Jonathan's Facebook "Friends" Critical Of His Unkept Pledges
Two separate “Facebook” friends of President Goodluck Jonathan have disputed claims by Mr. Jonathan that his office promptly contacted them to discuss their ideas for solving some of Nigeria’s intractable problems.
One set of Nigerian students based in Finland said they were shocked to learn that Mr. Jonathan prominently used their names in his book based on exchanges on the president’s fan page. In the book, the president acclaimed the students, Dipo Daramola, Oladeji Ikuesan and Adewale Adeyemo for proposing ways of combating crime in Nigeria.
The Finland-based students Dipo Daramola, Oladeji Ikuesan and Adewale Adeyemo stated that there was no contact whatsoever from Mr. Jonathan’s office to further discuss their proposal on how to address the nation’s kidnap crisis.
On July 21, 2010 Mr. Daramola and his friends, who are studying business information technology in Finland, had written on Mr. Jonathan's facebook page that they were working on a project called the GPS gate, GPS trace, and Google Maps on a mobile device to trace the location of mobile devices. They suggested that their research could enhance security in Nigeria and curtail crimes by deploying satellite positioning. The three students told Mr. Jonathan that they did not want to be part of the brain drain from Nigeria, but wished to return to serve in Nigeria provided his government was “ready to support our visions and goals for our great nation.”
On July 23, in a response to the three students, Mr. Jonathan commended Mr. Daramola and his friends, adding, “I am proud of the work he is using his intellect to achieve.” Then the president promised that somebody would be in touch with the students “to explore the possibilities of deploying this technology for use by our security agencies.”
A few days later, Thisday newspaper picked up the report http://www.thisdaylive.com/articles/jonathan-to-invite-finland-based-stu.... The Punch also wrote a feature highlighting President Jonathan's engagement with Nigerians on Facebook.
But the students said they were dismayed that they never heard from any of Mr. Jonathan’s aides. One of them said they felt “used and dumped by the president to promote his Facebook activities.”
Another of the students told SaharaReporters that a fellow named Reno Omokri informed them, after their fruitless waiting to hear from Jonathan, that he (Omokri) had recommended Mr. Daramola’s post to one of Jonathan's special advisers, whom he did not name. But Mr. Omokri later asked the Finland-based students to send a message to Oronto Douglas, Jonathan’s senior special assistant on research and strategy. They said they never heard back from Mr. Douglas.
Omokri works with the American political strategist, Joe Trippi. Mr. Trippi is a consultant to Mr. Jonathan’s presidential campaign.
After months of silence from the President’s office, the students in Finland heard that Mr. Jonathan had published a book about his Facebook exchanges. “We were very surprised, if not shocked, to learn that we were featured in the president’s ‘Facebook’ book where it is claimed that the Finland students were ‘promptly invited for consultations’. It never happened,” said a source.
Mr. Omokri admitted that, based on his knowledge of what transpired behind the scenes, he did not think that the assertion in the book was accurate.
One of the students, who spoke to SaharaReporters anonymously, said none of them was ever invited to present their proposals. Mr. Omokri said he washed his hands off the issue and had asked the students to contact Mr. Douglas directly.
Mr. Omokri also said he was worried that Mr. Daramola's colleagues were slightly desperate and could have orchestrated a negative campaign against the president over the issue. But one of the students denied the charge, describing themselves as young patriotic Nigerians who were drawn to the idea that Jonathan was sincere in asking Nigerians to engage with him on Facebook to find solutions to the nation’s crises.
When SaharaReporters reached Dipo in Finland, he said he wasn't willing to speak regarding the issue claiming he had a deep personal issue to deal with at the moment.
Our investigations show that the Finland-based students were not the only Nigerians disaffected by their engagement with Jonathan on Facebook. A California-based Nigerian, Toyin Dawodu, said he was dismayed that the president had not taken up his promise to deliver 4,000 megawatts of electricity to Nigeria. Mr. Dawodu was also cited in Jonathan’s facebook page as someone to be contacted to help solve Nigeria’s power and energy crisis. But Mr. Dawodu now said he believes the whole Facebook interaction was a farce. He told SaharaReporters that Mr. Omokri also put him in touch Mr. Oronto Douglas.
