Why Dokpesi Opted To Become IBB's Campaign Manager
In a bizarre and rambling text message, CEO of Africa Independent Television (AIT) Raymond Dokpesi, announced that he had accepted an offer to be the executive director of the sagging Ibrahim Babangida presidential campaign.
Dokpesi rambled on in his text message to close associates why his new assignment was necessary and why his new boss should be forgiven and given another chance to rule Nigeria.
He then signed off by apologizing to those the former military dictator might have offended, claiming that those decisions were collectively taken by the military.
Although Dokpesi’s acceptance of the leadership of IBB’s crumbling campaign might have shocked some of his friends, Saharareporters has learnt that the so-called “double chief,” who referred to himself as “Ezomo of Weppano kingdom” in the text message, was available to the highest bidder as the fortunes of his media empire had dipped on account of his personal mismanagement and extravagance.
Dokpesi runs the DAAR Group media concerns in several cities across Nigeria, but it is a well-known fact that he has not paid his workers in at least 10 months.
Recently after Saharareporters exposed his anti-labour practices and hostile work place behavior, Dokpesi broke up AIT into semi-autonomous units known as "Special Business Units" and claimed that all staffers would be paid their current salaries and backlog through the SBUs, but apart from the AIT SBU managed by his wife, Tosin, none of the SBUs have paid the staff more than two months in 2010. The backlogs remain unpaid.
Sources told Saharareporters that Dokpesi’s about-face against current president, Goodluck Jonathan, happened for two reasons.
The first is that he found out that despite the public grandstanding, most of the state governors claiming to be in support of Jonathan for the next elections are not really behind him. In fact, in the Southern political block which Jonathan hails from, only the governor of Akwa Ibom state, Godswill Akpabio, can currently be counted as a true supporter of Jonathan. The rest of them are just playing along with the Jonathan team because they do not want Jonathan to set the EFCC upon them.
The second reason is that Dopkesi was reportedly miffed by Jonathan's refusal to pay him a bogus bill he presented to the federal government for purportedly covering the Under-17 football fiesta that took place in Nigeria in 2009. Saharareporters had reported that Dokpesi's sudden embrace of the Save Nigeria Group is motivated by selfishness as it has to do with his desire to get paid for the job he did not do.
In 2009, while Nigeria was about to host the under-17th FIFA soccer fiesta, Dokpesi sent out a glossy proposal to the federal government of Umaru Yar'Adua. The document, titled "DAAR-FIFA HOST BROADCASTER BUDGET presentation," outlined the breakdown of Dokpesi's DAAR communication capability to broadcast the world cup on behalf of FIFA and Nigeria.
However, knowledgeable sources told Saharareporters that despite his pompous presentation of the N5 billion proposal, DAAR communication lacked the capacity to broadcast most of the matches live. It was going to rely on the facilities of the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA) to carry out its part of the bargain, for which FIFA officials already paid DAAR communication.
Soon as the under-17 World cup was concluded, Dokpesi began visiting Yar'Adua to demand payment for the FIFA-AIT broadcast, but the chair of the Nigerian Broadcasting Commission, Mr. Yomi Bolarinwa, told the presidency the truth about what happened, his advice and full briefing led the late Yar'adua not to approve the payments Dokpesi requested. But Dokpesi went and procured the help of Mr. Jonathan, who was then the Vice President and chair of the local organizing committee of the Under-17 fiesta to prevail on Yar'Adua to approve his bogus payment.
It was not a surprise that Dokpesi provided the expansive conference rooms of his offices for the Save Nigeria Group as they held series of meetings to fight the Yar'Adua cabal. Dokpesi also attended the meeting Jonathan with the group.
Prior to the FIFA money debacle, Dokpesi had flirted with the Yar'Adua regime over the planned demolition of his DAAR Group headquarters in Abuja by the Obasanjo regime. Although the new government wanted to correct some of the vindictive policies of the Obasanjo regime, it soon found out that Chief Dokpesi was in possession of large swathes of prime properties in Abuja that he had illegally or fraudulently acquired. The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory was asked to enter into negotiations with him so as to prevent the seizure of his illegally acquired land and fraudulently built structures which reportedly violated the Abuja masterplan.
It is not known why Jonathan refused to pay off Dokpesi for bogus billing which he had submitted to scam the federal government as about three committees has already been set up to reconcile the accounts submitted by Dokpesi and those of FIFA. A presidency source told Saharareporters that Jonathan has always known that Dokpesi was rooting for Babangida and he delayed the payments because there was nothing to show that AIT did anything for the federal government after several committees looked into his claims.
Knowing that Jonathan was reluctant, Dokpesi was soon to jump from the ship of the Save Nigeria Group as Jonathan did not give the group further attention or audience. Dokpesi quickly sought a spot on another delegation of South-South leaders that met with Jonathan to greet him as the new president. He pressed for the payments, but a delay in realizing his payday again led him to jump ship, according to sources.
