#Occupy Nigeria Protests A Divine Deal To End Corruption, Says Ribadu

Nuhu Ribadu
By Emmanuel Ogala

The anti-corruption activist says ongoing street protests offer a divine opportunity for citizens to insist on a corruption-free Nigeria.

The Occupy Nigeria movement which has expanded into demanding for social justice and end to corruption in governance is a divine deal, Nuhu Ribadu, presidential candidate of the Action Congress of Nigeria in the last general election, has said.

He said the movement and protests present an opportunity for Nigerians to renew their fight to eliminate corruption from their country.

“This is a truly divine deal and as I pray for peace and justice in my distressed homeland I hope we don’t miss it,” Mr. Ribadu said in a statement Thursday.

“My months of work in war-torn Afghanistan, seeing how corruption can strip a country from honor to horror, to the depths of the ravages of war,” he said “reinforces my reading that the ongoing massive street votes from Lagos through Yenegoa to Kano, and to all parts of the country today has opened another window of opportunity for us, as a people, to connect back to the purpose of a renewed anti-corruption agenda.”

Mr. Ribadu  said he remains fully in prayers for the expeditious resolution of this difficult situation.

“As many have commented openly, and others through their heroic street protest, the work to make our nation work ultimately resides in a strong anti-corruption commitment,” he added.

Mr. Ribadu was the pioneer chairman of Nigeria’s Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and currently on a United Nation’s anti-corruption team assessing the corruption status of Afghanistan.

He argued that only a zero tolerant Nigerian government model will find the resources to deliver the fruits of Nigeria’s investments in democracy.

@Clueless keneth

This speaks volume unlike your clueless moron

"Mr. Ribadu was the pioneer chairman of Nigeria’s Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and currently on a United Nation’s anti-corruption team assessing the corruption status of Afghanistan."

Just go back to what OBJ said a few months ago at UN; Jonathan is weak because he himself is corrupt.

TUNDEMASH

For your information the President and I are not from the same state. We don't need to be. To expose who the liar is, I went back to Wikipedia on Ribadu. The page has 6 sections. This is what it says about his stay abroad: "--He lived in exile until 2010 when he returned to Nigeria and declared his intention to run for President under the platform of the--(ACN)". This does not amount to asking for or being granted asylum and by whom. So, how did your mentor finance his stay overseas? On the same page we find "--Ribadu has however been accused of double standard and insincerity in his war on corruption--He has also been accused of corruption himself in that he failed to declare his assets--". Did he declare his assets? Has the President been convicted of corruption going by your standard? Do not expect the President to involve in the primitive act of wife battery just to convince you that he controls his family. If you doubt that he controls Nigeria, then try something treasonable.

Prayer heard & opportunity to stamp out corruption in NG,

Pse let any one call Ribadu's name with RESPECT. He Ribadu did a good job, risked his life for the nation
If Ya Yaduah had built on Ribadu's foot print. Nigeria wouldn't have been same today. (Ribadu..)
He said the movement and protests present an opportunity for Nigerians to renew their fight to eliminate corruption from their country.
“This is a truly divine deal of much prayers. The President is not a bad person. He shares the pain of the masses/nation. no doubt about that. But notwithstanding, though he didn't cos the pain. It will be wise to demand end of corruption, by asking for full power to the EFCC, a call to do away the Judges that r protecting the Looters, Stop constitutional Allowances and investigate those already paid. the CBN to begin a drastic action on debtors, and call the looter to refund immediately. The demonstration is a big chance for Nigeria to regain her pride, God bless Nigeria.

@KENETH : Jonathan is a corrupt man !

@KENETH
It is shameful a level a man would go to lie. If you google ribadu, the first things that comes up is this link .

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nuhu_Ribadu

But since the info that comes up in that link and others did add up to your hearsay, u needed to manufacture one. If you look at all the three points u mentioned in your submission; it is all he was accused. So the question is, in your world, does accusation become conviction? And who are the accusers other than the iboris, alameigsia and other govs that were convicted. Mention just one govt. official who has confronted corruption like Ribadu did since 1999? Did Sanusi Lamido not confirm the $15m bribe Ibori offered Ribadu is at the CBN ? People like you would kill your mother if offered just $10k and yet you open your mouth to disparage the man with no proof just because your kinsman is now the President who can't even control his wife talkless of controlling corruption.