Our investigation revealed that Mr. Omokri knew Mr. Dawodu well and helped facilitate a meeting between Dawodu and Mr. Douglas. At the meeting, Mr. Dawodu submitted his proposal on power projects to Douglas but did not hear back on time. He then raised the stakes by relating his experience in an article in a Nigerian newspaper, 234Next. After the publication, Mr. Jonathan’s office contacted Mr. Dawodu. Professor Barth Nnaji, who heads Jonathan’s task force on power, sought to meet with Mr. Dawodu to discuss his proposal. But when they met in New York during the UN General Assembly, Mr. Nnaji did not seem interested in listening to what Mr. Dawodu had to say – and appeared dismissive.
Mr. Dawodu told SaharaReporters that he himself had generated all the publicity in Nigerian newspapers to get his case heard, but that Mr. Jonathan and his aides tried to claim credit for it. “I realized it was all a scam after chasing them down to hear me,” said Mr. Dawodu.
Mr. Omokri said he fulfilled his commitment to Dawodu. He said he helped set up contacts for Dawodu and that Dawodu actually met and delivered a proposal to Oronto Douglas who in turn handed it over to Mr. Nnaji. Mr. Omokri said he was satisfied that there was complete follow through in Mr. Dawodu's case.
Mr. Douglas told SaharaReporters that the consultation with Dipo Daramola was still in progress. He added that the Finland-based student had promised to visit Nigeria this June to meet with the Inspector General of Police. He said he also hoped Mr. Daramola would also be meeting with President Jonathan to discuss his crime tracking ideas.
Mr. Daramola’s colleagues said they were not aware that Daramola was planning a meeting with Mr. Douglas. Also, they said they not optimistic that Mr. Jonathan and his aides could be trusted. They wondered why Mr. Jonathan would seek to meet long after the April 9, 2011 presidential election, when it was uncertain that he would still be in office.

The President tried to Engage.....
The president initiated an innovation by engaging the Citizenry in an open forum like the FB where all manners of discourse would be entertained. If you have ever had cause to seek audience with the presidency on any issue then you will appreciate the ease, appeal, beauty and audacity of this communication forum. I expect the FB friends to admit that we have something to build upon, to relate through,to express ourselves, and to offer good counsel for good governance. This is not intended to be a self- seeking,self-recognition, self-aggrandisement,name -dropping...outlook.
@Kolawole Nigerian Passport
Kolawole, i can confirm that it is not a scam.I had to apply for a visa to Nigeria and went to the NHC in London. The basement was packed and disorganized so i eventually settled for a postal application and had to use this swgloball website which i was totally unsure of but went ahead with it. Note however that it charges in Dollars. When the transaction is complete, you receive a receipt and an interview date which could be anything from 3 - 6 months from the date of payment. It worked for me and i got my visa 7 working days after using the payment website. I advise you do a proper research. The information on the website is outdated, don't bother calling the high commission cos no one picks the phones (too busy i guess) and don't bother emailing (no one responds).
vote 4 buhari
this is de right time 4niger 2 experience free and fair election which at the end Buhari wll b elected by the majority of nigerians. Gej shuld cooperate and make niger 2 progress.
fruadsters and liars
Guys when talking to any of these PA's for GEJ about ventures always put a disclaimer in front of them for them to sign otherwise all they do is get ideas from you and run with it and call their own ideas. some of these Advisers or PA's are guys who do not have a clue about what they are supposed to do, most times you find that the likes of Oronta Douglas are given these positions because they are of the same ethnic extraction as GEJ. If there are patent laws in nigeria and other laws to protect your ideas i urge any and everyone to use them. Its about time we as nigerians know our rights legally
@ Kolawole you are right same happened to me
I was also direted to that crap of a web site www.swgloballlc.com , when i tried to check out nigerian embassy for passport @ ottawa. why must any thing that involve nigeria has to be this hard.how could nigerian embassy in ottawa not able to issue passport to nigerians in canada yet someguy will tell me nigeria is not yet a failed nation. nigeria as it stands rite now is a failed country period
NIGERIAN PASSPORT, COULD THIS BE A FRAUD?