Other sources close to Babangida and Dokpesi told Saharareporters that Dopkesi’s “financial success” earlier in life was attributable to the shady dealings that characterized the Babangida years which made billionaires of cronies and errand boys that helped Babangida kill, maim, and milk Nigeria dry until he was finally chased out in 1993 after he annulled the now famous June 12 elections.
Anxious staffers of Mr. Dokpesi are genuinely worried about his shameless decision to work for Babangida, especially as his television station is likely to suffer the consequences owing to the unpopular nature of his chosen candidate. Last week, young people opposed to Babangida began a boycott campaign on Facebook and the earlier assurance Dokpesi gave his staff evaporated when the presenter of one of AIT's most popular program "Focus Nigeria", Mr. Gbenga Aruleba, almost tearfully announced that his 30 minute spot had been replaced by a special program sponsored by Babangida.
Political Plat Form
AIT and real power is one station in Nigeria I can stand to watch or listen to but today it is hearting that this media house has sold off its reputation for just a price will be soon vanish away forgetting that good legacy can never be wiped away. Political plat form is a top radio programme that every Nigerian eager to listen before but the case is the reverse. At the earlier stage of the negotiation bw Dokpesi and IBB, the moderator of political plat form (Remi) assured Nigerians of balance reporting of political events but the reverse is the case with Agbuso Remi as he in particular has been bought over by Dopkesi and IBB. He doesn’t report anything good about the Gov’t of Jonathan. No more cristic on the side of IBB. His job now is only to find fault and how to nail Jonathan’s government. Remi I must tell you, you have failed your friends and fans of political plat form. How much Dopkesi did give you? out of the much IBB dropped for him. The game you are playing will not be healthy for your career and your personality. Money must surely fade away but dignity can not fade. I thank God for Amaechi, Mustapha and Ohiri who understands that they owe their listeners to inform the only truth and has stand to defend what the said earlier on balancing their reports. With these guys still in the programme we will not stop listening to Political Platform. It is a big surprise that Agbose-Remi can mortgage his name and career just because of a piece of bread from a devil IBB. Remenber what you use to say about IBB before he bought over, trade only on the path of truth and God will see you through becos day of reckoning is coming.

DOKPESI vs IBB
MY FRIENDS LETS DONT CRUCIFY WHO EVER WROTE WHAT DOKPESI DID OR IS DOING TO NIGERIA AND NIGERIANS BY SECRETLY MILKING NIGERIA HIS OWN COUNTRY,AFTER MAKING PEOPLE BELIEVE THAT HE HAS COME TO SAVE THE NATION THROUGH HIS MEDIA COPERATION.
THE TRUTH IS THAT FOR HIM 'HIGH THIEF' TO EVEN THINK/DREAM OF HELPING IBB TO RULE THAT COUNTRY HAS EVALUATED HIMSELF AS A CULPRIT TO WHATEVER ACCUSATION THAT IS LEVELED AGAINST HIM ON THE FIFA NIGERIA WORLD CUP BROADCASTING JOB/PAYMENT.
MY ADVICE TO HIM IS TO FOLLOW IBB FOOTSTEP BY APPOLIGISING TO NIGERIAN FOR HIS MOST COSTLY MISTAKE.
THE NEXT PERSON IS THE GOVERNOR OF EDO STATE ADAMS OSHIEMOLE.
NIGERIA+IBB=PROGRESS!!!
Dear Sir Raymond Dokpesi,
Your simplicity and good natured attitude defines Who and what your are which is clearly proven through your peculiar GOD’S ministry “Africa Independent Television” (AIT), An inspiring/encouraging tool for all those who have chosen the right part of life and a legit way of becoming almost everything good worthy to be are HEARD!
As in the recent times you have kept yourself abreast of the abhorring trend of politicking in Africa and Nigeria in particular, you wouldn’t contest the fact that a caricature have been made of democracy which IBB stressful planted and still nurtures against all odds. It is also so unfortunate to note that what is on ground in Nigeria is a clear demonstration of partisan gimmicks that has succeeded in strangling the prospects of democracy as envisaged by the common populace whose franchise should have been held prerogative.
