By SaharaReporters, New York

The Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority has confirmed the suspension of the operating license of Dana Airline, the operator of the MD 83 jetliner that crashed in Lagos on Sunday killing all 153 passengers on board.

The government said it took the decision to allow for a free and unfettered investigation into the circumstances surrounding the fatal crash of  flight #992 in Iju area of Lagos.

The suspension of Dana Air's operating licence came few hours after a Nigeria senator moved a motion requesting the authorities to ground Dana's air fleet today in Abuja.

what's Next?

Aren't there any other Airlines in Nigeria that are safe to Travel? My Husband is stranded in that Country, and was supposed to be home last week.We live In the USA. Unfortunatelly he had to go to Nigeria to work. What a Horrible mess this is!!!!I pray that he comes home safe and sound soon, and by the Grace Of God, never to go back to Nigeria again!!!!!

Dana Airline Crash

My dear good people of Nigeria,

Much as the Dana air crash is tragic and painful, I would not like us to rush into rash conclusions!

We have been informed that the accident would be investigated and I think we'd better wait for the outcome of the investigations. It is only then that our comments would be more meaningful.

It would be better to push that the outcome be made public unlike in the cases of previous air crashes. Usually when I hear that an air crash would be investigated, I see it as another way of saying "this case is hereby laid to rest". I hope this won't be the case with this accident!! Or I would be left with no choice than believe the Govt in power has the answer!!

May souls of our dear beloved victims rest rest in the bosom of the Lord

Jail Dana Airline Management

I don't think that suspending the liecence of DANA is good enough deterent for operators to learn from.
From all indication, the management were aware that the aircraft was bad and yet insisted that it be taken for that journey.
They were also warned that by the station manager but for their own selfish reasons, ignored the warning.
Why on earth should crew be forced to fly the aircraft.
Could this happen in India or any other part of the world? Why are the Asians use us as cheap labor in all their outfits and go free when lives are involved?
Our government should be responsible and punish anyone found guilty.

PROACTIVE AND NOT REACTIVE MEASURES

The suspension of the operating license of the Airline, following this unfortunate incident shows how our Policy Regulators magnifies reactive measures at the expense of being proactive in all services that has to do with human safety. The same Airline, flighted to one of the Nation's Airport, loaded with passengers, but could not land untill after two hours of hovering around the Airport and yet our Aviation safety regulators did nothing punitive and serious about the Airline in experimenting with lives of their patrons/passengers. The ill-fated Aircraft, was said to had developed a major fault at the Abuja Airport, where their Engineers from their Lagos office were flown there to fixed the technical fault and yet they could advice their management to avoid the use of the Aircrft for the return flight to Lagos. Those Engineers MUST also be sanctioned.

After The Horse Has Bolted

Nigeria always either tries at best to put the cart before the horse or at worst to close the barn door after the horse has bolted.

Or Jonathan cried and the burnt remains, mangled bones and dismembered body parts of the dead victims cameback to life.

Dana Airline operating license revocation is just too little too late.

nothing

that decision means nothing...more news and gist here at www.gistyinka.blogspot.com

GOVERNMENT NEEDS SERIOUSNESS.

We need to be serious in this country and not only be reactionary after major disasters claim lives. We heard about this crash today because it affected the middle and upper class nigerians. Think with me:
Has the government suspended the licence of road transport operators who kill people in their tens monthly on Nigerian roads?
What is the government doing about Nigerians who die daily while crossing major, sometimes 6 lane, expressways in Nigeria?
How many people die in our hospitals for lack of qualified doctors, no medicine, power failure, etc?
How many are daily robbed by the corruption in our civil service?
Nigeria must do something about these and many more, NOW!

Equip our essential ..........

Suspension of Diana air operating licence is a positive move in the right direction but the authorities has also a duty to play by equiping our essential services like the ambalance service and fire fighters equipments because what baffles me most is this, each time horror struck like this in Nigeria it took the fire fighter and ambalance service three hours to surface at the scene and if eventually they arrived at the scene, you will see them with an out dated fire fighting Equipments Lord lugard left behind.Buy them modern eguiments, good communication system and put ambalance on a standby readiness. In the country where I leave every major high way have a standby ambalance by the pomp station, incase of any eventuality. If we stop corruption and stop being selfcentered, we can achieve all this .

The attention must be towards

The attention must be towards the whole aviation sector. Not to discourage industry by witchunting DanaAir or Air Nigeria.

Bunch of idiotic senators.

What a bunch of idiots we call Senators in Nigeria. I wish this aircraft was carrying 98% of these idiots. Nigerians would probably be rejoicing now. A proactive society lives by action. Those representing the people should be the driving force of this pro activity. Their shortsightedness and greed for benefits, allowances and where they will collect the next AWOOF money - didn't allow them to foresee this disaster. Now other people's families are mourning. Most of them don't even fly because they have police escorts that use sirens to clear roads for them when they commute from A to B and when they do fly, they use corrupt colleagues' private jets. A much more proactive decision should be to ground the Nigerian senate because they are just there for nothing but to eat AWOOF. They had the power to revise regulations that could have prevented this. What a bunch of Idiotic rogues.

DANA's Operating leicence Suspended by WHOM and WHY?

