Raw Copy : Obasanjo's historic Letter to President Goodluck Jonathan

Letterhead
By Saharareporters, New York

On 2nd December, this year, an apparently angry and frustrated ex-President Olusegun Obasanjo wrote to President Goodluck Jonathan, a letter that clearly competes as one of the most acerbic in modern history, accusing him of ineptitude and of taking actions calculated at destroying Nigeria.
“Nigeria is bleeding and the hemorrhage must be stopped,” Mr. Obasanjo said in the 18-page letter he titled “Before It Is Too Late” exclusively obtained by PREMIUM TIMES Tuesday.

He said Mr. Jonathan has failed to deliver on his promises to the Nigerian people, stem corruption, promote national unity and strengthen national security.
He said that rather than take steps to advance Nigeria’s interest and up the standards of living of Nigerians, Mr. Jonathan had betrayed God and the Nigerian people that brought him to power, and has been pursuing selfish personal and political interests based on advice he receives from “self-centred aides”.

OBJ

OBJ as former President, should not have written such a sensitive open letter to a sitting president. The contents of OBJ's letter are too sensitive to endanger national security, incite instability and violence. Obviously, OBJ is doing this for personal reasons, maybe as he becomes increasingly irrelevant to contemporary governance. A true leader - once leaves office should step out of the stage of national governance. OBJ as former president should know this and if he does not, a negative inference would be drawn to infer how incompetent he and his team are. Clearly, he is playing politics with national security.
Further more, President Jonathan should reflect on what legacy he wants to be remembered for. The question whether GEJ should run for a second term or not should be ratified by constitutional and judicial means rather than using or writing poisonous and sicking letter which could easily be interpreted as not leading by example.

Why was my response not published????

DEAR SAHARA REPORTERS,

I WANT TO KNOW Y MY RESPONSE TO OBJ'S LETTER TO GEJ NOT PUBLISHED BY YOU. IS THIS A CASE OF SELECTIVE TREATMENT???
MY RESPONSE WAS NOT AS NEGATIVELY BAD AS OTHERS WHICH YOU PUBLISH IN THIS FORUM.

The ex President OBJs letter

The ex President OBJs letter to President Goodluck Jonathan reveals what has been on since 18l6 before Buckingham Palace rigged the 1960 elections in favor of the North in order to milk, sap and destroy the black race from Nigeria. WE should support and rally round Dr. Jonathan to free us from this slavery instead of calling for his death which is not ideal and best thing to do. The Northern Oligarchy should realize that the much expected Mahdi ordained by Allah is walking physically on the planet now who is best placed to direct affairs and guide all. Peace unto you all.

THE WORSTNIGERIA HAS EVER HAD

Goodluck Ebele Jonathan is the worst thing to have ever happened to Nigeria.

OBASANJO'S letter to president Jonathan

Obasanjo is playing god. This is his last card.

Yes o!

THE TRUTH IS BITTER

Well said!! no matter what, the truth MUST be told….Lets ignore the source and act right based on it. If i may ask, why are those so called ‘men of repute’ keeping mute? The biblical Saul (persecutor of Christians) was converted to Paul (the evangelist). Listen to the WORD and let it transform us, and pay no attention to the SOURCE. Lets be WISE!!

Pls, let's focus on the positivity of our leaders rather.

Based on my personal look into the letter, I don't think there's anything wrong about the write-up nor the addressee's response to it; hence it is very constructive but the problem basically lies on the orientation of the general public and a lot of noise-making politicians in Naija.

OBJ as a concerned & caring father just wrote to GEJ as his responsive & responsible son, he pointed out, with a deep sense of imperative, some crucial areas of national concern with strong optimism that GEJ would, as usual, listen and consider the points involved & subsequently apply the necessary measures for the common good of both multi-ethinic Nigeria & Nigerians.

Now, why must numerous ignorant people whose common interest is to push the Nigerian system into mess, castigate our leaders & cause disunity among various political parties carry about rumors & vices that could end up creating some negative impressions about this great country.

So true. What is a First Lady

So true. What is a First Lady (whose suppose to run her family affair) doing in Rivers state...openly challenging an elected governor? What a flaw!

RE: OBJ's Letter to GEJ

During OBJ era, there are challenges here and there within the party but things weren't handled in this manner GEJ is going about it. How would the first go to Rivers State to dictate for the Governor? All these rubbish for me had made GEJ the most unworthy leader we have ever had.