Little wonders that since the inception of this purported democratic dispensation in Nigeria, there had never seized to be inter-party rumble for veto-power nor have there been a pause on the re-occurring scenario of national commotion reared up by some desperate and un spiritually matured politicians, party caucus faithful, geo-political groups all in a bid to satisfying selfish and egocentric quests. These abnormalities have in the past deteriorated into party leadership dissolutions, oustering of democratically elected functionaries from office via unconstitutional impeachment processes, declaration of state emergency in some states whose leadership are on the fence or proves to be potential threats to partisan manipulations, back-biting and blackmail amongst political office holders etc and this suggests the basic reason behind my confiding on you to help me help Nigerians to realize the fact that our ability to perceive whatever situation be it encouraging or otherwise which we find ourselves entrapped in to be for a positive priceless gain will confirm us Godly because that is the ability to look beyond the physical for a more refreshing spiritual benefit known as “PEACE OF MIND”
"OUR LEADER"
PRESIDENT IBRAHIM.B.BABANGIDA, HAS INDEED FINALLY CONFIRMED MY PERSONAL BELIEF THAT HE IS A "MAN OF GOD" WHO UNDERSTANDS THAT "MAN’S GREATEST TASK IS TO CONTROL HIS OWN SELFISHTHOUGHTS WHICH WILL ENABLE HIM MAKE THAT CRUCIAL AND HARD DECISION OF USING HIS INTACT GOOD QUALITY TO IMPROVE OTHERS NOT-MINDING THEIR VERY SLOW PACE OF LEARNING AND WITHOUT NOTICING OR ALLOWING THEIR DISCOURING FAULTS TO FRUSTRATE HIS CONSIDERATE HEART…
NIGERIANS MUST HEAR THIS PAINFUL TRUTH THAT GOD DOES NOT GIVE US WHAT WE WANT BUT FAITHFULLY GRANT US THOSE THINGS THAT WE DO NOT EVEN KNOW WE URGENTLY NEED FOR OUR GOOD UNTIL WE REALISE IT.
“MY PERSONAL MESSAGE TO IBB”
OGA IBB ALTHOUGH I AM SURE IT IS STILL AGAINST YOUR OWN WISHES TO BE TRAAPED BY ALLAH AS NIGERIA’S ONLY PEACE OF MIND! BUT IT IS NOT OPTIONAL FOR YOU, SO I PRAY THAT YOU WILL TAKE THIS HARD AND VERY NECESSARY DECISION NOW TO STOP RULING THROUGH THESE PAST AND PRESENT PRESIDENTS SO THAT YOU CAN COMPLETE PROPERLY THE WORK YOU STARTED FROM GOD FOR NIGERIA’S BEST BENEFITS AND LASTING PEACE OF MIND WITHOUT PAYING ANYMORE ATTENTION TO THEIR LACK OF IGNORANCE..
From Mr. Chukwuemena John-OGBU.

RE:Dawodu Adekunle
Nationalist
Freedom Fighter
Liberator
These are not Adjectives you will associate with Raymond Dokpesi, you must be joking.
Raymond in the same league as Nkrumah and Nelson Mandela. What planet do you belong too.
Please Please Please is this a comedy write-up
Yakubu Gowon
Shehu Shagari
The above men could not handle the Job of being a president. Wasted public funds had no iota of what development was about. They could have made major and real Regenerative Expenditure on social infrastructures but failed to do so. Hence our current state of dilapidated infrastructures Nationwide.
Ibrahim Badamosi Babangida.
Worse than Yakubu and Shehu, he and his cohorts not only wasted public funds, engaged in Non regenerative Investments (aka Looting, cake sharing).IBB had the gulf money wind fall and could not develop the country, not even simple mobile phone. Roads, Petrol. Education, Naira, Electricity, Health e.t.c where better off, before IBB came to power. He virtually destroyed the country. Today the clown IBB wants to be president with the Aid of our looted funds. What kind of Legacy will he leave behind? When in power steal all you can so that you can buy your way back in to power in future
Dawodu with praise singers like you and the likes of Raymond flocking with IBB, I don’t expect anything developmental in Nigeria for another decade. Only loot sharing and misery for the masses can be expected, what a shame and what a wasted generation.
DOKPESI WHY
I believed so much in you. I thought you stood for truth, transperacy and honesty. Its a pity you have opted for evil. Too bad. Goodbye to AIT. I will never watch that station again. Never
Why Dokpesi opted for IBB
From Saharareport, Dokpesi is a typical business man. To him & his ilk, there is no morality in Business. But as a Roman Catholic, he knows better. From his early training as a Catholic he has his conscience to contend with. What I cannot understand is why he spent so much money on air time in 2007 b4 Yaradua was foisted on Nigeria to explain why SOUTH-SOUTH should be given a chance to be President. Now God has given the South South a chance and Dokpesi want to support Babangida to give South South a VP position. This means it is all about MONEY and Babangida has a lot of money to distribute. What he should know about Babangida is that 'BABANGIDA IS SO DIRTY THAT EVEN IF THE POPE, campaigns for him instead of the Holiness of the Pope cleaning Babangida, Babangida's dirtiness will end up dirtying the Pope' Babangida is that dirty!!! So any body associating with him should try and make as much money as possible because the person's integrity will never be the same again. Babangida CAN NEVER WIN ELECTION IN NIGERIA EVEN IF HE HAS TO RIG. Go and mark it. He can not even win in his state. Check out the major characters that are his supporters, especially in Igbo Land. They are those people who were relevant b4 but are now BROKE, they want to use their credibilty to make some money for themselves or those that are paying for past favours. That is, it is all about SELFISHNESS and not for the GOOD OF NIGERIA. But it is unfortunate because those that are thinking for a better nigeria are in the majority, that is why THIS PRESIDENTIAL RACE WILL BE FOR EITHER GOODLUCK JONATHAN OR MUHAMMADU BUHAI. God has decided to bless Nigeria and He will do it with a good LEADER because EVERY LEADR IS GIVEN TO A PEOPLE BY GOD EITHER FOR A BLESSING OR FOR A CURSE. He has cursed us enough with our previous RULERS, now He has decided to BLESS NIGERIA and NOBODY CAN STOP THAT. God Bless Nigeria.
