Kidnappers Take-over Delta State, Kill Soldiers, Abduct Setraco Staff
The much talked about and well-publicized “Peace and Security” agenda of the Delta state governor, Emmanuel Uduaghan, has suffered a major setback as kidnappers continue a reign of terror in the oil rich state.
Barely three days after the brazen abduction of the mother of Nigeria’s Minister of Finance, Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, in Ogwashi-Uku, Aniocha South local government area, kidnappers stormed Ughelli this morning, snatching an expatriate staff of Setraco Construction Company and killing a military official attached to the company.
It was a show of force between the armed kidnappers and the military attache at Setraco, the construction company in charge of the East-West Road and the Ughelli Township dualized road. Both sides engaged in a gun battle beginning at about 8a.m. on the Ekuigbo axis of Ughelli Township Road following the abduction of the staff member.
Eyewitnesses told our reporter that the soldier failed to repel the gunmen, who shot him in the leg before seizing the staff member.
He was rushed to the Ughelli General Hospital but was confirmed dead on arrival.
The incident has brought to a halt all construction work at the company on the East-West and Ughelli Township roads.
Military check points around the Ughelli axis, especially at Ekrerhavwe junction, have been increased and put on high alert as cars coming from Agbarho and from Beta glass areas are compelled to undergo a thorough search.
It would be recalled that on November 27, at Gbarigolor Community in Ughelli South Local Government Area of the state, two Lebanese and a Nigerian were kidnapped after their abductors engaged the military personnel and the local vigilante group in a shootout which left a staff of Setraco, Mr. Joseph Akpudi, dead.
The company, however, denied that the kidnapped persons are on its staff, claiming they belonged to an affiliate known as “Building Technology” which is presently working under Setraco from where they were whisked away during work time.
As of the time of filing in this report, all attempts to speak with the management of the company proved abortive. When contacted, the Delta State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Charles Muka, said he had not been briefed on the matter.

Bunch of criminals called freedom fighters
Nigeria is now in a sorry state. Niger Deltans fighing for emancipation and freedom my ass. In Nigeria now, core criminals, arm robbers, kidnappers are all freedom fighters. What a great pity indeed. Who told the Niger deltans that because the oil is flowing in the south, it belongs to them. Before the coming of the multinational companies did they even know where the oil is located, not to consider the drilling of the oil. The deltans benefited when cocoa, cotton and agriculture were the export product of the nation. Now they are making noise. Remember Niger deltans will not take oil well nor oil locations with them when they will leave this world. These people perpetrating this evil are all harden criminals. Even the so called freedom fighters are bunch of rogues, fighting for their pockets. Every soon the chicken will come to roast.
kidnapgn in delta state
Delta are fighting for right.U idiot are saying wat u like.
kidnapping
Cowards are born in SS/SE yes the oil flows from ur land but who controls it the man from kano or sokoto. The greatest coward president is from Niger Delta. Can crude flow from Lagos and be controlled in terms of oil blocks by a fulani man fools
kidnapping
U Niger Delta people are the greatest cowards on earth it took u half a century to wake up from ur sleep and demand for ur right as a people still ur guys are do not have a say about the crude oil that flows out from ur land most have allocated to fulani in terms of oil blocks ur people are amongst the poorest and backward in the world
"Kidnappers" OR Freedon Fighters
Why refer to these comrades as "Kidnappers"? They are freedom fighters.
Who is a kidnapper anyway? What is the definition of kidnapping?
The Oil companies & construction firms work with the illegal Nigerian continent to steal & Kidnap the oil wealth of a people & pollute their environment. Do you expect the people of the South South to sit & look? Idiots!
The South South peoples are no cowards like the Yorubas who allowed the Emir to be King in Illorin or cowardly like 'Gen' Oladipo Diya who knelt begging Major Mustapha to spare his life. An idiot he is indeed.
When a group of people kidnap the resources of a community, members of that community must respond by extending the same methodology to those who initiated it. It is a scientific law in kinetics---'for every action, there is an equal but opposite reaction'
Long live the United States of the SS&SE
@Commonsense: You must be a Yoruba man
You write that pen & camera are mightier than AK-47. You must be deranged. Where did you get that strange theory from? I strongly suggest you got it from the Oduduwa republic. Perhaps that is why the Emir from Fulani Empire is the King on Yoruba Land.
So you mean as Hamas fired rockets in hundreds into Tel aviv, Israel should have brough out lorry loads of pen & cameras to intercept the missiles & protect its civilians. Can't you see how stupid you are?
This attitude of yours is the reason why the senseless & directionless Hausa Fulani remained in power for 37years in Lagos. No single Yoruba man like you ever planned a coup. The only one who managed to, was caught on camera crying like a baby & beggin a younger officer for mercy. Yet he called himself General Oladipo Diya. What a shame.
You can carry your pen & camera when BH comes to Ibadan, but we in the Niger Delta will respond with something highly atomic not the cheap IEDs that they use.
Nothing but dead sentence on kidnappers.

