Thousands Of Women Voters Stage Protest In Oguta Over Conduct Of Supplementary Elections
Today’s "Supplementary Elections" called by INEC to complete Imo's "inconclusive" gubernatorial elections ran into troubled waters in Oguta local government area in the state as election materials failed to arrive the area on time.
It was not clear what happened to the materials as at the time of filling this report but women in the area sensing that the troubled governor of the state, Ikedi Ohakim, colluded with unscrupulous INEC officials to short change voters in the area embarked aon a massive protest defying the army and police..
No fewer than 1,000 voters at Oguta lag took to the streets to force INEC to postpone elections in the area. INEC hasn't explained why there the non availability of electoral materials for the supplementary governorship poll in the area.
Protesters mostly led by brave women trooped out early in the morning for the registration to enable them cast their votes but after hours of waiting in vain for the arrival of the materials the people took to the streets.
As at 3 p.m. the exercise had yet to begin and no INEC official could be found in the area to explain the situation. But SaharaReporters gathered that the elections were postponed to avoid a total breakdown of law and order in the area.
The protesters carried green leaves and chanted; `` No election in Oguta’’.
A senior police officer, DIG, I.U Okoronkwo accompanied by the Area Police Commander, Tambari Mohammed and heads of other security agencies in the state as well as the supervising Resident Electoral Officer Aniedi Ikoiwak visited the area to assess the situation.
The Security team met with the INEC officials before leaving.
The protesters alleged electoral malpractice and warned INEC not to accept or declare any result from Oguta insisting that no election took place in the area.
SaharaReporters had revealed in earlier updates that today's supplementary elections in Imo state was a logistical failure in all respects.
Shame to you now we have
Shame to you now we have choosed our Governor
Galad, u seem to b a seer.
For me, I strongly believe that nothing much will come out of this GEJ regime. I wonder how he is going to cope with those lions and tigers of their party pdp. Well, I still dey laugh oooh, like my oga.
WHAT A SHAME
What a shame.
How come even when the whole INEC facilities are deployed to only 4 local governments and INEC still unable to get materials to the venue on time.
The reason why these things keep happening is that nobody is being punished for not doing his job.
2007 Prof Iwu's elections
2007 Prof Iwu's elections were marked by 'wuruwuru' while Prof. Jega's 2011 is to be marred by 'jagajaga'
WHAT GOES AROUND COMES AROUND
Why are people just waking up from their slumber? Does it mean we're separating Imo Guber race from the whole process which some people out of their sentiment or ignorance adjudged to be free, fair and credible and the best Nigeria ever had?
Maybe MUHAMMADU BUHARI/CPC instigated these women to go on protest.Has anybody even bold to ask what are the roles of presidency in this show of shame in Imo State?
Where did the text message the man read before declaring the election inconclusive in the forst place came from?
What was the real reason behind the suspension/sack of the Honourable Minister of Interior?
A nation under lies and deceit @50. I enjoying my people from Igboland to be calm,GEJ shall heal all your wounds
Jega and iwu

Imo elections
Please Imo ppl don't start crying now, when our votes in the North
Were shared by under declaration and splitting the votes to give GEJ
up to 40% where we as the voters know we did not vote for him
And returning 98% voter participation in the south especially Imo
Did u not know that what goes around comes around? GEJ and
OHAKEEM for ever, too late to cry
OH,DEAR NOT AGAIN.
last gubernitorial election ,it was Anambra, this time Imo, must it always be in Iboland ,please Mr Ohakim and Mr Rochas, bear in mind that only one of you will be Governor so whoever is trying to cheat will have a case to answer.
hypocrites!!!
When SR attacks ur man GEJ, they become biased reporters. Now they are telling u facts about Imo and u all are here opening ur mouths...shey dey are not biased now? Or where they paid by Rochas?
DECLARE OHAKIM AND SEE WAR!
I am not surprised today that pdp thugs intercepted election materials meant for today supplementary election in my state. They took the materials and on their way to their hideout to thumbprint, the men on patrol caught them with the thinking they are APGA thugs. They were bundled to Owerri this morning. As usual, they will be released immediately after.