Dawodu Adekunle - Have you looked around you lately in Nigeria?
Dawodu Adekunle - Have you looked around you lately in Nigeria? People are dying left right and centre in Nigeria and you are asking why we are crucifying someone like IBB, Atiku, Dokpesi, Bankole, Odili, Ibori, OBJ, the list is endless. Destitute Nigerians are dropping down due to hunger ansd stavation and you are asking a rhetoric question? Please soji man, you are camping with a viper aka IBB!
Saharareporters, how did this Dawodu Adekunle manage to post?
Saharareporters, how did this Dawodu Adekunle mamange to post this Nile long rubbish? When I post it usually says it is too long. Or am I missing something? Tell us how we can also get our post to you at saharareporters becuase I have a lot to share with the Nigerian masses. Nigerian destitute masses needs to be informed! Currently the information they need to make the right decisions are not getting filtered down properly to the masses that needs it the most. A revolution is what we need to jolt these thieving politicians and so called Elite crooks out of their sleeping corrupt senses!
Dokpesi
This useless man made all his loots during the terror reign of IBB. This man must be tied to a stake with IBB and shot at close range like an armed robbers that they truely are. The money he got and stole then is finishing now Dokpesi wants a avenue to come back through IBB again to replenish his loots at the detriment of destitute Nigerians. Again and again?
Chai! confirm yan...God
Chai! confirm yan...God forbid these people. If there will be no revolution in Nigeria where all these animals are killed, we and our children's children will never enjoy the potentials of this great Nation. God save us now
By the time IBB becomes the
By the time IBB becomes the president, Davud Mark is the senate president, the Akilus and Toguns are senators and Marwas and Oyinlolas are Governors, then the metamorphosis is complete. Militarised democracy of pre June 12....
why are we been stupid and
why are we been stupid and making full of our self in this country. the worse comment i have ever read are does who are not suppose to be call Nigerians or human beings but animals in human form. why are we trying to disunite this country or to gain by this can of propaganda. IBB is a Nigerian and is one of the greatest leader our country ever hard in this country and also Cheif Raymond is man a respected so much for his courage to associate himself with IBB just like million Nigerians out there likes IBB for what he stand for and not what idiot, tribalism and religious individual or group write about him. LONG LIVE NIGERIA and THE TRUE NIGERIANS WHO STAND FOR UNITY OF THIS COUNTRY.
You all make me laugh. 99% of
You all make me laugh. 99% of posters would have jumped for the offer to become IBB's campaign manager. Firstly, most of Nigerian elite are thieves & rogues otherwise how do you explain a situation where you just start hearing of one Femi Otedola, Mike Adenuga,Jimoh Ibrahim, Dokpesi etc, whose parents neither left a billion dollar empire nor have any history of how they invested and made huge profits, suddenly parading themselves as billionaires in dollars. The truth is most Nigerian rich men today, are beneficiaries of one Govt. or the other. You will all soon be shocked to see the people in IBB's camp!!!
YOU CANNOT WALK WITHOUT YOUR SHADOW:
It is not surprising to see Raymond Dokpesi pitch tent with IBB, knowing his anticidents. He has always been a double-faced man with the face of a deceit. He has the propensity to hob-nob with the high and the affluence with a view to making a living out of them, otherwise how will he be able to sustain his business empire which he collectively built with Moji; only to push her into the oblivion with the emergence of the new wife. Never mind, it will not be too long before nemesis begin to catch up with him. His business is on a steady decline, and God knows it certainly will not survive the tide as long as Raymond remains unrepentant in his unwholesome and backstabbing attitude to his fatherland.
Dawodu Adekunle, your
Dawodu Adekunle, your prosperity sermon is vintage Nigerian. IBB was right when he swore that he could buy any Nigerian except of course the Great Gani Fawehinmi. Well, for your information, there are a good many breathing Gani still on this Nigerian space.
And by the way, who is this 'MIKE MURDOCH' you mentioned in your Nile-like epistle. Would you care to educate us more on this patron saint of self-serving media moguls?
If perchance you were refering to the Australian magnate Rupert Murdoch, you may just be right, for this is one man who publishes the news in his papers and networks the way he wishes and prefers the news to sound and not exactly what happens: all according to his bigoted political blinkers.