PROTEST INDEED

Corruption will forever be tolorated in Nigeria because it is only on fuel price hike we react. We accept $ tolerate every ills of the public office holders in Nigeria from time being. It has shown that if not for the pms subsidy removal, there wouldn't have been reactions. What about the rest?

ROAD TO EGYPT

My fervant wish is for Nigerians to extend the ongoing movement beyound subsidy.All we need is to maintain d same level of committment and unity and have Nigeria version of Arab spring in order to march these looters to H E L L like the Mubarak, and Gadafis.

RE: SO MANY MAD PEOPLE

Aina, it is quite obvious who between the two of us has no gray matter upstairs. I am advocating that all corrupt public officers be held accountable for their rape of the nation and you are questioning that. Is it because the truth about everybody will come out? Are you afraid that your idol will turn out not to be the "Mr. Clean" he is portrayed to be.If you have nothing to hide, why would you be against everybody being investigated? You need more than a trip to a psychiatric institution for ever dreaming that certain people who actively participated in ruining this country should be left to get away with what they stole. That will not happen.A thief remains a thief no matter whose brother he may be and deserves the same punishment like another in the same trade.

TUNDEMASH AND BENJANI ON NUHU RIBADU

Tunde, based on your advice I googled and found the following on our man:
1) that he was accused of corruption for having not declared his assets while in office,
2)he was accused of having bought choice properties in Leeds, Chelsea,Dubai and Abuja,

3)assisting members of his family to buy houses confiscated from equally corrupt public officers.
Why in your opinion should the physician not first heal himself? I found nothing on his asylum status and which country granted him one. Accusations of corruption are flying about and it is only appropriate that all those who are accused be investigated so that the truth will come out.
Benjani, I suggest you read my post again. I said and still say that every corrupt public officer both past and present accused of corruption must be investigated. I do not see where anybody or group of persons was excluded.There should be no selective investigation leading to some corrupt officials being spared b'cos they play to the gallery.

THank you Aina!

Thank you Aina, I feel disappointed by my fellow countrymen who can't be objective in their argument. I try to understand what their point is, but got lost. But you brought me back on track. From their comments, it is obvious why the FOI bill has not being fully integrated into the Nigeria's system. May GOD help us "Generation next"

@Deri Re: Was obj not the oil minister

@deri
U claim "Was obj not the oil minister during his tenure? what did u people do while he was there-"

You apparently suffer memory loss. The greatest critic and opposition OBJ had was from the Southwest. Go check who took him to court on the dual role of President/oil minister. Go check who was against him on 3rd term, Siemens and Haliburton corruption issue. Go check who stood up for Atiku in his troubles with OBJ; it was the SouthWest and it was based on equity and fair play. Go check who stood up for Jonathan when the moron was being harassed by Turai just 2 years ago; it was the Southwest. You and other AGIP (Any Govt In Power)were busy supporting a walking dead man should continue to govern the living just like you are now saying an animal should continue to govern human beings. For you and other idiots like Stanley Igwe and Ifeanyi, it is all about your stomach. Just as the dark forces failed 2 years ago so shall you fail this year too.

NIGERIA'S PROBLEM IS SECTIONALISM.

@KENETH:
I am not from Ribadu's state, neither am I from his tribe. But when I see some racists exhibiting their primodal tribalism, I try to out shed lights on the issue.
You want Ribadu investigated? Good! Why aren't you asking same for Babangida, Odili, Obasanjo, Kalu, Bankole, Ogbulafor, Uba, Osuji, Atiku, Rufai and Jonathan? You are crying of paper cut when you are terminally ill with cancer.
Ribadu works for Afghan government, he gets paid to speak at seminars in Europe and in the US.

MOST OF YOU ARE IMBECILES.

