President Jonathan Commissions Bullet-proof Vest Factory

By SaharaReporters, New York

President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan today in Kaduna commissioned a bullet-proof vest production factory at the Defence Industry Corporation of Nigeria (DICON).

According to a statement from the presidency, the project was undertaken as a Public Private Partnership (PPP) between DICON and MAROM-DOLPHIN Nigeria Limited.  The factory will produce bullet-proof vests and other textile wares for the Nigerian Armed Forces and other security agencies in the country.

The event, President Jonathan noted, signaled that the "nation's military establishment has effectively keyed into the Federal Government's Local Content Policy which is aimed at building indigenous capacity in the petroleum and other sectors of the national economy," said the statement.

“While urging all Nigerians to show patriotism by buying DICON products, President Jonathan indicated that a directive would soon be issued to compel all Federal agencies to patronize DICON unless they can prove convincingly that such products are not available locally,” it also said.

DICON was established by an Act of Parliament in 1964 to primarily "produce small arms and ammunitions for the use of the Nigerian Army, paramilitary and security agencies in the country."

goat head

what are you laughing at , goat head ?

For those of you complaining

For those of you complaining about the achievement of the "BulletProof", and those buring GEJ before his death, one thing I have 4 you KEEP QUIET enemy of progress. - Britain this, America that - it took them many years to reach this plight. So pray 4 Nigeria to progress instead of damaging the pride of the country.

This is commendable

Nigerians have become so cynical that even modest efforts in the right direction are taken with a pinch of salt. This is quite understandable given common denominator of greed, corruption and mediocrity that has become the lot of public and private life.

However, I must commend the military for remaining undaunted and progressive in the face of debilitating circumstances. The other day, it was the Navy. Now it is the Army. I am proud of them.

Thumbs up to you guys!

I dey laugh

I dey laugh ooooooooooooooooooooooo

BULLET WHAT?

Bullet what?
The basic problems in Nig. to me is not even security, but that of not having factors of production in place.
Factors of production includes electricity, good roads, water, raw materials, transportation etc.
Let the Government provide these infrastructures and every other things will fall in place.
There will surely be less unemployment, armed robbers, boko haram or delta boys, etc and even the bullet proof factories can be built by individuals.
Surely our leaders don't even know what the problems are, anyway, producing the vest with DIESEL will not make it competitive in the market and the company will die like other small scale business.

WHAT IS GEJ UP TO?

your president was angry some sundays ago for he was askd to publicly declare his assets. He went further to sack d minister of defence and his NSA.The president thru his new NSA went to Borno & Yobe States to promise cease fire b4 ramadan fastn period. Now he went to commission BULLETPROOF VEST factory. Is he tryn to kit every1 in those 2 states for the upcomin event of WAR or is he kitin HIMSELF against them?

The President Commissions

Why everyone has right to his/her opinion, it is unnecessary grandstanding to take pleasure in abusing the president for everything he does. If we now produce bulletproof vests locally, we would need not spend scarce forex importing them. Also, jobs can be created by exporting our productions. The commissioning is the first in the history of a company created since 1964 and yet Nigerians (ACN & CPC members will never see anything good in Jonathan. We advise you guys, wait for your time and we will see how you will govern your family.

manufacturing bulletproof vest.

What we should be concerned here in this are the class of people to be employed in that factory, just hope that its not going to be a bleeding and training ground for attckers instead defenders.

Jonathan commisioning bullet proof industry

Yeye de smeel! No food, no electricity, no job, no hospital, university has be turned to university of cultism.
It is only Aso rocks that works in Nigeria and nothing else! Government has used the instrument of hunger and deprivation to manipulate the minds of nigerians to the extent that they don't even know the difference between good and bad.
Uncle Jona is a big clown!
SHAME ON NIGERIA!

@edunwodo

Tell us one good thing that has come out of that your so called country. You don't jump the gun in nation building. A government that cannot boast of a 5 km of potholes free road. A country that cannot generate electricity for households, not to mention generating electricity for commercial consumption. My friend, the list is too long. You need to travel out for once and your eyes will be open. I would suggest you try a nearby country like Ghana. Nigeria stinks, it is a heaven for looters.

Be Mindful To Whom Sell It To.

YeS, you have done commissioning, to who do you sell these to?

Anonymous (Underwhelming)

It is a pity how Nigerians will castigate their own country, blame everyone else for their problems except themselves. How about you and me as part of Nigeria's problem. Do you think because you are abroad or has got an European or American citizenship that you are no longer Nigerian? Are 100% accepted as a citizen of that country? What have you done to improve things yourself. Literate or educated people know not to use foul languages on others. Security is currently Nigeria's biggest treat, why should anyone castigate an effort towards improving our security? How do some people already know the quality of the bulletproof vests without even seeing it.

VERY TRUE

What you just pointed out is the fact, but how many Nigerians know what it is, i have seen all the military and DSS issued vest they all are Level II, its the heights of scam in Nigeria's history this business of providing security, but tell it on such a forum and you'll find just sentimental about you trying to smear the name of Saint Jonah. i wouldn't where it even if it comes with a million buck bonus

Rubblish

This is absolute rubblish,Jonathan should commission more of food industries, high tech industries than bullet proof industry.Nigeria should invest on what it is commonly affortable for general public and what can give mass employment to the people than commissioning of bullet proof industry which will in the end, ends into the hands of this politicans, the rich and the armed robbers to protect themselves.Tighten fire arms laws and extra control on our borders post for ilegal importation of weapons, creats special units to combat crimes and armed them to the tooth, if the police are not ready to do it.That is what we need than that rubblish.

Ballistic chart

I'm with you on this one Jamba, I think I've read something of similar nature once upon a time. LoL @ Snow Job.

U BE REAL JAMBA

ABEG WHERE CAN I GET THE TYPE IV VEST THAT WILL COVER NOT ONLY MY CHEST BUT AT LEAST UP TO MY WETIN CALL.......BECAUSE THAT ONE TOO NA LIFE.
IN THIS BOKO HARAM, ARMED ROBBERS AND POLICE STRAY BULLETS, DON'T YOU THINK EACH PERSON NEEDS ONE?

Pres. Jonathan Commissions Bullet-proof Vest Factory, SO WHAT?

THE NIGERIAN LEADERS (PAST AND PRESENT) SHOULD BE ASHAMED OF THIS INSTEAD OF APPLAUSE. AT ITS AGE DICON SHOULD HAVE GONE BEYOND MANUFACTURE OF VEST (ANY GOOD TAILOR CAN DO IT).

DICON WAS CREATED AT THE SAME TIME WITH THE BRAZILLIAN DEFENCE INDUSTRIES...........TODAY DICON LATEST ACHIEVEMENT IS THE MANUFACTURE OF BULLET PROOF VEST WHILE SINCE THE 70s THE BRAZILLIAN COUNTERPART HAS BEEN PRODUCING THE EMBRAER JETS.............WHAT A SHAME

Na vest we go chop? Abeg

Na vest we go chop? Abeg build road and restore the crumbling infrastructure in naija. Biko

massage

God save us

Bulletproof Made by Looters for Looters

When the time comes, no bulletproof will shield you looters. If you like commission 1 million bulletproof factories.

Primitive president, naive followers

Why not commission a death proof accident road rather that spending your time commissioning a factory that will close very soon? DICON management should spend their money on breeding bomb sniffing dogs.

Let's test it on pres Jonathan if he's sure its safe,419 project

We want to test it on Jonathan first,he's the
Most useless nigerian alive for now.

WE ARE NOW IN JUNLY

Can someone remind our clue less president he promised to end B/H regime in June..... I dey Laff oooo
