ExxonMobil Records Third Spill In Three Months At Qua Iboe Field

By SaharaReporters, New York

ExxonMobil  in Nigeria has recorded another oil spill at its Qua Iboe oil field, this one described by community members as the worst since the firm commenced operations over 40 years ago.

SaharaReporters sources at the oil terminal said that the spill occurred at the Idoho oil platform, the oldest oil facility within the oil field, known to have dilapidated pipelines and equipment.

An official of the National Oil Spills Detection and Response Agency (NOSDRA) told SaharaReporters by telephone that the oil firm had admitted the discharge of crude oil into the Atlantic from its operations.

“We have a report from Mobil that they had a spill at their field and we have dispatched our officers to the spill location to access the impact,” the official said.  “They are estimating that the spilled volume is between 50 and 100 barrels but that is not a reliable estimate as the investigation would determine the quantity of oil discharged into the environment.”

It would be recalled that twice last August on the 13th and 23rd, two separate spills occurred within the Qua Iboe oil fields operated by Mobil.

A statement on the latest incident signed by Mr Paul Arinze, General Manager, Public and Government Affairs in Mobil, said an investigation was underway.

“Mobil Producing Nigeria Unlimited (MPN), operator of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC/MPN) Joint Venture, confirms that on November 9 an oil release occurred offshore Akwa Ibom State.

The lawless oil companies should be the common object of anger not attacking our sovereignty. This latest spill will likely go the same way of previous ones, feeble attempt to clean up and sharing of “compensation” to the Ibeno communities like say nothing happen!
This is an organized crime, rape and stealing of our heritage by foreign invaders called oil companies and please consider these facts when you comment:
The pipeline is only 2yrs old, completed December 2010 by Saipem at over $200million and now it is broken and spilling oil. Same Saipem is Exxonmobil offshore, no penalty and will likely charge Nigeria to fix the mess.
In Nigeria it is double jeopardy but in Angola, Brazil, Ecuador and USA, this was not and cannot be the story, big penalties are paid and criminal convictions are a given. Here, our government allows and actively support these foreign invaders to disrespect us, rape and destroy the commonwealth.

It is rather disappointing that even at time of great of collective misfortune, all that you hear is still comments about separation, South, North, SS and all.
How will the secession or separation of SS clean the oil spill and restore the vegetation, fish and prawn and source of sustenance of the already impoverished people of Koluama and Ikebiri overtaken by the Chevron gas explosion/pollution and the Ibeno communities that have been subjected to serial pollution of the waters and land by ExxoMobil.

Get educated.....The truth about 1914

For the baby commentators on this site, I wish to educate you if only you will be receptive of the stack facts.

That, ".... There is a clause in the amalgamation of 1914, which says that after 100 years of existence, any part of Nigeria may decide to go. Therefore, because of the oil in the South-South, the Niger-Delta people believe they can go on their own. And all the arrangements they are making is to make sure that by 2014, they will write a memorandum to the United Nations saying they want to become a separate nation from what is today known as Nigeria and they will draw a map and compose their national anthem. It’s just like what happened in Sudan."

Long live the peoples republic of the SS & SE.

Until somebody is held

Until somebody is held accountable, the spillage will continue. Exxonmobil knows that they can get away with spillage in Nigeria easily, that's why they don't take precautionary measures.

Is Corporate Social

Is Corporate Social Responsibility possible In Nigeria regardless of the ubiquitous greed ????? Na Wa For Una O after all the CR win win win no be so?.

KEEPING NIGERIA ONE

Keeping Nigeria one is our slogan but oil spill, contamination , poverty is at the shoulder of the oil producing states. No oil company in Nigeria will take serious what we see today as Nigeria except the people whose source of livelihood are directly affected are given the sole control of the resources.
This time, it is not vandalization of pipeline by oil thieves but operational deficiency. As far as the money is continuously shared to people whose comfort and well being is their only concern as leaders, the pollution has no direct bearings with their own affairs. One Nigeria!!!!
Iam waiting for my fellow countrymen/women to come and "occupy" ExxonMobil and redeem the Akwa Ibom people from their plague.

How long will SS &SE look on as the continent destroys its land

How long will SS&SE look on as the continent destroys its land? .... The Nigerian continent has plundered the land of the South South countries for too long. The SS & SE nations have fed the entire continent Nigeria since amalgamation by the self centered and brutish British, leaving our environment polluted with oil and the ecology totally devastated.

Nowhere else on the planet do we have such a metaphorical rape on a people as we have had in the Niger Delta. The same peoples who the rest of the Continent say should not be recognized in the constitution. Stupid! Isn't it?

It is only a simpleton, a very big one indeed, who will expect the brave and courageous SS & SE peoples to sut down nd look. We are not women. We will react along one and only one line without any recourse to any country in the continent....secession.

Long live the republic of the South south & South East
