear how long she will survive as the head of the EFCC. Her reported friendship with former military dictator, Ibrahim Babangida, is said to be giving Mr. Jonathan a headache.
the truth is that sentiments
the truth is that sentiments aside, it is iniquitous for anybody to use state apparatus to fight at the expense of good governance. it is embarrassing to see this unfolding drama that is going on between EFCC and Rivers State government. people in government must know that the citizenry are bigger than them. funny enough, they have shifted focus from the people to themselves, that is if they ever had the people in mind. this can be seen in the way and manner they EFCC and Rivers State government are accusing each other and and fighting cold wars. a society that mean well for the people will not allow issue like this to become a monumental distraction. its quite unfortunate that the way and manner EFCC CONDUCTS ITSELF make one wonder if they are if they are genuinely fighting corruption or they are protecting an interest somewhere. rivers state government on its own must know that we have come a long way yet they appear to have lost the confidence of the people because those in this administration have so outrageously enriched themselves that the level of impoverishment among the state dwellers is so allarming. the people live their live based upon extreme effort as though there is no government in place. nobody cares. painful! i understand that Rotimi Amaechi means well but his challenge is the presense of the likes of Nyesom wike, his chief of staff who has so sabotaged the Amaechi led government that he has become the god of Rivers state government house. Governor should know that if his government must see her dreams come to fruition, he must be bold to do away with Nyesom Wike before that guy puts him in trouble.... the governor should stop running a compensational government and focus on transforming the state. the governor should involve civil society.... God bless Rivers State
Nigeria cannot continue like this

EFCC and Rivers Officials
Siome house boys and boys quarter occupants have turned millioneers overnight! Haba, politics pay, it pay much much for Rivers!
Amachi is a bad sell-leave the 1st family out
Amaechi who could not even pay his hotel bills in far away Ghana, is now awarding contracts as if there is no tomorrow in his dictionary. His cousin had the same problem with Efcc last year. Money running intol billions of Naira, was siphoned from government coffers into his personal account, on the orders of Amaechi. The case is still in court. The problem with governors from the South South, is that the moment they are smuggled into government house, they start behaving as if they share the same DNA with Abacha and IBB.Its stealing unlimited. His only legacy lies in the house he wants demolished at the water fronts-the annoying thing about Amaechi, is that, he now wants to levy the very people whose homes he wants to destroy to finance education. Why should Rivers people be tasked? Why with all the oil flowing around them? Are indigenes the beneficiaries of his contract policies.Nay!
ODILI HOUSE BOY
ARE U SURE AMAECHI HAD A PASS DEGREE IN ENGLISH, LITTLE WONDER HE IS MAKING A LOT OF BLUNDER EVEN AS HIS INTENTIONS APPEAR GENUINE..DON'T BE DECEIVED HE HAS A WAY OF MAKING THE AUDIENCE I FEEL HE IS NOT CORRUPT.
are u sure he had a pass
are u sure he had a pass degree. now i see the reason he is daft/.
We require a serious professional for EFCC now!!
If Mr Jonathan is serious about fighting corruption in Nigeria he would have since removed Mama Waziri. She was in retirement for over four years; was busy buying cologne in the UK and Italy and selling to civil servants at Abuja when Umaru/Aoandoaaka wanted Ribadu out of EFCC and went looking for a pliant replacement.
Now, the writer wants another policeman, Tunde Ogunsakin! Dear Nigerians, I want to tell you that fighting fraud and corruption in the polity is much more than what they teach in police academies anywhere in the world, not in the United States, United Kingdom and certainly not in Nigeria. My friend, Nuhu, will tell you that what he has learnt about fighting fraud and corruption for the two years he was on forced 'sabbatical' in the United Kingdom and later in the United States was much more than what he knew in his over two decades in the Nigeria Police.
Mama Waziri is spent, retired and tired former Police AIG. She should be allowed to go home with the booty already amassed by her and her proxies. We require a serious, hardworking and active professional, to steer EFCC. The person does not have to be well-known to the public. Of course, the agencies of government would have done their usual due diligence; known the person's antecedents and found him or her up to the task. Investigating corruption is not a media event. It is done quietly, behind closed doors, and only the result can be made public.