WHY IS NIGERIA IMMIGRATION DIRECTING PEOPLE TO www.swgloballlc.com , TO APPLY FOR NIGERIAN PASSPORT?
Hello fellow Nigerians, I have a machine readable Nigerian Passport which expires in September 2011. I was told by someone in the Nigeria High Commission in the UK that it is not valid anymore, therefore I have to apply online for a new one (ePassport). Went to Nigeria High Commission web site which linked me to Nigeria Immigration web site. I clicked the option to apply for standard passport then a menu that says APPLY ONLINE. I got another option for ePassport Application Form, this option then took me to another page that says Apply For New Passport, then Passport Type: I chose Standard ePassport, then Processing Country: which I again chose United Kingdom, I then clicked a button that says Start Application. I was then taken to the above web site, (www.swgloballlc.com) which has nothing to do with Nigeria Immigration or Nigeria High Commission. The web site says "To start application, login here using", then gave three buttons to click, 1. Google, 2. Yahoo, 3. OpenID and none of these buttons works. Please Sahara Reporters, can you investigate this to enable Nigerians know if this web site is a fraud or not. And also to find out from Nigeria Immigration why they are making life difficult for Nigerians to obtain passport especially as they rendered many Nigerian passport useless when they are still valid.
DERI is now ADEPITAN
You, that is commenting from a cybercafe know someone in FINLAND, you ever been to an airport?? AGBERO
While l was still on GEJ
While l was still on GEJ Facebook page. l made loads of critical comments about his ADMINISTRATION and l made mention of what can/could be done to make Nigeria work, however maybe! maybe! bcos l wasn't one of those numerous praise singers you find on his page my comments was deleted and my account was deleted too....So mucH for GEJ, GEJ go and debate with youself just like your Vice president liar!
Thanks
Emassaa
Please disregard Adepitan's
Please disregard Adepitan's input, he's none other than that same idiot you may already know.... by their girama ye shalls knowses them.
Ignore messages from him completely, he's just here to drive people nuts.
He frequently changes his identity to try make us believe his unpopular master does still have 'fans', but I've digitally decoded his fingerprint!
Tell us what your master has achieved, he won't talk... but then goes on endlessly telling us fibs in an attempt to disprove recorded history without evidence.
Ignore him that chameleon!
@Adepitan
You lied...lie. lie, lie!
Quoting you, "Dipo is my friend and he's been met with by MR president..Infact some of those advice he gave to Mr president is already in use.. "
Hahaha! you are one of Yahoo Yahoo boys on these pages. Dipo is in Finland, he is mad as hell over a personal problem, I know Dipo and I don't want to give away any information about his personal troubles, but he hasn't met your FB President. Dipo is on Facebook, he's read this story and spoken to me about it. Oronto Douglas called him. Everything written here is accurate, 110%, you may hate SaharaReporters, but don't underestimate them.
Go and check Reno Omokri's page, if this was false he would have take Sahara to the cleaners, but he is as quiet as night time.
You don't know Dipo!
IT WILL TAKE TOTAL BLINDNESS!!!!!!!!
It will take total blindness to vote for People's Democratic Party (PDP). Only four sets of people can vote for PDP:
1) Those who are intellectually blind;
2) Those blinded by ethnicity;
3) Those blinded by corruption and afraid of the unknown, should power change hands; and finally
4) Those suffering from a combination of the 3 terminal illnesses above"
- "Prof. Wole Soyinka".
I removed myself from his friend's list
In the beginning when I thot GEJ was going to do something different and perform while in office I joined his fb page. After 9 months of nothing to show for being the president, I had gladly removed myself from Jonathan's fb friends.
I was very easy, I just had to click the "Unlike" button and I am so glad I did. GEJ has got nothing to deliver fr Nigeria. He's a scam, liar and he's so corrupt!
