Sack Prof. Rufai, Ondo State Students Beg President Jonathan

Students protest in Akure today

Students of tertiary institutions in Ondo State have called for the sack of the Minister of Education, Prof. Ruqquayatu Rufai, over the ongoingstrike by members of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) which has paralyzed the academic calendar for over a month throughout the country.

They expressed their views at a demonstration in Akure during which they blocked major roads and forced motorists and commuters to park their vehicles for several hours, stressing that their prolonged stay at home is causing more harm than good.

They strongly criticized the attitude of the federal government towards the plight and demands of the striking lecturers, saying it shows that Nigerian leaders do not care about education in the country.

They students, who carried a variety of placards, berated Prof. Rufai for her insensitivity to the ASUU strike and called for her immediate sack.

“Our leaders have betrayed our trust in them. Proper funding of education is what we want. We are tired of staying at home,” one of the protesting students said.

@Chikelu Odinaka

The money ASUU is demanding is too much eh? so you don't know that the money one Govt Official is stealing can pay ASUU members for 10 yrs? Where did Jonathan got the money he use to pay off people like Asari Dokubo and other Militants? Do you know how much the militants' leaders are worth all paid off by Jonathan, money that should have been used for the good of all.

University students protesting in Ondo State

I sympathise with the protesting Students but Would the same protesting Students work towards a good government in Nigeria? The answer is no. Rufai is not the Problem, he is answerable to the President and the President should be held responsible. We are not operating a Parliamentary System of Government. We are operating a system where the Buck stops with the President. This president is simply there and getting directive how to run down the Country by his uneducated wife. And should this action be restricted to Ondo state students alone? No. All Nigerian Students in Higher institutions both Universities a Polytechnics should have been out in the streets all over Nigeria or all of them to go and choke up Abuja and make the function of Govt impossible that is the Language this type of gutter government understands. No violence absolutely no violence just the students population in Abuja alone will make the Govt realise that Govt exist for the people not for a few.

ITS DISGRACE TO NIGERIA

I wonder how these people attain the position they arein. What ashame to the fedral government that make a promise years back without fulfilment? Education is a backbone of all matters, but that of Nigeria ceases to function as its ASUU on strike as fedral government abandon them. This the Nigerian leaders esp. those in ministry of education, show tiredness & those that are helpful to Nigerians are in better position for better Nigeria otherwise for worst Nigeria!

She is one of the best

The issue is way beyond her, their agreement was way b4 she even became Minister. And she has been systematically trying to solve the matter as she is a woman of action not words. So what u should be demanding is sack of Jonathan. Have someone that can allocate & implement 40% of national budget to Education.
Removing her will only make matters worst, as she one of the most respected professionals in the cabinet.

@Chikelu Odinaka be reasonable in your comments on ASUU

@Chikelu Odinaka, I am very suprised at your comments on ASUU's financial demands, for real?? Do you know the earnings of local government chairmen/women? not to talk of politicians with forged certificates? Their allowances are enough to sustain many children in the villages across Nigeria. Please, Chikelu, be sensitive in your comments on ASUU, they deserve the pay, if only that will assist them to commit themselves to their jobs.

Lesbians have invaded delta

What is this country turning into? Lesbians have invaded delta state, they now own a club and even formed a dangerous cult, recruiting students, while government watches. Check The whole story and pictures at www.160bits.com and don't forget to follow me

Sack d Clown from Otuoke not Prof Rufai

Stupid and foolish students! Is it d ministers duty
to fund Education? Existing universities are not functioning, and learning environment pathetic.
Yet all d clown, who calls himself president could
do is waste Nigerian resources to build another
"fake" university in d bushes of Otuoke.
So many worthless glorified secondary schools they call universities in Nugerua producing thugs and prostitutes. Just let's throw away PDP at d next election.

I do not agree with the

I do not agree with the students totally. Prof Rufai the Education Minister even stays to attends to education issues. If there is anyone to be sacked, it is the Minister of State for Education, Nyesom Wike, who has virtually abandoned his post and has been preoccupied with Rivers politics and crisis where he is running the machinery of the first lady to harass and intimidate the government and people of the state.

Akure is a capital city of a

Akure is a capital city of a state in Nigeria. It's ok to protest anywhere even in d village. If d Govt want to hear, they will hear. Period!

Stop fooling your self,

Stop fooling your self, sacking prof rufai can not help the situation. Ghana earmarks 24 per cent of its annual budget on educ while Nineria earmarks only 8 per cent of its annual budget, why won't there be problem?

She is One of the Best Ministers

The issue of ASUU strike is something that is beyond the power of the minister. Honestly the money ASUU is demanding is simply impossible. We believe if its something withing her capabilities, by now this ASUU issue would have been a history. I hope the students will understand

What a pathetic situation

It is indeed sad to note that Nigeria who claimed to be the giant of Africa can remain adamant to issues on education. We pray that God will raise a messiah that will put education in its rightful position.

Akure is not the right place to protest

Though as a citizens of Nigeria these students have the rights to protest anywhere in the federation, however Abuja should have been the right place to protest against the ASUU strike and not Akure. Their voices will never be heard in Akure. Students wake up...