When you hire someone to do some work for you, the work is done according to your rules and specifications. Obasanjo hired Ribadu and not the other way around. Farida did what Yar'Adua/Jonathan wanted. Andoaka did whatever Yar'Adua asked him to do. And right now, Adoki is doing exactly what Jonathan wants.
When it comes to fighting corruptions, no official past or present come close to Ribadu. Proof me wrong and name names. The last two IGs Okiro and Onovo were a disgrace to the Nigeria Police Force.
Unfortunately, here you have these ignorant FOOLS open their mouths talking rubbish.
Most of you don't even realize that the country is collapsing, If Jonathan with his PhD have just 1/10th of Ribadu's will power, the current imbroglio would've been averted.

Ribadu is one of the few

Ribadu is one of the few decent Politicians who has what it takes to fight corruption nd deliver Nigerians from the shackles of selfseeking leaders.You are indeed a product of our brighter future.

@KENETH: Re: THE CALL BY NUHU RIBADU

@KENETH
U claim "he call by Ribadu is very significant for after his flight from Nigeria the ex-anti corruption czar sojourned abroad for quite a while. It will be interesting to know how a man who was in the public service, where the income is very limited and predictable, was able to finance his stay abroad for that length of time. Ribadu is a candidate for the anti corruption investigation."

When u don't know u ask instead of castigating. I know some Nigerians have short memory. When your PDP nest of killers (ibori angle) were out for him when Yaradua got to power, he went on asylum. If you are granted asylum abroad (and Ribadu was high profile), the Govt. of those countries grant you some benefits. In addition he was able to secure scholarship to study while there and was paid to deliver papers at symposiums around the world. Recently UN actually gave him a job in Afghanistan. Ignorance is no more an excuse in 21st century, use google when u are in doubt.

@Deri and Stanley Igwe: Re: @stan, kudos to u

@Deri and Stanley Igwe

Fools parting each other on the back. Keep trying to outdo each other in the act of sycophancy. There is always an end to falsehood.

Just like the two of you, we have had Abacha scrumbags, OBJ scrumbags and Yaradua scrumbags on this forum and yet each time, truth triumph over falsehood and they disappear into oblivion after their 15 mins of fame. It is sooner for you two than ever !!! The only reason you are still being tolerated is you will be useful in helping to courier that animal back to the zoo when he's caged !

@Deri and Stanley Igwe Re: Is it not clear, you two are foolish

@Deri and Stanley Igwe
We asked the idiots if it is not insane for Jonathan to feed his family with N1b of Nigeria's in a year, they dodge the question. Where were u when Turai was dealing with that moron while Tunde Bakare was sweating to rescue the coward from the clutches of Turai; bloody ingrates. Mention Turai now, Jonathan would be shaking !!!
They query why Ribadu did not join NCP but did not see anything wrong in Jonathan being in PDP. They query why an unelected Ribadu did not disclose his assets but see nothing wrong in an elected Jonathan NOT declaring his assets. What a bunch of lunatics. Even the hallucinating Stanley claims he's giving me sleepless night ? what a joke ? Go read Chika and get educated . http://saharareporters.com/article/it-not-about-n65-chika-ezeanya Everyone is protesting for 5 days now against this fool and yet u keep pretending all is well. Go ask IBB; it was from "validate June 12" to "IBB must go" !!

Well Said

Just like the rest of us, Ribadu is not perfect but he has contributed his quota to the dev of this country and i score him above average. He's even ready to do more.

The question you should ask yourself is: If i am in a position of authority 2day, what would i do?

Answer yourself honestly.

To those of you paid to come & defend govt here, well you have sold your patrimony for coins and shame unto you.

corruption

seriously, do you all think you're going to make a change by posting here? get off your azzes and do something.

there is nothing to feaar but fear itself"

wimps

Was obj not the oil minister

Was obj not the oil minister during his tenure? what did u people do while he was there-go and probe all the malams who passed through the oil ministry for us to see-maduekes job in the oil ministry benefitted her inlaws in the south east-more than the ijaws in the south south so bazz off with yr lies. That is why we call for the counry to be split--we shall not rest until we achieve our objectives-enough of the rubbish

GOODLUCK IS UNFIT TO FIGHT CORRUPTION!

This is no longer an issue of #65 Oil subsidy palaver but about corruption. Goodluck cannot fight corruption.

'On April 7, 2010, a day after her appointment as minister for petroleum resources, Diezani Allison-Madueke flew to Beverley Hills in Los Angeles to revel..'