I will like to use this
I will like to use this opportunity to advice Amos to grow a brain. You are guided by sentiments just like most nigerians and it will be very unfortunate to hear you and your likes having the last cry when Jonathan who obviously does not have a sense of direction nor a mind of his own drop you into a steaming pile of shit in the next 4 years.
I'm surprised that anyone
I'm surprised that anyone ever thought it was GEJ himself that was updating that facebook page. He may never have even read anything from there for once. And this is the same man that promised, at his rally over the weekend, to fix all our issues (including piracy in the entertainment industry!) in the next four years when his only achievements to date seem to be building up a reputation of speaking from both sides of the mouth and not living up to his words.
THAT IS WHY PROGRESSIVE PEOPLE LIKE
That is why progressive people like Fashola will never read Saharareporters. YOU HAVE LOST YOUR CREDIBILITY. WHAT KIND OF REVOLUTION ARE YOU ADVOCATING IN NIGERIA? WHAT MAKES YOU THINK REBADU AND BUHARI REPRESENT THIS SENTIMENTS YOU ARE PROPAGATING? Anyway, each day that passes by you are losing more and more people who thought you were honest with your reporting. READ THE THE TYPE OF OBJECTIVE ANYLYSIS IN politico.com and see how to work objectively.
I BELIEVE THE AGENT OF ZONING ARE YOUR PAY MASTERS
VOTE RIBADU/ADEOLA; VOTE ACN
VOTE RIBADU/ADEOLA; VOTE ACN
Nigerians, before you vote on April 2, 9, & 16 for our lawmakers, governors, and president, ask yourself these questions:
Am I better off today than I was 12 years ago when the PDP came to power?
Am I better off today than I was 4 years ago when the PDP organised the worst election in Nigerian history and rigged itself to power?
12 years is enough time to make a difference and change the fortune of any country. After 12 years of failed promises, it’s time to vote out the PDP.
Vote Ribadu/Adeola; Vote Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN)

It Could Be a Sin to Vote Against Buhari!
If you really Love Nigeria and genuinely care about Nigeria getting Better, why would you hesitate to vote for the only man that has NO STAIN OF CORRUPTION on him?
If you are truly a Christian, why would you vote against Buhari, a completely corrupt free Nigerian in favour of a docile and corrupt man just because the corrupt man pretends he is a Christian?
If you are a Christian Remember that bearing false witness against another is a sin! Above all, remember that deliberately lying against even a non-Christian is equally very sinful. Hence, deliberately peddling falsehood against Buhari must be a sin before God.
All I ask of you is investigate and think before conclusions.
Remember that Buhari has held several public offices in Nigeria including the highest office and never failed.
Remember that Buhari has never used his position to victimise anyone on any grounds let alone on religious grounds.
Remember that Buhari's running mate is a highly respected Pastor.
Above all, remember that Buhari is the only person you can trust to bring back sanity to Nigeria.
Remember that Voting against Buhari is like Voting against the Development of Nigeria
Jonathan does not get it !!!
Ask GEJ the tough question: "what are the most serious problems facing us as a nation taody?" And he will, as usual, fumble with the buttons on his shirt.
If our president lacks the intellectual capacity to define our problems, he will never come close to the solutions as well.
Jonathan, a home-grown academic, is unfortunately not a talent for solid nation-building. He simply does not have what it takes to make a nation great, not his fault though; it is in his nature.
Worst still, he is in the notorious and wrong party,PDP, surrounded by criminals, billionair civil servants -- enemies of our people and nation -- whose major preoccupation is to loot, plunder and steal our money and resources.
Millions of our improvished citizens are suffering in Nigeria, without adequate food, water, power, education, roads, transport and employments as a result of organized crime and corruption perpetrated by people in positions of authority.
PDP is in trouble
PDP is in trouble ... things are falling apart, the head, the center and even the tail can not hold. Nigerians lets nit be deceived again, lets not allow religious and ethnic sentiments mar our vision and quest for a better life for ourselves and out children.
facebook president
we need man with liver to lead this country from may 29....
we are tired of deceive and lies
we are tired of hearing unfulfiled promises since 1999...
we need change of leadership
vote out bad leaders
PDP is a Disaster.
The Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) has accused the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) of using kickback funds creamed off the proceeds of a rice waver to funds its campaign for next month’ elections.
The party, in a statement issued in Ilorin, Kwara State, yesterday by its National Publicity Secretary, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, said the PDP-controlled Federal Government granted a duty concession on the importation of 500,000 metric tons of rice (10 million bags) to what it called an unscrupulous firm, and then received as kickback N9.6 billion, representing two-thirds of the clearing charges, which the party has been using to fund its electioneering campaign.
In addition, it said, the waiver – which can only be granted by the President – resulted in a loss to the Federation Account of N14.5 billion in duty, surcharge, CISS, ECOWAS fee, rice levy and clearing charges, while also causing a distortion in the economy by putting the rice market in disarray.
Challenging PDP to deny these claims, ACN called on the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to investigate this act of corruption and economic sabotage, for its corrosive effects on the economy and the general elections.
Explaining the details of the duty concession, the party said after the Federal Government gave duty concession to some unknown oil companies, to import 500,000 metric tons of rice, the companies then hawked the concession to an unscrupulous rice importer, with a gratification payment of two-thirds of the import duty payable, which was then given to the PDP for electioneering campaign at the detriment of the country and other rice importers who have paid correct duty on their own importation as stipulated by law.
‘’Genuine importers of rice are now unable to sell their rice with a landing cost of N7,000 per bag at the current price of N6,000 per bag – the price at which the importer that received the waiver from the government is selling. Consequently, these genuine importers who employ thousands of people have been forced to lay off their workers as they face huge bank loans.
‘’Furthermore, the public is being denied the opportunity of buying high quality rice because of the price differential between the rice imported under the duty concession, which is of inferior quality, and the various brands of high quality rice brought in by genuine importers.
‘’This deal (duty concession), which we warned against in a statement last year, has exposed the unpatriotic attitude of the PDP and its bigwigs, their win-at-all cost mentality and their disposition to corrupt practices and other acts that are detrimental to the economy of the country,’’ the ACN said.
But the PDP described ACN’s allegation as wild.
The Director of Media and Publicity of the Presidential Campaign Council (PCC), Mallam Abba Daboh, said: “I will say it is another wild allegation. Rubbish. Another wild, wild ACN allegation. They are clinging at straws again. I see it as another allegation of the ACN that it has become infamous for without recourse to finding any decent way to defend it. I dismiss the allegation in its entirety.”
hmmmmmmmmmmmmm
its such a crying shame,so we are now reduced to he said, she said,is this the government we want, are these the youths that claim they want to help the country,if they cant be straight with their facts, how can we trust them to be straight with implimentation,if the presidency cant be straight with information, then how can they be straight with our governance and our democracy.
How long do we continue with this cloak and dagger routine.
GEJ CANT FOOL NIGERIANS
I stil believed d enemy is at work against President Gudluck, how can he b fooling millions of people? When he knws that it can backfire. His enemy is at work against him, they won't suceed.

Which Goodluck Jonathan Facebook Fan Page is Genuine?
I have perceived this will happen one day. I never believe Goodluck Jonathan is directly in charge of the traffic-laden Facebook page. Read this post: http://www.theinfostrides.com/index.php?topic=5128.0
In this post, sensitive question was raised: Which Goodluck Jonathan Facebook Fan Page is Genuine? Some people are just looking for favour and bring up the Facebook page as a campaign strategy for the president. Although, some of the wall posts may be from the president but some have already indicated that President Goodluck is not directly relating with people on the wall. Any promise kept on the wall may not see the light of the day.
Or what do you think?
If Jonathan fails let him
If Jonathan fails let him blame the people that surrounds him.
Those sycophants and criminals is Jonathan doom.
GEJ is too deceitful to be trusted!
Few weeks ago, Jonathan was deceiving Nigerians on Facebook by describing Reno Omokri's "Light up Nigeria Project" as non-partisan. Reno Omokri can no longer hide the fact that he is Jonathan's foot soldier as revealed during the campaigns in the U.S.A. Jonathan is simply too deceitful to be trusted on anything!