RE: OBJ's Letter to GEJ

Let me give another example, Governor Babatunde Raji Fashola did condemned Stella Oduah's action for purchasing 2 armoured BMW cars at N255m all in the name of protection and that, that amount can buy 51 patrol vans. However, not too long he also purchased his own armoured Range Rovers or so at N610m. Now tell me, what do they need all that for? Who are they protecting themselves from? What bad have they all done that they feel someone will go after their lives. I have seen leaders of so many countries after or even when they are still in power go to shopping mall for one thing or the other. I don't think our leaders can do that. The singular reason is because they are not clean.

RE: OBJ's Letter to GEJ

I think it is high time we told the truth. For as many of you condemning OBJ, you should think twice. OBJ may not be a too much of good person but he plays a good leadership role most at times. OBJ has said a whole lot of truth and I don't think GEJ should shun or castigate. For instance, what does Stella Oduah needs "bullet proof" BMW for? Ever since the purchase of those cars which were not necessary, what role has GEJ played. Why is he covering her, must they set a panel of inquiry for cases like that. Supposing, any of us had gone to vandalize pipeline, or (PHCN) power installation, would the Nigerian Government have set any panel of inquiry? Let us call a spade a spade; the Nigerian Leaders are very corrupt. From the president down to local government chairmen are fucking corrupt and we should not all pretend about that.

LOOK AT THE MESSAGE AND APPRAISE THE MESSENGER

Alas u have all spoken well. Obasanjo is not a saint nor the messiah we are looking for, but remember the birth of messiah was foretold by prophets. Those who care should read OBJ's open letters to Heads of Nigeria govt btw 1988 and 1995. Remember when all seemed darkened during the last months of Yar'adua's rule, his dissent voice settled the matter. Nigerians shd put sentiments aside. On national issues Obasanjo will always laugh last. Mr. President u have done well as human being. There is no perfect person, but let us examine what Balogun Owu, Tambuwal, Sanusi Lamido Sanusi etal are saying. May the Good Lord help u. Aluta Continual.

MY TAKE ON THE CONTENTS OF THE SO CALLED LETTER!

LET ME BE BRIEF AND STRAIGHT TO THE POINT;THIS MAN HAS CLEARLY FORGOTTEN HOW HE DESPERATELY TRIED TO RUN FOR A THIRD TERM?
UNDER HIS GOVERNMENT,WAS NIGERIA FREE FROM CORRUPTION,BAD GOVERNANCE AND DIS-SERVICE TO THE PEOPLE?
CAN HE AND OTHER OLD ELDER STATES MEN IN THE COUNTRY LEARN SOMETHING FROM THE LIFE OF NELSON MANDELA AND HONOURABLY RETIRE FROM ACTIVE POLITICS?
CAN OBJ TELL NIGERIANS THAT HE HAS NOT BENEFITTED,ONE WAY OR THE OTHER FROM THE MISMANAGEMENT OF OUR RESOURCES,CORRUPTION,ETC????????????????/////

Mandela message to Nigeria during OBJ presidency - Part 3

“Let me tell you what I think you need to do. You should encourage leaders to emerge who will not confuse public office with sources of making personal wealth. Corrupt people do not make good leaders. Then you have to spend a lot of your resources for education. Educate children of the poor, so that they can get out of poverty. Poverty does not breed confidence. Only confident people can bring changes. Poor, uneducated people can also bring change, but it will be hijacked by the educated and the wealthy...give young Nigerians good education. Teach them the value of hard work and sacrifice, and discourage them from crimes which are destroying your image as a good people.”

(Excerpts taken from a 2007 interview with Mandela conducted by Dr Hakeem Baba-Ahmed

Mandela message to Nigeria during OBJ presidency - Part 2

“What do young Nigerians think about your leaders and their country and Africa? Do you teach them history? Do you have lessons on how your past leaders stood by us and gave us large amounts of money? You know I hear from Angolans and Mozambicans and Zimbabweans how your people opened their hearts and their homes to them. I was in prison then, but we know how your leaders punished western companies who supported Apartheid.
“What about the corruption and the crimes? Your elections are like wars. Now we hear that you cannot be president in Nigeria unless you are Muslim or Christian. Some people tell me your country may break up. Please don’t let it happen."

