IGP. Since you resume office as the inspector general of police. The welfare of police become paralized. We can not even get our salary as at when due at least 26th/27th of the month as your predecessor did, when you are a junior officer under Tafa, ehidero, okiro, onofo and ringim, you do get your salary early, but now that you became IGP, you sat on peoples salary because you want it to yield more interest for you, CIVIL defence ar now geting their salary before NPF aswel as geting a better welfare package, as at 3rd of june, WE NPF have not receive may salary, pls pay our salary early so that we can settle our debtors without shame. God bless you, IGP Abubakar if you are truelly working at ridding insecurity problems in Nigeria. However, if its just a charade, God will surely deal with you. So far you have demonstrated some seriousness and I think you mean well, especially with your guys off the road, Kudos! I don't know how you are able to achieve this with the corrupt men that you have! but they are gradually finding thier way back. As for the number, its a good start, at least a way to bypass the coniving DPO's. However still, Nigeria deserves a responsive Police Call Centre to respond to distress calls... If you could do this, it would be a great achievement and add to your credibilty. Wish you well in your quest.

This man amused me when he gave out his cell number for people to call when they have security or corruption problem involving the Nigerian Police. The first question that came to my mind was, the number of calls this guy can take in one day, judging from the wanton corruption in the Police on daily bases and in a country of over 150 million people. Well I quickly let that thought go since I knew it was coming from a Nigerian official, knowing very well that most of their actions are based on self aggrandizement and ego. In a civilized and well organized system, the IGP would set up hotlines and call centers where calls are received, recorded, analyzed and channeled for follow-up. Brainless fools in positions.

Good intention? I am not quite sure

One thing that is clear is that this sysytem is not used anywhere in the world. It wount work at micro level, talk less at National level. If , for instance a school principal would tell all students who have problem to contact him directly, it would produce absolutely useless result.

It appears to be a Crude form of PR directed at Almajiris, not educated Nigerians who understand that it is useless.

If he is serious, he should find his men who were supposed to prevent the massacre last week-end and expose and punish them. I mean the real people, the jihadists who allowed or even participated in the killings

I had the number from the very first time he published it, when I saw policemen re-mounting check point inside our streets to "checking papers of vehicles only" in order to extort money from vehicle owners - when they were meant to at least make other searches; which they ignored (since its not lucrative)the IG or whoever he put in charge refused to even acknowledge the receipt of my sms or send me a reply. I am a citizen and if I could take the pains of sending an sms, i should get to know what I need to know. So, its not just publishing the number but actually acting to our distress sms.

We appreciate the zeal of the IG himself to contain crime in this country. But that phone No. will be busy all day and may not be easily reached.

May I suggest that he starts with the divisions, area commands, commissioners, Zonal commanders, before getting to the Ig. He will do nothing else but answer calls for the rest of his tenure.

He should set up a unit to be headed by a senior police officer which he can then monitor. The unit will handle such complaints.

Are you aware of the previous efforts of the IGP? since his appointment he has demonstrated unprecedented attention and dedication to his duties as IGP. Whilst he may not have deployed the best possible solution to some of the problems confronting the Nigeria Police, he has done much more in a few months than most of his predecessors put together. I dont think any one expect this move of the IGP to resolve all the issues confronting the Police service but give credit where its due and to whom its due IGP Abubakar started well and is doing well so far. Though he can do better.

This is profoundly pleasant but the IGP should please get the same thing done at the entire hierarchy of the Police including those manning each Police Station and Police Posts in Nigeria. Also there should be a national known number eg 911 as in the USA for emergency use by citizens as a first call-point. The presumption is those officers who would respond to such calls would be richly trained squad with knowledge of first aid, cpr, and emergency response in general. Let's protect live and property of Nigerians and treat ourselves as human beings.