How dare you compare Ted Turner and CNN to Sir Rupert and his foxy one-man empire.
The problem with those of you who missuse the Bible and Quoran copiously to justify your personal greed is that you believe you still live in the Age of Spanish Inquisition and the crusades. No, the world, even one with imposed illiteracy and poverty like Nigeria, has moved on and sorry, you've been left behind with your IBB baggage! Pe-le o.
Dawodu - Ole!
It is obvious that you were also in Minna for the 'secret birthday party' for if not, you would not be writing this rubbish. Revolution is on the way in Nigeria and like you rightly said, Dokpesi has a choice but only time would tell if he has made the right one. The likes of you are the reason why Nigeria is stuck! Like I said, revolution is on the way! Daar communication is going down, down, down and into crumbles. May the good Lord punish all the enemies of our great Nation.
We all have freedom to choice
We all have freedom to choice and association. So let's stop rumbling about Chief Dokpesi, and ask our beloved \president to provide Nigeria with steady electricity and good road.
Ah! High Chief Dokpesi
I still cannot believe that Chief Dokpesi Aliegho Raymond could be that mischievous. The younger generation were looking up to him and took him as a role model but he has just make the world realized that he has been exhibiting the fake part of himself now his true self has just surfaced. Lets sit down and watch where this decision of his will lead him to. AIT, I'm sorry.......
high thief
we are in seriouse trouble in Nigeria...you do not even know the identity of the person sleeping next to you...you might just wake up to realize the person you slept on thesame bed with was only wearing a mask...we must beware of thieves in AGBADA called chiefs
Now i know Dokpesi
Thanks SR for this expose. I have remained dumbfounded the day i saw Dokpesi being announced as Babangida's campaign chair.
it is so sad that somebody of Dokpesi status whom i respect, before now, belongs so this trash of fraudsters whose concern is their bellies. Shame! They will all be disgraced along with their rougue master sooner or later.
If there is no credible Nigerian to rule this country, we will prefer a Somalia to Babangida.
Re: “Why Dokpesi opted to become IBB’s Campaign Manager”.
I have chosen to reply the article on Sahara Reporters with the bold heading – “Why Dokpesi opted to become IBB’s Campaign Manager”. The article was posted on August 30th, 2010.
The reasons why I decided to reply the article are obvious. One. Saraha Reporters have become a ground where falsehood is celebrated and I wonder why it is so. The medium has become a burning furnace of sensationalism and that is because Nigerians over the years have become addicted to sensational stories about Nigeria and her great leaders who have continued to toil to make Nigeria great.
What may be baffling is that the character, who may have posted this very gory and strange story about Dokpesi to public glare, is one without a lucid stand, moral mind, attitude, pedigree to pick up his pen to write on High Chief Dokpesi.
You will equally find out that such a character may just be one who expects so much from Chief Raymond Dokpesi, aggrieved because he cannot get his attention. You will also find out that such a character, when you study his/her antecedence may belong to a group that believes in pulling down people who strive daily to live on the positive side of history.
What is the crime in Dokpesi sending text messages to friends? I am a writer. I was trained in writing and those who trained us taught us to write stories that will help build our society and reshape our future. News basically must strive to inform and educate us. News must build a society, redefine a society, create progressive articles which should help revitalize the environment. News must not be sectionally based. Such that when you read a news item, you find out that the item emanates from an aggrieved person, tactically written to damage a personality. It ought not to be so. I emulate great personalities. I have continued to strive to build my life to see if I can attain the status of a Nationalist.
Your style of writing is disgusting, lacking in depth. It could have been ignored but I felt you need bruises for lies. Raymond Dokpesi, will continue to be in national discourse because he is a great Nigerian. Dokpesi is a Nationalist, a freedom fighter, a liberator and a man whose daily thinking is towards the betterment of Nigeria.
The writer who posted this article on Sahara reporters should know that if Mandela was to be a Nigerian, he would have been condemned and perhaps be serving a jail term for liberating his country.
The Republic of Ghana celebrates Nkrumah on yearly basis. But in Nigeria, WHO ARE YOUR HEROES? We have branded and called all those who lead this country all sorts of names. Today, who talks about Dr Nnamdi Azikiwe? This was a man who gave birth to the first Newspaper in Nigeria, West African pilot. He worked tirelessly with other great Nigerians for our independence. Where and how is Azikiwe situated in Nigeria today? Before his death, he was almost confined to Nsukka, Enugu State and branded a HERO of the Ibo race.
What about the great chief Obafemi Awolowo, a Nationalist of great repute? His works remain very indelible in our national lives. But there are some Nigerians, who in their negativity classify him as a Yoruba leader.
This equally can be said of Tafawa Balewa and the Sardauna of Sokoto. They were great leaders but it baffles me when I see people pick their pen or talk in gatherings about our fallen Heroes or those alive in bad light. The pull him down syndrome!
