Insecurity: INEC Again Postpones Adamawa Governorship Election

By SaharaReporters, New York

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has once again shifted the date for the governorship election in Adamawa State.

The electoral body said in a statement released in Abuja today that it would not conduct any election in an atmosphere of insecurity, emergency rule or curfew.

It said the election would now hold on February 4, 2012.

The electoral commission had earlier moved the date of the election from Saturday, January 14 to January 18, 2012.

In addition, INEC’s statement also disclosed a postponement of an election for the House of Representatives in the Soba Federal Constituency of Kaduna State. That election will now also hold on February 4.

Below is the text of INEC’s statement:

INEC shifts Adamawa, Soba Constituency polls

Due to the prevailing situations in Adamawa and Kaduna States, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has, by the powers conferred on it in Section 26 (i) of the Electoral Act 2010, as amended, postponed the scheduled elections in the two states.

These elections are the gubernatorial election in Adamawa State and the bye-election into Soba Federal Constituency of Kaduna State. The two elections will now hold on 4th February, 2012.

The decision to postpone these elections was arrived at after due consultations with relevant stakeholders.

The Commission does not wish to hold any election under an atmosphere of insecurity, emergency or curfew. Therefore it calls on all stakeholders to conduct themselves in a manner that will ensure peaceful and violence-free atmosphere for the elections.

INEC hereby restates its determination to conduct, free, fair and credible elections in these two states and urges all and sundry to join hands with it in achieving this noble cause.

The Commission also calls on security agencies to ensure a conducive environment for the smooth conduct of these elections.

Adamawa gov election

I am suggesting a new set of security and INEC officials to back and support the resident ones in the state, if the coming election is expected to be free and fair.

amin

amin i suport voting pdp out of power in adamawa for they right change. People of adamawa vote pdp out of pawer for your good

INEC PLAY YOUR ROLE JUSTLY OR GOD WILL STRIKE YOU. NYAKO MUST GO

We pray for change in Adamawa. Postponding it even to next year will never shake us and change our mind. We are tired of this monopolistic and wicket leadership. Nyako must go period no matter how long. The voice of the majority says so

A WARNING LONG TIME......

A Pastor had warned the nation during the late 70s' that it would take about 2-million innocent souls to FREE Nigeria. Quoting him, " Let us accept the price now, because if we don't the it would keep increasing". I do not know if the same Pastor is still alive today. But my dear Nigerians the evidence of such mounting price is all before us today. Everyone of us is afraid, or we simply lack appropriate "starter kits"?. However, the word of GOD is clear, "Greater Love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends" John 15:13.

"The Commission does not wish

"The Commission does not wish to hold any election under an atmosphere of insecurity, emergency or curfew." Really? But it was ok to conduct gubernatorial elections in some Northern States in April when such states (e.g Kaduna, Bauchi, Borno, Yobe) had dusk to dawn curfew in place thereby fostering an atmosphere where the ruling party could easily rig itself back into power. Now that surely PDP cant win, it is not ok to conduct the election. Very Independent electoral commission indeed!

Lesson For Nigeria Politicians

Senior ministers including William Hague have lost their right to a full-time ministerial car and driver, it emerged yesterday.

In a written statement, the Department of Transport said it had cut the bill for ministerial cars from £6.7m to £3.8m. The cuts have left seven government departments including the Foreign Office, the Department of Health, the Ministry of Defence and the Department for Climate Change with no official car. In total, the number of ministers with an allocated car and driver has fallen from 78 to 13.

Prime Minister David Cameron pledged to crack down on ministerial car costs as part of the Government's efforts to tackle the deficit.

Ministers without their own car now have access to a car pool rather than a dedicated vehicles and drivers. They can use the service for official business and travelling from home to the office "within reasonable distance of London".

All government members are encouraged to use public transport where possible.

great pdp

the largest party in Africa,

How Long!!

What if Governor Nyako continue to allow the thugs to disturb the peace of the state, will he then continue to remain as the governor as he has employ thugs to man the house of assembly and no body challenged him on that?

Jega is a PDP man. Citizens don't trust him and the rotten INEC

This is Jagajaga and his pro-regime antics again. The election riggers at INEC and their political masters in Abuja know very well that most Nigerians are now very angry with the wicked PDP and their allies in Adamawa (the same PDP rogues are in power there) so, they want tempers to cool before they set about inflicting yet another 'sea-slide" PDP "win" in the forthcoming governorship election there. Jega has shown that he lacks integrity and cannot be trusted as an impartial arbiter. Jega,s INEC will soon rig the adamawa governorship polls for the PDP and turn around to deny the opposition and the courts access to evidence of their rigging for the PDP. What a bunch of 419 criminals, the PDP crooks and their friends at INEC!

sugestion

why would'nt nigerian gov't impliment a law that everyone that is on the throne should drop down before contesting. Because bein in the position will make them to use power on people in other to rule back and is unfare.

This delay may be delay

This delay may be delay tactics to hold on to power. The incumbent governor does not want to hand over to Boko Haram who owns the state of Adamawa. You see, nobody should blame gallant Boko Haram Muslims when they use force to take back what belongs to them. Is the governor born-to-rule or is he now going to tell the jamaa that his power comes from Allah?

What happens in the meantime?

Shouldn't the governor be handing to the speaker of atate house of assembly since his term has expired? Or are we just going to have another entry in the long list of illegalities? What a shame.
