Boko Haram yesterday reacted formally to the barrage of condemnations against its Christmas Day bombing, insisting that what it did was correct and vowed to carry out more attacks.
The Islamic sect, whose actual name is Jama’atu Ahlissunnah Lidda’awati Wal Jihad, confirmed in a statement issued by its leader Imam Abu-Muhammad Abubakar bin Muhammad Shekau that it was responsible for the December 25 bombing of a church in Madalla, a suburb of Abuja, in which at least 37 people were killed.
Shekau said in the statement written in the Hausa language and e-mailed to media houses by the group’s spokesman Abul Qaqa: “I am informing all Nigerians and the rest of the world that there is no doubt that we committed that act and God’s willing we will carry out further attacks.”
He revealed that the attacks are meant to avenge the “mass killing of Muslims carried out by Christians with the connivance of government” in northern towns like Kaduna, Zonkwa, Langtang, Yelwan Shendam, Jos, Tafawa-Balewa, and Numan, as well as in Shagamu and Ikoyi, Lagos in the south. The latest of such killings, according to the group, took place a few months ago on Eid el-Fitr Day in Jos, the Plateau state capital, during which non-Muslims cannibalised the burnt corpses of victims.
“We swear by Allah that we will avenge any form of injustice committed, being committed or to be committed against Muslims. This is just the beginning,” Shekau vowed.
The group also questioned the stance taken by Muslim leaders and traditional rulers who condemned the Christmas Day killings, saying they have no right to decide what Islam preaches on the responsibility of Muslim activists.
According to it, “the so-called Muslim leaders” should know that God, in the Qur’an (2:194) urges Muslims to avenge any transgression committed against them by non-Muslims. It also referred the Sultan of Sokoto, whom it derisively called “Emir of Sokoto,” to Qur’anic chapters and verses 2:190-194; 9::36, and 22:39-41, as well as the 134th Tradition in Sahih Muslim on the concept of jihad or holy war.
Shekau challenged the Muslim leaders to tell Nigerians why they did not condemn the Eid el-Fitr Day killings in Jos, which was documented on video, as well as the alternative way of avenging the killings since they found the Boko Haram way unacceptable.
The militant leader also denied the insinuations allegedly made in some quarters that a former minister of information, Prof. Jerry Gana, and secretary-general of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) in the 19 Northern States and Abuja, Elder Sa’idu Dogo, were sponsors of the group, asking rhetorically, “Is this, then, the job they sponsored us to carry out?”

It is obvious that a syndicate sponsored by foriegn aids are aimed at spliting our beloved father's land just for the interest of our natural resources. Its target is to make sure that Nigeria is splited by 2015 according to the analysis rendered by the United state. Last Eid (Sallah Celebration) there was a blast at Bauchi which claimed lots of lives at a praying ground in the early hours ofvthe day. Now the same syndicate have also achieved its aim in succeeding in another blast at Madalla claiming lives of innocent christians who were worshiping at the church. Its obvoius that there is something fishy somehere, i'm urging my fellow citizens to wake up from their slumber and be vigilant and observant. i have been watching the boka ha ram insurgence on the Nigerian people, up till their recent bombing of a church on Christmas day,the day which is symbolize in the christian faith as the birth of the Christianity and that was the day that the boka ha ram chose to kill Christians, well today is the last say of the year 2011, but i see a more intense scenario as now mosques are bombed, what will happen to the Nigerian project in 2012 is best left to our imagination.... me i see the end, whats the point of having a country were some people bomb and kill the innocent at will

Otile, i understand that you are angry over these killings but so am i. Do not take your anger on the religion or its prophet. Boko haram's dealings are not easy to comprehend. Their method causes great sadness in the hearts of most muslims and nobody else is to be blamed other than GEJ. Trust me, this situation seems to be beyond the president and his security chiefs. I pray that the secrets of boko haram and their sponsors be brought to light and that GEJ follows up with the required action so that we can all live in peace once again. I love peace and want it for everyone.
The qur'an is the only book that is mostly pre-judged before being read and that makes the comments made on this holy book absolutely out of place. Read it and you will marvel at its distinction. Boko Haram- is a case of locking the stable door after the horse had bolted. The pattern is always the same: demostrations escalating into massacres, the Northern elite setting the pace and organised groups of armed thugs, plus casual hanger-ons rushing in and finishing the job. The Hausa Fulani Kanuri elites of the ‘holy north’ the former rulers of nigeria and those who had apparently lost most from the new order, also have a vested interest in holding nigeria together , if nigeria broke up, the northern part , cut off from the sea and with very few natural resources, would undoubtedly have the most to lose. Obasanjo and Goodluck are sheilding this evil man from Prosecution and therefore playing dirty games with peoples lives in Borno. This was how Yaradua destroyed the fight against corruption by sheilding IBORI. Where are they both? Nigerians, aks JEG to release SAS for a fair trial in his 8years of destroying Borno state, most of these KILLINGS will be abated! If JEG refuses, I see him going the Yaradua way...