Today, who is celebrating Yakubu Gowon? Isn’t he a Nationalist? A great elder statesman? What about Shehu Shagari? They are still living, who talks about them? What about Abdulsalam Abubakar who made it possible for us to return to democratic rule? I tell you, if somebody like Abdulsalam is out today for elections, sectionalism will come in and all kinds of damaging report. Was Yar’Adua not demonized before his death? Who do you classify as good in Nigeria? I commend Dokpesi on his bold stand with IBB.
I deeply sympathise with whoever concocted the article on High Chief Raymond Dokpesi. Rome was not built in a day. Raymond Dokpesi has coined a niche for himself as one of the finest Nigerians. He founded Raypower 100.5fm 16 years ago, to provide jobs for Nigerians; he founded Africa Independent Television to create jobs and create opportunities for Nigerians to excel in their chosen career. That is why you can refer to Gbenga Aruleba in your very shameless article.
Dokpesi has made Nigerians have a voice; Dokpesi has redefined broadcasting in Africa. Raymond Dokpesi has created job opportunities for Nigerian musicians, actors and actresses. The politicians have room to ventilate ideas, define democracy and the battle for good governance in Nigeria can better be exemplified on Raypower and AIT.
We crucify our heroes, we crucify our leaders! Do you have a pedigree to lead a campaign? Do you have such knowledge and experience?
I just watched 2face Idibia on Project Fame on 3rd of September 2010 edition. He started “a lot of people who don’t even know me or come close to me talk as if they know me”. According to 2face, he has remained focused and tried to maintain his sanity. That is what fame can do to a person. I am very sure that the writer of this article in question does not in anyway know anything about Dokpesi and that is why the article thrived more on falsehood. Raymond Dokpesi has made more friends than enemies in Nigeria. He is humane and humble to a fault but rugged in principles and ideology.
The writer of this article forgot that the basic problem in Nigeria today is unemployment. A lot of Nigerian businessmen, rather than invest in Nigeria, take their investment out of the shores of the country, to Ghana, South Africa and beyond the African continent. Their complaint ranges from poor electricity supply, insecurity and corruption in our country. But we condemn that businessmen that remain to ruffle it out for our good.
Here is Dokpesi, with a media empire, and he continues to run his business on diesel for 24hours and almost 365 days of the year.
The money for diesel alone can pay staff salaries. Your article withdraws itself from the terrain where businesses are fast folding up, while those that have not folded up have refused to expand because of the hazards and lack of enabling environment for businesses to exist.
The writer has no information on why Special Business Units –SBU’s were created in DAAR Communications PLC. The claim that none of the SBUs have paid their staff more than two months in 2010 is acute falsehood. The truth is that lies have their attendant repercussions. Raypower is an SBU and is paying salaries. AIT is an SBU and is equally paying salaries and if you may know, the television arm and the Raypower arm have more staff than the news SBU. The news SBU, which you could claim may be lagging behind, has paid beyond two months as you speculated. To say ten months is calommy, and spread of falsehood to destroy a man like Dokpesi.
Raymond Dokpesi media outfit were the ground that NADECO activists, people like the Late Gani Fawehinmi patronized to express their views. Raypower and AIT were volatile ground used to extinct the military rule. I also wish to commend the print media in Nigeria for their role.
Dokpesi equally made sure that his stations – AIT and Raypower, became very formidable and a ground for the citizenry to express their views on military dictatorship. This assisted in the demise of military rule in Nigeria.
Dokpesi from the inception of democracy, created more political programmes than any other broadcasting house. Check your record, if you have any. His stations monitored the general elections in 1999, 2003 and 2007, and were able to report more accurately their findings. The battle for credible elections in Nigeria started on AIT.
Raypower and AIT have consistently battled against high handedness in government. There is the issue of third term which I think the writer swept under the carpet. I know that Nigerians remain very grateful to Dokpesi till date. I refer you to publications on the battle to liberate Nigeria during the third term debate. I refer you to constitutional conference; I refer you to Save Nigeria Group. Dokpesi has equally fought for the freedom of information (FOI) Bill. He remains in that vanguard. Raymond Dokpesi is more interested in the project called Nigeria. He is detribalized.
When late president Yar’Adua of blessed memory said that Nigeria will not be able to host the under 17 world Cup, it became an issue of national discourse. It was equally seen as a shame to Nigeria. People like Raymond Dokpesi approached the federal government and told them of the possibility of hosting the world cup. Against this background, Late President Yar’Adua revised his decision. Dokpesi then ensured and worked tirelessly to see that the country was not disgraced. His contribution should be commended.
