Judge "Apologizes" For Postponing Ruling On Babangida's Theft Of $12.4bn Gulf War Oil Windfall-PREMIUM TIMES
Nigerians will have to wait another week to know if Civil society groups have the right to know how $12.4 billion gulf oil windfall was spent by the Federal Government under former Military dictator, Ibrahim Babangida, following the adjournment of a suit over the money.
Gabriel Kolawole, presiding judge of the Federal High Court, Friday morning, postponed the delivery of judgement on the matter to November 29.
The judge apologised for the adjournment, which is one of many previous adjournments in the suit.
A group, the Socio-Economic and Accountability Project (SERAP), and five others sued the Attorney- General of the Federation (AGF) and the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) over the much publicised $12.4 billion oil windfall, which the country recorded between 1988 and 1992, while former military dictator, Ibrahim Babangida was in power.
The plaintiffs also asked the court to make an order compelling the CBN and the AGF to publish detailed accounts relating to the spending of the sum of money between 1988 and 1994. They also sought for an order of the court compelling the respondents to diligently and effectively bring to justice anyone suspected of corruption and mismanagement of the sum; as well as the release the official copy of a probe into the spendings by a committee set up by the government and headed by Pius Okigbo.
The Federal Government argued, among others, that it could not find an official copy of the probe report and that “only the AGF as a defender of public interest has the right to seek information on the spending of the $12.4 billion oil windfall.”
RESULT IS OUT
NO Enough evidence to try Babangida. That is the ruling you will all hear and nothing and i repeat, nothing than you coward of a people can do.
Everybody will die
how many judge have been killed in Nigeria because of his/her decisions? Wake up! Everybody will die
rest in peace
Pls rest this case in peace
We are not interested
How much has been stolen since then.
All past governors theft is expected in hundreds of trillion, yet they are all walking the streets of Nigeria untouched, you now charge a retired military general to court
Is all funny
Tell us who you are
You simply went off-track. One wonders whether you are an advocate of a criminal. Please mend your ways
Don't blame the judge
As Bola Ige said, happy are those who don't hope for they shall not be disappointed. That judge needs to be careful otherwise if he gives an "unfavorable" verdict, he might just disappear....IBB is too ruthless to let one bloody civilian expose him at this twilight of his life. I truly fear for the judge and his family members bcos if something bad happens to him, Nigerian masses would only shout, and that's it, it's his family that will suffer alone. Whether the judge makes a pronouncement or not, we all know the truth as revealed in Okigbo report. For sure, copies of the report are with some individuals including our repressible media houses but fear won't let them publish it.
What It Will Take
The next thing for Nigeria to try is segregation. Nigeria was never meant to be unified the way the selfish British lamely intended. Further, no popular leadership has emerged since independence to unify the country. Once we return back to pre-British stage, each independent ethnic could manage its own affairs anyway they want-no longer hesistant to being the sacficial lamb, even a dozen times. Those who think otherwise should understand what it'll take to bring the north up to standard-Jerry Rawlings revolution to be enforced as necessary for another 52 years.
Let give the judge enough time to perfect his home work!
@ Kabiru Y Suleiman, try to understand the adage of Yorubas that says " Ti owo omode o ba te eku Ida koni bere Iku to pa baba eni " meaning,"if the hand of a child did not tourch a sword' he will never ask for the course of his fathers death".Nigerian hand has tourch the sword ,it is time to asked for the money looted by all this bastards including Obasanjo and the rest. Let give the Judge enough time to perfect his home work before jumping on this case.As for Obasanjo, pls don't relax ,because u are the next person on the line.
This is the beginning of the Revolution that we are talking about.
Don't rely on Nigerian Judiciary to do what is right and just.
Nigerian Judicial system is rotten and corrupted to the bones.
Goodluck has no discernible and reliable political base; coming from a limited population base that is based on our past census result that is in itself questionable. GEJ is a President that is as compromised as they come. How anyone will imagine that he will give the go ahead to try IBB, one of the greatest advocates of the present inequitable social structure and corrupt system, beats me.
I am not relying on our present Judiciary to do what is right and just. Mr. Gabriel Kolawole will be an exception if he does otherwise.
DO THE NEEDFUL
Stop apologising and do the needed with the evidence at your disposal. Remember your name is at stake here and posterity will judge you based on your posture to the truth.
But is Nigeria's a government run by Criminals?
