Kidnappers Demand N200m Ransom For Six Expatriates Abducted Off Bayelsa Coastline
The unidentified gunmen who abducted six expatriates off the Bayelsa coastline have demanded a ransom of N200 million for their freedom.
The Police Public Relations Officer for the Bayelsa Command, Mr. Fidelis Odunna, confirmed the development in a telephone chat today.
A Russian, three Ukrainian and two Indian sailors were abducted on Sunday when the vessel they were working in was attacked.
Odunna said that the police anti-kidnapping squad was already on the trail of the kidnappers.
“We have already dispatched our men to track down the kidnappers and contact has been established with them and they are asking for N200 million,” the spokesman said.
It will be recalled that on February 15, Gov. Seriake Dickson signed a new law which provides the death penalty for kidnapping in Bayelsa.