No, absolutely the wrong move by the Executive! If the Executive is certain then it is okay but from what is known publicly, the Nigerian Government STOPPED Airlines Registered in Nigeria from operating aircrsaft that are more than twenty years old. Who then and Why the NCAA granted DANA Air an AOL? Unless and until that question is correctly ansewered, the issue of suspending a carrier is just a RED HERRING because the very act may prompt the obsfucation and even destruction of vital evidence.

It's getting too late...

It's getting too late for Nigerians to realise what their past and present leaders have turned the country into.Every aspect of our national existence have been and still being compromised till date.Corruption in high and low places with the arms of government manipulated to suit individual, tribal, political and party upliftment with total neglet of the populace. On the road,water/sea,air and at home Nigerians live in fear and abject poverty.Proliferation of arms became serious business when politicians recruited and armed thugs for personal security and intimidate or kill their opponents to deter rivalry. The security apparatti of our polity was compromised for political party dominance, the result today is what we see and hear daily.Senseless killings and deaths of Nigerians.

proper check

I suggest that not just Dana but all Airlines in Nigeria be properly investigated, to ensure that another 22 or 25 years old plane will not be put on air to fly unwillingly, and also more importantly, to avoid it ripping us of our loved ones within minutes. Airlines that still fly planes that is more than 15years, no matter the standard of maintenance, should be on probation within a period of time, and if those planes are not removed, or made to stop flying, that Airline should be banned from operation.

What about the Minister of

What about the Minister of Aviation? What does she know about the Aviation industry? What qualified her to be appointed Minister? What has she been doing since her appointment? Why should the crash be a surprise?

In a more civilised society, the Minister would be the first to go but here she just visited the crash scen and shed crocodile tears! She knows nothing about Aviation her last vocation being oil bunkering! Remember the findings of the Oil Subsidy Probe? The Madam submitted a bill for her "election expenses" to the fuel subsidy outfit and got paid billions for fuel she did not import! She got her appointment by virtue of her Neighbour-to-Neighbour work for Jonathan. And you expect anything good out of the probes? Since her appointment, all she has been doing is reconstructing airport terminals simultaneously! Why? The bigger the contracts the bigger the pay-off in kickbacks? Nigeria we hail thee!

Too Little

Too littel too late. When will the rest be grounded? We are waiting souless leaders. God's judgement will come swiftly for Nigerian leaders.

LOTS OF GHANA MUST GO BAG WILL RESTORE LIC SOON

License will be restored tomorrow.

NCAA and DG, Dr. Demuren, have questions to answer!

If the NCAA's regulatory provision is that any aircraft more than 20 years would not be allowed to fly in Nigeria, why did NCAA permit this aircraft to continue to fly after 22 years it was manufactured? Did 'egunje' change hands? It is even more shocking that this provision was not enforced in spite of several mechanical problems associated with the aircraft since 2010 when its' life span ought to have expired.

If NCAA had done its due diligence ab initio, they would not have registered this aircraft to fly in Nigeria given the experience of the erstwhile owners, the Alaska Airlines in the United States. Certainly the NCAA and its DG, Dr. Demuren have questions to answer

90% of aircrafts in Nigerian airspace are flying coffins

90% of the aircraft in nigeria including those belonging to the armed forces are not air worthy and will never be allowed to sit in any hanger of a serious country. Every year we hear of at least one plane crash. I hope that Igbotako ritualist aka Jimoh Ibrahim has also been grounded too?

Corruption

Nigeria is a corrupt nation. If the so called government launch any investigation they will end up enriching the panelists. This is because the panel of investigators will take bribe from the Indian owner of Dana air and cook up the story. The Indian owner will bribe the so called Nigerian Government to sit on the cooked report. Nigeria is a corrupt Nation

RIDICULOUS!

This is ridiculous! If this had happened in a civilized country, right now, some people would be facing criminal prosecution and serious jail time.
What we heard from that Dana whistleblower shows how dysfunctional Nigeria is!

Full and Thorough Investigations

Please, please, please, the government should launch a full and thorough investigations. The net must be cast as wide as necessary. It must be quick and transparent. Enough is enough. Nigeria must learn to do things right for once! I am sick of this country!

What about Lagos - Ibadan Express Road

What happen to innocent souls being killed on a daily basis on Lagos Ibadan express way? In the last one week, over 50 souls has been killed in avoidable road mishap. Petro Tanker Drivers has turn the road to a death trap and no government is saying anything about this. Dangote and his cohorts have turned the express road to their truck garage and Our dear Amosun, thie Ogun State governor is speechless. Amosun is a disgrace to The Institute of Charterred Accountants of Nigeria and Action Congress of Nigeria. The souls of the departed will forever hurt all these careless rulers.

Fantastic

This will serve as a lesson to other airlines who risk lives of innocent citizens. The management of Dana air should be charged and prosecuted with murder. Some Aviation staffs should be charged as well.I wish the departed soul an eternal rest.

Bullocks!!!

Jive talking!!! Boys Oye!!! We are coming to get you pricks big time!!! I promise, there will be nothing with the name 'Dana' on it that will be left standing!!! I swear on the blessed soul of every Nigerian that died on that flight. Nothing that bears that name will stand on the soil of my Fatherland, nothing!!! Landlords be warned!!!

How Many Over-Age Crafts Are Flying In Nigeria

Somebody failed to serve the public well. Why will an aircraft that is 22 years old be allowed to fly when the country's limit is 20 years.

Dana airline will not be the only one liable; the Nigerian Govt. has responsibilities also for not cracking down earlier.