The writer of the article on Dokpesi knows how high handed a government could be if they wish to stifle your business. I have not seen nor heard of where a man will request for claims in an area you claimed he did not work. Was there no Under-17 World cup in Nigeria? Was AIT not involved? Does the government not have it as a social responsibility for it to get to Nigerians? So, if Dokpesi says he has claims, what is your tears about that? What is wrong in government supporting it?
You talked about bogus bills; you did not buy the broadcasting equipment, which are the modern state of art equipment with Dokpesi. I consider your write up as a complain because of your language and words. The use of the word “purportedly” is judgmental, casting aspersion and ferning as if you know about his transaction with the Late president Yar’Adua and the present government on this issue. Can’t you see you are wicked? If AIT dies, what will you gain?
The world cup has come and gone and the man who made 70% of it possible through broadcast should not request for his money? Do you know what it costs to broadcast an international match? I am sure you watched the world cup in South Africa; you will understand that the government of the day gave backing, financial muscle to the broadcasting houses that beamed those matches live to South Africans and the World. I am not sure that any organisation, be it public or private is nursing its wounds in South Africa.
Why do we crucify our own?
Mark you, I am only answering you by your article. I do not really know if Raymond Dokpesi has any impasse with the federal government and Dr. Goodluck Jonathan. The present may appear murky but history will not fail us. By God’s grace AIT will remain.
I think that as a writer, our duty is to endeavour to make business survive in Nigeria. The environment must be harmonious. The business environment must not and should not be made harsh for investors. There are a lot of Nigerian students who are looking forward to working in AIT. I know the government cannot do it alone.
There are those who are writing history and I am sure AIT has been more profound to Nigeria and the Government of the day. Nigerians see this and know this. It will survive all onslaughts and odds.
Let me equally state that economic recession is not peculiar to Nigeria. It is global. A lot of companies in America folded up, many people were thrown out of jobs and a lot of Nigerians in America relocated to Nigeria.
In Nigeria, there were retrenchment exercises, a lot of bankers lost their jobs, and some banks had salaries of their staff cut. There are some companies that folded up which I think should not be mentioned here.
Again, some states in the country owe their teachers six months, some four months in the west. I urge the writer to conduct his/her research. Presently, some states have their workers on strike. Some school teachers are equally on strike. DAAR has continued to strive to overcome the harsh and intolerable business terrain in Nigeria.
Let me state that Daar Communications is important to Nigeria. Nigeria and Africa have found their voice through it and it will not sink. It is a station for Nigerians, it will be erroneous if you continue to feel that it is for Dokpesi and not Nigerians and you will definitely incure the wrath of Nigerians. It has grown beyond Dokpesi. Dokpesi gave birth to it, help him nurse it.
Let me tell you that the members of staff are determined. Broadcasting is not about buying of salt and pepper from the market. It is capital intensive and the cost implication of running it is very high.
It is sympathetic because the writer of the article does not understand anything about broadcasting. It takes great ingenuity to keep private broadcasting on their feet in Nigeria. As you are aware, AIT and Raypower are not owned by the Government, they do not have subventions. As Nigerians, we must commend somebody like High Chief Dokpesi for venturing into broadcasting and creating jobs for Nigerians. History will forever be fair to him.
Again, the writer failed to know that Dokpesi like any other person has his life to live. He is an entity. He has right to associate and like any rational being, has right of choice. The writer should note also that one man’s meat is another man’s poison. Babangida may not be your choice, but he is Dokpesi’s choice and the choice of many Nigerians.
Raymond Dokpesi is not a fool. He is a highly intelligent man, made a first class and was the best in his master’s degree programme and he finished his PhD at the nick of time. Let me state that Raymond Dokpesi is not a sycophant. Your article is a deliberate attempt of calumny aimed at running down a man who has exemplified himself in all ramifications.
He has excelled in life and it will be erroneous if we think he does not know what he is doing. Read about Ted Turner of CNN, Mike Murdock and other private Media businessmen in the world and you will understand the enormous burden in the satellite space.
In conclusion, your article is unpopular. AIT has remained on top in broadcasting in Nigeria; Dokpesi will not use AIT to influence value judgement. He has the white man’s mind because he did not school in Nigeria. He has professionals and whatever they pass as judgement stands for him. Babangida is not a leprous man. The Abiola issue is his major flaw, and if Dokpesi pleads on his behalf, what is your pain? In the Bible, Jesus Christ forgave those who sinned. You remember the story of the prostitute? Jesus Christ said, let any of you who have not sinned cast the first stone.
I will advise you to allow Dokpesi follow Babangida. You cannot cry more than the bereaved. I am sure he is even more knowledgeable than you that wrote the article. You are condemning him because he chose to follow IBB. Mark you, not all Nigerians hate IBB. For your information, there is no famous man that is not hated by some of us.
May be it is in our gene! Why some are busy building, others are very busy at night destroying. Do you remember the parable of the sower in the Bible? Those who destroy will surely meet destruction at the door of their success.
