The Civil Society Network Against Corruption (CSNAC) has condemned the practice of members of the Lagos State House of Assembly of abandoning legislative duties to each time its Speaker, who is on trial for money laundering charges, is in court.  Mr. Adeyemi Ikuforiji, has a court date.

Mr. Ikuforiji and an aide, Oyebode Atoyebi, face serious counts of corruption and embezzlement of public funds.  The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), filed 20 counts of money laundering and conspiracy against both men, alleging they accepted cash payments of up to N500 million from the House without going through a financial institution.

In a petition to the House, signed by CSNAC chairman Olanrewaju Suraju, the group slammed the behavior of the legislators.  "We consider this action of honourable members on the referred matter as unbecoming, unacceptable and a gross misplacement of priorities".

The group drew attention to a recent experience in the House when the Speaker adjourned sitting apparently to allow members to attend the next trials scheduled for 18-21 February, 2013 at the Federal High Court, Ikoyi.

The statement held that touts and hoodlums were mobilised under the guise of "Stand Up for Lagos Group," a group previously unknown to the Nigerian public until yesterday, to not only attack members of CSNAC, but to also circulate fallacious.

“We are unperturbed by this display of recklessness, associated with accidental leaders of questionable character and background,” CSNAC said.

It reminded members of the House that they are paid their salaries, allowances and other perks from tax payers money and purportedly having earned a freely given mandate from Lagosians, they should at all times “prioritise the interest of the electorates by attending to parliamentary responsibilities and duties at the statutory periods rather than the unbecoming show of solidarity in a manner akin to the activities of rented crowds and political cheering of leaders under trial".

Said the group, "Members of the House of Assembly are expected to comport themselves in a manner that protects public interest and enhances public confidence and trust in the government as well as maintain high moral conduct in public office".
CSNAC is a coalition of over 150 anti-corruption organizations whose primary aim is to vigorously combat corruption, constructively and effectively monitor and support Anti-Corruption Agencies in their fight against corruption in order to rid Nigeria of the grievous consequences of corruption and evolve a culture of transparency, accountability as well as financial and moral probity.

LAGOS SPEAKER COURT CASE

Has the Speaker deny signing the vouchers that was used to collect the money?

If the answer is No.

I beg no body should cause anybody.

(I suspect that money may be have been shared with some members,
or why are they coordinating the crowd)

Has the Speaker accounted for what he did with the N500m

I believe the money is more than his salary and benefits, if so what steps has EFCC taken to get the Tax payers money back.

If the Speaker is even convicted for money laundry, the Judge would not order the return of the money.

Let EfCC take acion to collect our money for us.

So that it would not be like the Pension theft of N27b and court fine of N750,000.00, since EFCC did not ask for the return of our money.

I beg EFCC should get us our money back.

Lagos house of Assemly. Celebrating corruption

It is rather unfortunate that law makers are now trying to distract the interpreters due to the fact there man may be caught in the web of the law he has perceived to have made. This is against the background of the fact they have institutionalized corruption to the level that they did not see the show of shame they display any time there is a court hearing especially against the speaker. This act should be condemned in all totality. And again, is there no law that negate such practice of abandoning legislative work?

NO DIFFERENCE THEY ARE ALL

NO DIFFERENCE THEY ARE ALL THE SAME.FULL OF DECIET AND LIES.

ENEMIES OF PROGRESS

its so obvious that its the same set of people that posted this story that is putting a backup comments so as so create bad impression of this very innocent man. its clear where this is coming from. the only way some people make ends meet is by tarnishing other peoples image, maybe some of you haters should try to go through the profile of Mr Speaker and get to know the kind of person he really is....May God Punish all of you that is behind this, i wonder how much you are being paid for u to do this. u have forgotten that at the end Olorun koni fi eyan ti e sile!...the more u do this the more popular this man becomes and the more back warded you all will be...ijn,amen.

ACN ON TRIAL IN LAGOS STATE

What is this show of shame by (dis)honourable members of the Lagos state house of assembly? Nigerians expect them to condemn and fight corruption in its entirety no matter its perpetrators. The speaker is standing trial on money laundry. That calls for worry. Rather than speak out loudly in condemning the act, the members are renting crowds with public funds to obstruct trial. Where are the party leaders, pls?

Yet we want Nigeria to be great!

Where are those partisan or 'PARTY-SAN' (Staunch Attack-dogs of Nigeria) SR gang of President Jonathan/Federal Government bashers? Where are those that believe corruption has colour, tribe or Party? Why are they not condemning the corruption in the Lagos State House, and the show of shame displayed by these hired thugs? As I thought, they are compromised and brainwashed individuals that only see the perceived malfeasance of the Federal Govt?

Where are the inconsistent opportunists or political jobbers, like Joe Igbokwe? Why is Joe silent about this corruption found in his party, but sees that of ONLY THE PDP? Every type of corruption must be condemned without exception.

What's the difference between PDP and ACN?

This same Lagos House of Assembly did not hold any investigative hearing into its own missing funds, and has now refused to investigate the 530 million Naira allegedly stolen by the Lagos House of Asssembly Speaker now on trial.

Yet, the Action Congress says it is the alternative to a corruption-ridden Peoples Democratic Party (PDP)?

What is the difference?

''Nigerians are the problems

''Nigerians are the problems of ourselves'' This statement of yours is a dangerous generalisation! because some group of rented crowd made some fallacious claim does that mean they represent collective thought of the Nigerians?

Lagos House, Best Legislative?

What make Lagos House of Assembly best legislative house as carried by the placards? Is the alleged fraud by its speaker or laws for public good they have made? Nigerians are the problems of ourselves.

Govt.Arrangement!

What has happened is not new in Nigeria.Government also have thugs in uniform.Didnt a Nigerian Ambassador sponsored thugs to invade his Embassy? Nothing has happened to him till date.
