Pro-subsidy Protester Gunned Down By Police In Ilorin

Muyideen Mustapha was killed by the police in Ilorin during the pro-subsidyprotest
By SaharaReporters, New York

The growing nationwide protest against President Goodluck Jonathan's hiking of petroleum prices claimed its first casualty today as police shot a protester dead in Ilorin, Kwara State.

The lifeless body of the protester lay on the street after he was shot in the chest by a policeman.

The killing comes on the heels of the release of a former member of the House of Representatives, Dino Melaye, along with two others who were arrested by the police in Abuja yesterday for organizing the first anti-fuel hike protest in the federal capital.

Dino stated that some 13 people were arrested with him, but he vowed to continue to oppose the new policy, and promised the “mother of all rallies” in Abuja very soon. Dino was released after the Inspector General of Police made him speak with President Goodluck Jonathan.

Re: @msb..,what is the difference?

@Ifeanyi-Democracy $eva: what is the difference? The difference is that this government will steal all the proceeds accruing from the removal of fuel subsidy. Remember what Yarádua left in the nations foreign reserve, what remains now? This drunkard has allowed kleptomaniacs to squander that huge amount making us to go a borrowing. This is the only reason why they want to remove the subsidy because there is nothing left to run the government...period.

government most do something about the killing of my brother

you see now what we are into in this country.......violence everywhere ...now my brother muyyideen is gone and not only him, many are gone just becos of the actions of Nigerian government.......many have sacrifice dia lives before for us to live in peace and have a great nation!!!!!! please nigerian government should answer this question '' hwhy are we still dying

fuel subsidy

the whole system of subsidy was flawed and corrupt, in the long run nigerians will be better offf without it.

@msb has failed in his comment

This story you reeled out seemed it was written for you. I always tell people that our major problem is not the action and inaction of Government but inability to say the truth. If we do not call a spade a spade we are going no where. Lets continue in this mode and see what will happen. If the country breaks up (God forbid) no region will suffer unless they do not understand the gifts God bestows them. What are we talking about that shook your head to the wrong direction. Please go and sleep if you have nothing to offer us.

ride on my broda..

ride on my broda..

@msb..,what is the difference?

There isnt much difference between what you reeled out and my earlier comments. Just that I made a mistake in my calculation of percentages. Just like you highlighted, IBB handed over to Shonekan in 1993. Shonekan increased fuel price from 70 kobo per litre to N5 per litre in 1993, an increase of about 600%. Later same year, Abacha toppled Shonekan. Abacha then increased fuel price further to N11 per litre, in 1994, an increament of about a 100%. Thus making a total percentage increment of 700% ( instead of 900% in my earlier comment) within a year or so. My point really is that if Buhari did not see anything wrong in fuel price increase by 700% within a year in 1994, why did he and his party term the increase of fuel price by President Jonathan by 120% in 5yrs (no increment since 2007) DECLARATION OF WAR on the Nigerian people. Is that not pure HYPOCRISY? Buhari went ahead to manage the proceeds from that MURDEROUS increment under the PTF.

Re: Nigerian criminals

Wao! That is interesting! I'd always thought Indians are Masters in this act. These guys must be geniuses. We must bring them home and re-direct their intelligence to positive things. We need them here at home. Who knows? We may have a potential Nobel Prize winner among them!

Yes, Correct Mumu!!!

I doubt much if Ifeanyi is following history.

let's try Arab way....

Nigerians most wake up from their sleeping and fight for their right themselves.
We should not expect other people from different parts of the world to come down here and fight for our right.
Let's take a lesson from Arab, they fought for their right without fear of killing or any harassment.
Muyiddeen, may your gentle soul rest in a perfect peace , you were killed just because fight for your right. ....

CLEAN UP YOUR CLOSET,YOU BREATH FRESH AIR.

The energy apportioned for protest against FUEL SUBSIDY REMOVAL,should be streamlined to bring sanity to your work places and offices. Fighting Corruption is the best and only way that fuel subsidy removal can make a meaning. NLC,TUC,NANS , Civil and public servants. Private business owners and even the masses should first of remove the filthiness on their desks before removing Jonathans own. Meanwhile our thoughts ,actions and energy should be directed towards supporting the government of the day for desired positive changes. Nigeria shall be great. Evangelist Odogbor udume vincent

Jonathan will soon employ

Jonathan will soon employ tinubu tactics by bringing somebody that look like the innocent soul killed in ilorin, will give the man 10 miilion naira and asked him to recount the story that fanta was spilt on him on the floor when sleeping.Already some idiots did not believe sahara that a soul lost. How can a man killed by tinubu at the toll gate recounted that police did not shoot? He was only pushed down by friends and was alright now after 10 million bribe. Tinubu brought area bboys to distrupt the protest and he thougt he won. Time will tell. For me I will support the military.

nigerian criminals

ix Nigerians have been arrested in India for defrauding hundreds of people through text messages and emails.