In a sane world, even a police recruit has the right to look into whether or not $12.4 billion went missing or not. What is this Nigeria like? It is fast turning to a wonderland. Is governance in Nigeria an activity run by plain criminals? What is there in allowing the public know if one man - a past military dictator who usurped power by force - did misuse the country's money?
Those who get liver no go school
Those who get liver no go school, those who go school with Phd in their region no get liver to fight corruption. GEJ wake up!
Much Ado about nothing..
If Justice Okigbo`s probe is missing how do we expect to know much was spent by IBB who had claimed , he spent the gulf war oil windfall on finanancing of Liberian civil war. This matter had been closed long time ago, if one should take a look on the trend of Heads of state and Presidents from 1993--2012. The only happiness for the masses is that part of the money is at work in Nigeria, check out the Business Moguls who are associates of IBB and you can agree with me. By next week every ear that hears the would be ruling must tingle. Do not say I told you ,"Justice delayed could be Justice denied". So why much Ado about nothing. This is Nigeria.
Endless Distractions
Apology or whatever, we know that this judge lacks the gut to speak the truth. He really cannot do much with a dented spine. Does anyone thinks that he has the resources already to relocate himself and extended family members should he pronounce IBB guilty? All his distractions are being done because he lacks the gut, and he fears the consequences of giving out a guilty verdict. I am ashamed to admit that all these guys we have in high places are not really ready to even lose a finger for a comoom good, talk-less of scarificing for motherland. Picture yourself inside the judge's enclave, and you would witness vast amounts of last-minute shuffling back-and-forh....coupled with ocassional inputs from the loving spouse.
Laughable
As laughable as it is predictable. They want to measure reactions...quite a game.
THE VANISHING ACT OF THE OKIGBO REPORT HAS CRIMINAL IMPLICATION
A "legitimate" government of a sovereign nation cannot just wake up one morning and claim that the report of a panel set up for a very important national question which cost millions of dollars to produce has suddenly developed legs and vanished. As if the insult is not enough the government has not set up any task force to find the report and to top it off,the same government is arguing that Nigerians have no right to request for the report despite the fact that the conniving Attorney General has clearly reneged and is refusing to do the duty he owes to the Nigerian people.
On whose watch did the Okigbo Report vanish and what was the sinister motive behind the disappearance, why has the government not offered any explanation except"we cannot find it".This excuse borders on criminality,Nigerians must get to the answer of the questions posed by this act of disrespect,it is a rape on our democracy ,it must never be permitted,
What a shame! God will judge them
Why this judge cannot show the bottle and just do the right thing is simply beyond me. GOD WILL JUDGE
What a shame! God will judge them
What a shame!! This is the most straightforward of all issues. Why this judge cannot show the bottle and just do the right thing is simply beyond me. GOD WILL JUDGE
Sleeplessly waiting!.
I wonder when are we going to Stop all these Monkey Business and Call a spade a spade!. Even the DAVE had heard the Attrocity this Plaintiff had Committed when he was on Power; now Nemesis is about to poke it's face on the Surface you guyz are Trying to Play Fiddle. Look....! NATIONAL Honour would forever gone to any Man who would dare to Order the Dare-devilled Ditator to Accountability, Let others Learnt from it.
I knew it
Its not rocket science. It would not have taken a magician to predict today's outcome. I guess the trick of the trade is to put us all on high jump, or "...is coming". I feel so gullible myself for expecting to have gotten a concrete ruling today.....
Surprised!!!
I am surprised!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
IBB is vindicated
Sahara reporters why are so sentimental whenever an issue on IBB's regime comes around? You seems to lack Nigeria political knowledge. Government is a system, a multi cellular not uni-cellular. Whenever a scandal or a conflicting issue arises within the government, it is the entire govt that will bear the burden not IBB alone. Please, stop been subjective. Talk about obasanjo's 16 billion dollars for the proposed and siphoned 6000 megawatt power generation.
reply
Nigerians lack the culture of asking.
Hope GEJ won't just sit down
Hope GEJ won't just sit down there and fold his arms. He can and should enforce justice.
yoruba judges have no liver
The judge is scared of IBB. That is a normal yoruba man for you.
He will give a judgment in favor of IBB written ruling.
YES
Trying to figure out a way to sweep things under the carpet, but i guess its becoming increasingly difficult as this already is in the public domain with all eyes popped open and ears stretching .
