Mbo Youths Paralyze Operations In Oil Field In Unyenge, Demanding Jobs In Akwa Ibom
Hundreds of Mbo youths stormed the Stubb Creek Marginal Oilfield in Unyenge today, charging that outside contractors were receiving preference for jobs over local area contractors.
The youths also blocked the two access roads to the oilfield and turned away workers in their vehicles.
They further accused the oil firm of terminating a security contract handled by an indigenous firm that employed youths from the area who lost their jobs at the oil fields.
In response, the Mbo Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom shut down operations of the company and ordered oil workers including expatriates to withdraw from the project site.
The protest held up operations at the marginal field operated by the Universal Energy Resources Ltd, owned by Akwa Ibom state government with Chinese technical partners.
Some contactors whose personnel were already at the site appealed to the youths to allow them to withdraw from the site. They promised to stay away until the conflict between the communities and Universal Energy Resources was settled.
An armed police squad from Mbo Police Division, led by Superintendent of Police, Anietie Eyoh, arrived later to disperse the protesters but was unsuccessful. The Area Commander Assistant Commissioner of Police Ene Okon has reportedly ordered the arrest and detention of the youth leaders.
Tensions mounted in the communities as the youths trooped to the Oron Ara Command headquarters to demand the release of their leaders.
Youth president Eteka Etim said they were protesting the refusal of the oil firm operating in the area to sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the communities.
“We have resolved to block Universal Energy because of their maltreatment and neglect of the people of Orukun and the entire Mbo community since they started exploration of oil and gas on our land without any form of agreement.
Two things caught my
Two things caught my attention:
1. The report stated 100's of youths. I only saw a handful and do believe the rest are hidding in the nearby bush.
2. The term access road was also used.
It is pathetic that the footpath where these boys are standing is the access road to an oil exploration site/field.
These shows how Nigerians are being treated and the the regards these oil companies have for Nigerians.
If this site was in the USA, before the commencement of exploration, a dual carriage road/way would have been constructed to enable the company move heavy equipment to the site.
Poor Nigerians!
I will not be surprised if contract for such a carriage way was already awarded to an indigene and the money pocketed
or
money less than the cost for a road construction had been paid to someone who might have claimed he or she is the only voice in the community in lieu of a durable access road.
ENOUGH IS ENOUGH
You people should continue,we have been too patience for decades, since the oil company don't want to have repect for the host communities, stand on your right til your demands are made,be strong in the Lord.
@ You are a cretin
French man, "cretin" is going to eat your lunch. If not now, but very sooner. You cannot run from the truth. You are just feeling the heat and you are abusive. Wait until I get to the scene, the world will know who is the idiot - I will light fire under your chair. That is a threat and not a warning.
My country is not for sale.

Its All About Sustainable Development
To the Youths of Mbo Community, do not accept any bribe from anyone. Don't let them buy your conscience the way they have been doing in the past. Stay on to your demand; You are better than doing security job.You can be Engineer, Accountant, Energy Lawyer, Petroleum Engineer. Stop accepting petty jobs from Oil companies.
If there are no qualify people in your community who can do the same work that the Oyinbos are doing, they should provide scholarship to eligible applicants for technical training either at home in Nigeria or in the home country of the Oil company.
All of you should read and memorize the article posted in the link below at Hamiltonatlarge.blogspot.com on the oil spillage in Bonga field. It is relevant to your situation and it is relevant to any community in the Niger Delta, and mineral rich communities the world over.

Enough is Enough
Niger Delta people are the most patient group of people in Nigeria. If oil is in the north and they are facing all the environmental problems face by the Niger delta people am sure they will cut all pipes connecting oil to the south south, East and western part of the country. To be honest, what is making an average Hausa Fulani man think he is a Nigerian is because of the oil money. We should not deceive ourselves. Instead of them to develop the solid mineral sector which is found in abundance in the North, they are busy buying bombs and grenades to kill innocent people. Let Nigerians respect the Niger Delta people for their peaceful co-existent, understanding and harmonious living!

@Mbo Youths Paralyze Operations In Oil Field In Unyenge...
I urge Mbo youths from Akwa Ibom to demand for their rights and press for change of policies by the thieving politicians and company officials operation in Mbo.Same is applicable to all Niger-Delta youths.
It is pure insanity for someone to even mentioned that the 13% derivation funds given to the Niger Delta people is too much and tantamount to "inequality". Those thinking of such should be prepared because now it is going to be demand for complete resource control. No more Federal handout to lazy bands and corrupts terrorists!
Yes, you may not have pleaded
Yes, you may not have pleaded guilty to corruption charges but morally, where and how did you come by the monies you laundered?
God help us
Indeed, this is the greatest thing I've ever seen happening,
I see no reason why the federal government and the government of Akwa Ibom state will neglect us,and a mere Oil company exploring and Exploiting in My own community will still come and be treating us with inferiority complex,levity,contempt,disdain....and ouright dehumanization, giving out local contract, menial jobs and security job to strangers....God forbid, indeed kudos to my brothers back home for standing up to reject this...God bless you, because even God in Heaven knows that you are fighting a good cause...as for the commissioner of police that has arrested our leaders...well...I advice him to release them immediately,or maybe he wants to loose his head, and I trust my brothers that they will not hesitate to chop off hos head....God bless us all.

Give jobs to the youths from oil bearing communities
Diezani-Allisson Madueke, should be forced to take the bull by the horn and ask the oil firms owned by the nigerian parasites to hire indigenes of the oil bearing communities in the south south. Amnesty will never be able to solve the problems in the region until the masses are given full employment. The issue of hiring criminals from abroad as we saw during the crisis in the ND should be stopped. The oil producing areas have the right to work in the oil and gas sector. The governors from the SS should also be blamed for the mess in the oil industry. Cause instead of investing in companies in the down stream and up stream sectors of the oil insdustry, they prefer to chase the poor from the water fronts-erect banana plantations instead of oil drilling rigs. Banks for the south south-are all dead-how to re-activate the dead ones is never in their thoughts-while the minister refuses to create employment opportunities for her own ppl-the story is the same all over the SS.
time for the south south to take over the oil sector is now
Once again, there is raging controversy on the formula for sharing of national revenue. This age-long controversy that had been rested for some years following the allocation of 13% derivation to oil producing states in 1999, is firmly back on the front burner of public discourse. And, we have none other than the Governor of the Central Bank, Sanusi Lamido Sanusi, to thank for it.Sanusi, in a recent interview with Financial Times of London, kicked off the argument that Boko Haram, poverty and the general unrest in the Northern part of the country is a result of the lower sums they get from the Federation Account compared with the oil producing states
national confab now and not bombs-resource control not BH

ibori why una dey lie
Chief James Ibori, has denied that he pleaded guilty to alleged corruption charges at a London Court, last Monday.Chief Ibori, while reacting to reports widely reported in the media on Tuesday, said he never pleaded guilty to corruption charges as they had been withdrawn by the prosecution because they could not be proved. He said what he pleaded guilty were charges of money laundering, adding that “all corruption charges were dropped by the London police for lack of evidence.” Speaking through Mr Tony Eluemunor, his media assistant, Chief Ibori maintained that he did not plead guilty to corruption charges which were removed, because they could not be proved beyond any reasonable doubt, adding that the police stayed with money laundering charges to be proved by nothing but inference.Chief Ibori advised Nigerians not to be misled by the news reports of the Monday court session which, he said, were trusted to insane levels by media manipulation and misinformation.