That reminds me of when Mr. Jega was appointed to head INEC. Mr. Jonathan was quoted to have said in South Africa that he never met Mr. Jega and never knew him! That it was after his appointment that he read about him and realized he was independent-minded and had radical bent!!!! The bloggers went to work. They wondered how a President will make such an appointment without having the intelligence agencies and men of the SSS do thorough due diligence and pass their report to him. According to Mr. Jonathan, Mr. Jega was well-recommended by 'people' he sought their views!!
Wonders they say will never stop happening in Nigeria! In a conference I attended of people from various nationalities in the US, Mr. Jonathan's professed ignorance about Mr. Jega prior to his appointment was raised. The crux of the questions posed by the participants was whether that was the way Nigerian government runs its affairs, very primitive!!
Mama Waziri has done her bit and in my scorecard she made 10%. She should be allowed to go home and enjoy her grandchildren, moreso now that her husband has become a Senator and joined the ranks of the 1% that has cornered 80% of our annual federal budgetary appropriation.
blame odili
look at what odili has done to rivers state. making his glorified house boy and revenue collector, with a pass degree in english, speaker and now governor of our dear state. no wonder the boy behaves the way he does.
Another Baba-Mero joke in PHC? Amaechi, Believers dont lie
This is the most (ALAWADAIC) or (BABA-SALAIC) story of the year. That Efcc went after Amaechi because of the fall-out between him and the 1st lady? Haba Nigeria? What type of brains do we have instilled or planted in us. Is this the first time that, Amaechi is being courted by EFCC? Was Amaechi not having a case with Efcc in court before this latest raid? Is this what politics in Nigeria has come to? Blackmail? Was it the 1st lady that sent efcc officials after the commissioner of finance in Bayelsa state? Amaechi is a thief. Let him name the beneficiaries of the contracts he awarded for the construction of the model schools in PHC. WHO ARE THEY? Was it Lord Lugard, Abiola or Obama that he awarded the contracts to. Oya tell us-but leave madam out of this wahala biko.I have said it time without number that, until governors in the south south, re-focus their attention to developing people oriented schemes, by indigenizing their thoughts, they will forever remain slaves to the wobbly, wobbly ideas of the tripod period.
GEJ dont u have another wife?
GEJ pls dont u have another wife to give us as first lady? some women make u great while some will sink u. am not sure but i think you should know better
SENTIMENTS ASIDE, PLEASE.
Take it or leave it GEJ is too unserious for the country, and we must vote him out, if only we don't want the total collapse of the country. Look at the Squandering of our Foreign Reserves, Excess Crude account and the unreasonable international debt he put the country in, all in just a 110 days. Emergine what will happen if he will rule for four years?
Am not saying it should be a Northerner, no, but let it be a competent person, a person with a plan, someone who is ready for the work. This man, in addition to having no plan, he is not even ready for the top job. This is somebody whose everything is done by others. Someone who can not even come out and say - iam contesting.- Please lets keep sentiment aside and be fair to the over 150m Nigerians. It is more than North or south, talk less of a single individual pleaseeeee.
A Thief Cannot Punish A Fellow Thief.
Activities of Farida Waziri in the EFCC amuses me and any right thinking Nigerian. Can a thief punish a fellow thief? It's impossible! Farida cannot fight corruption when she has equally drunk the water of corruption with those she is trying to prosecute. She is a joker and a pretender hiding behind a finger when her whole body is being seen by everybody passing by.
Farida Waziri has not changed her tactics in the way she does her job. It has always been "rattle them & make some noise, then release after money has exchanged hands" method. Who is fooling who? How many thieves in high places has Farida Waziri sent to prison apart from Bode George that fell out with OBJ an equally chief thief.
Farida Waziri cannot cover our face with her sham and ignoble ways she's administering EFCC. EFCC under her is in comatose. She is doing all this to make noise again that she's still the EFCC head.
One day, all of them will account for their crimes. More than 95% of those in government (past & present) at diffirent level and capacity are thieves and enemies (including Farida) of Nigerians. They should all be lined up and shot. They are misfits and destroyers of our commonwealth.
FARIDA MUST BE FIRED NOW
This hugely corrupt woman called Farida is looking for heavy bribes before she is fired. Ameachi has vowed not to share Rivers' money with anyone and I support him entirely. GEJ must fire this witch of a woman called Farida now, or lose credibility ground.
