Gunmen Abduct Exxon Mobil Worker, Injure One
Gunmen boarded an Exxon Mobil oil rig offshore Nigeria on Friday, attacking and wounding one worker on board and abducting another, the local unit of the U.S. oil major, Exxon Mobil said.
Mobil Producing Nigeria (MPN), operator of the joint venture with the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, confirms that in the early hours of Friday, some armed men attacked a supply vessel near one of our platforms, offshore Akwa Ibom State, Gloria Essien Dannar MPN spokesperson said.
One person on the vessel was injured, and another "was taken away to an unknown destination", the spokesperson said. "The incident has been reported to security and relevant government agencies."
Mobil operates the 960,000 barrels per day crude export terminal off Ibeno shoreline in Akwa Ibom.
