Four Persons Injured In MRS Barge Explosion At Apapa Port In Lagos

NEMA officials at the scene of explosion
By SaharaReporters, New York

Four persons were injured in today’s explosion of a Petroleum Motor Spirit barge belonging to MRS petroleum company, the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), has said.

A spokesperson confirmed this in a short text message to SaharaReporters.  He also stated that the fire was put out by emergency services in the area.
The huge explosion, which was followed by fire balls, had residents and workers in the area in a panic.

The explosion happened at a facility jointly owned by billionaire Aliko Dangote and his brother Sayyau Dantata.  It comes on the heels of newly-unveiled borrowing of $1.5 billion by the badly mismanaged Nigeria National Petroleum Company and a fresh release of N161 billion to oil importers by the Minister of Finance.

A combined team of oil importers stole and shared over $6.5 billion in oil subsidy funds last year.

The Nigeria government and its anti-corruption police, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, claim to be working hard to put an end to the daylight robbery, but the effort so far lacks substance.

Pathetic commentary

It is quite sad to read the commentary on most stories here. For one to state he is happy about an explosion is a wicked and callous statement. For your information the losses are most likely covered by insurance so what is your happiness about? The injuries or the loss of employment by that terminal being inactive? People like yourself are no better than those you criticize, you are simply less successful and bitter. References to south south and Boko haram show a lack of intelligence and shallowness you don't need to comment about everything it only reveals the size and quality of your brain.

Nigerian companies are not safety concious. We need to place our priorities right. Safety standards should be maintained and professional should be employed to mann key sectors. If the inferno is not politically motivated, then I think it could be prevented,or even controlled with out escalating further.I want to believe the vessel had crew men who are trained in fire fighting and I want to believe the vessel had fire detectors which most modern vessels should have. This also would motivate ship owners to buy new vessels. Most of our indigineous ship owners use outdated ships, where most of these equipments don't function any longer. That is why the foreign companies would still dominate. A̶̲̥̅ new ship is cost effectiv than four outdated ships. This is A̶̲̥̅ very sensitive sector that the Govt is neglecting. We pray the worse doesn't happen.

Nigerians

I cannot believe that someone is placing a comment here that he is happy an accident took place and families of fellow Brothers and Sisters (Nigerians) in panic....shameful..simply ignorant of economic and supplies implication to the nation and the masses as a whole.

I doubt if you have the interest of this country at heart.
Stop saying what you don't know.
I don't even see how this will affect his stealing even if what you said is true.

d SS will continue with their mumu-ish acts until oil go finish

That is what the SS gets for their oil resources-daily insults fro the agents of the tripod! Yet when they are asked to secede, u see them looking at boko haram--as if their troubles was created for them by buhari-nigeria does not want their person-but needs their oil for survival...

Hmmm

Like i have always said, KEEP THOSE MALLAMS UNDER TIGHT AND RIGID SURVEILLANCE. These explosions and fires are becoming one too many.

Health and Safety not a serious matter in Naija

Naija has zero health and safety police to ensure safe working and storage practise of these facilities. I am only happy that there is no death case of personnel but am happy that it happened to one of the daylight thief facility.