Babangida may be Dokpesi’s hero. And Dokpesi is my hero. He has affected this nation than a lot of Nigerians who have ruled the country. Dokpesi, I urge you, go on with your life, your ideology, your principles, your activities remain indelible in the annals of Nigerian history. God will protect and guide you; you are an institution, an enigma, resilient, dogged and determined. The gate of hell and principalities will not prevail against you. If Babangida is a leper, those who think otherwise should ask you why you decided to follow a leper. I think you will have answers for them. They should take the pains to ask you why, and do not fail or hesitate to explain to them. In this wise you will be heading somewhere.
God bless the Federal Republic of Nigeria!
Dokpesi and his new catch!
Thank u SR for this incisive reports! No sane man would want to be linked with the General that Nigerians love to hate. Only those angling for deep pockets, those who shovel naira notes, not the filth, into their baskets! Dokpesi is one!
Its all about money
Nigerians have a very sick memory and never put history in proper perspective. We are so emotional in almost all our dealings. We don't seem to stand for anything that is why most of the people are just after money and wealth. Check out MKO, the same MKO we are all crediting with sainthood today once dined and wined with The Military, true he won a free and fair election that out not to be annulled, but we all forget he was also benefiting from the same system that bleed and milked Nigerians into penury. Today he is a hero and any attempt to state this some people will call for your head. Yar'Adua senior was also a beneficiary of the system today he is termed a hero of democracy.
Abacha is not alive to defend himself and he is about the only bad guy, why? There is no one to launder his image. Hmm! Dokpesi will get away with his action for a season till the judgement day comes like it came for MKO and Abacha, and like it will come for IBB, OBJ, Danjuma and the likes. I was initially critical of Dokpesi untill i took time to analyze the whole system. Dokpesi is not any different from MKO, Nzeribe, Adenuga, Dangote and many other business men. They are all opportunist who grow fat on the misfortune of their fellow Nigerians - its the manifestation of the popular animal farm tale. I am not moved by the axiom that they are philanthropist. As a christian my bief does not permit me to steal from my brother only to turn around and give some the same stolen wealth to the poor or even the mans children in the name of humanitarianism. Whether they create jobs or not. They are all thiefs. Dangote sponsors PDP, Nzeribe will find his own sycophantic platform soon, Adenuga will contribute if not bankroll IBB's campaign immensely so why not Dokpesi? The only thing is they will all rot one day. For now lets have faith that our votes count. Register when the tie comes, observe the candidates we know them because they come from amongst us, they are not from Mars. When its time to vote, vote your conscience and take responsibility for the outcome. Its only after this that all this talk-talk we do will make sense.
my brother thank you o.i am
my brother thank you o.i am totaly disappointed to hear this,Dokpesi or whatever he is called, after preaching good governance comes out to support the devil himself.i feel like crying,m where is Nigeria going with all this this folly and lies,God save Nigeria.

"Please Raymond Dokpesi, if this is a joke stop it! Nigerians have been kind to you. Even to a fault. Despite all the mediocre performance of your stations, we kept faith for 16 years thinking they will improve with time. For what on earth will you allow yourself to be in the wrong side of history? IBB is a leper! You should know from your background how contagious this disease is. Tell me, what or who has been associated with IBB all these years that are still holding their heads up? Why will you fritter away such massive goodwill from the Nigerian people, at home and in the diaspora for a morsel of portage! If this man has bewitched you, please call a Pastor immediately to remove the spell. You don't deserve to go down like this! SSPA are saying IBB has planted you in their midst all this while. How can you extricate yourself from this? The Yorubas are smarting that they provided you room for your businesses to thrive and you are rewarding them by siding with their sworn enemy. The Hausas are saying sai mai gaskiya(Buhari)and you are on the corner of his eternal enemy. The middle belters will never forgive IBB for what he did by decimating their military officers through contrived plane crashes and bogus coups and you are trying to add to their hurt. IBB took Nigeria into IOC and thence began the genesis of religious suspicions and crisis in Nigeria. You think the Christians will take this lightly? Haba double chief think o. You want to join the hall of infamy in Nigeria with your two eyes opened."
CONGRATULATIONS this is so classic!
dokpesi and IBB's campaign
since nigeria is helpless to bring IBB, OBJ and others like them to book, God is preserving them for the Pinochet treatment in their twilight years. dokpesi is desperate to join them.
Raymond Dokpesi is a thief !
Yes ooo He is a thief
Dokpesi is just one of several IBB supporters
Dear all,
though its disappointing and disgusting that 'High Chief' Dokpesi, a media mongul purportedly bailed out by the people is siding with their political enemy, it is really NOT surprising. He is just one out of many if you know how these so-called 'big men' made their money under the military. I predict that Chief Mike Adenuga, High Chief Akinyele, etc. will follow suit so DONT be surprised when Glo begin to send you SMS to vote for IBB as the man for 2011. He made them all and they will ever serve him, full stop!
