Petition Alleges Lagos High Court Judge Attacked Clerk, Drew Blood

Justice Rita Ofili-Ajumogobia

Justice Rita Ofili-Ajumogobia sits at the Federal High Court in Lagos, armed with the laws of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

But she is also armed with a different set of laws, one that permits her to be accuser, judge, jury and executioner.  They may be called The Laws of Justice Rita, a point she proved last month as she brutally attacked a clerical officer attached to her office.

The incident was well known to the media, but lacking concrete evidence, nobody could report it. Now the Nigeria media is awash with the story, as a formal petition has been filed with the Chief Judge of the Federal High Court, Justice Ibrahim Auta, detailing how the incident occurred.

The name of the victim is Israel Okodugha, and the petition was filed by his father, S.O. Okodugha.

On that fateful day, and unknowing he was about to become a painful public demonstration of The Laws of Rita, he went to Ofili-Ajumogobia's chambers at about 4:15p.m. to inform her that he wished to accompany the staff bus home since the money on him was insufficient to carry him to his home that evening by public transport.

"In the presence of female students, his lordship got up from the seat, went to Israel,  grabbed his ears with her nails, pulled on them, in the process, inflicted pains on the ears and wound on the back of his left ear,” Okodugha’s complaint, dated June 11, said.  “He bled on the ear to the house that night. We have to take him to a nearby pharmacy to give him analgesics after washing the wound with antiseptics."

Continuing, Okodugha alleged a different dimension to the respected judge: "Before the incident, our son Israel, has been one of the staff his lordship uses as house keeper to scrub the toilet, wash the clothes and sweep and clean the house during official hours and even on weekends under instructions until Israel told his lordship that he had studies he had to attend on weekends."

The petition, a copy of which was obtained by Daily Independent on Tuesday, was copied the most senior judge in the Lagos division of Federal High Court, Justice James Tsoho and both the Chief Registrar and Deputy Chief Registrar in charge of Administration at Lagos division of the court.

So far, no word has been heard from Justice Auta about the complaint.

The paper that published the report can be sued based on the totally unsubstantiated figment of the imagination report bereft of fact, evidence and corroboration.
How on earth does the father of the Clerk (who presumably is an adult) go ahead to petition the Chief Judge ? What is his locus ? The father appears to be an imbecile (no wonder the ears of his apparently also imbecilic child was "allegedly" pulled !
Imagine his petition:
(I, Imbecile snr, the father of imbecile jnr, do hereby swear that I am duly informed by my son, imbecile jnr -18+ yrs and who works in the Federal High Court, and I do believe, that his ears were pulled by Justice Ajumogobia, an act which occasioned injury to his person........." LoL

As for the above Akpos1 who can't even spell Agip (ajip) you need to have your ears pulled too as "Castration" tends mostly to be reserved for the male species.

And, dear Julius, you "bestow" honours not "bestore"

does anybody expect this high

does anybody expect this high court judge to be punished because of a clerk?
don`t expect anything to come out of this, the nigerian judiciary will look after it`s own.

Castrate her. Pure & Simple

This is just the same circle of oppression that begins when Mobil. Chevro, ajip & other stupid & useless oil companies drill my oil & pollute my ecology.

I therefore recommend that she be Castrated! Pure & Simple.

Man know thyself.

apart from all said and done to our legal luminary lady,it all boils down to our environmental flaws to adequately churn out best brains with the right mindset whose training and tutelage entails emotional intelligence and neuro-linguistic program encryption innately enmeshed in their mind at the subconscious level that direct their steps, words and actions towards our fellow human being, don't forget she has flesh and blood running in her veins, and to err they say is human,to forgive is divine, she be corrected in a more appropriate way,by the authority that be,or else she will face Job's judgment.Thanks.

REPORT OF ASSAULT ON COURT CLERK

Please let us have the view of the learned judge before we pass our judgements. It is possible that she uses or desires to use the man for "other assignments" which she cannot freely express. Give her a benefit of doubt; let us hear our own side of the story, PLEASE

Holes in the story!

In my view, there are holes in the story told in the petition. The junior officer asked permission to leave, then the judge just got up and began to pull his ear until it bled. Only someone of unbalanced mind in the judge's position would do that! What happened at the interval between the request to leave and the pulling of this person's ear? Was the request unacceptable in the establishment? Had the staff been warned earlier against such a request when his boss had not left office? There is a big hole there. In any case, this is not to suggest that the judge should have done such act. The background event where the junior staff stopped playing the role of a domestic servant could have also been a simmering event in the whole process. There are witnesses and their accounts would help to piece all events together.

HER IMPERIAL MAJESTY.....HER

HER IMPERIAL MAJESTY.....HER LORDHSIP .....RITA AJUMOGOBIA......

Are judges not said to be next to God? Is Mrs. Ajumogobia not just acting the script.....U go challenge me?

Indecent act

Do not blame her. blame the system that made her a judge. It seems judges are not selected on merit for promotion

High court judge attacked clerk

Did he have some pictures? Or he forgot evidence? What of witnesses? I wonder why our reporters conclude on cases that have not been tried. Nothing like "allege, assert, claim". The reporter just went straight reporting, "...a point she proved last month as she brutally attacked a clerical officer attached to her office". Reporter, were you there? Do you have a proof. I don't know the judge in question but we must not rush to conclusions withour proof. This looks like Nigerian reporting style. The other day it was the former deputy governor of Lagos state who was condemned before the facts. The title, "petition alleges" was okay if the rest of the story followed it.

incompetence at its peak

When you cannot make an intellectual argument, what you do as a Judge in Nigeria is to physical assault the people that work with and around you. I do not know how low-class fools like this woman find themselves into our courts, but she should be punished for such shameful outburst, whatever that will entail. She is an utter disgrace to the legal profession and Nigerians, including the women-folk, should be very ashamed of this woman. Again, she is a disgrace and should be demoted. We need to set very high standards in our courts and clearly, people like this tout do not belong there.

Judge Rita Ajumogobia may lack temperament for the job

No presumption of innocence works anymore in favour of Nigeria's judicial officers who are rather seen as too morally wretched to deserve a benefit of the doubt; as mostly bogged in bribes to know right from wrong.

Even then for what it is worth,it seems better to allow Justice Rita Ajumogobia explain why she did what she's alleged to have done.

At any rate, she is liable to be sued civilly for battery since she has no judicial immunity. A sane country would have taken Judge Rita Ajumogobia into custody by now for criminal processing as well, to stand trial on indictment for criminal assault.