According to news reports from India, the six Nigerians: Yoha Fred Jihan, 33; Tovy Evaka, 34; Yehike Enavhoro, 25; Amadin Jefferi, 31; Jarvis Nosa Lavani, 34; and Thiofelis Edemudia, 32, are in India on business visas.

HA HA ! WHY DON'T THE SENATORS EXPOSE THE REST!

At Long Last! Is it becos the senators were not involved in the chopping spree that they brought out the names? I do think that they should go a step further and bring out the names of the REAL OWNERS OF THESE COMPANIES: the Godfathers, top former military brass and politicians who are at the back of the oil subsidy theft since when oil was discovered in Nigeria and all the beneficiaries of the oil blocs e.g Danjuma who said that he had made so much money from it that he did not know what to do with it.Money stolen from Nigeria mind!
As for Bola Ahmed Tinubu, he has murdered sleep. His greed is astronomical. May he find no peace from here to eternity, nor his descendants after him. These people are murderers. In organised countries like China, they would have been executed for crimes against the people. That is why China is bouyant, developed and supplies the world while Nigeria is an international begger and scavenger.

HISTORY OF PETROL HIKES IN NIGERIA;
Gowon 6k to 9.5k, Gen. Obasanjo 9.5k to 15.3k, Sagari 15.3k, Buhari 15.3k, Babangida 15.3k to 70k, Shonekan 70k to N5, Abacha N5 to N11, Abdulsalam N11 to N20, Obasanjo N20 to N70, Yar'Adua N70 to N65, Jonathan N65 to N141.
I don't know where U got ur own analysis from. Shonekan increased it by almost 600%, Abacha was just 120%, Abdul salam less than 100% when our useless ota Gorilla whom I believe still control this PDP (People Deceiving party came in 1999 he increased gradually until it hits 350%. Yaradua (May his soul rest in peace) had pity on us and brought it back almost 10%. A continuation of Sanjo's rule led by ?luck is at it again 150% increase which I am not sure will stop on #150/litre. OBJ once said"I am not a president of unfinished project". Let wait and see where his project will led us too. I pray our great grand children will not even suffer for it if we don't retreat now. Our leaders/looters have mortgage Nigeria economy.

RESIGN NOW JONATHAN

Jonathan has proven that he is truly a member of Papa deceiving Pikin Party (PDP). He has chosen to show his true color that is beneath all that facade of `humble and shoeless` deception.
He said he was still consulting, he gave the go ahead to increase fuel price while consulting. He has proven he can NEVER be trusted and more importantly he was never deserving of the office from the very beginning. There is no way you can repackage a pig. He remains a pig.
He should just go!

JONATHAN SHOULD JUST GO!

Jonathan is a deceiver and a bare faced LIAR! In no sane society will such a liar be allowed to remain in the presidency. Impeachment process would have been commenced against him. He has deceived the whole nation and told lies to the same people he claimed voted for him.
He has by himself proven he was never worthy of that office he claimed he was voted to.
Go bloody liar!

Ifeanyi and Deri are now paranoid, I dey laf!

So you guys are now paranoid, and evidently overworked trying to keep up with a pacifist regimen to douse the tension..its too late. You see I always laughed when I read your posts.
Soory go and tell GEJ the revolution is finally here.

Even when you see the video

Even when you see the video been air CNN tells you unconfirmed pix Sahara will be in New York city and post a pix of man lying on the ground and want me to believe he was shot by police protesting subsidy. I should believe them and curse Jonathan. You guys are rot your fake press can't stop this ship sailing forward.

Why? Really? Well, the cost

Why? Really? Well, the cost of failure is too high.........this is not a football match @ which there'll be another chance to test new tactics.......this is real life

What are the ALTERNATIVES to Removal of Fuel Subsidy?

All sorts of proposition has been offered as alternatives to removal of subsidy.
Some have said fight corruption in the present subsidy regime and see if the cost of subsidy will reduce to N500 billion or so per yr. Good suggestion. But this is very difficult. Using an analogy of a COOK, a CONSUMER and a REFEREE all locked up in a room. Assuming the cook(importer of fuel) claimed he had cooked a meal with say N100, the consumer(general public) claims he ate the meal and referee(auditing firm) claims he witnessed how the meal was cooked and eaten by the consumer. And all emerged from the room HAPPY & the cook & referee SIGNED relevant documents to claim N100, how will an OUTSIDER know whether there was foul play? Each time the public buys fuel at N65, it means some marketers collected subsidy and brought in the product. How will you spot the marketers that do SHARP PRACTICES or divert products if all relevant documents are signed? Fighting corruption in this system is CHASING SHADOW