Mandela message to Nigeria during OBJ presidency - Part 1

"You know I am not very happy with Nigeria. I have made that very clear on many occasions. Yes, Nigeria stood by us more than any nation, but you let yourselves down, and Africa and the black race very badly. Your leaders have no respect for their people. They believe that their personal interests are the interests of the people. They take people’s resources and turn it into personal wealth. There is a level of poverty in Nigeria that should be unacceptable. I cannot understand why Nigerians are not more angry than they are."

scrambled opinion

- OBJ was also not a good leader.
TOO BAD,he's just FIGURED OUT how badly they marred Nigeria. OBJ he is not the IMPORTANT issue now -FACTS IN THAT LETTER must NOT BE IGNORED.

- AND YES, WE SHOULD DEVELOP our CULTURE OF VOTING: "AGREE OR DISAGREE" AS NIGERIANS- Comments don't show statistical conclusion.

- AND then CREATE A non political PLATFORM for it to be AIRED - regardless. "Numbers don't lie".

- VOTING DURING ELECTION REMAINS the POWER OF a WISE PEOPLE...before any other means.

Divided Nigeria is not bad

What is in this country that calls for unity except for the consistent looters, and corrupt politicians to stuff their pockets? I have said it else where, NO Nigerian leader, GEJ,OBJ etc can and would equal the selflessness and unflinching patriotism Mandela gave to South Africans. There is no sense in keeping to this so call unity of an entity just for the privileged politicians to keep enriching themselves. It is better to deal with all our anormaly piece meal as divided country.

OBJ's GEJ

- TOO BAD HE JUST FIGURED how bad THEY MARRED NIGERIA or he's just playing Games again.

- OBJ WAS ALSO NOT A GOOD LEADER. He is not the important issue now.

- The fact is TOO MANY ATROCITY PRESENTLY DURING GEJ'S GOV'T

- IMPORTANT FACTS BY OBJ MUST NOT BE IGNORED

- AND YES, LET'S CREATE a PLATFORM for UNANIMOUS DECISIONS TO BE AIRED! Regardless.

- The VOTE STILL REMAINS THE POWER OF THE PEOPLE BEFORE OTHER MEANS.

- MUCH EMOTION FROM MANY NIGERIAN COMMENTATORS WATERS DOWN MESSAGE BEING PASSED ACROSS.

A integrity and justice talk for a true Nigerian

That is very correct, most of us speak out of sentiment and that is not good for multi-ethnic nation like Nigeria. If OBJ has said something good accept the goodness and leave out is personality. God Bless Nigeria!

Frank Monson

is that to say you do not

is that to say you do not share the same concern expressed in OBJ's letter? Even a dumb can predict that GEJ so far is the greatest DISAPPOINTMENT of all time. I with members of my family stood in the line for 5 hours to vote for him (fresh air), he failed us and surrounded himself with the highest number of jobbers of all time. CORRUPTION is currently at a record high in Nigeria.

if GOOD LUCK EBERE JONATHAN comes back in 2015 Nigeria is DOOMED

OBASANJO SPOKE THE TRUTH 5

Many politicians who attracted Obasanjo’s anger include Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar; former Ogun State Governor, Otunba Gbenga Daniel; former Speaker Umar Gha’li Na’Abbah, former Senate President Anyim Pius Anyim; the late Senate President Pius Okadigbo, former PDP National Chairman, Chief Audu Ogbeh and even the late President Umaru Musa Yar’adua were not spared.
A friend called me last night after my first take on this old man to say ‘ Churchill please leave Obasanjo alone, the man is evil and very vindictive”. My reply. Let him go to hell. I will outlive this goon in Jesus’ Name.

OBASANJO SPOKE THE TRUTH 4

That GEJ is corrupt. Hehehe. OBJ has some of the best properties in Abuja, including the massive one opposite ECOWAS in Asokoro. He allocated billions to power and roads, zip result. He had his finger in the Halliburton pie, but made his PA who picked up the loot take the fall, has top choice schools, universitiesAll American Presidents put together don’t have a fraction of OBJ’s wealth. When he wanted to buy Man City , the owners snubbed him bcos they dint know his cash. He has no morals, allegedly screws his sons wives. The legend is :Obasanjo does not forgive. And he is happy because we always allow him play his sick game. Obasanjo has always had the last laugh they say. These two expressions have become aphorisms in the Nigerian political circle because of some antecedents
