Sallah Threats: Security Beefed Up In Kaduna Over Boko Haram
Security has been strengthened in strategic locations in Kaduna town, Zaria, and the Southern part of Kaduna State.
The action was taken ahead of any attempted bombings and other attacks by Boko Haram in anticipation of the Sallah celebrations this weekend or the holidays that will carry into Wednesday next week.
On Tuesday evening, Kaduna witnessed a dastardly suicide bombing in which two suspected suicide bombers were killed as they transported explosives on a motorbike on Ali Akilu Wa, near the home of Sheik Ahmad Abubakar Gumi on Modibbo Adama Road.
Apart from uniformed armed police and soldiers, there are other unidentified security operatives deployed to watch over suspected terrorists hideouts and any moves to bomb or attack either civilians or security operatives on duty.
Contacted on the security situation in Kaduna State, a top security official told SaharaReporters following the bomb blast on Tuesday that although they will not reveal their strategies, for obvious reasons, they are manning all strategic locations and will be able to contain any insurgency from terrorists.
He said that they are still investigating the location from which yesterday’s suicide bombers may have departed from. “We are still tracing the actual direction that they took before the blast, and we are getting close to that,” he said.
Another source also told SaharaReporters by phone that operatives are monitoring movements in Rigasa, where a bomb factory was demolished two weeks ago, as well as other nearby communities.
The source said that the Kaduna State Security Council, chaired by Governor Patrick Yakowa, has resolved to carry out thorough searches of all vehicles entering the state, as well as those leaving the area.
Like the town of Kaduna, Zaria and Kafancha have also seen an intensification of security.