'By the time the bejewelled Mrs Alison-Madueke returned home a few days later to assume duties as Nigeria's first female oil minister, she had.. handed Mr Aire an invitation to become one of Nigeria's biggest crude oil lifters.'

'As the minister was flying home, Mr Aire also kick-started the process of registering brand new companies with which he planned to lift Nigerian crude. On July 9, 2010, the jeweller incorporated Siseno Oil Nigeria Limited, with him and one Patience...'

PATIENCE, ADOKE, OKONJO, DIEDZANI and who next?
They are too close to Goodluck for comfort.

HOPE.

ONLY SINCERE DEAL SUCCEED.

Ribadu is an individual

People that are castigating Ribadu are unconscious agents of the corrupt leaders. Ribadu risked his life fighting corrupt people, including Tinumbu. But, Ribadu is not the court to find them guilty. After the exits of Ribadu, what progress have we made on fighting corruption? GEJ that you all voted for out of sentiment is yet to show seriousness in the fight against corruption.
As per the party Ribadu joined, which party is void of corrupt people in Nigeria? No one, not even Buhari's party. Buhari is just an individual, Tinumbu is an idividual so also Ribadu. None of them could single handedly take Nigeria out of corruption. Go and see what is happening in the state being governed by Buhari's party and compare what you see with the state being governed by ACN. Stop being sentimental, Ribadu has what it takes to wage war against corruption.

Vampires Indeed

I am very sure that one Highly Respectable Prophet from kafanchan WARNED GEJ face to face to beware of "Vultures surrounding him, otherwise the Vultures will eat up the entrails of Nigeria and consume the glory of GEJ to the extent that he might end up as the worst President in the history of Nigeria and he will not be remembered at all for good. This is being confirmed. The same prophet warned him that if he does not deal with these vultures he might not conclude his tenure!

So many MAD People

There so many many mad people responding here. Deri, Kenneth, Austin Onuah etc, that one wonder if they have any grey cells upstairs. Corruption has killed this country, and these idiots are helping them. U beta stop or God's wrath ll be on u.

Re: strike action

I think we should go beyond calling for reduction of fuel prices but lets find out allowances of cashcow ministries & public officers. It is unfortunate that some management staff in NNPC and other cashcow ministries take as housing about 20m as yearly housing while ministers and M.Ps earn as high as 50m p.a with other bogus allowances. Let revenue allocation commission tell us how much approved and how much is being paid. Labour has these facts and should fight same now. All nigerians must ask questions on implementation of budget.

Chukwuma

@stan, kudos to u -tundemash is just an empty vessel 4 buhari

For late chief Gani, whom we ditched for OBJ and who sold Ribadu to us, nobody would have considered him as a man worthy of a glance from even an Agbero on the streets of Mushin. Ribadu has no conscience. A thief who is supposed to spend the rest of his life in jail, for stealing 20b from Balogun his former boss. A man who neither declared his assets nor could account for his stewardship in EFCC. Ribadu it was who threatened to deal with Iwu, if he dares to register Atiku to contest against OBJ. Regardless of his short comings, Iwu ex INEC chair, stood by Atiku. Ribadu like Owei Lakemfa, Tinubu and Buhari led protest for regime change, is only trying to test the murky waters of his past failures in ACN. A fraudster who attempted to lie his way through the PSC. One thing I credit Ribadu with, is his use of the media. Fulanis like Ribadu, El Rufai, Sanusi and buhari, knows how to handle the media in 9ja. Ribadu is not clean, that is why he cld not team up with NCP.

tundemash is as confused as his disgraced ribadu

THE CALL BY NUHU RIBADU

I agree entirely with all those who advocate that all corrupt public officers, past and present, should be held accountable for their criminal enterprises and empires.The call by Ribadu is very significant for after his flight from Nigeria the ex-anti corruption czar sojourned abroad for quite a while. It will be interesting to know how a man who was in the public service, where the income is very limited and predictable, was able to finance his stay abroad for that length of time. You did well GEJ

Even though Prez. Goodluck may not be the most powerful president, I HIGHLY COMMEND him for his Democratic Spirit of promoting freedom of Speech and emotional expessions "as seen for the past 6days with Occupy Nigeria protest".