Ameachi and his kingpins are all criminals
Ameachi and his kingpins are all criminals. they have planed to steal the state funds by claiming that they are undergoing some construction in the state. liers, arrest them. we pray that he (Ameachi) does not be the flagbearer of PDP and does not contest the upcoming election. check the state, uncompleted project all over. he should go PLEASE DON'T MIND THOSE THAT ARE SUPPORTING HIM
I STRONGLY DISAGREE WITH THE
I STRONGLY DISAGREE WITH THE FACT THAT THE ARREST WAS AT THE INSTANCE OF MRS JONATHAN. THE EFCC HAS BEEN ON THE HEELS OF AMAECHI BEFORE NOW WHICH WE ALL KNOW.
MEANWHILE, THOSE STATES NAMED AS THE NEXT PORT OF CALL FOR FARIDA IS A WAY OF DRUMMING UP SUPPORT FOR THOSE STINKING THIEVES. I BEG SR AND OTHER COMMENTATORS TO LEAVE DELTA STATE OUT OF THIS. UDUAGHAN SHOULD BE THE FIRST FOR SUCH VISITS.
UDUAGHAN RECENT PUBLICATION FOR HIS ACHIEVEMENTS IN 3 YEARS INCLUDES PEACE, AIRPORT PROJECT (5 KILOMETER ROAD WITH ADDITIONAL COATINGS AND A SMALL TERMINAL BUILDING WORTH OVER N20B?), UNIVERSITY HOSPITAL OF HOW MANY BLOCKS?
MEANWHILE, DELTA STATE HAS RECEIVED SO MUCH IN 3 YEARS. THE ROUGES GOVERNOR BLUNTLY REFUSES TO RELEASE LOCAL GOVERNMENT ALLOCATION TO THE CHAIRMEN.
LET IT BE THAT MRS JONATHAN WILL SPONSOR UDUAGHAN'S TRAVAILS, THAT WILL MAKE US HAPPY IN THE STATE. WETHER UDUAGHAN SUPPORT GEJ OR NOT, PDP DELEGATES WILL ALL VOTE FOR HIM AT THE PRIMARIES.
u live in a different phc
hw can u say that. are u so naive that u do not even know that His Excellency Rt. Hon C.R Amaechi has received more allocation from the Federal Govt, than the Sir Dr. Peter Odili administration did. And nothing to show for it. they are both corrupt,a case of two devils, Sir Dr. Peter Odili being a lesser devil.
ELIMINATE FARIDA WAZIRI NOW!
IT IS LONG OVERDUE OF THE REMOVAL OF OUR CORRUPT EFCC CHAIRLADY- FARIDA WAZIRI. THE HEAPS OF CORRUPT ALLEGATIONS ON HER SHOULD HAVE MADE HER TO RESIGN. BUT SINCE SHE IS STILL CONTINUING IN HER DOUBLE GAME, LET US END THIS NOW. DEAR MR. PRESIDENT JONATHAN ACT NOW.
Farida Waziri
This Farida Waziri is an expired product; she should be discarded/disposed or thrown away. I wonder why our President Jonathan is handicaped to deal with this woman. Fire her urgently!

Waziri and Exam Malpractices
Saharareporters said, "She has equally gone after her former Director of Operation, Tunde Ogunsakin, a police officer.... Last week, the agency announced that it planned to charge Mr. Ogunsakin with examination malpractices."...Interesting!
Wonders shall never end. Pls when has EFCC turned into examination bodies, leaving financial crimes to fight for cheating and malpractices in examination halls? At the worst, this is the job of ICPC, not efcc.
FARIDA
Once a WHORE, always a WHORE
Abeg mak una leave joe boy alone
Why are we so fond of apportioning blames rather than supporting our leader with prayer and love?how does what is happening in river state coonected to gej?this is an internal affair,Ebele has alots of international matters to worry his head abt rather than wat were we are pushing him,our economy is in shamble and need urgent attension,no good skools,no good hospitals,no god road netwk, let alone water and job opportunity.these are wat the man is so much worried abt.pls my ppl lets giv him tim and our sopport,we won,t get there over nit,but when we are joined 2gether in faith we will surely get there soon.God bless Nigeria