@Commonsense ..... I think you are the bigger Idiot
From what I have read thus far, between the posts by akpos1 & yourself, it is clear that you are undoubtedly the Idiot.
akpos1 has mentioned cardinal points at the kernel of the rot in the Nigerian system. He mentioned Kidnapping of the resources of the people, the pollution of the environment & went scientific with the law of "Kinetics". Except for his reference to the cowardice of the Yoruba pple, I would have given this akpos1 101%. In any case, his opinion about Yoruba pple which he freely expresses on this forum is seemingly the belief of many Nigerians.
To me, he was modest & logical enough in his comment. Unfortunately, Nigerians like you like self deception & delusion. When the oil companies pollute the waters & kil all the fish, then import fish from Norway that poor Mama cannot buy, then someone MUST react. No permission is necessary for this reaction. It's Natural.
Long live the Niger Delta

I support the suggestion that
I support the suggestion that death sentence should be the purnishment for these kidnappers and terrorist. I would also add that this death sentence should be extended to any corrupt government official involved in looting nigeria money . It is only when the law is that inclusive that we can have a sane nation.
Re: Kidnappers take over Delta State
Governor Emmanuel Uduaghan is a crook and a key suspect of the kidnapping of the mother of the Minister of Finance. This is for real, and Federal Government should hold him responsible. If the police can be sincere to get the arrested Kidnappers to confess, Deltans and Nigerians will be shocked that this governor is not innocent of the recent up surge of dreaded kidnappers in Delta State.
RE: To Hell With Niger Delta People
Everyone here is making a lot of sense except for that fool called AKPOS!
The issue here is that Kidnapping is never the answer; it can only make it worse. How do you expect to develop exactly when you chase investment away from the region? Delta youths will never get out of violent circles and worse yet for children growing up under this siege too. These kidnappers just like MEND are only fighting for their criminal interest and not for any community. How many schools and hospitals or roads did MEND build for their communities?
School children in Delta are still sitting on the concrete classroom floor with no roof. Delta politicians live in mansions and own jets. Idiot like AKPOS1 sits in the creek awaiting handout from his criminal gang boss.
Niger Delta didn't learn from the North. Northerners chase companies and businesses away. See North today. They are still at it.
Pen and cameras are mightier than AK-47.
Delta State- A clueless leadership!
It comes as no surprise that these criminal acts emanate from this region. The leadership in delta is clueless, misdirected, misguided, corrupt and to say the very least abyssymally ignorant of what steps/corrective measures to take.
CAN OUR GOVERNOR READ THE WRITING ON THE WALL
I just hope our honourable governor of Delta State understood the writing on the wall. I wonder why he out rightly banned commercial motorcycle in the major cities in Delta State? Many of those riding commercial motorcycles were repented criminals. Now that he has taken their means of livelihood without making adequate provision for them to sustain themselves and their immediate family, they have decided to go back to their old trade. God will save us from rulers that do not take to advice!
Shame!
I honestly agree that Nigeria should be ruled by the military, too many animals on the streets of Nigeria and still these animals want development to live like humans.