My thanks goes to the ever ready peope of Oguta who trooped to the police in their thousands especially the women , for their doggedness in seeing that no result was released by INEC from Oguta. God will catch up with Ohakim, Badluck Jonathan, Jega and pdp. They will see evil all their days for wanting to rig in my hometown!
Results
has there been any results announced in todays Imo elections?
Where do you start
Yes it ends at comments, where do you start? you need unity of purpose which is not present in a wider sense. Some of us said we wanted Buhari others tongue lashed us saying we are Fulani slaves. We condemn the elections they said buhari is a sore looser and that he personally burnt churches or asked them specifically so to do. Some said they voted Dr Jonathan and not PDP and we argued there is no difference between them. i would have volunteered my thumb for Dr Jonathan but for PDP. In a small town yes women found a voice, maybe nationally we will get there. though as of today I pray that Dr Jonathan should try not to dissappoint those who against all reason voted for him. I hope he succeed, I will be happy for Nigeria.
Jega is a failure. Jega
Jega is a failure. Jega disappointed me. He is a failure. Imo state election is all i need to conclude my suspi of jega.
i dey laugh!
i'm laughing here as i realised u all hv startd. U hv nt seen anythg yet.some pple wl like 2 shed tears 4 their support of GEJ/PDP in the last electn bt tears wl refuse 2 flow.pls ask them wht they xpect 4rm a child who was raised nd nurtured in a gang of criminal, thievery of course nd tht is ur lot 4 anoda 4 yrs.wait nd c whn d cabinet is constitutd then d morning shl reveal d day! 4 now i dey laugh oooh!
Unbelievable Transition To Now ....here ..... Nowhere
It's not suprising that in today's 21st century, in broad daylight, an incumbent governor manipulates his machinery of corruption to win elections in 3 local governments leaving us to wonder what may have happened in the other 771 local governments in the so called elections. All we do is to sit back, write comments on SR (most of the time, insulting someone else for his/her comment) and that's it. The courage of these Oguta women will be remembered for a very long time; at least, they did SOMETHING about it and got results. Everyone clamours about Naija, elections, GEJ, Buhari, APGA nonsense nonsense but who cares about NIGERIA? Cares enough that he/she is ready to die for Nigeria? Until out sentiments get to the pitch boiling point, we will continued to be hoodwinked with impunity and in broad daylight by our politician brothers and sisters (not aliens o) Afterall, what can you do? Nothing!!
revenge!
haaah! haaah!! haaah!!! I dey laugh
Who see RIBADU last
Where is that boy they called ribadu, Tinubu has Atikulized him now gone into coma
jega has failed
why ar we celebratin d head of d electoral umpire wen it is evident dat d man has failed in all ramifications.let d man honorably resign
GEJ is a failure
GEJ is a failure because he is the Project Manager of the country. He knows what is going on. Secondly, the uninformed Nigerians are also failure for voting for the "Person" and not PDP. You find flies in filthy places, GEJ is not clean in any aspect of his life.
INEC IS UP TO SOMETHING
i AM SURE INEC IS UP TO SOMETHING. IT IS GOOD THIS IS COMING UP PUBLICLY. HOPE THEY WILL NOT RELEASE RESULT FROM THOSE AREAS WHERE THERE WAS NO ELECTORAL MATERIALS. WHAT WAS ALL THE NOISE THAT INEC MADE OVER THE RE-RUN AND AVAILABILITY OF MATERIALS?
Advance Rigging
Who is afraid of Rochas being the Governor? They should allow us chose our Governor.woe! To the president and JEGA
Ohakin and pdp shld cover tr face in shame
I do not know why Prof. Jega wants to rob his name on the mod. Jega yr intergrity is at stake in ths election, do not allow the fed. govt. to mes you up, declare Rochas d winner afterall he really won d election. Imolite do not want Ohakin again simple, if he like let him spend d whole money in the govt a/c, he will count 4 it.
Sorry for Nigeria
I am truly sorry for this our country called Nigeria.I can't write more than this, it hurts just thinking about this country, I am so so upset, we can never ever change. I am truly proud of this women. I pray God for their protection because knowing our politicians and their THUGS , there may be a reprisal on the women who are in the forefront of the protest and it will be violent (you know what I mean)
